the snow-covered Courtyard.

The merry sight of snowy hills and the smell of chilled spice in the air hit Jrue all in one big emotional wintery moment as she walked out into the Courtyard of Hogwarts. She allowed herself a moment to bask in the air as a snowflake hit her nose, continuing to make her way down to the edge of the Courtyard. The snowy bricks and columns shocked by the falling flakes looked beautiful in the hesitant light of the afternoon sun, Jrue thought, and she couldn't wait to partake in the chilly activities the snow bared.

Her leather satchel bounced on her hip, full of her scrolls and quills, and her cloak swooshed behind her like a bridal veil elegantly. Winter was always so lovely. Foremost, she didn't need to hide from the sun. It was easier to move about in the wintery months, when the sun was shielded and veiled by the clouds or the trees or the snow. She loved it, that and the cheer that always came with the countdown to Christmas. Jrue felt much of this particular joy today, having completed her homework and classes and now being free to frolick wherever she wanted.

Racing through the courtyard, which was mostly empty spare for one or two students, Jrue hummed to herself quietly. Nothing in particular, just a random assortment of notes and tones. She passed an archway, grabbing onto the column as she rounded the corner with a hint of speed. She sped up as she saw the opening to the fields.

That's when she almost nicked her; a Slytherin standing in the doorway that led to the corridor. Jrue's eyes flashed open. The girl had a grimace on her face, and it was directed right at her. Little fizzy feelings erupted in Jrue's heart as she ran past her, turning around for a moment to slip a fast "Sorry!". She watched as the girl brushed her off, and turned around again to see hills of snow in front of her. Yes! She'd made it. She couldn't get rid of the icky feeling from that girl. Slytherins... they were all so scary. How could her mother have been a Slytherin? ... It really made sense, on second thought.

The snow was cold on her ankles, chilling the skin through her boots as she raced through the powdery material on the hillside. A small clearing nestled between some trees and a small archway leading to another entrance to the castle courtyard was calling her name. There was so much snow, so much potential! Jrue buzzed with energy as she dashed through the snow, flakes nestling themselves on her hair and the shoulders of her cloak.

Her objective: Operation build a Snowman

The snowdrift was shocking to her fingers as she grabbed snow and balled it up, her skin soft and warm. Jrue packed it together, then dropping it into the snow and rolling it forwards, the ball increasing in size. Jrue brushed her hands on her cloak, snow bits falling onto the ground and flakes flurrying off. She pulled her hood over the back of her head, just enough so she was recognizable but able to keep herself from getting wet. She bit the tip of her tongue thoughtfully as she continued to roll the ball forward, it's size significantly larger than what she started with. This snowman was going to be the best in all of Hogwarts.

One Pomodoro later, Jrue had stacked three perfectly shaped and sized balls on top of each other, rounded out into shimmery balls fit for a head and torso. "Oh, silly snowman, whatever shall I name you?" She said aloud to herself, then grimaced. "Certainly NOT whoever that was that glared at me earlier. She should've seen me coming-" Jrue rolled her shoulders, brushing the thought away quickly as she poked holes in the snowman's face with her wand. Two perfect little eyes and a smile to suit him. "Now my scarf-" Jrue unraveled her scarf off of her neck, the Hufflepuff emblem on the front. She smiled before wrapping it around his snow-neck snugly, stepping back to admire her own handiwork.

Mission accomplished, She thought to herself, tucking her hands in her sweater to warm herself up as she smiled at the snow, footprints and piles of snow disturbed around her.

Snow. Too cold, too white (kinda blinding) and too much of everything. Her favorite season may be winter but that doesn't mean she must like snow. She in fact despises it and prefers it to be raining. Everything about rain is beautiful. The smell, the sound of its pit pattering off of buildings. The way it washes everything away and leaves everything feeling...clean. And rain doesn't always have to be cold. It could be raining and feel warm. Unlike snow. It's always freezing when it's snowing, forcing her to bundle up in layer after layer after layer. It's exhausting having to dress like that and inconvenient to get undressed when after the day all you want to do is lay down.

Cursing the world, Bree walks along the courtyard. She would've gone inside if it didn't feel like its a thousand degrees in there. Which unfortunately forced her to go outside. Although luckily for her it stopped snowing. Finding a snow free bench, she sits down and wraps her coat tighter around her, trying to block out the cold. Pulling out a book her cousin so nicely loaned to her, she gets lost in the world made from Mitch Albom. The book is called For one more Day and is very bittersweet. At least to her. Hazel was talking about the book and saying how lovely it was. She then said, no wrote, that Bree should read it. Desperate for a new reading material from the muggle world, Bree agreed. And now she hasn't been able to get her nose out of it since last night when it arrived.

About twenty minutes later, Bree sighs loudly as she shuts the book. She has a chapter left in it but decide to leave it for later tonight. Shivering from the coldness, she looks around. Most students are still inside, chatting and talking. Biting her lip, she pulls out a piece of parchment paper. Getting her quill, she starts a letter to Hazel. Suddenly, a numbing draft passes through taking her paper with her. Grumbling unpleasant words under her breath, she makes sure her stuff is secured to the bench before getting up to get the paper.

Looking around, she spots it flying in the breeze. Starting after it, she stops. Freezing as if shes a ice statue, she watches in horror and her paper lands on the back of a snowman. Hearing a voice, she spots a girl laughing with the snowman. Snapping her out of the trance, she starts toward them. Almost to the snowman and the girl, her foot sinks into the snow.

"What the hell!" She exclaims, as she tries to pull her foot out. It wasn't budging. Losing balance she tumbles straight into the snowman. The snowman collapses falling on her. Kicking her foot, she frees it and pushes herself up and turns to the girl. "Curse this stupid snowman! Why in the world did you have to make one right now?!" Her entire body is covered in snow. She feels it melting against her skins, soaking her clothes and causing her to be colder than before.

The chilly air froze her feet, causing her to tremble just a little bit as the breeze blew against her. Her snowman was perfect- just the bright spot she needed to make the chilly day better. Her classes had been rather boring- and she hadn't much filled her social bar, but now she had a companion to keep her happy- "Sir Snowball, the grand and tall. I think it fits you just right don't you agree-" She closed her eyes, speaking to the icey man yet again.

Sounds other than her own voice filled her ears; the crunching snow, fluttering of paper, and a girl cursing. Jrue's eyes shot open now, contrast to their earlier state, and she watched in slow motion as a girl came tumbling down on her dear friend. The girl had long curly brown hair that fell around her face, little clumps of snow now finding themselves entangled in it. Jrue's hands cupped around her mouth, gasping as she realized what had now happened.

Not a moment passed before the girl had rebounded, standing straight up and grumbling at nobody at all. Jrue was going to speak, but the mysterious snowman murderer was now facing her, finger pointed and ready to roll. "Curse this stupid snowman!" Her eyes were wide, fixed on the angry girls face. Little snowflakes and beads of water were dappled around her face and neck, snow caked around her clothing. She didn't recognize the girl, she was probably in a higher class. Jrue didn't know whether or not she should feel embarrassed. For herself, for the girl, that this whole thing had played out. All of it, or none of it, she cleared her eyelashes of the snow that had settled and spoke softly.

"...Well, it's Christmas.. and I'm not in the middle of a walkway-" The younger girl muttered to the older, biting her bottom lip insecurely as she recalled the events that unfolded. "I'm sorry you're all wet- it was just an accident, though..." Flakes started to flurry down on the pair, the other girl, Jrue now noticed, a good several inches taller than her. She had been upset earlier, and if the girl continued this rude demeanor she would end up upset for the second time. "I don't think it's my fault, but if you'd like you can take my hat and cloak-" She continued to bite at her lower lip, taking a step backwards from the girl and tensing her shoulders at the sound of the snowy crunch.
