Expectations
Mia sat exactly the way her mother had taught her: tall, elegant and composed was her family’s way of life for basically everything. Except for the odd life threatening situation where the only option was to run away. Then you were allowed to freak out all you wanted and none of your relatives would bat an eyelid at it. Mia had slipped into the pose with practiced ease as her inquisitive eyes glided over the decorations on the wall specially put up for the start of term feast. Seeming impressed, she turned to the headmaster who was starting his speech. Although her mother had trained her vigorously for this exact moment, she still felt the overwhelming excitement she had felt the night before. Of course, she was expected to live up to certain standards that her parents had set when they first walked through the doors. There was first her mother’s extraordinary intelligence and then there was her father’s quick wit. She felt the familiar weight of expectation settling on her shoulders as she let out a sigh. Saying she had a lot to live up to was an understatement. She obviously knew that this was a blessing in a way but still couldn’t help feeling pressured by all of this. Suddenly, she was snapped out of her train of thought as a loud crack sounded in the Great Hall and a myriad of delicacies appeared on the house tables. Smiling slightly to herself, she began loading her plate with a bit of everything and started eating happily. This was going to be a wonderful year.
