✰ The door of the shop slammed open and the bell above it rang and Rosy walked into the shop with her parents. Her mother was holding a bag full of supplies and her father was holding a cage with her new cat inside it.
Luna kept leaping up, probably excited at the thought of having a new owner and had to be kept reminding to stay. While everything on the list was done buying, one very important thing for studying at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry lay unchecked on the list- books.
As Rosy walked around, examining the multiple books on the shelves, she made jingling noises because of the bag of wizarding money on her waist. She came across some rather peculiar titles like Animal Ghosts of Britain, From Egg to Inferno: A Dragon-Keeper's Guide and so many more. The smell in this shop was unmistakable: old parchment, ink, binding glue, and magic.
Rosy opened the letter, now getting slightly torn at the edges due to being folded and unfolded so much, and read it through one more time.
▢ Magical Drafts and Potions by Arsenius Jigger
▢ Book of Spells by Miranda Goshawk
▢ Magical Theory by Adalbert Waffling
▢ The Dark Forces: A Guide to Self-Protection by Quentin Trimble
▢ Hogwarts, A History by Garius Tomkink
▢ A History of Magic by Bathilda Bagshot
▢ Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them by Newt Scamander
She handed the letter over to one of the assistants, who read it through once before pulling out five of the books almost immediately.
"Where are the other two books?" Rosy asked, suspiciously.
"I don't see 'em anywhere" replied the assistant. "I'll go check in the back for you." Saying this, he walked away, leaving Rosy and her parents alone with the other assistants.
For a shop so big and important, it seemed awfully empty today, as if everyone had completed their shopping days ago. While Rosy's parents walked away to take a look at some of the magic they had never seen before as Muggles, Rosy looked around the shop, still wondering why it was so empty.
As Rosy was looking around, she heard the bell on the door chiming once more and realized that she wasn't the only one shopping in Flourish and Blotts today. ✰

Just a book shop?

It was a warm afternoon. It was one of those days where Lena would've rather been in her garden reading. However, her dad had decided it was the right day to go shopping for supplies. Lena always hated school supply shopping. Expect whenever it came to books, books was the one thing she enjoyed looking at. She still had her nose in a book, thought they were out. She looked up from her book as the bell rang whenever they entered the store.
As they walked in, Lena's eyes went wide. So many books! She thought to herself, looking around the store. She almost didn't notice the other girl in there with them. "Lena, honey, put your book down please." Her father said, grabbing the book from her hands, looking down at the list of books they needed. Luckily, her father pretty much remembered where everything was, from whenever he was a student there.
Lena glanced over at the girl who was talking to the shop assistant, who was watching her as she entered the store. She didn't say anything, just studied the girl. She had long wavy brown hair and hazel eyes. Her father had already been looking at the books, already having half in his hand, when he had noticed she was staring. "Lena, stop staring, it's rude. Her father whispered to her, and she immediately look down "Sorry.." She said quietly, almost under her breathe. She almost immediately went back to looking at all the books on the shelves.

✰ Rosy’s attention drifted back to the girl who had come in moments ago. She’d seen the quick look, the hurried apology, and the way the girl had immediately disappeared into the shelves. It didn't seem like nosiness so much as... embarrassment.
She hesitated a moment.
Well, it wasn't too exciting standing around waiting for the assistant to come back.
Rosy shifted the pouch at her waist and sauntered over, stopping at a comfortable distance so she wouldn't surprise her.
“Hi,” she said with a tiny, polite smile. “My name is Rosy.”
Her eyes swept across the shelves between them, then back to the girl. "First year, too?"
Rosy waved the Hogwarts letter in her hand a little, then folded it up again.
"I was beginning to think I was the only person who left all their book shopping until now." She gave a little laugh and looked around the shop, which was unusually quiet. “It’s so empty in here.”
She shifted the stack of books the assistant had already collected to a more comfortable angle against her chest.
“They still have the last two on my list,” she said, nodding toward the door at the back of the counter where the assistant had gone. "I guess they've gone somewhere."
A small smile tugged at the corner of her mouth.
"I've never seen so many books in one place before. Every time I look at another shelf I find something weirder." Her eyes darted to a nearby display, then back to the girl. "I swear one of them tried to take a chunk out of me."
Rosy allowed the silence to hang for a moment, giving the other girl plenty of room to answer or not. She wasn’t going to interrogate a stranger if they didn’t want to chat. But she just waited, tapping the folded Hogwarts letter absently against the side of the books she was carrying. ✰
