It had been a while since Ruka had just taken his free time to explore the castle for things he didn't know much about yet, rather than just cluelessly running through corridors in hopes of running into anybody or anything that could take his mind off of everything going on inside him.
The past week had been good, mostly, not filled with too much aggravation and frustration, which really wasn't something he was used to anymore, but he had been enjoying it immensely. His mealtimes were back to being spent with Jack most days again, his insistent counting tick had reduced significantly again, his grades had been rising, and he was pretty sure he had been gaining at least a bit of weight ever since he had no more excuses to skip meal times and someone to call him out on it if he wasn't eating enough again.
It wasn't healthy, admittedly, that he needed someone there to make him aware of it when he was neglecting his own nutrition, but he was working on it, showed up to meal times even when Jack wasn't around, and had taken to stashing apples in his new robes to snack on throughout the day, so he would eat even outside of meal times.
That was a good habit to maintain, he told himself, so on this day he had roamed the castle right after lunch time, with an apple in his right hand, taking a bite every once in a while as he skipped up and down whichever staircase he came across.
"One, two, three," he found himself counting as he jumped down the last three steps of the staircase he was currently on, and he quickly shook his head to snap himself out of it. There were other things he could be in control of, rather than just those three numbers. Counting was not a good habit to maintain.
Apple in hand, Ruka made his way down the corridor of whichever floor he was currently on, stopping outside an only vaguely familiar entrance door.
He hadn't really visited the Trophy Room much, had never really had a reason to frequent that specific place, but it was Saturday and he had nothing else to do, so what was the harm in checking out some awards of people who'd gone to school here long before he was born?
He took a look at his new shiny black shoes for a second as if contemplating whether it was a good idea to set foot inside the Trophy Room before deciding that it was as good a place as any to just explore a little bit.
Adjusting his new red cloak a little bit around his shoulders, Ruka made his way inside, blinking slowly as he adjusted to the way the various trophies reflected the natural daylight and the flickering torches on the wall. The room itself was dim, but the amount of shiny metal made him feel like he had stepped directly into the sun for a second.
Once his eyes had gotten used to this strange light source, he slowly walked along the rows of medals and awards, eyes trailing across the pictures of former students and their names.
He wondered, for a brief moment, if his mother had gone to Hogwarts, or if she had gotten her education elsewhere. If she had been a student here, was there a chance that he would find her name somewhere among the ones engraved in these metal plates and wooden frames?
Shaking his head off that thought, Ruka continued along a shelf full of trophies for Services to the School and Outstanding Achievements.
Even if his mother's name was here somewhere, he wouldn't be able to tell. He only knew her first name, only had that stupid little bracelet charm in the shape of an A tucked away in his trunk to give him any indication of who she was. Anyway, why would he want to see her name or picture anyway? All she was, was a cowardly witch who had abandoned her own son outside a circus tent without as much as a letter to explain herself.
Ruka stopped then, in front of a picture of Ravenclaw's Quidditch Team about seventy years ago. His eyes scanned the faces of the seven children in the picture, a small smile forming on his face as he observed the glee in those young people's eyes.
No more pondering things that only brought him down, he told himself.
For now - for as long as he could - maybe it was simply best to enjoy the experiences he was allowed to make at Hogwarts, without killing himself over all the things that were wrong outside of it.

Occ note:
ReducioThere will be mentions of intended vandalism in here but please rest assured there won't be any anytime soon XD
Hanako had been behaving too well lately. In his muggle school, he would have at least been sent to detention for minor vandalism or someone ratted out complaints against him. Hell, even talking back at teachers was something he did before.
He figured maybe it was the whole magic culture shock. Already a few months in Hogwarts and he still got surprised here and there. He wondered what he thought was impossible before. Part of him was worried anything he tried to vandalise here would spit back and called him out.
Yes, the talking pictures still freaked him out. He will always ignore them and tell them to shut up.
The teacher’s wands were another thing to worry about. The thought that they could literally blast him or make him do embarrassing things did not make ‘ talking back ‘ to them appealing. He underestimated what wands could do before, and he won’t do it again.
Magic boarding school was getting too boring. Part of him wished he sucked it up and got some ally’s to help him out in this crazy new world.
So, what better way to deal with this other than blaming it on his parents? Connect all the reasons why Hanako felt bad and burn in this void of everlasting bitterly biting fire. Pin the reason on something he hasn’t analysed completely. Because when you want to avoid blaming on yourself, it’s easier to push that anger towards someone else. Hurting others was less painful than hurting yourself.
Hanako has compiled a to-do list today, to be the best productive self he could be.
1 )Go to the trophy room
2 )Find any mention of his mother, an outstanding Ravenclaw student
3 )Figure out what feels right at the moment
4 )Do what feels right
It could be wrecking the place into bits using whatever he could find. It could be locking all the doors and cry his eyes out on the floor. He liked the former, but whatever feels right, will remain right.
He was a little too confident that no one would visit somewhere as boring as the trophy room on this fine Saturday afternoon though. He didn’t have time to hide, attack, or come up with a snarky opening when he saw the Lil Pup admiring the full shelf of trophies.
He had a lot of people he wanted to ignore at Hogwarts, but none came even close to the Lil Pup. Like the universe had intended them to hate each other from the start, every encounter they had always ended in misfortune. Mostly on Hanako, but he rather not dwell on that.
Even now, while Hanako stared at the Gryffindor, he wondered what kind of weird stuff he’ll be puking out by the end of this Trophy Room visit. But he wasn’t really in the mood for that today. He came up with a to-do list for heaven's sake. Not following it would just ruin his mood the entire day. There was no way he was going to let some 4’4 foot dwarf ruin it.
Just this once, he’ll allow his friend to be free of his taunts.
“ Well, isn’t this just swell ~“ he couldn’t help himself from saying. “ I’ll cut to the chase, Pup. I came here for something I want to finish quickly. I know we had a line of beautiful past encounters, but let’s make this one end without anyone puking out anything, sound good~?” He smiled at the pup for a few seconds before dropping it entirely.
Yes, he still hasn't forgiven him for that accident. He didn’t care if showing it made the pup more proud of what he did. Literally every time his eyes land on the pup’s face, it’s like a big slap to remind him why helping anyone is useless.
“ How long have you been here, by the way? Care to make my existence disappear and tell me if you’ve seen a Ravenclaw student named Asagao~? Academically gifted. She should be thirty or something. ~ ” His tone went back to his normal, sing-song one. He applauded himself being able to speak like that to someone he loathes. In fact, he thought it was way easier around people he loathed. They weren't a drop of guilt or shame.

With his eyes focused on the picture in front of him, Ruka barely noticed the entrance of a familiar shape, approaching him from the side. He felt like, somehow, he should have recognised the footsteps, should have immediately been able to connect them to Slug Boy of all people, but as he looked up he found himself slightly surprised to see the other boy standing there, looking like he was on a mission that Ruka had unfortunately landed in the middle of.
"Can't make any promises," he told the Slytherin with a little shrug at the request of parting ways without anybody emptying their stomach contents in some way. "But I'll try to keep my lunch down if you do the same." The way the other boy dropped his smile so quickly, as if keeping the corners of his mouth up around him was painful somehow, made Ruka chuckle lightly to himself before taking another bite of his apple.
It was glaringly obvious that Slug Boy wasn't in the slightest comfortable around him, which made sense; Their past encounters hadn't exactly been pleasant, and had mostly had a bad outcome for the Slytherin rather than Ruka himself. Although, he couldn't say it had been at all enjoyable to deal with Slug Boy trying to leave his slimy traces all over Jack while under the influence of that Valentine's Card.
Ruka's first instinct still remained to make sure Jack wasn't in any position for Slug Boy to get his antennae on him somehow.
Returning his sights to the picture of the Ravenclaw Quidditch team, Ruka hummed thoughtfully at the other boy's question, trying to remember if he had come across the mentioned name during his time in the Trophy Room so far. "Can't say it rings a bell," he said, taking a step back to fully turn his body in Slug Boy's direction. The hand holding the apple remained lifted halfway to his mouth while his other buried itself in the pocket of his cloak, ready to pull his wand should he need to at any point during this conversation.
"Who's that then?" he asked, tilting his head to the side with vague curiosity. If Slug Boy was using that annoying voice of his to ask for his help rather than to taunt and tease him, it had to be an important quest that he was on. He doubted the other boy's pride would allow for this type of conversation with his tormentor if it wasn't important. "Got some family in Ravenclaw? Were your ancestors smarter than you?" He gasped dramatically as if the mere thought was shocking somehow.
He decided not to mention that he had yet to meet a genuinely smart Ravenclaw.
"Should be thirty..." He took a moment to try and calculate a birth year, struggling to figure out the year the person Slug Boy was looking for would have started to attend Hogwarts. "Quite young. Are we looking for an aunt? Great-Cousin?" He moved along the shelves for a moment, eyes drifting across the various trophies as he kept an eye out for the name the Slytherin had mentioned. "Let me know who we're looking for and why and I'll happily sacrifice my time to help you out."

"Got some family in Ravenclaw? Were your ancestors smarter than you?"
With his overly dramatic taunt, Hanako could not help but try and hold in a chuckle. Oh crap, wait he was supposed to hate this guy. Curse his weakness towards equally infuriating dramatic retorts. And about his intelligence, yea nice try. He basically lived with these remarks all his life. Happens when you got younger siblings a bit more sharper than you.
If he said he was immune to retorts, he would’ve been lying. But the Pup didn’t know about his siblings, nor did he subtly compared Hanako to his siblings. Not without any knowledge on them. It was because, in their past encounters, Hanako hasn’t really given the Pup a reason to believe he was an intellectual. And that was entirely on him, no one else. That was, why he could laugh at his taunt.
“ Ha-ha, very funny “ He tried to cover up with a sarcastic reply.
"Quite young. Are we looking for an aunt? Great-Cousin?", the pup replied. Hanako watched carefully as he moved around to investigate shelves of trophy’s, his head slightly. Wait, was he actually agreeing to help Hanako? Well, isn’t this just precious. He wasn’t serious when asking the pup for help. He was trying to shoo the pup off, hoping the very thought of helping a brat like him would encourage him to leave. But, he stayed?
An act of kindness or a silent reminder that he wasn’t as allergic to Hanako as Hanako is to him? Was he that bored that he would rather help a 1st year he hexed before?
“ Aunt? Great-cousin? Ha! Wouldn’t I like to know~” He hummed out, hoping to stop his mind from questioning the pup’s motives before his brain gets fried from it. “ I could count the people in my family tree that I actually know on one hand~”
From where he stood, he showed his palm with his fingers stretched out for the pup to see clearly. With each name, a finger touches his palm. “ Granny is one. Two siblings. A pair of parents. Oh, maybe a grandad as well? I don’t really know the guy. Died before I had the pleasure. I was named after him though~ “. He shrugged casually, he turned his hand so he could see it himself, a small frown planted on his face for a few seconds.
The topic of family never came from Hanako. Not even to his closest ally, like Percival. Or even someone who knew him since he was a child, like Kara. He felt small and uncomfortable even sharing his family history. It felt utterly incomplete. A puzzle destined with holes in it because of its missing pieces.
He found it odd that before his grandmother, there was not a trace of any other Tones. Even if there was, no pictures nor family reunion visits or even mentions were made. It was as if they just disappeared or never existed. His father on the other hand, well... he didn’t seem that close with his family. Not that Hanako ever had the chance to ask him about it.
It was an uncomfortable topic that made him inclined to share it with the pup. No one, especially people you weren’t on nice terms with, would like to know about the amount of mystery in your own family tree. He was riding on the fact that the Pup cared too little of him to care about knowing about his family. But now that it was out, oh whoopsi daisies.
Honestly, he’d love to know if he has an aunt or great cousin. Because surely, there was something about his family tree that his grandmother is trying to cover.
“ Well, aren’t you a kind soul~. You’re not one to hold grudges? But I suppose it all worked out in the end, didn’t it~ ” he replied with a mischievous wink, a hint at the whole love potion fiasco. Hanako still had nightmares of obsessing over the Pup’s friend, but when embarrassed about something, simply pretend it does not.
It wasn’t hard even for him to put two and two together to know that Jack was the reason Hanako spent his afternoon puking out slugs in the abandoned bathrooms. He couldn’t recall much about his time under a love spell, but it was enough to know the two made up. To which, Hanako rolled his eyes at.
Stiched up as it may, all they did was bind the broken vase together with simple tape. Someone like Burnett, from what Hanako has seen, was prone to hurt the Pup again. Why the Pup knew this yet went along with it, was a mystery Hanako rather not know.
In the pocket of his cloak and hidden from view, his fingers plucked at the nail edge of his thumb. Just like when he plucked the strings of a ukulele with his thumb as the strings. A nervous reaction, to the pup’s question on who he was looking for and why. Mostly ‘ who’.
Once again, the talk about family made him uncomfortable. Even if it didn’t seem so with his condescending voice.
“ I could use help with finishing this task quickly. Why I’m here well, I’m not entirely sure either “ He gave an innocent smile to the pup. “ I just feel like it? I’ll think about it once she’s found “ He waved off, scanning the trophy’s close to him first, hoping to find something with ‘ Asagao ‘ in it so he could avoid the pup’s second question.
Once it seemed futile, he couldn’t hold back a sigh. “ Her...honestly I don’t know what to call her sometimes. Should I call her what everyone told me to? M o t h e r .“ it rolled off his tongue as if pronouncing the word was difficult. “ おかさん~? Ah, geez doesn’t really feel right on my tongue…Haven’t said that in a while..1 year? 2....3? Oh lordy lord, it’s been three years...” He trailed off and so is his focus on the pup. Wandering a bit further than the pup, aimlessly staring at the many trophies available, he wondered why he was telling him all this. おかさん/o-ka-san/mother
Hanako was honestly quite a chill kinda-guy, most of the time. Insensitive or uncomfortable things fly out of his mouth all the time! That was to make everyone else uncomfortable and get a good look at their faces but was it the same now? Even some of the sad things he said weren’t taken seriously with how childishly or nonchalantly he spoke it, even it were true. This was just another one of those days.
“ Tell me if you need someone to lift you up, little pup~. Also, if you found something. Asagao Tone. Oh, right-” he turned to the pup for a second and gave him a peace sign and a large grin “-Hanako Tone~. I don't think I ever told, with the slugs puking out of my mouth and all. Although, I’m sure you prefer some other clever nickname, hmm Little Pup?”
He smiled as if he didn’t just talk about his mom being absent from his life for 3 years.

There was something about Slug Boy's reaction to Ruka taunting his intelligence, that made the Gryffindor let a little smile seep onto his face. It wasn't a laugh, not a chuckle, barely even a sound, but for just a second Ruka believed the other boy had found some genuine amusement in his words, which told him that One; The Slytherin had not found much offence in Ruka's words, and Two; He clearly appreciated someone to throw the ball back in his court rather than just letting themselves be pelted ruthlessly.
It was something to take note of; As much as Ruka had thought Slug Boy to be someone who liked to try and humiliate and trample on people's insecurities, this was not a typical trait for a bully.
Bullies liked their victims to lie down and take each blow, but Slug Boy was clearly happy to keep things peaceful and conversation flowing for now. As much discomfort there was between them, there didn't seem to be any real animosity. There was still some semblance of equality, fragile but yet to be diminished.
"Your collection is greater than mine," Ruka revealed lightly as he attentively watched the other boy counting the family members he knew off on his hand, each finger exposing information the Gryffindor had never asked for but absorbed nonetheless. Slowly he lifted his own free hand, balled into a fist but for his outstretched pointer finger. "My dad," he said, an almost thoughtful expression on his face as he let a moment of silence pass between them as if he needed to think about who else to name, as if there were other names to follow.
With a little sigh he let his hand drop again before shrugging his shoulders. Slug Boy hadn't asked, but Ruka was fond of the idea of justice; A question for a question, a fact for a fact.
"And he's dead now so that barely counts." A hollow laugh followed the statement as he turned away from the Slytherin to instead focus on some pictures of various clubs and their members from a few years ago. The smiling, waving people almost seemed too happy, out of this realm almost, like they existed in some sort of safe haven never to be touched by the evils of the rest of the world.
A grim reminder that a picture could never reveal the depths of a person.
"Two siblings," he repeated with faint curiosity as he traced a finger along a picture frame, collecting some dust to blow away, watching it dissolve into tiny particles in the air. "Are they here too?" He wasn't sure why he cared, wasn't even sure if he truly did but if they were going to embark on this mission together for a while then what was the harm in keeping conversation going for now? "At Hogwarts I mean, not on some trophy in this room."
Carefully he stretched his back, getting on the tip of his toes to have a good look at a silver medal on one of the top shelves to decipher the name on it. With a disappointed sigh he slumped again once realising that he hadn't found what he was looking for.
The small jab at their last encounter made Ruka turn back towards the other boy, expression blank as he mustered him. "I suppose so," he agreed faintly. All effects of love potion had worn off since then and as far as he knew Jack hadn't had any issues with Slug Boy following those events. None serious enough for discussion at least. "Let's maybe stay away from love potion laced things from now on anyway." A small breath of laughter escaped him at the request. It wasn't like he and Jack hadn't set themselves up for anything that had happened while Hanako and Flash had been under the influence of the love potion, so who was he to be making such suggestions?
For all Slug Boy cared he probably would never have wanted to be subject to such a thing in the first place.
Moving on from the subject, Ruka let his gaze drift down to fix on where the other boy's hand vanished in the pocket of his cloak, out of sight. Preparation for an attack maybe, a nervous gesture or just something done for comfort. Still, the fact that Ruka didn't have complete view of everything the Slytherin may be up to left him with a certain discomfort in his stomach.
"Three years," he mumbled to himself as he contemplated the implications of Hanako's words, a flicker of something grave and mourning crossing his face before new found determination made him move over to another shelf to continue his search there. "Do you know where she is?" He assumed the other boy hadn't been able to use the word Mother for the past three years because she hadn't been around, but maybe it was also just a result of a bad relationship. The tone of Slug Boy's voice didn't betray any angry or upset emotions, but neither did Ruka's whenever he spoke of his absent mother, so that didn't seem like sufficient evidence that it didn't weigh on the other boy anyway.
"I know a thing or two about absent mothers too," he said uselessly. The fact that he had already told Hanako that the only family member he knew was his dad should have already betrayed the fact that his mother wasn't around, but for some reason Ruka felt like he needed to make it clear again anyway. "Mine didn't stick around long enough for me to ever call her that. Maybe I'm lucky. Maybe you are. Depends on our mothers, I guess." He chuckled lightly before pulling a mock offended face at the suggestion that he might need someone to lift him up. Having been raised by someone as prideful as his father had been, Ruka would never have dreamt of asking Slug Boy for a lift.
He would have rather died breaking his neck falling off during an attempt to climb the shelves.
"Ah, only took a month for me to be able to put a name to the face," he said as if that was a fact he severely regretted, a hand placed over his chest dramatically, covering the flame shamed pendant over his heart. "I've been calling you Slug Boy in my mind up until now. Not particularly clever, but so suiting."
Ruka rolled his eyes lightly at the pose the other boy struck upon introducing himself, faint amusement sparking his eyes at the way Hanako seemed to almost scramble away from the discomfort of the topic he'd been plunging into just moments before. Silent waters may have been deep, but a waterfall could hide and distract from so many things one may have wanted to keep shielded from the rest of the world.
Living loud had the advantage of drawing people to the noise rather than to what was to be found in the depths of the drowned out silence.
"So, Hanako Tone," Ruka said as if testing out the way the name felt on his tongue. "Why exactly are we looking for your mother on any of these trophies here? Did she play Quidditch? Top student, maybe? There was a list of top students over there somewhere, you might want to have a look at that."

*note it has been more than a year since I wrote a reply as Ruka likes to remind me. So, there may be things that didn't add up since the last post also because my heart is too sensitive to re-read old writing.
[font=PT Sans]
What the hell. Was what the point of trying to make someone else uncomfortable when it didn’t even work!? Hanako turned his head away from Lil Pup in hopes of hiding his annoyance. Bringing up his family information usually invoked an uncomfortable emotion from others. He assumed it was a pity most of the time. From the times he did bring it up, the other party would always be left speechless and got their tongue-tied in the end. Because they could at least name more than 10 family members. Could he have gotten too cocky to quickly assume Lil Pup was any different? Many individuals he had met here in Hogwarts had always seemed to broaden his view on different characters. As interesting as it is, what the hell. He never asked for an information exchange! Well, then again he had done the same to Lil Pup. But this wasn’t information he was mentally equipped to continue.
And a father as his only family member? And now dead? Hell no was he going to touch on that subject. He knew any reply he had was not something Lil Pup needed nor wanted to hear. It won’t ever be helpful nor memorable. Therefore, Hanako chose to ignore a possible path to ask more questions, determined to keep a shut lid on this certain conversation about dead dads. “ Ah! A fellow kid with a very short family tree~. Should I give you a high five?“ Not to brag but- heh- oh who am I kidding, Of course I’m bragging~! Anyways, whenever I’m in a good mood- which would be pretty obvious look by the way- my peers would be ready to form a line for my high fives. A line! Quite a catch I am, yea? “ he joked.
Lil Pup could think he was heartless for all he cared. Hanako was dumb but not enough to give fake encouragement to a kid who revealed he lost his dad. One that probably was more than just close to him with that creepy laugh of his when he talked about it. The death of a close family member was not an experience Hanako ever had to go through. And he wasn’t a master of carefully spoken words. Hanako seemed convinced enough that he was like this because it was easy to call this bothersome to deal with. Unbeknownst to the Japanese boy, there was a small part of him that didn’t want to further upset the boy. It’s just that shamelessly making the conversation about himself was the only way he knew that could make both of them stop the conversation. One that he regretted bringing up now although he didn’t look too guilty.
At the mention of his siblings being at Hogwarts, Hanako was unable to conceal a flash of fear. If Ruka noticed, it was the kind of fear where just the thought of the situation would cause a lot of trouble for you. Something he definitely didn’t want happening and would be ready to prevent. “ Hahah… no no.. they can’t be.” Hanako attempted to cough out, losing some of its playfulness in them despite his best efforts to keep it. “ That would be..quite.. Troublesome..” he muttered out the last part to himself, his gaze suddenly blurred and unfocused before he shook his head and showed his usual innocent grin and a chuckle.
“ They’re a bunch of serious bunches. Wouldn’t be particularly interested in the magical field~” he lied rather sloppily. Unbefitting of a self-proclaimed liar. Before he was one, he was just a kid that grew up in an environment where he was forced to see just how ‘worthless’ he is compared to his ‘gifted’ siblings. It was the deep-rooted envy in his heart that made him sprout out his next words. “ They’re already so good at muggle school. Wouldn’t it be too much trouble if they excelled in magic school as well? I mean-” he chuckled almost darkly “ honestly..”
At this moment, someone observant would catch a glimpse of who Hanako really was under that aloof careless exterior. Hurt. Crushed with the thought of having to be known once again of the ‘ ungrateful kid in the family ‘? The troublemaker? Didn’t deserve to be related to such amazing people? Hanako was unable to continue his train of thought as the realization came to him.
Ruka was still here.
Like a flip of a switch, his eyes turned to Ruka once more with smiling eyes that didn’t look as happy as they should. Empty. Since it was that easy for him to pretend something didn’t exist. His prior hurt being one of them “ Welllll~” he sang, his original playful tone coming back.” I don’t know about you- but I rather not have anyone knowing any of my special abilities. I'm already so popular because of my charm and elegance~! My social schedule would be packed if I was known for being talented as well! Gosh!” he sighed dramatically in defeat, filled with crafted ego on full display. “My totally existing cute face, though?” He placed both his hands on his face to emphasize his ‘cuteness’ and with a jovial tone, he continued “ I have no problems with~ hohoho~”. He had returned to his ‘normal’ self at this point. He refused to acknowledge his slip up from earlier and only hoped Lil Pup did the same thing. If he chose to go against Hanako’s silent wish, he would crank up the annoying meter just to avoid answering.
He wrinkled his nose at the Pup’s suggestion at ‘ staying away from love potion laced things’. Like Hanako had a choice! “ ah yes~” he uttered out bitterly “ let’s pray that no one elses becomes the victim of such things, yea?” with this statement, he paused, rethinking his words. “...I changed my mind. I’ll pray that if I’m not said victim. I hope whenever another valentine card claims another victim- I will be on the other side. The side where I can laugh amusingly as I watch the card taking effect. One more strategically placed. Can’t be tackled by a loved crazed maniac can we? Awful experience isn’t it? “ he feigned compassion playfully. He had not a lot of memories of when he was in the trance, but he hoped his target of ‘love’ had been either Ruka or Jack. Didn’t matter who. He only hoped his crazed state had left one of them an unpleasant memory.
Hanako thought he had already escaped talking about family matters, but it seemed like he just had to jump into another one. God! When will it stop?! He knew he bought it upon himself and he reaped what he sowed but, how was he supposed to know Ruka had that rough of a childhood. He wanted to think that Ruka looked rather ‘normal’ for someone with a history like this. Fortunately, Hanako knew well enough that someone's appearance may not always match the assumptions others made, so he thought overwise. As Ruka suggested earlier, they both weren’t strangers to the concept of absent mothers. Hanako liked his extra comment on the lack of exchanged information about their mothers to determine who was the ‘luckier’ one. If Ruka were to easily call Hanako the luckier on in this situation because ‘at least he could still see his’, would’ve resulted in a rather feisty argument. One he was rather fond of avoiding.
As a sign of respect, no unnecessary retorts came from the Japanese boy. Just a small hum, a quick nod of respect, and a smile significantly more genuine than his previous ones. The Lil Pup probably was unaware of how rare this kind of reaction from Hanako was. With high pride and ego such as his, it was near impossible. Nevertheless, Hanako thought the crappy little puppy deserved it. But this was also a subject Hanako wanted to close. He felt almost like an intruder. Knowing these kinds of information would’ve made him think they were at the very least, ‘ friends ‘. Hanako almost snorted at the thought. No. Never friends. If he had a chance to go back in the past and take back his comment on families, he would’ve done so in a heartbeat.
Yet, Hanako didn’t hate this certain present as much as he would’ve thought. He blamed it on the weather.“... now I do~” he grinned, choosing to answer Ruka’s previous question about his mother “ Unspeakables. Drat things. You’re well aware of those, right? Even saying their names pisses me off” he let out a bellowed laugh, lacking the anger he mentioned. “ I thought entering the magic world would help me understand her sudden disappearance better. Only to know there was nothing for me to understand in the first place.” Like Ruka, he said this without any lingering emotions that suggested his real thoughts on his mother. There was simply none. It was a mere statement. A simple answer to a simple question. Unlike his raging jealousy towards his siblings, his thoughts on his mother were already solidified. “ I suppose unspeakables are better than ...cat trainers or something” he paused, realizing he had shared something he didn’t want to. His hatred of cats. With this, he looked back at Lil Pup with a dead panned face and utmost seriousness “ No, I will not be taking any questions. Shoo” he waved off like Ruka was a pesky paparazzi.
Hanako winced at his apparently ‘ suiting ‘ nickname the Lil Pup had created. “ At least the nickname I gave you was cute. Sheesh. Couldn’t do the same for me, is it? Psftt” he feigned hurt but failed to contain little chuckles. “ Does my misery amuses you? Feels good righhhtttt~?” Just as he was done containing his chuckles, he coughed out and reverted back to his previous role of being an emotionally wounded child. “ Gosh! I can’t even stay upset for too long. Causes early wrinkles to my adorable face!” he whined annoyingly.
As Lil Pup repeated the name Hanako gave him, he narrowed his eyes on the shorter boy. “ I changed my mind. Hannah would be easier for you to pronounce, yeah? One I prefer hearing as well” It wasn’t mockery, but honesty. The only one that had ever called him Hanako was his grandmother. His ears weren’t equipped well enough to comprehend anyone else saying ‘Hanako’ without getting irritated. Hannah was the name he went for all his life, anyways.
“ And my purpose for being here and looking for my dear old mum?” he allowed himself to release a laugh which didn’t fit the situation “ Hm…awww this suckkss. I can’t recall it much now. Boo hoo~” he lied through his joyful tone with no intention of hiding it. “ But you know… Whatever that reason may be and how I forgot such an important detail, I blame you for it~” he winked impishly at the other boy, having no intention to reveal the fact that he had plans to commit vandalism. True enough that he felt the prior urge to smash things had significantly decreased when the two boys had started talking. Which was odd. The idea of getting angrier once they started talking seemed the most likely to happen. Yet the results were different. Hanako hasn’t decided if it was good or bad.
Hanako didn’t look like he was kidding about forgetting why he came here. Just after he said so, he had turned his attention away from the numerous displays of achievements and stretched his arms lazily. Like it no longer held his interest “ Gaaahhh. Yare yare, looking around was a waste of time, eh? Shame” as if he couldn’t care less. He didn’t have enough remorse to tell Lil Pup a short ‘sorry’ for wasting his time and making him search with him. It was actually quite fun, as stressful some of their topics of conversation were. Like hell, he’ll let the other know about it, though. He liked looking like an asshat, thank you very much. “ Well, now that we’re done with talking about me, what are you here for. Quite an unlikely place to have a quick lunch.” he recalled the apple the boy had earlier.
