Dear Flash,

From the minute you spoke to me, I knew you were special. I didn't want to let you know how much lest it go to your head...and maybe I didn't want to admit it to myself at the time, either. The thing is...I knew you were special because of how you tried so hard to put up a barrier between us from the start. Ironically, that's the thing that I think drew me to you the most. Misery loves company, as they say. Birds of a feather flock together. It takes one to know one.

I wasn't so sure about you at first. Like I said, I didn't want to admit that I saw you as different and I probably didn't want to get my hopes up, either. As so few are able to do, however, you not only defied my expectations, but you did so in what I'd like to think was one of your most natural states - with your nerves frayed to the limits of your patience. It impressed me to say the least. But I still had quite a bit to learn about who I had just crossed paths with.

Yes, I know of your brother and his feats. However, I still don't think he can compare to the person that is you. Even in the relatively short time I've come to know and learn about you - observing you interacting with others, discovering your motivations for your behaviors, finding out what core values are most important to you and why - I'm coming to learn that despite what may seem to be our differences on the outside, we're beginning to seem more and more similar within.

That may be beneficial to both of us or it could be detrimental. Only time will tell. In the meantime, though, I want you to know that despite what I might lead you to believe, I'm fairly certain I know exactly who you are. And you know what? I love you no less for it. But I think for now I'll keep quiet until you yourself are more comfortable with that version of you you're so desperately trying to hide. Because what good will knowing that another loves you do until you can first learn to love yourself?

Sincerely,

An Anonymous Admirer
