QUIDDITCH - TEAM 1 vs TEAM 2 - SPRING 2026
Date: 1st June 2026
Time: Late Morning
Weather: Warm and humid
Moderator: @Denise Yarbrough
Anchored securely on her Comet 180, Denise flew up into the sky, smiling at the somewhat nice weather. Well, it was nice, except the humidity and the recent heat waves have been driving Denise absolutely insane. She had to wear rather breathable clothing, and as she hovered up, she felt rather nervous, especially feeling eighteen pairs of eyes staring at her. She was nervous since this was her first time moderating a Quidditch match, and she truly hoped that everyone would not turn to attack their own moderator and burst into chaos.

She recognized some, and not others, as she yelled through her plastic bullhorn, "Welcome, everyone! I'm assuming you read the rules for Quidditch. The usual, beaters do bludger actions, chasers score, but you don't have to, seekers look for the snitch, and keepers guard. Now don't foul... but I know you probably don't listen to that and expect a penalty lap. I'll try to be as attentive as I can. Now, everyone, position yourselves."

Everyone floated up to their positions, and the four benched second-string players sat on the bleachers.

"Well, everyone, alright. Well, good game everyone, this is unofficial, and I hope for those first time playing, I hope you would LIVE, I mean survive this match, LAUGH at some funny moments, and of course, learn to LOVE QUIDDITCH despite being smacked by a bludger."

"Three..."

"Two..."

"On-"

She almost dropped her bullhorn, and Denise luckily caught it on time.

"ONE, START! MAKE THIS MATCH EXCITING, EVERYONE!"

───────────────────────────────────────────────────────
A rather yawn-prone, dark haired, blue eyed eleven year old sleepily strode onto the pitch - a ragged looking school broom slung over one shoulder, a goblet of pumpkin juice in his free hand - 'borrowed' from the Great Hall. He squinted up at the sun with a glare, clearly taking the glowball's presence personally on this fine June day. After taking a few moments to finish off his beverage and adjust to the offensive glare above him, he set the drinking vessel aside and rolled his shoulders.

To say he knew very little about Quidditch would be an understatement of titanic proportions. Until roughly a year ago, he'd never heard of the sport (or anything else pertaining to actual magic, for that matter). He'd watched a few games, however, mostly when one of his friends were playing. Didn't have any bloody idea what was going on, but Merlin did the Hufflepuff show up, cheering them on, wearing colors for whichever House his buddies were in - much to the bewilderment and consternation of his peers, most likely. But learning more about the game was the main goal in joining this little unofficial game Denise had put together. Who knows, maybe he'd have some fun along the way!

So there he'd sat before this, bleary eyed, listening to his teammates debating their play options. He tossed out his own thoughts once, maybe twice, but mostly, he just nodded along and smiled - particularly at the more bizarre sounding pulls from the playbook that got suggested.

Now that he was actually on the pitch, the humidity of the day was combining with the warmth to make this a more uncomfortable experience than the sleepy first year would have preferred. Hopefully once they were up in the air it wouldn't be quite so bad. His left eye twitched at Denise's Live Laugh Love commentary - partially because it was corny, partially because he didn't realize death was an option. Then again a few weeks before this he'd thought a nice boat ride over the lake would be a pleasant way to cool off and he'd almost drown, so Hogwarts seemed hellbent on keeping Henry miserably warm, and attempting to kill him if he wasn't fond of the idea.

Surely he wouldn't actually plummet to his death after taking a Bludger to the face... right?

xxxA month ago, Ravenclaw had won the spring race, famously kicking butt and beating Hufflepuff. The Welsh girl was excited. Brookline was extremely proud of her teammates, and felt sheer, genuine appreciation bubble and bloom in her hollow chest. For once, her empty self felt whole.

Brookline even raced to the library after that to learn more about her favourite sport to win more races with her team. She wondered if every race made her feel whole and appreciated, perhaps if she won enough, she would feel loved. Hopefully her father would, but it was always good to start small. Hopefully.

Now a month later, Marie had foolishly signed up for an unofficial Quidditch match and chickened out the week before. The little Ravenclaw had came to her older sister, with hot tears in her blue eyes, babbling about Quidditch and students. Brookline could hardly understand her. She had tossed her novel she was currently reading to the ground and called for Minnie, Marie’s twin. Once Brookline understood what Marie was going on about, she asked Minnie to fill in for their shy, isolated sister. “Bloody hell no. There’s no way I’m going out there to make a laughing stock out of myself,” was the twin’s answer. Minnie probably was sick of helping Marie too, Brookline supposed. Minnie would always step up when Marie went quiet or flushed, or when her timid side crawled out like a little mouse. Brookline knew that her younger sister couldn’t help it, being introverted and reserved, the pure-blood girl had noticed her own isolated side come out this past year.

That’s how Brookline ended up, seeming thoroughly pissed, on the Quidditch Training Pitch. Fortunately, she was one of the only second strings. One of the bench warmers. The Welsh Ravenclaw crossed her fingers, hoping that she wouldn’t have to fill in. She remembered a good two years ago, she was a seeker in a unofficial match, during summer camp. She couldn’t remember who had won, but it was great fun. Now Brookline couldn’t see herself trying to seek for a stupid yellow ball that flutters around like a darn bird.

Brookline watched as a young boy padded into the pitch with a rather old school broom on his shoulder and a golden goblet in his hand, shimmering dangerously in the sun. Oh, God! Seriously? The brunette had to cut the glare by covering her eyes with a hand. The glinting became worse as the other student tipped the cup up and finished the liquid inside. Put it down, She wanted to scream, but instead covered her eyes. It wasn’t just the goblet, it was also the real sun, shining its warmth on all of them. How the hell would they be able to play in this lighting?

Too bad the sky wasn’t cloudy, she thought as she crossed her legs. Brookline’s teammates — including the young lad with the glinting goblet — were strategizing, and she only heard the most vital things. One, because she could hardly care, and two, she didn’t quite need a second reason. She wondered about all the reasons for her teammates to join, and glanced at her own. What a pitiful reason. Most of these students probably signed up on their own and hadn’t needed to show up for their scared sibling. Of course Marie had to sign up for this when she knew, she knew that she was shy and probably might bail last second. All Brookline knew was she was teaching her sister a lesson. Or at least, she hoped. Perhaps this was all a waste, and Marie had signed up with the intention of getting Brookline out of her traumatized shell. Hopefully not.

Brookline straightened in her seat when Denise wanted to start her unofficial match. A plastic-looking item (what the absolute hell is that?) sat in her hand as the first year screamed into it. At the end of her weird speech — do moderators always talk like before a match? — the witch accidentally almost dropped her loud-speaking tool yet had caught it just in time. Brookline watched on as her teammates and their opponents jumped immediately into play once Denise yelled the word, “Start!”

Were Quidditch matches always this involved? Is this why I never actually pursued it?

Speech -- Thoughts

Pam stood near the edge of the pitch, broom balanced against her shoulder while the rest of the players gathered around.

There was a surprising amount of waiting involved in Quidditch.

She'd always imagined it would be all dramatic entrances and immediate flying. Instead, there was a lot of standing around while everyone got into position and someone inevitably adjusted a glove for the fourth time.

Not that she was counting.

She shifted her grip on the broom and looked up.

Good weather.

That was... nice, actually.

One less thing to complain about.

Her father always said that Seekers needed patience. Personally, Pam thought Seekers needed better eyesight and a willingness to spend an unreasonable amount of time staring into empty air, but perhaps that didn't sound as inspiring.

Someone nearby laughed. Another player nudged past with a muttered apology.

Pam exhaled slowly.

She wasn't nervous.

Lie.

Well.

Not enough to admit it.

It was only a match. Problem was she couldn't remember the last time she had played as a seeker. The seeker position always had a long waitlist, especially in unofficial games. She'd gotten extremely lucky this time around.

The referee called both teams over.

Pam gave her broom a small pat, more out of habit than anything else, before swinging a leg over it.

"Right," she muttered to no one in particular.

"Let's see what you've got this time."

What does it mean to live? The definition of the verb seems clear upon initial reading; to live is simply to survive. To live is simply to possess the ability to breathe — and that is essentially what life is. Respiration. One is only rendered unable to live when their ability to take in a gasp of oxygen is stripped away. But is one really living when solely surviving? Maslow’s hierarchy of needs places physical essentiality as the necessity, but does that constitute truly living? Beyond physical necessity lies belonging, esteem, self-actualisation. Without those upper tiers, life becomes dull and colourless, a monotonous amalgamation of bland repetition and lack of true fulfilment. To the Ravenclaw beater, belonging, esteem, and self-actualisation lay in Quidditch. The game was one that Ebony had wholeheartedly immersed herself within throughout her years at Hogwarts, and she had come to find it existing as a constant staple of joy, one that brought liberation and a sense of untetheredness. Flight, after all, tends to provide one with the ability to temporarily break away from chains, to soar unobstructed if but for the short duration of a Quidditch match. Paradoxically, however, there is no living in Quidditch. The sport sacrifices the tier of safety for the satisfaction of the others; everybody is eventually bludgered unconscious, and one could not claim that they had really played Quidditch had they not plummeted toward the ground at least once.

Today, the brunette decided to live via an unofficial Quidditch match hosted by Denise. She found it hard to believe that this was her very first (save for the one that she had hosted herself); having joined the Ravenclaw Team in the middle of her first year, she supposed she never had found the time nor the energy to join these unofficial games. She had come however, recently, to appreciate such unofficiality, for it allowed for practice and experimentation without fear (though ego still stood in the way).

“Beaters do bludger actions,” the moderator had said. By law and the holy rulebook, yes. Both practically and theoretically — not necessarily. She could always resort to a good old blatch, or perhaps even take a more adrenaline inducing approach in simply whacking players unconscious with her bat. It had been a while since she had taken a penalty lap, and she almost missed it, to some extent. Ebony was usually a decently lawful Quidditch player. Usually, though the opportunity for experimentation today may have changed that.

As she stepped onto a largely empty Quidditch pitch — with only two of her teammates present for now — the smouldering heat almost impeded upon her ability to achieve enjoyment. It wasn’t your typical crisp heat, either; it was asphyxiating, partnered with a damp wetness that made her usually lightweight equipment weigh tenfold. Attempting to ignore the pools of sweat already gathering on her forehead, she mounted her trustily long-tenured Silver Arrow and launched into freeing flight.

Amethyst Jenalyn Castillo dragged herself through the field for a match she had willingly signed up for.
In her defence, she had no idea that it would be on a Monday.
The Monday blues were getting to her; her grey eyes darted over the field, drowsy and uninterested.
The young girl's initial purpose to be in such a quidditch match was to make friends. Well, she must be kidding with herself.
Amethyst knew well she was not capable of making friends. She barely acknowledged anyone.
At this point, however, she was fine with making a few enemies, anything to curb the monotonousness of her life.

She found Denise Yarbrough, the moderator and someone she had played an unofficial quidditch match with before, standing in the stands.
Amethyst mounted her moontrimmer, more like a Slytherin senior's moontrimmer, which she had conveniently forgotten to return.
It was high time for her to get her own broom. She would now have to be embarrassed by apologising for keeping someone else's broom for a longer period of time than promised.

An enthusiastic yell was heard on the pitch.
The young heiress visibly cringed hearing Denise's commentary.
Live, love, and laugh.
Not well suited to quidditch, in her opinion.

The humid weather was not making anything better either.
Despite being her favourite, Amethyst could feel herself getting bored of the game before even being in the air.

Image posted by the member Ophelia had taken part in various unofficial Quidditch matches during her first year at Hogwarts. It was surprising how the girl who used to get overwhelmed about the wizarding world had adapted so much within a year that she'd lost count of the number of times she played on a broom -which, to be honest, was maybe only three times, more or less- and... well, bludgered other players. About that we won't talk. At first, she always immediately felt bad, but, no matter how unofficial the match was, a win was a win; she'd do anything for it.

The moderator of this unofficial match, Denise Yarbrough, had decided that the very first day of June, with warm and humid weather, was the ideal day for Quidditch. Perhaps she didn't know how warm it was going to be when she was deciding that, but it was too late to back down now. Ophelia was wearing appropriate clothing for the weather, so she didn't complain that much.

"Alright, we can do this," she said out loud, more to herself, but it didn't hurt if her teammates heard a bit of... encouragement. She looked over at the other team, two of her opponents she knew from her previous matches, and they were damn good players. She shook her head, reminding to herself that they had experienced players, due to official or unofficial Quidditch, as well, "right?" Maybe she should've asked for some advice before the match started, since only three unofficial Quidditch matches didn't really give you anything to start with, but there was no time for that now, she just hoped that everyone stayed alive sane and healthy during this game; god knows how many times she'd seen others and herself lose their temper.

Another day, another unofficial game of quidditch hosted by a student who was bored and wanted to gain experience with quidditch. She was beginning to see a pattern in the people who signed up for this sort of thing. @Ophelia Vanderbilt was one of them that stood out to her.

The weather was, well, not exactly perfect but good enough to play in. Summer was really starting to show its true colours now and the humidity that came with it did not hold back in the least. Jada seemed to glow under the sun; her skin was already starting at break out in sweat before the game had even begun.

The moderator for this game was Denise, Denise Yarbrough. The girl was a Hufflepuff and looked older than Jada. At least there wouldn’t be much house based bias in this game given that most players were from the other houses. As usual most players were also in the younger end of the school, with a few exceptions. It must suck for them, she thought They probably aren’t getting much out of this other than letting out their frustration on younger children. Anyways, there wasn’t much she could do about that. All she could hope for was that the teams were somewhat even enough that she couldn’t get destroyed in the first 10 minutes.

XXXXXThere was not much to say about it. Despite his schedule, Prat had managed to pick up another activity that would occupy his time despite his already awfully busy schedule. Today was another day for another quid game. Despite his recent mood shift to switch lanes once again and join duelling, Quidditch continued being a sport Prat found joy in and then idea of playing quidditch, whether he won or not was still a better experience than the lame travesty that playing duelling was.

Duelling for all its benefits was far too monotonous in it's approach and once you slipped, there was no going back. Only thing that could even possibly think of putting you back in duelling's favour was your opponent failing rather than you succeeding.

Truly duelling needed a much better approach, but that was an entirely new conversation for a different time. Currently, all that Prat needed was his silver arrow and his sunglasses to beat the sun from his eyes. Glares while flying were no joke.

Setting up his kit, Prat shrugged off his jacket, placing it on one of the stands as he neatly folded it. A bruise healing paste for after the game and then put his sunglasses back on. Time to be in the air.

It was a habitual thing for Sere to challenge herself again and again. She was always craving something new. As summer approached, marking the start of her third-year finals season, the lioness took her broom and headed to the Quidditch Training Pitch. Today, she would refresh herself by trying out an unofficial Quidditch game.

When Sere arrived, she found many students already gathered, and the moderator -who was also her tentmate at Koldovstoretz' IMOG earlier this year- was hovering on her broom to welcome each player. Sere scanned the faces and found several familiar ones. She approached and stood next to one of the players she knew as her teammate in this game.

A brief greeting followed, and Denise instructed each player to take their respective positions. As a beginner in Quidditch, Sere would be a substitute for any position her team needed. She walked to the bench with someone she had occasionally seen in the Common Room: a fellow Gryffindor.

Sere placed her robe on the bench beside her, leaving only her white uniform shirt on. The weather was pretty warm today, so she chose to put on her robe later. Watching each player take their positions, the girl wondered how this game would turn out. "Well, let's see..." she muttered, crossing her arms.
