The Library. It wasn't uncommon to find the Ravenclaw here at this time. Besides the Astronomy Tower, this was probably the place she most frequented. Especially now since she was preparing for finals. She had her multitude of books in her bag as she dragged it, and herself, to the library to study. While she did not enjoy studying, she did infact enjoy getting good grades and needed to study for that to happen.

She made her way over to the back area of the library. It had been her preferred place to sit and study for a while now. It was quiet and not many people came to study there specifically. Why? She didn't know. But what she did know was that it had a nice big window and a beautiful view to sit next to. With a smile on her face she hurridly went over to that spot.

Except this time she wasn't alone there. For once, there was someone else there as well. It wasn't a person unknown to her however. Henry Holbrook. A hufflepuff student in her year. She had interacted with him during the pride boat parade where they had been in the same group. It was fun working with him. Surprising to see him here but perhaps he too enjoyed the quiet.

Hello! She said, her voice soft so as to both not startle him and not make noise in the library. You here to study as well? She asked, holding up her bag. She placed it on the desk and took her books out before sitting opposite him.

Henry had found the window completely by happenstance, and had actually done so this very day, as a matter of fact. Most of his studying had taken place in the Hufflepuff Common Room up until now, but with the temperature rising it was often too stuffy in the basement for him to read through chapter after chapter. The muggleborn had nodded off six times yesterday afternoon trying to fight his way through the Astronomy textbook. Wound up having a dream involving the Olympian pantheon teaming up with the Seven Dwarves to face off against Headmaster Lear in an eighteen-on-one sword fight. As far as dreams went, it was thoroughly entertaining. Woke up laughing his arse off. As a study session...? Let's just say there was definitely room for improvement. Now feeling utterly betrayed by the creature comforts of his usual studying space - the plush yellow armchair by the fireplace (quite possibly another contributing factor in his mid-cram snoozefest) - he decided to set out in search of completely new spots where he could be marvelously inept at committing his textbook to memory.

Now... obviously the library was the first spot that had come to mind for the task. That was one of the main reasons for its existence after all, was it not? Unfortunately... that was the problem. Everyone else was already here. Every table was packed, students patrolled the aisles in droves, and fear of a disapproving librarian was the only thing keeping the rowdier students from kicking up a fuss. This precise dilemma had ushered him further into the recesses of the wizarding archive. The need for a space where the din of other frantic students was manageable, though never quite gone.

The view from the window had been enough to bring the boy's aimless wandering to a halt. Perhaps breathtaking views was not particularly high on the list of priorities for most people when seeking the perfect space for seeking knowledge. But this Hufflepuff was not most people. If he couldn't have the comfort of his favorite chair, then damn it Henry could at least have something nice to make up for the fact that, for the foreseeable future, he'd be up to his ears in the dry academic pontificating found throughout the tomes in his bookbag.

So there he'd been, nestled in the underappreciated nook, thumbing through the same chapter that had lulled him off to sleep the day before, when a familiar voice pulled his attention from it. Now, unlike their previous encounter - Henry actually managed not to leap out of his skin at Fawkes' appearance. In fact the fairly short boy smiled up at the Ravenclaw as he placed a finger on the parchment to mark where he'd stopped reading. "Hey there, Fawkes. You also here to keep the horror of a Troll grade as far from your school report as possible?"

Fawkes was a bit surprised he didn't get startled by her suddenly speaking to him but she was glad she didn't scare him. He seemed to be reading the Astronomy textbook. Now she wasn't one to brag, but out of all her textbooks and classes, she knew the Astronomy one cover to cover. Well most of the stuff was stuff she already knew but still! Astronomy was her life! She doubted she would survive long without being able to watch the stars.

The mention of a Troll made her shiver. She prided on the fact she got perfect grades. She hated getting anything less than a beautiful O. In fact, she couldn't fathom seeing anything less than that. So by all accounts she was infact here to keep Trolls away from her beautifully perfect report card.

Yeah I'm trying to not get a Troll. I doubt I'd be able to deal with getting one. She felt another shiver down her spine. Of all the frightening people she met at this school, nothing was scarier than a Troll on her report.

Anyways what you reading? She asked curious. Well, she knew what exactly he was reading but regardless she asked him either ways about it. She had some of her Astronomy notes in her bag which she had forgotten to take out the night before so if he needed them, she was more than glad to give them. I'm doing History of Magic. I don't understand how people can find this subject interesting in the slightest.

Henry chuckled a bit to himself, the air filling with a soft rustle as he turned a page in the textbook, "Judging by the look on your face - I take it you'd rather fight a literal troll. Not bucking the Ravenclaw stereotypes today, now are we?" A kind but teasing tone, learned from his father and sister, colored the boy's voice as his blue eyes flicked up to the girl he'd started to consider a bit of a friend, even though they hadn't interacted all that much prior to a few weeks ago.

As his gaze returned to the text, his brow furrowed ever so slightly, "It's Astronomy. I like stargazing, don't get me wrong. It's just the whole... technical aspect that's getting the better of me right now. Not doing much better with Potions, to be honest, but I suspect that might be a lost cause at this point. I thought it'd be fun at first, like baking a cake. Main problem for me is, batter doesn't explode if you get distracted and forget an ingredient."

He gestured to the seat near him if she'd like to join him. "If you think History of Magic is bad, you ought to have heard the lectures I had to sit through at Muggle primary school. This is fascinating by comparison. " The mention of runes during one of their earliest classes had particularly caught his attention. Prior to this year, he'd always just thought runes was just what you called Viking writing, or something out of Lord of the Rings, not actual magic. "I took decent notes, if you want to look 'em over."

"Blimey, now I'm starting to sound like a Ravenclaw too." He said with a chuckle and a shake of his head.

She chuckled at his mention of fighting an actual troll. Oh most definitely. A real troll over getting one on my report card any day of the week. Well she was playing a bit into the Ravenclaw stereotypes but she couldn't help it! Maybe that's why she was placed into Ravenclaw in the first place. She truly was one through and through.

She listened to his woes about Astronomy and Potions. She had found out she was relatively decent at the subject. Then again, her family did deal with a lot of selling of potions and other goods alike. Not to mention her cousin was a bit of a mad scientist when it came to potion making. Considering he couldn't hear if he made any mistakes in his potion making it was truly a miracle he hadn't gotten into serious harm by this point. Blowing up the lab in their house? Yeah that had happened. In fact she had been present one time when it did. Truly scary at times.

Well memorising ingredients and recipes were another problem all together though. She could recreate them well as long as she had the instructions on how to do it. Without it, she did struggle quite a bit. Eh. It happened. She just needed to practice more. At some point, she'll have it memorised well enough to do it without the instructions. One day. Not today though.

Well if you add too much baking powder or baking soda into a cake it can technically 'explode'. It overflows from the bowl cause the batter has no time to set. Or something along those lines anyways. She had done it as a child according to her mother. She emptied the whole jar of baking powder into the cake her mother was making. It made a huge mess of the counter top which took a few hours to clean up.

I heard rumours about muggle history from my muggle friends. She shuddered. In fact more than just hearing about it, she had borrowed one of their history textbooks one day. She had been excited to read about it, history was interesting to learn about. Not so much to study and memorise however. But muggle history had been so boring she had ended up falling asleep after only reading the first 3 or 4 chapters. She only really fell asleep while reading when she was absolutely exhausted. However, she had dozed off due to how boring the book was. How did muggles study this stuff? She had no idea but was glad she didn't need to.

Nothing wrong with sounding like a Ravenclaw. She dismissed. Anyways I can't blame you for struggling with Astronomy. I seem to be a bit of an anomaly when it comes to my love for the subject. Sure there are plenty others who love Astronomy, but are kinda blank when it comes to the technical aspect of it. Well not everyone liked maths like how she did to begin with. She could deal with the more technical aspects of subjects like Astronomy.

I have notes if you'd like! She offered, sticking her head into her bag and looking inside it for a bit. She had too many unnecessary things in it. After a few minutes she exclaimed as she emerged from her bag with a big notebook in hand. Aha! Here it is. My beautiful Astronomy notes. Would recommend sticking to chapter 5. Yes. She had her notes classified by chapters. It's not only first year notes in that book. It contains some of my own research as well. So stick to chapter 5 otherwise you may get overwhelmed. She chuckled, handing him the notebook.

He blinked once... twice... his mouth hung agape for a split second before snapping shut, "Wait... wait, no, that was meant to be a joke. Lear's luminous lingerie, you'd literally rather fight a troll!? Aren't they dangerous!?" The usually quiet boy cleared his throat suddenly, worried his risen tone would bring the librarian's wrath down upon them. After looking about and thankfully not spotting an encroaching faculty member, he continued, quietly, "Fawkes, we're first years, what the bloody hell would either of us even be able to do against a troll? At least a letter on your report can't crush you into paste."

As she moves on to her baking anecdote, Henry, still more than a bit shocked, stared for a moment, before nodding along. The Hufflepuff had experienced his fair share of attempted bakery turned mad science experiment in his young life. The less said about the cupcakes he'd made for his dad's birthday last year, the better. A double measure of baking soda had led to them ballooning out of their tin; the mailman coming at precisely the wrong moment had led to him forgetting to set the timer. It had taken hours to completely scrape formerly red velvet flavored charcoal from the bottom of the stove once the fire alarm had started blaring. He sighed, "Yeah... yeah, that's a fair point. I know that can be from experience. Still, hard to lose your eyebrows that way, innit?" Indeed, Henry - well, so long as you hear the fire alarm in time. The boy decided it was better not to mention how he'd learned water should NOT be used on a grease fire. There were still scorch marks on the kitchen ceiling, even two years after the fact. And his singed hair had grown back. Eventually.

He chuckled, and a dimple appeared as a cheeky smirk twitched the corner of his lip for a moment, "Told ya HOM could be worse. Reckon I got more sleeping in my muggle history class than at home some days." An exaggeration, though a slight one. The droning, partnered with the heat of a warm spring day... well, how could any boy of 6-10 years old be expected to withstand that combination? The fact that most had managed to seemed a mystery to him.

A snarky eye roll and a huff of laughter came as a response to Fawkes claiming there was nothing wrong with him sounding like a member of her House. Not that she was wrong of course, though the young man would never admit that unless pressed. His eyes lit up as she offered him her notes, though, and he set his own History notes - written on slightly crumpled parchment with in a mostly legible scrawl - on the table in front of them. (Was that... forest green glitter pen ink they were written in rather than the standard quill fare? Yes, it was! And there were doodles in the margins as well.) Regardless of his unusual choice in writing instrument, he carefully retrieved the Astronomy notes, taking extra care not to damage them. He expected Fawkes would be rather cross with him if he did so.

He stared down at the notes - far beyond what they'd been expected to learn - then looked up at her, quirking his head to the side like a confused puppy, at an angle steep enough that a small portion of his messy brown hair flopped over from one side of his head to the other, "You number your notes? You do your own Astronomy research?" His eyes moved to his own notes, suddenly feeling incredibly self conscious, Are we meant to do that? I haven't been." The question was accompanied by a frown and a worried crease between his brows.

She watched him get increasingly confused as he looked at her notebook. She had expected this. Her notes were far beyond what an average 12 year old should know. But she couldn't help it. With her family being heavily involved in astronomy research it was inevitable that she would end up learning more complicated stuff way before she was supposed to.

She reached her hand over to the notebook and turned over to what she had noted as chapter 5 just to prevent Henry from getting further overwhelmed. Yeah I do my own research. I just labelled the stuff by chapters for my own convenience. Like chapter 2 has the important Astronomy formulae noted down. Stuff like Newton's law of gravitation, Kepler's third law, velocity formulae, stuff like that! She concluded beaming. She had done extensive research with physics and astrophysics in particular. She knew how to calculate the brightness of a star with ease as well as other important aspects as well.

Don't worry about the notes I uh.... have a rather.... unique? connection with astronomy research. She said sheepishly. My family has done astronomy research for generations. We have a whole section of our library dedicated to it. We've never had anyone solely dedicated to it tho. Its just been like a type of side hobby my family has done for centuries. She knew that there had been multiple generations of her family that had only ever done Astronomy research in their free time. Their library was vast considering they were the main descendant line as well. She knew her cousins also had astronomy research within their homes but it wasn't to the extent of the main library in her house.
