Paper Badger
@Lydia Cooper
There was no denying it anymore at this point; Ruka was having a genuinely good time.
Despite the fact that he'd been annoyed by Lydia' presence when she first came around and made him destroy his paper dragon, the conversation had went quite exactly how Ruka had imagined it to go from the moment he'd realised how vehemently she was trying to defend Rafa from any and all of his accusations.
It was for that reason that he also wasn't very surprised to get silence as an answer to almost everything else he had said about her hypocrisy and her seeming inability of taking care of herself. He didn't know her of course, so there had been no way for him to be able to tell that she was genuinely struggling with the concept of basic self care almost to the same level that he used to, but that wasn't why he had said it.
Before he got a chance to elaborate, however, he could feel a stinging pain shooting through his skull, making his teeth ache with the impact even.
The fist colliding with his face didn't feel all that unlike when Willow had punched him in the face, except this time he had seen it coming, had anticipated it even. With every word, every time he had leaned close enough to be uncomfortable, he had felt this exact moment coming closer and closer. He felt no sorrow or remorse for having brought her to this point; She had gotten there with next to no provocation. A few to the point words, some vague disregard for personal space, a bit of teasing, that was all it had taken for Lydia to let her face collide with his nose in a way that made it difficult to tell who had been hurt worse from the impact.
Ruka sniffled gently when he noticed the first trickle of blood flowing down to pool at the dip just above his lips.
"Thought so," he said with an enthusiastic glint in his eyes as he let out an amused laugh while reaching for a napkin to dab at the blood on his skin, leaning his head forward a little as he did so. "You make for a great pair, you and Rafa. I can tell what he sees in you." He followed that statement with a moment of contemplative silence as he put the napkin to his blood stained nostrils to catch the flow of red before it could drip on his clothes or his origami dragon. "Or, well, doesn't, I guess. Maybe try telling him you broke my nose, he'll like that." He winked cheekily, as much as possible with his head tilted forward and a napkin pressed to his nose.
Slowly, Ruka gathered his belongings, putting his messenger bag across his shoulders before slowly standing up and letting out another laugh as he looked at Lydia again. "I'd say it was nice to meet you," he said with a little shrug as he took a step back to put some distance between them now that he had gotten what he wanted. "But I'm not a liar." He chuckled and lifted his hand in a small wave before turning around to walk away.
It was time to find whoever had organised this Origami spectacle and ask them for more instructions to take back to his dorm.
He desperately needed them.

Blood.
Thick, bright, red blood was flowing down from Ruka's nose, stopping right before his lip. Lydia's mouth was open, forming a shocked "O", as she started at the Gryffindor boy. Then the pain in her hand became strong enough to kind of snap her out of her confused state; she unclenched her fist, holding back a groan as she realised she couldn't move her thumb too much. Great, this is just perfect.
She would have expected Ruka to do anything at that point but laughing. What was wrong with him? HE had just got punched straight on the nose, with blood all over his chin, and he was freaking laughing. If Lydia already had her doubts about his mental health and stability, his reaction only confirmed those doubts to her; something was not right with him, nobody in their right mind would react that way after being punched.
Ruka's next words made Lydia frown, the guilt she had felt for punching him quickly going away. "You're a jerk," she said, and wanted to say so much more, but then Ruka had gotten up and gathered his things, clearly anxious to take care of his bloody nose. Lydia simply stared at him as he collected his stuff, her face a mix of shock and anger; Ruka then winked at her as he said his goodbyes, before walking away and leaving Lydia pretty confused.
It took her a moment to realise that she was still staring at the place where Ruka had been just moments ago; with a shrug, she collected her origami creation and safely put it away, before she concentrated on her hand. Just by looking at it, it didn't look too bad; sure, the knuckles were pink from where they had hit Ruka's nose, but aside from that they looked just fine; instead her thumb was hurting quite a bit. She tried to move it back at forth - of course, that hurt quite a lot- and then she noticed how the finger was starting to swell a little at the base, while also becoming quite red.
Lydia got up from the bench and started walking out of the Great Hall, her eyes fixed on the ground as she held her injured hand close to her body; she started making her way towards the Hospital Wing, only to realise that she would have most likely needed to explain how she had gotten such injury. Spinning on her heels, the Hufflepuff girl turned around and walked as quickly as she could towards the Hufflepuff Common Room, and once she was finally safe behind the door, she walked up to her dorm.
Before leaving for Hogwarts, Lydia's mom had given her a first aid kit for the emergencies; inside there were different muggle medicines, from antibiotics to painkillers, some bandages, plasters and even some Voltarol. That was exactly what Lydia was looking for. She carefully opened the pomade, applying a generous layer all over her hand and thumb, before she wrapped the bandages around her hand. For now this self-medication was enough, and if in a week her hand would have not been better, then she would have gone to the Hospital Wing.
Lydia left the thread.
