Match #2 Its Gobstones, Not Pull Ups Adam v. Ami

Gobstones Match between @Adam Harringtom and @Ami Procoppio
𝓐madea was ready for this next round. It was certainly going to be an interesting one. She had moderated one other game before this, but she had also moderated the test round between Ami and Cecily that had gotten...somewhat out of hand. Amadea just hoped that both of today's contenders had brought their best strategy and talents to today's game; if there were any throws that hit a cat, she was ready to disqualify the player. Though of course, this could easily be solved if Ami just left her cat in the dormitory. Sure, Leo was...fluffy, but he was a bit of a demon cat, in Amadea's opinion. Furthermore, he had been the victim of three gobstones that had gone rogue during the first test match. Amadea only hoped that Ami and Adam would fare better than the original test round.

She examined the board, making sure that everything had been properly placed for the round. Seeing no irregularities, she smiled at the people and said, "Okay for this round we have Ami Procoppio against Adam Harringtom." She was excited for this round; Amadea had never formally introduced Adam to Ami, but this was the perfect opportunity for them to interact. Well, maybe not perfect. Mixing Ami's competitiveness with a Gobstones match ending with putrid liquid wasn't exactly the best way to meet her. But, it would have to do.

"Okay, so I'll be moderating the round," she said. "I have no doubts you'll follow the rules," she paused, looking at Ami. "One more note before we begin: Ami please keep your cat far, far away from here." Now that all of the introductory information was out of the way... "Let the games begin!"

Match #2 Its Gobstones, Not Pull Ups Adam v. Ami
@Ami Procoppio & @Amadea Campbell
Adam cracked his knuckles and picked up one of his Gobstones, tossing it up and down in his palm as he studied his opponent's pieces. This was the very first move of his very first game of Gobstones -- it was kind of exciting. He'd heard of the game before, but he'd never actually gotten an opportunity to play. Luckily, Hogwarts had a club for practically everything, and this one was headed by two of his best friends! It was the perfect opportunity to partake in some friendly competition and get to know his classmates at the same time.

He pulled his arm back to toss his first stone onto the board, but stopped halfway through, looking up at his opponent and smiling. "It's nice to officially meet you," he remarked, and although the competition had given his voice a smug tinge, he was being totally honest. Adam had heard a lot about Ami Procoppio from Amadea and Cecily, and sure, he'd seen her around the castle from time to time, but they'd never officially spoken. It was crazy how you could practically live next to someone for three years without ever having a conversation. Better late than never, he supposed. "Good luck."

Adam returned his attention to the board and tried to decide on a strategy. There were a lot of different types of throws, but he hadn't yet had the chance to figure out which one best suited him. For the first round, he guessed that there was no harm in going with something safe. It might not be as flashy as a catapult shot or as safe as a careful throw, but the classic was sure to do its job, right? He squinted at the stones on the board one last time, still not totally sold on his choice. Apparently, there was a lot more thought involved in this game than he'd thought. It was far from just throwing rocks.

Well, now he was sounding like a total arse. And probably looking like one too, he realized, as he scrutinized the Gobstones like some kind of pro. Shaking his head, Adam lined up his shot and tossed the first of his stones onto the board, saving the fancy stuff for later in the game. He'd have plenty of time to take risks before a victor was declared.

Match #2 Its Gobstones, Not Pull Ups Adam v. Ami
@Adam Harringtom and @Amadea Campbell.

Ah... gobstones. Surprisingly enough, Ami was actually really invested in this club and its success, although she figured that part of her passion was due to the fact that two of her closest friends were leading the club. She may have had a record of quitting things, but she was determined to turn over a new leaf. This year had already been full of surprises and plot twists, so what was another revision to Ami's own character? She was determined to not ditch this club, and showing up to her second match on time was legitimately a big step for the habitually tardy Hufflepuff.
"Okay for this round we have Ami Procoppio against Adam Harringtom."
"It's nice to officially meet you. Good luck."
Ah, so this was the infamous Adam Harringtom. Infamous? Was that even the right word to use? Whatever. She had... heard things about this boy, either from Amadea or Cecily. They were... usually good things- actually, they were always good things, because dammit, Amadea and Cecily were nice people and they would never speak ill of anyone, ever. Her eyes narrowed at the blond Ravenclaw standing by the gobstones board, as if she were analyzing him like Sherlock Holmes, or something. Obviously, she was doing nothing of the sort- it was more of a mind trick that her mom liked to do with her whenever she felt like Ami was hiding something.

Her expression clearing, Ami grinned at Adam, tilting her head to the right slightly as he wished her good luck. "Good luck?" she scoffed, rolling her eyes. "I don't need luck, Harringtom... I need a miracle," she added under breath, side-eyeing Amadea. And truly, she spoke the truth. Her test round with Cecily hadn't gone as planned- after all, she lost, and losing was never part of the plan.
"One more note before we begin: Ami please keep your cat far, far away from here."
"Okay, you know what-" Ami retorted, "Where I go, Leo goes. No exception. Okay, some exceptions, but those exceptions are few and far between. Besides, he's..." Glancing around, the Hufflepuff turned to Amadea in shock. "I don't know where he is," she admitted, with a shrug. "He was with me when I came down here, but I guess he just kind of left." He tended to do that, of course, and Ami had gotten used to it by now. She supposed that not many others were used to her cat's strange behavior, but it was just a fact of life. However, who really knew where Leo was, at any given time? Maybe if someone rolled a crit fail, he'd reappear just in time to put himself in the path of danger!

"Alright, Harringtom," Ami said confidently, a customary, overly-confident smirk on her face. "What about a bet? A butterbeer to the victor." What was with her and making bets? Thank goodness she didn't live in Las Vegas, because she had a feeling that her strange addiction to upping the stakes to everything would only be amplified. Picking up one of the gobstones, Ami hefted it in her hand, decided to stick with her strategy from the last game. Her gaze fixating on one of the easier to hit gobstones, and without further ado, chucked it towards the gobstones board.

𝓐madea eyed her friends carefully, watching them as they prepared to make their first moves. Adam, being the good natured person he was, offered luck to Ami for the round. On the other hand, Ami provided yet another bet for this Gobstones round. As if losing against Cecily wasn't enough, Ami had to up the stakes for this match as well. At least her cat was nowhere in sight. After Amadea's warning, the two had looked around for the cat, but determined that Leo was somewhere far away from here. Amadea was sure the last time he had been here was scarring for the poor creature, but at the same time, it didn't quell Amadea's fears of the foul being.

"Alright guys, butterbeer on the line, lets see what happens," she said, leaning back in her chair, ready to see what was going to happen. Adam opted to go for a normal throw, aiming at one of Ami's gobstones. Though his throw appeared to be a little weak, it did it's job, successfully knocking one of Ami's gobstones out of the ring. He was doing well so far! Amadea remembered not to count her chickens before they hatched, though, as she remembered the test round of Gobstones that had also started out so well, but had quickly only gone downhill from there.

"Yay Adam!" Amadea cheered for her friend. "Good job!" She then focused on Ami, waiting to see her retaliation. Unlike Adam, Ami tried to be more conscious with her throw, but with her strong arm, she still seemed to end up lobbing it toward one of Adam's gobstones without much thought process behind it. Somehow, though, Ami's throw still also hit it's target, leaving the two tied with six gobstones left in the ring.

"Yay Ami!" Amadea cheered for her other friend. "You guys are doing so well! You both did well this round. Time for round two; this time Ami goes first."

Match #2 Its Gobstones, Not Pull Ups Adam v. Ami
@Adam Harringtom and @Amadea Campbell.

"Oh, hell yeah!" Ami exclaimed, pumping her fist in the air. Was it a little tacky? Of course. Was it over the top? Duh. The Hufflepuff had absolutely no sense of shame, so she tended to act out and act ridiculous, even in public places where it was usually frowned upon. After all, considering who she was and the morals and values she was raised with, Ami had absolutely no qualms about being as flamboyant as possible. It was just in her nature to draw attention to herself. Did that make her an attention-seeker, or narcissistic? Probably. But it was just who she was.

Okay, but there was no need to get cocky, now. Last time she got cocky, she had lost to Cecily and hit her cat in the process. No, she'd have to bottle up her over-confidence for now, until she was in a position where it would be acceptable to gloat. Taking a deep breath to calm herself down, Ami picked up her second gobstone, hefting it in her hand as she scanned the board again. She'd done fairly well the last time sticking to the basics, and aiming for gobstones towards the edge of the circle, so she decided to stick with her "strategy", if it could even be called that.

... maybe she had told herself that she wouldn't be a prick, but it was just too hard to resist taunting the blond boy across from her. "Ready to forfeit yet, Harringtom?" Ami said with a smirk, the gobstone bouncing back and forth between her two palms as she paced back and forth on the edge of the circle, looking for a suitable gobstone to knock off the board. Finally finding one she decided she could knock out, Ami let the gobstone fly from her hand.

Match #2 Its Gobstones, Not Pull Ups Adam v. Ami
@Ami Procoppio & @Amadea Campbell
"Ready to forfeit yet, Harringtom?" Adam shook his head and laughed, glad to hear that Ami was taking this just as competitively as he was. Maybe even more so -- he wasn't sure if she'd noticed, but they'd both lost a Gobstone in that round, which meant that they were still tied. His success had been a pleasant surprise: the throw had been a little bit weaker than he'd liked, but it had done its job, so he couldn't complain. This game was a lot more exciting than he'd been expecting!

"How many matches have you won again, Procoppio?" he fired back, grinning. That's right, he'd heard about the test game between Ami and Cecily. More importantly, he'd heard about Cecily's victory, and he figured that it couldn't hurt to remind Ami of her previous failure. It might knock her down a peg or two, although it could certainly backfire depending on how well this round went for the blond boy. Well, that was a chance he was willing to take. "Keep on talking, I've got six stones left."

Ami tossed her Gobstone into the ring, and just like that, it was Adam's turn. He took his time with it like his opponent hand, hoping to move onto something more complicated after the success of his classic throw. He slid past the Hufflepuff girl and tried to single out a target, judging which one of her stones looked easiest to hit. It wasn't like he'd wanted to lose earlier, but now he really didn't want to. He was looking forward to getting some Butterbeer from his opponent. Actually, now that he thought about it...

"A bet, huh?" he asked, coming back around to Ami's proposition. Adam cast a sly smile at Amadea and nodded. "You've got yourself a deal -- but how about we make it two butterbeers? I think I'll want an extra." Caught up in the moment, Adam lobbed his Gobstone in no specific path, putting an extra bit of strength behind it and praying that it would find a suitable target. He could afford a few Butterbeers, especially at the Three Broomsticks' prices, but he couldn't afford the sting of losing to the feisty Hufflepuff across from him. Ami was going to buy him those drinks, damn it, as soon as she washed the putrid liquid out of her robes.

Match #2 Its Gobstones, Not Pull Ups Adam v. Ami
── ❋ ──
𝓐madea fought back the smile that showed on her face as Ami let out a celebratory whoop when her gobstone hit its mark. She loved the enthusiasm; she loved that Ami was actually hitting gobstones and not cats even more. At least she wasn't being too cocky about it...Amadea immediately took the thought back as she taunted Adam. Of course. Amadea wasn't surprised. That was just who Ami was.

Adam took the taunt in stride though, upping the bet so now two butterbeers were on the line. This was going to be an interesting match. Amadea was quickly learning that both Ami and Adam were quite competitive and neither was going to back down from this challenge. She was excited to see what was going to happen during the second round.

Ami went first this time, taking her time with another conscious throw. It paid off, as her gobstone strongly smacked against Adam's and hit it out of the ring. Down to five stones Adam now was. But, he still has his turn to rebut her attack. Amadea watched as the boy made up for his first, weaker throw by lobbing his gobstone at the ring. The tactic worked for him; though Amadea sensed there was little strategy behind his throw, it hit one of Ami's gobstones, pushing it out of the ring. The game was still tied. Amadea had never played a match where the two people tied at the end, and to be quite honest, she wasn't exactly sure what would happen if they did. She assumed they would just collect the tossing gobstones and keep going until someone won, no matter how long it took.

She at least knew that Adam and Ami wouldn't quit until there was a clear winner; after all, someone had to get those two butterbeers. "You both are doing so well!" she complimented them, truly amazed. Especially for Adam, since it was his first time playing, she was impressed with how well he was doing so far. And Ami was definitely making up for her last round; there had been no cats hit yet. "Keep it up for round three; Adam you're first."

Match #2 Its Gobstones, Not Pull Ups Adam v. Ami
@Amadea Campbell & @Ami Procoppio
Adam pumped his fist in the air as his Gobstone knocked another one of Ami's out of the ring. He was making solid progress, round by round -- the only problem was that Ami was making it too. She'd matched both of his successes so far, which meant that they were still tied at five Gobstones each. Adam wondered if this was customary for the game: were he and Ami really good at Gobstones, or really lucky? Amadea seemed to think that their talent was all natural, and Adam smiled at her thankfully as she cheered them both on. It was nice to have moral support, even if his opponent did too.

He decided to give his competitive banter a break for this round, not willing to raise his bet any further unless Ami took the bait. He was pretty confident that she was going to -- after all, it was only two butterbeers, not a racing broom -- but it still felt smart to back off for a moment. If he talked himself into a corner, it was just going to be embarrassing. Adam singled out one of Ami's stones and narrowed his eyes at it, moving into a good striking position. As he stared the thing down, he tried to formulate a plan for knocking it out of the ring. His throws tended to be better if they were strong, based on the last two trials. Then again, was it better to sacrifice accuracy for strength, or to have some caution? He couldn't be sure...it was a tricky decision to make, but in the end strength won out and Adam pulled his arm back to lob his Gobstone into the ring forcefully.

What happened if they both ended up with no Gobstones left? Would they have to call a draw? Or go into overtime? Adam wasn't entirely convinced that Ami wouldn't fist-fight him for victory if it came to that. He was sure that there had to be some kind of contingency, even if he couldn't think of it at the moment. Amadea probably knew what to do. Still, the end of the match wasn't quite in sight, and it was anyone's game. Adam would just have to hope for a little luck to help him along -- or to drag Ami down at the last moment.

But only if it came to that, of course.

Match #2 Its Gobstones, Not Pull Ups Adam v. Ami
@Adam Harringtom and @Amadea Campbell.
"How many matches have you won again, Procoppio?"
Ami scoffed and rolled her eyes, although there was a slight smile playing around the corners of her mouth. Obviously, she took none of this banter personally, and it was fun to get to chatter with someone with the same level of Big Dumb as her. "Alright, Harringtom, let's play. How many matches have you played?' she shot back with a grin. While Amadea probably wanted the two of them to place nice with each other, clearly, there was absolutely no way that would happen. Adam was just a little too snarky and sarcastic, and Ami was just a little too stubborn.
"Keep on talking, I've got six stones left."
"I've got six stones left too, blondie!" she retorted, pointing at the circle indignantly. Hey, look, the Dumb Blonde (who's actually a redhead, but that's just a technicality) can count! "I have literally kissed more girls than you have gobstones, buddy. Keep talking, Regina George, because I'm gonna make you eat your words and your hat the way Cady made Queen Bee eat those weight gain bars."

... yeah, don't worry, I don't understand what she's trying to say, either. Moving on!
"A bet, huh? You've got yourself a deal -- but how about we make it two butterbeers? I think I'll want an extra."
"Fine, three," Ami said immediately, unable to stop herself. "One for Amadea, since she's gotta put up with our crap. It's only fair... two butterbeers to the winner, and one to Amadea regardless!" Turning to Amadea with a bemused look on her face, she added in a stage whisper, "I don't even know why I'm trying so hard, I can't even drink the damn things. Do you think I could get him to switch over to pumpkin juices, or gillywater, once I win?" Pfft, did it even matter? No, it really didn't.
"You both are doing so well!
"Of course I am!" Ami said indignantly, as if she was genuinely offended that Amadea didn't think that she wouldn't be doing well. Considering that she'd hit her very own cat during her match with Cecily, though, she should've been surprised by the fact that she hadn't given Adam a concussion by now. Hefting the stone in her hand, she scoffed at Adam standing across the gobstones board silently. "Penny for your thoughts, Marilyn Monroe?" she jested, the corners of her eyes crinkling as she grinned at the boy. Seriously, crow's feet at 14? Well, I've seen it before, so it's valid. "Didn't peg you to be the strong and silent type. Well..." Ami hesitated, before glancing at Amadea with an apologetic shrug. Sorry for dissing the blondie, the look said, although it was dubious on whether or not the message actually got through. "Definitely not strong. So, I guess I didn't think you were the silent type, Harringtom."

With a small smile, Ami tossed her gobstone into the circle rather lazily, opting to just hope that sheer, dumb luck was on her side. I guess you could say that she was consciously choosing to not choose a stone. After all, screw logic, right? There had to be a reason why she wasn't sorted into Ravenclaw.

Match #2 Its Gobstones, Not Pull Ups Adam v. Ami
── ❋ ──
𝓐madea grinned as she listened to the banter between Adam and Ami; she knew pairing them up would lead to quite the match and she had not been disappointed. This was turning out to be quite entertaining to moderate.

It was not surprising to Amadea that Ami was baiting Adam again with her trash talking, this time attacking him for his lack of love life and how it correlated to the gobstones. "Okay, okay Ami," she said. "There's no need to brag about being a stud," she teased, though she had to admit that her Mean Girls reference had been spot on. Call her a stereotypical Muggle, but Amadea loved herself some Mean Girls. Of course, Ami didn't stop there, yet again upping their bet. At this point, Amadea was convinced that they weren't ever going to up the stakes until the game had been completed and felt like she should do something about it. But... "Normally, I wouldn't condone betting," she said. "But considering that I get a butterbeer out of this...I'll allow it." She grinned.

And of course Ami was still not done, this time trashing Adam for his lack of strength. Amadea just sighed and shook her head. She knew it would be useless to try to shut Ami up and she knew that Adam could handle her banter; he seemed to be doing quite well jabbing her right back. She watched as Adam silently surveyed the board, trying to get the best angle for his next throw. Unfortunately, the angle didn't turn out well for him, as his gobstone accurately rolled in the direction he had chosen, but missed Ami's and rolled out of the ring. Maybe all of the banter had finally gotten to his head.

Amadea focused on Ami now as she attempted to throw her gobstone. Evidently, all rules of Gobstones had flown out of her brain as she lobbed the gobstone. It ended up hitting the edge of the table and bouncing off somewhere in the grass. Amadea winced, watching it roll away. Maybe it was karma from all of her trash talking. On the bright side though, it hadn't hit any living creatures (namely, Leo).

"Well, you guys are still tied," she said. "Ami, you're up first for the next round." Maybe if the two focused more on the game itself, and not trashing their opponent, the next round would prove to be a success for them.
