Rose replied in her soft voice, "I know, right? They are kinda similar," closing the conversation. Her voice had a strong American accent. As Lyra sat down, Rose said, "Of course," Rose was very glad to see that Teresa welcomed Lyra. Lyra noticed that Rose really wanted to hold the little bowtruckle and asked her so. Rose smiled sheepishly and nodded enthusiastically, saying, "Yeah... Thank you..." She held her hand next to Lyra's so Oak the bowtruckle could climb into her hand. He eventually did and Rose held him out while she scooched back, making their former line a triangle, equally spacing herself from the other girls so that they could see each other without leaning around Rose. After she moved, Rose slowly moved her hand so it rested on her knee, her palm open. She was watching Oak watch her curiously. She used her other hand to gently stroke him with her knuckles. Bowtruckles were amazing creatures, at least Rose thought so. She had heard her friend Alina mention how interesting they were and made a mental note to pick a book up at the library about bowtruckles. As Teresa asked in a peculiar way what House Lyra was in and then apologized, Rose was inwardly amused about how well sorted Teresa was.

Lyra chuckled as Teresa apologized. “No worries, yeah I am a Ravenclaw. I was a bit of a Hatstall though. I tend to apologize for most things I say too, so it’s okay.” She gave her a reassuring smile than widened her eyes as she realized that she had completely omitted her last name in her introduction. “Right, I’m sorry, I forgot to mention my last name. It’s Lake, Lyra Lake.” Her dad would not be very proud at how un-lady like she must be appearing right now. Lyra held up her book as Teresa asked about it. “Oh, it’s a book about Magical Creatures, they really fascinate me more than anyother thing. I’m currently focusing on Bowtruckles, to help Oak, and Thestrals. I’ve met a few in the Forbidden Forest and I felt really bad at how much they were misunderstood. Some people used to kill them because they believed thestrals killed people, would you believe it?!” The brunette shook her head in annoyance and anger, than realized she was rambling and caught herself. “Sorry about that, I tend to get very passionate about magical creatures.”
Teresa seemed interested at her book, so Lyra held it out to her. Lyra surprised herself by doing that since she didn’t usually share books like these. “I found it in the Restricted Section, it was the only copy. Would you wanna read it?”
Lyra usually went book-hunting at night when she had nightmares and couldn’t sleep. The door to the library was never locked, so she slipped in, bringing a small flashlight, and spent her time reading, either Muggle books and books about Magical Creatures. The brunette was surprised at herself because she had never been one for factual books, but the stories behind these creatures were so intricate, magical and interesting that it was very similar to fantasy, except it was real.

Teresa breathed out relieved she didn't offend Lyra. "Ah, I'm glad that I guess right, haha..." Teresa scratched the back of her neck. "And...that I didn't offend you hopefully...heh."
"Oh!" Teresa clapped her hands together. "You both have such beautiful names!" Teresa smiled and turned to both girls praising their names. Then she turned to Rose giving her a response? A question? A rhetorical question? Who knows, let Rose decide. "Maybe muggles won't ever change, but I must admit my father is a muggle and he doesn't perceive us as our grandparents do...but! Enough rumbling about muggles versus witches and wizards."
Teresa then switched her attention to Lyra and her book. "Ooo! Magical Creatures! An amazing book to read!" Teresa praised once again, now Lyra's book. "Ah, yes. Some people can be so cruel, it's so unfair!"
Teresa shook her head in assurance. "No, no! I ramble a lot too about the things I am passionate about, so no worries." She smiled honestly and then nodding in yes. "Ah, yes. You would be so kind if you borrowed me the book after you're finished." The girl smiled again.
Teresa was actually really surprised how well she is doing with making friends. She was known as the loner and the shy one. She is loud and really talkative once you get to know her, but she let only a few to actually get to know her.

Lyra smiled at Teresa's kind comments. "Your name is really nice too. Your last name is cool as well." She took her bookmark out of the book and handed it to the Hufflepuff. "You can have it now, I've read it twice and either written down or memorized most of it, it's really fascinating. Out of curiosity have you met thestrals or Hippogriffs?" The Ravenclaw's eyes widened and she clamped her hand over her mouth. People only saw thestrals if they had seen someone die, so that was most definitely an insensitive question to ask. "Oh, I'm so sorry! I forgot that... well, what had to happen for people to see thestrals. I guess I've gotten too used to seeing them." She laughed nervously and cursed at herself. 'You idiot! Asking about a magical creature that you can see if you've seen death is not a good way to make friends, Lyra, cmon!' she thought, rather angry at herself. "I was asking about the Hippogriff since I swear I saw one earlier, somewhere on school grounds. Maybe the older students are studying them during Care of Magical Creatures or something."

Rose shrugged. "It's all good, Lyra," she said, lifting her emerald eyes up from Oak to Lyra. She hesitated, and then continued, "Just out of curiosity, who in your life..." she really wanted to just say, "Who died?" But that would be really insensitive and immature. She took a deep breath and finished, "Enabled you to see thestrals?" she emphasised the 'you' as if she could see them, too. She immediately stopped herself and said, "Oh my gosh, that was so rude," she added and brought her hand to her forehead. "Nevermind, I'm sorry."
'Wow, Rose, you just met and you asked her to recount what was probably one of the worst moments of her life. You're doing a real great job at not being nosy or rude!' Rose scolded herself.
"Oh, can I borrow the book after you?" Rose asked Teresa. She turned to Lyra, adding, "Can I? I've always seen animals and magical creatures as fascinating..." she was lost in thought for a moment, thinking about how amazing creatueres and animals really were... The way they adapted and we're so different. The way some had a really bad rap... It was fascinating...
"The restricted section? How did you manage that?"

Lyra was relieved that Rose wasn't angry at her question. She had to be careful of what she said in the future since she was often outspoken and blunt, while other times though too much about what she was going to say. She nervously chuckled at Rose's question. "Ah... it's okay. There were actually two instances.. my twin brother when I was 7 and my dad a couple years later. Can you see them? You obviously don't have to answer if you're not comfortable with it of course." She took a deep breath to calm herself, since she didn't want to tense up the atmosphere. Questions about her brother and father didn't really bother her during the daytime, but at night she sometimes had nightmares. It was fine though, Lyra had gotten used to it. For some strange reason, Rose and Teresa were amongst the people she trusted here, so she was fine with telling them. She had to be careful though. It seems like since coming to Hogwarts, she had easily started to trust people, and that could backfire on her. But they seemed incredibly kind, so Lyra considered them as her friends.
"Yeah, you can definitely borrow it, just try to avoid being seen with it. I'm glad so many people agree with the fact that they truly are amazing. It's actually pretty easy to get books from there. The librarian's patterns are very repetitive. I watched them for about a whole afternoon, then at nightfall, when the library was empty but before curfew, I quietly went it to get the book. I made some slight noises, so I waited about 30 minutes in silence before leaving and going up to my dorm."

"Ah, thank you. It's my father's last name. If my mum didn't get married, we would have her german last name." Teresa stated, maybe to clear things up? Yeah... even though no one asked her. She tended to give information without realizing no one really cares...
Teresa took Lyra's book when she handed it to her. "Ah, really? Thank you!" She smiled widely. "Hippogriffs, yes. The same way you did. And about thestrals... no one, fortunately... But, I saw my dog die once... if animals count. If not, then no I never have seen then anyway." Well, her brother almost died and the creature she saw... she sure thought it was thestral and that made her worry about her brother's life. But you can't see the creatures if he survived, right?

"Cool," Rose commented on Teresa's little piece if backstory.
Rose swallowed and then answered awkwardly, "I'm so sorry about your brothers and your dad, that's so sad... Yeah, I can see them, too. My dad died when I was three." Rose flipped her amber braid over her shoulder. "I don't remember it, though," she lied. She was a very good lier for the goody-two-shoes peacemaker most thought she was. She was also relieved that Lyra hadn't gotten super sad or offended at her rude and nosy question. She was so curious about so many things, she almost couldn't help herself sometimes.
"Of course, that's fine. You don't need to give yourself a deadline. Whenever you're finished with it is totally fine," Rose told Teresa about the book. She then promised, "Don't worry, I'll keep it a secret, too." If she ever got caught with the book, she would probably like that she had found it on the grounds or something, probably play dumb about it, though most teachers would be suspicious because she was known to be a bright student.
"Wow, that's so smart... Rose marveled. It really was amazing how she had done it. "You must have been really patient and clever to do that."

"Oh, you're German! That's where your slight accent came from. Have you ever been to Germany?" Lyra asked. She had always been curious about Germany, especially concerning Muggle history."I'm not sure animals count, I think I read a book where it said it was only humans. the Ravenclaw shrugged. "Thanks to both of you for not telling people." As Rose mentioned the death of her father, Lyra reached over and hugged her. She wasn't sure if Rose was comfortable with it, and she immediately drew back, not wanting to invade her personal space. Dang it.. I really hope she's comfortable with hugging like I am- "Sorry if you're not a hugger. I tend to assume other people are since I am."
When both girls complimented her, the brunette reddened. "It wasn't really hard to do, I brought along another book to distract myself anyway. I do it every once it a while. "Yeah, I think so...heh." Teresa asked/said, awkwardly scratching her hair.
"Ah, ja. I was born there before I moved to Manchester with my family." So, her thick accent was clearly heard when she talked. Of course, she was aware of her accent getting through, but she wasn't sure how clear it was. Well, yes. She lived with her accent for twelve years now, but maybe accent sounded different for non-accent haver?
"Ah, okay." Teresa lightly laughed. "Then I suppose, I can give myself a day or two after the deadline." She joked.
"Oh," Teresa breathed out when she heard about the 'humans only thing'. "Then, I suppose, no I haven't." She lied, she was sure she saw thestrals when her brother was fighting for his life in the hospital for a week, but he didn't...died, so was she sure she saw them?
"Aw, why not!" Teresa clapped her hands and nodded her head, smiling at Lyra. "I'd love to visit the Forbidden Forest for once without going there just for ingredients for Potion class." She stopped and thought for a while, it was rude. She just blurted out an answer without letting Rose speak. "I mean if Rose wants to go with us, too." She awkwardly smiled at Rose.
