Finding a loose curl had escaped from her bandana, Logan twirled it around her index finger, tongue poking into her cheek. It’d be best if we made some progress this round and head to the next zone… Maybe leave two people behind to– She had hardly finished her sentence when one blonde girl insisted she stays stationary at base. Restraining her eyes from rolling back into her head, Logan stared off into space. This was not how she had wanted this game to go. Sure, she felt quite guilty now for judging them so quickly, but it wasn’t as if they were disproving her snap judgement of them. Karmic vengeance had a funny sense of comedic timing.

With it quickly settled that the majority of the team would move ahead to cover more ground, so began the awkward trek. They naturally divided into sub-groups, the Castelo students tearing ahead while foreign socialites lay back to quietly mingle. Thales and Naiane seemed to be in their own headspaces, with Thales fixated on his issue with Pretty Boy and Naiane placating him, not saying much. Something to that effect at least – Logan wasn’t listening. Much in the same fashion, her mind had wandered a few steps ahead, trying to picture what kinds of obstacles Peralta might have placed for them. Were there real stakes? Real danger? They would shortly find out, she supposed. In the meantime, she was content to hum a tune stuck in her head like an earworm – some upbeat Nickelodeon shit. Hurricane. Bridgit Mendler. That was it. Content to hit high notes with the elegance of a cat on hot coals, Lo marched with a little spring in her step. She missed her iPod dearly.

It didn’t take long before her mind had abandoned its humble dreams of stardom and lost her place in the song altogether, returning to the holidayers behind them. It would be inconvenient if they truly hated them, given they were ideally meant to win this thing. Logan scowled at the thought of losing over some petty judgemental bullshit and decided to extend an olive branch. She hung back a few steps, tilting her chin casually towards the pretty girl with the striking pearly hair and terrible sandals.

You Beauxbatons or Hogwarts? Hear you all have it made in the shade over in Europe, eh? That true? A waft of over-generously applied cologne hit her in the face and Logan quickly masked her cough with an awkward grin. Perhaps her tone still sounded too snarky, or she just wasn’t getting through, because it wasn’t long before the interaction made her shift awkwardly and excuse herself. Logan grit her teeth and shrugged. No harm, no foul, after all. She tried. It was when she heard a faint murmur – the utterance of the word “barbarian” – that her head snapped back in the direction of the bourgeoisie behind her.

Oi. ¿Cómo me llamaste, blanquito? She took a threatening step forward, vein practically bulging from her neck. With a harsh reminder that they would have to watch out for one another through the games, Logan backpedalled with a scowl. How dare he? She had been told kids like him were raised with good-manners classes or whatever. Muttering and shooting murderous looks at the boy, she spared a pointed look at her classmates. Did they not catch that? Raised as pure of blood as Pretty Boy here, it didn’t seem like they altogether understood her outrage, or at least shared her anger. Furrowing her brow with a kiss of her teeth, she wondered if wizards even knew what racism was. Logan made a mental note to shove past the boy at least twice in the following game – maybe refuse to help him just to make a point that he needed this “barbarian”. She did however quickly offer a smile to the white-haired one; a peace offering as if to let her know her onslaught of glares was not targeted towards her.

It wasn’t long before their change of zones was signalled by an abrupt drop in temperature. The atmosphere was sticky with humidity and Logan could smell rain before the first drop even fell. Salt, damp earth and something metallic sat heavy in the air. Somewhere above, the cicadas had gone quiet. Ah, mierda.Shortly, the jungle was practically flooded, carrying debris and mud down slopes and making it a nightmare to walk. Each step was punctuated with a wet squelch, and a pop as you freed your boots from the sludge. Shorts and vest sticking to her like a second skin, Logan’s expression only darkened as her curls became stringy and undefined. All that product, gone to waste. Who’s idea was it to make it rain on a sunny day like this? A sadist for one – she was almost certain Santiago fit the bill there.

A loose branch about Logan’s height jut out from the undergrowth. Straight grain. Dry enough not to snap. Good. With a sharp tug, she managed to free it from the vines, using it as a makeshift walking stick for balance across the uneven, slippery terrain. It saved her skin numerous times, skidding down slopes and diverting pressure from her ankles when having to jump from great heights. The mud was annoying, but not unfamiliar; she'd learned years ago that fighting the ground only guaranteed you'd end up kissing it. At least the hills back home had the decency to stay where you left them – here it was a melting free-for-all, like the landscape was playing tricks on them. Expertly manoeuvring the plains, she practically charged on, clearing a path for the stragglers of the group.

At first, things seemed to be going excellently. Much to her disbelief, the boy in designer linens appeared to weave between obstacles with the momentum of a local. Shifting weight naturally, finding stable footing before committing his weight. With a slight re-evaluation, she found herself slightly pleased he was on their team. She cleared her throat at the thought, feeling her ears burn from her massive underestimation of the kid. Having to remind herself to be annoyed at him, she quickly diverted her attention to the rest of their team. Stood on standby, Logan naturally hung back to make sure everyone got over the next hurdle safely and offered a steady hand for them to balance with. Somebody always had to stay behind and typically back home that job fell to her. Just as she ensured White-Haired Girl made it down the next steep drop, a strained heave came from behind Logan. Naiane was calf-deep in mud, trying desperately to free herself. Logan frowned, steadying herself in order to find a stable path to go back for her.

A terse comment cut through the air. This pendejo had the gall to instruct them to help her, standing safely six feet away and making no effort to do so himself. Good to know – he was the sort to leave them to rot. Not to mention haughty about it too. He proceeded to state the damn obvious, claiming ‘we can’t just leave her!’ like some Disney character. You don’t say, Logan muttered under her breath to her right, just within earshot of Amaro. Before he could react to her commentary, Pretty Boy’s criticism seemed to hone in on him. Noticing the tension between Thales and this guy, the air seemed to still. A stagnant pause ensued as they glared, their eyes and egos battling one another.

Before things could escalate much further, Logan huffed and snaked between them. With a frustrated wave of her hand, she gestured towards Naiane, sinking deeper into the mud by the millisecond. Please, it’s bad enough there’s two of you – I’d rather you divas didn’t bitch slap each other to death right now.She shot her fellow racer a cheesy grin, Besides, I’ve got Naiane.Extending her wooden staff to the girl, she chuckled as a little anecdote returned to her, Reminds me when las maestras ask for a big strong boy to carry stuff. Bitch, I am a big strong boy. I’ve got you.

They were off rather quickly, the majority deciding there was no time to waste. Jarden could appreciate that; he only wished there were more time to simply explore the arena beforehand. So many new things to see. So little time.

As they got further and further from the group, the rush of water got louder and louder. A faint smile crossed Jarden's face. It wasn't every day you got to see a waterfall. Gorgeous by any and all means. More white and foaming than actual water from what he could see. Nonetheless, the slight mist was appreciated.

The air felt thick as they ventured in further. In fact, Jarden could have sworn it was getting hotter and hotter by the moment. With every careful footfall, there was a wish he had never come out to the game in the first place. There was no place for whining, only further trekking.

"Uh, is it just me, or is it unreasonably hot out here?" Technically not whining, but annoyance had seeped its way into his tone. What had he expected from The Amazon? Still, it felt hotter than back where they had started. Well, what else would be here? Snow piled in the trees and frost on the ground? He chuckled a little at the thought before returning to the game at hand.

Neither of the other girls seemed particularly chatty. But Jarden was content picking his way around the riverbank in silence. It felt familiar, even if in surroundings different from back home. His vision was going blurry, but he quickly realized it was just his glasses fogging. Humidity was certainly nothing to reckon with. A quick wipe off with the hem of his shirt, and they were good as new. For about a minute. What's the use of seeing anyway?

XXXGeneviève was already bored and over the entire sport. But being the kindhearted individual that she was, she would not abandon her team even if it meant that she could go inside... away from the bugs and heat and grossness. The team had split up almost immediately as they needed to find a good place to hide the flag and begin the hunt for the other teams coveted flag. Not wanting to be caught running and working up a sweat for something that wasn't dance, Geneviève had all but insisted on remaining behind to protect the base. It seemed easiest and if the rest of her team was capable enough then she wouldn't have to do anything at all.

Easy, no?

She whined to herself as she aimed a kick at a rock but ended up slipping in the mud. The loud shriek she let out was loud enough to wake the dead as she landed on her back. The squelching sound of surprisingly cold mud was almost as loud as Genie herself and must have acted as a foreshadowing tool if she had been looking at the scene from outside. Her normally luxurious and silken blonde hair was now matted with dirt and actively drying as she sat up with tears welling in her eyes. Yanking her wand out, she turned to the other student that she was supposed to be guarding the flag with.

"I refuse to let this mud stay in my hair. I'm going to find something to wash it out!" She huffed as she stormed off in a direction of somewhere that made no sense. A few minutes later she returned with an embarrassed flush and started walking in the other direction. Muttering to herself, she cast a quick "Scourgify" and started to rake her fingers through the suds in her hair. As the bubbles in her hair sunk down into her eyes, she circled back to the base that she was meant to be protecting.

"I feel so... comment dit-on- disgusting? The word for 'feel ew', yes? This is horrible. AH! J'ai du savon dans l'œil!" Geneviève whined more as the soap fell into her eyes mid complaint. As she continued to lodge complaints, she felt the slight seed of guilt burrowing itself into her heart as she knew that she had promised to be part of the team but all she had done so far was act like a brat and slip in the mud.

When she finally got the mud and soap out of her hair and eyes, Geneviève looked around at the base that they were supposed to be constructing to protect the flag from the other team. It was well constructed and she supposed that the other zones had similar bases for them to hide the flag in if there became a need to move it. She looked around at the Jungle flora, trying to take an interest in the flowers as opposed to a general disdain for the outdoors and the bugs. It was actually quite beautiful and for a girl her age who appreciated the appearance of rare and precious objects, Geneviève wondered if there was more to the appearance of the Zone they were in then meets the eye.

"I apologize for my hysterics. I wasn't much aware of the game. I thought this would be less... muddy." Geneviève tried to salvage her reputation with some lighthearted explanation. However, she was certain there wasn't much she could do that would absolve her of the tantrum she had just thrown about her hair and the fact that her outfit was still covered in mud.

Geneviève made her way to sit on a log as she waited for something interesting to happen that would salvage the game for her mind. As she walked towards the place to sit, the movement of something heavy and sneaky crept up on the both of them. A gargantuan boa-constrictor burst forward from the brush and yet again, Geneviève let out another ear-piercing shriek as she ran for her life.

Joining the group headed towards another area, Sabrina fell into step with her two teamates in a way unlike her: quietly. After all, rattling off was her natural response to most situations. Hanging out with friends? Monologue about anything and everything she finds interesting. Meeting new people? Bury them under an unslaughter of countless questions. Getting in trouble? Overwhelm authority with long sentences coming out in quick succession. Words words words, quick, chipper, flooding out of her in a speed akin to the waterfalls' that now surrounded them.

But this was a very different, unique scenario. Now, carefully weaving through the greenery, silence was expected, if not required, for their succession in the game. And so she kept her mouth shut, or at least until they were halfway through the second area.

One could think that, given the eccesive amount of water all around them, the tempature would drop with each step they took. But of course, one, in this situation noone other than miss Sabrina Lyons herself, would be a fool to assume so as the heat not only got worse by second, but the air thickened as well. Flush beginning to settle over her nose and cheeks, Sabrina groaned, swiveling her head to face one of her companions.

'It is ridiculously hot,' (@Jarden Ardelis) she agreed, now resorting to short sentances not out of necessity to stay hidden, but because the air was coming in short, awfully humid supply. She spend her next few steps silently listing off reasons why it would be a very bad idea to jump into the lake, refusing to even look at it because her ability to remain logical dwindled as her body heat grew.

Rina bounds into action immediately once the start of the game is announced. It's not a whole lot of action, though. She's momentarily bummed by the fact that she's not, like, throwing a smoke bomb into the eyes of the other team, but maybe she needs to get closer to them to do that. Whatever the case, the environment here is really weird. It's hot, but it's a wet hot, which is very little like her native Spain. She sweats and regrets her outfit for a minute. Then she expects her sweat to cool her down. It does not. She doesn't think she can live like this.

Whatever. The others are all chattering about, but Rina only understands bits and pieces. There's that one girl, kind of cheeky if you ask her, who is speaking Spanish, albeit with a different accent than Rina is used to, but it still makes sense. Blanquito white boy makes her smirk even though maybe she should pay attention to the environment – she utters a small ¡ostras! crap! as she stumbles over a rock. She's fine! Totally fine.

She catches a bit of what that weird looking blonde girl – well, one of the weird looking blonde girls – says. Something something, 'ew', something something, 'muddy'. She wants to tell her to grow up, but she's not really sure how to say that in English or French. So she just rolls her eyes and slips her hands into her pockets. These people are crazy.

This foreign jungle didn't even care about her comfort. The heat was heavy, wet, suffocating and completely unyielding. Back home, the weather was predictable.

Not like this place? Carina paused her steps to rethink her choices. She looked up into the branches and leaves of trees that left only little patches of the clean bright sky. Carina crouched low, behind a dense wall of dark green ferns. Everything was wet around her. Knuckles white from holding her wand, she tried to shift her weight. Not this..., when she realised her skirt was about to get ruined, soaked through as she knelt in a black stagnant puddle. She wiped a forehead of sweat from her brow, her chest moving in breaths as she listened to the oppressive hum of the forest.

Carina had taken a short break from school, explored and traveled alone to various locations. She didn't need anyone, except for Hope, and the friends she met along her short journey. Of course, reaching Castelobruxo, she jumped in at a chance to sign up for a Capture the Flag event? She was bored, capturing flags seemed like a brilliant idea. But not as brilliant now. She hasn't realised it was in a jungle, totally lost and not sure of what she would gain at the end of it. My house points? She was used to earning house points for every single thing she had done in Hogwarts. Not plates of turkies? Sandwiches? Carina wondered, giving a small huff, or only experience? She wasn't even sure of what would happen one minute later, let alone after this game.

The water pooling around her ankles suddenly rippled. the reflection of the swaying trees above distorting. She got up, at the moment she stepped into the saturated earth, there was a wet, heavy squelch. Ewwww. She tried shifting her weight and jump away from where she is. Her other boot stepping away from the dark water pool gave away a distinct, sluck. A deep breath, she slammed both boots on a much harder land. Yeah this is it.

She remembered a few of her group members are instructed to go into another part of the jungle. She don't remember names usually but she had been repeatedly reciting the name of this one girl, knowing if anything happens she can call out to her. Sabrina Lyons. Clutching onto her wand, she took a deep breath, yes I'm heading there.

After his attempt at chatting, the game seemed to start soon. His teammates split into two groups, one group went ahead, leaving him and a pretty French girl behind. Her silhouette indicated that she had been trained as a dancer for many years. The knowledge of dancing he knew came from his uncle, who was a kabuki actor. The girl dressed in luxurious clothes. He started to think she and the two Hogwarts students had discussed the dress code before the game.

Hayato realized he was rather rude to not introduce himself until now. “Hey, sorry it’s a bit late to do this. But my name is Hayato Ichiyagi, from Mahou…” He stopped mid-sentence, feeling an unwelcome narrow gaze staring at him. The young Ichiyagi turned around immediately to identify the possible threat. Startled, almost jumping, he quickly retreated to safer ground and away from the anaconda. “この熱帯雨林には、一体何があるというのか。” (What on earth is in this rainforest?) He murmured with a low voice. Fortunately, the anaconda left without hurting any of them.

Sigh. The Japanese boy hadn’t anticipated this event would be this eventful, he initially thought he was just here to hang out with his childhood friend and meet new people. Nonetheless, he should focus on the mission he had been assigned now. As he picked up a stick from the ground, he tried to observe the surroundings. The stick was heavy and firm, enough to poke through the bushes. Luck did not stand on his side this time. He had found nothing useful.

He heard some sounds from his teammate, so he came back to where he was to see what had happened. His obsidian eyes filled with concern, since the forest kept bringing surprises to them. The girl was stuck in the mud, but she managed to get out by herself. Hayato furrowed his brows in worry, and he asked, “Are you alright?” He paused for a moment. “I can totally get your point. This place is so… unexpected.” He chose a nicer word to describe this hazardous environment. “I thought the game would be a more relaxing or light game. But apparently I’m wrong.”

Well, there they were. Zone one had massive trees, a dense atmosphere and a thick scent of.. nature. Though everything felt and smelled kind of moist, like moss and bark after heavy rain on a hot day. It reminded Jun of the woods in Kyoto, which she had often visited as a child. They had frequently been rather moist, damp and humid with little wind circulation. Especially the Arashiyama Bamboo Grove and the cedar woods of Mount Takao resembled this atmosphere greatly. In a way, it made Jun feel right at home. Like she was visiting Japan already, which would be the case once again this Summer.

Part of the Team stayed in Zone 1 for now, while Jun went along with three others. She had kind of caught their names beforehand, but wasn’t particularly familiar with any of them. One of them Jun did recognize as Ravenclaw prefect though.

They moved to make their way into zone two, when a heatwave hit unexpectedly. Then there was a rock. Jun clumsily fell over it, right by the waterfall, and felt her cheeks warm instantly. Great, was there anything more embarrassing than falling over a rock out of sheer stupidity? With people she didn’t even know?
Alas, they had to move on with the game which meant the Ravenclaw had to quickly catch herself and continue. Partaking in a game - in an unpredictable rainforest - this close to full moon, had perhaps not been the best idea. Jun was already starting to feel an upcoming bad mood spreading inside her.

One could have blinked and missed the corners of Naiane's lips twitching slightly after hearing Thales’ quip. A rare display of amusement. “Você não ficou sabendo?1 Her tone low whilst arching her brow. “Vamos vestir nossos ternos para a sessão fotográfica2,” she said dryly before they strategised. Feeling satisfied with what was devised, Naiane bid Hayato a quiet farewell through a firm nod before her departure.

Despite crossing the bridge without issue, she remained vigilant as the forest grew thicker. One misstep could be her undoing. After leaping over a protruding branch, she silently offered thanks to the spirits for their protection. “Mind your step,” she cautioned without eyeing anyone in particular. Although the glamorous pair crossed her mind, she avoided singling them out.

Logan seemed particularly captivated by the angelic Esme. Given her grace, Naiane could not fault her, but she tuned out their exchange when her attention shifted elsewhere. Every now and then, she snuck glances at the quieter girl in case she required support. The pause between each grew longer until her concern dissipated.

After diverting her gaze, Naiane began monitoring the greenery for any movement. Her hand reached out to grasp a fluttering leaf that obstructed her view. Whilst tilting her head confusedly, she stared at the leaf. It was destined to die the moment it fell, so why am I–

The distant snap of the twig suddenly interrupted her thoughts and reminded her to press on. Leaf in hand, Naiane advanced several paces forward until she was on her allies’ tail once more. It was pleasant to see the foreign students maintaining a steady pace. For a moment, Naiane began to consider that wealthy folk were not so insufferable – until a vile word reached her ears.

“Bₐᵣbₐᵣᵢₐₙₛ.

What. Her muscles tensed. Perhaps she registered it incorrectly; sound was easily distorted by dense undergrowth in this copse. Disbelieving eyes flickered to the boy and the sight of Logan flying into a rage was enough to confirm her fears.

aaaaaaOh.
aaaaaaaaaaBarbarians.

So that’s how it was.

Naiane sighed, running her fingers through her hair as her eyes dulled. She should have known; preachers of purity often possessed the filthiest mouths. That’s how it’s always been with this insufferable sort of blue-blooded vermin. Burning bile crept up her throat. Abhorrent remarks akin to this had become commonplace over the years, yet such familiarity did not quell her rage. It ignited it.

“Que nojento,” Naiane quietly sneered with distaste on her fine features. Cold fingers curled, crumpling the leaf. She had half the mind to scrub his mouth with the Scouring Charm. A merciful fate for a spoiled brat came to their school and indulged in its hospitality. Yet here he was, poisoning the rainforest (and Logan) with a cloying scent of jasmine while insinuating they were uncivilised. The audacity made her lips twist. If no one held Naiane back, she was truly prepared to darken his daylights.

Yet before she could entertain the thought, the air shifted and the sky suddenly wept. Its pelting tears flooded at her feet, softening the soil into a sinking sludge. Fresh mud stubbornly clung to her boots, as though it sought to restrain her for trying to sully her hands. A forlorn attempt to extricate herself simply elicited a deep sigh from her lips. Divine intervention was a bitch and judging by the ferocious downpour; the spirits held similar sentiments about her.

Naiane stood tall despite being bound by the mire and shielded her eyes. A quick scan of her surroundings revealed that everyone had easily traversed the treacherous terrain – save for her. A minor casualty, one of her own making really. Perhaps she could have dealt with her predicament sooner if she were not blinded by rage. Alas, there was no use in dwelling on that now.

Once the anger subsided, Naiane returned to her usual state; rational and practical. Whether it was sheer luck or pure skill, the manner in which the boy handled himself commanded some respect. Evidently, he was a crucial piece on the board. One they could not afford to lose, even if his next remark nearly made her grimace. If it were laced with a sliver of sincerity, it slipped past her entirely.

Following his line of sight then clarified who he was provoking by slipping on a mask of virtue. Any chance of Naiane mulling over whether she judged him prematurely quickly dissipated when she heard what he uttered. Despite acknowledging his potential, her guard was up. She would rather risk falling prey to whatever lurked within the rainforest than to his silver tongue.

Naiane fell silent for a moment and ran through the potential outcomes. Her assessment of the situation revealed the risk of her saviour slipping into the muck with her. Time was of the essence. That would be a devastating setback that they could not afford.

“Don’t,” she said firmly and motioned for them to stay back in a refusal to gamble on their odds once more. “I’ll be fine. Just stick to the strategy,” she urged. The implications were clear; abandon the weak links. Even if that meant her.

But despite that, Logan stubbornly came to offer assistance. “Logan…” Her brows furrowed. A mix of gratitude and concern left her feeling vexed. Few were as capable as her fellow racer, but the endeavour was still perilous. Still, that bright grin softened her gaze slightly and the warmth of her anecdote melted a thin layer of her icy exterior.

“Valeu3,” Naiane said softly, grasping the wooden staff before meeting her gaze. “Obviously. You’re the strongest of them all.”

Thales was happy to finally get out there and get moving; the jungle thickened, crooked trees weaving a sharp canopy above them. He didn’t speak much, though he snickered at Logan’s retort towards the pretty boy: serves him right, really. He stuck his tongue out at Bug Boy briefly. Mostly, Thales remained focused on keeping look out: he intended to win this game, dumb Europeans in tow or not. His neck was all but snapping around at the sound of any cracked twig — trying to spot any of the Ocelot team perhaps making a run through the thick trees.

He did not achieve much that way, considering the one eventful thing from the new zone they found themselves in came from above. Thales barely paid attention to the sudden quiet of the forest before it was replaced with the white noise of rain pouring down on them. He made quick work of it, obviously. His shoes weren’t this damn expensive for nothing, and he wasn’t about to let a little water get in the way of a game well-spent — that is, of course, won.

Thales paid no mind to the mud sticking to the fabric of his cargo pants, and only turned to jeer at his classmates when his attention was called to Naiane. It seemed despite her local status, she did not have the same luck he did, and was — glued? mudded? — stuck to the ground. Thales had a joke on his mind already, upper lip curling to snicker, when Bug Boy, of all people, tried to taunt him.

...or are those muscles only for show?

Thales’ brow furrowed and he stared for a long moment. What the fuck was this guy’s problem? Did he think fabulously coiffed hair and a pretty outfit gave him the right to speak to Thales — Thales fucking Amaro — of all people like that. Thales’ eyes narrowed and he took a step forward, tilting his head with the usual smile, though this time a far more mocking tone to his voice. “Yeah? Você quer ver para que servem, seu—”

He was cut off by Logan, ever helpful and ever annoying, calling him a diva and beating him to the punch. Right. Naiane was still stuck. He watched Logan reach for her hand impassively, deciding to ostentatiously ignore that he had ever let Bug Boy get under his skin — and hoping everyone else would ignore the barely there red under his collar as he crossed his arms and gave a half-assed chuckle at Logan’s words.
