Alan should have expected that this question would follow, he really should have known that him owning a broom but not flying it even once would bring up some questions and he could hit his head for messing up this conversation already. "I d-didn't r-really like flying a-at all, it s-sounded t-too dangerous and u-uh s-scary," he muttered awkwardly, taking in a shaky breath as he glanced at the other kid, hoping that he would not face judgement for this. He did not explicitly say that he was scared of it, but it was not so difficult to put one and one together at this point. But he was also reassured by the fact that Neculai was speaking with such encouraging words. He was a little confused by the way he spoke about him being at the begin of his Hogwarts career, but he would not be suspicious enough to question it further than thinking of it as odd.

The way he spoke about flying made him freeze, as his mind followed the words on a small journey. Waves of excitement washed over him and he could only imagine how it must feel like for the other kid. He got even curious about experiencing this for himself and nodded slowly. He noticed the gaps between the other kids teeth and grinned lightly back at him. He must have been unlucky to lose so many milk teeth at the same time to leave such gaps in his teeth and at such a late age too; perhaps a late bloomer? "Th-That sounds r-really e-exciting!" he had to admit lastly, as he glanced at the other students broom, it appeared to be well kept and in a much better shape.

The second year his expression changed from what had first been a quizzing look to one of unbelieve. “Y-You…” Neculai was baffled and had to try a second time to form the sentence as his mind couldn’t comprehend what he was hearing. “You don’t like flying… And think its dangerous… But you are practicing to fly, which I assume you do as you are on the Training Pitch, but yet without any protective gear?” The Dhampir’s blood red eyes carefully took in the visage of the tall first year. This Gryffindor was at first an unwritten page to him, but somehow the boy had managed to become a riddle. The more the Ravenclaw pulled at the thread to unravel it, the more difficult it proved. Yet, Neculai didn’t give up, he wouldn’t been sorted in Ravenclaw if he didn’t love solving riddles. “Were you aware that when you participated in the Scavenger Hunt the price was a broom?” The expression on the Dhampir’s pale face softened as he spoke the words.

“Oh yes! Flying is quite exciting!” The Ravenclaw boy was uphorious when he spoke about it. “Would you be willing to try it? As fun as it is to watch someone else fly or hear about someone else talking about it... It just isn't quite the same, you'll never be able to fully understand what it is until you're on that broom of yours! But maybe not right away…" The Seeker looked hopefull at Alan. The right gloved hand that was holding his own broom started to loosen its grip around the shaft and dropped it in the soft grass. “You mentioned that the broom isn’t listening to you… Maybe we could start with some basic training to see where you’re at exactly?”

"P-Protective g-gear?", he wondered out loud in confusion as he let his gaze wander over the other kid who was clad in his Quidditch gear. At least Alan had always assumed that those were just for the game itself as he usually never saw the normal students use them. But Neculai was right, they must make flying safer at least. Hearing him voice out what he was trying to do however made him feel a bit at a loss for word because in the way the Ravenclaw said it, it really did sound like Alan was doing something unbelievable and ridiculous but the other kid also did not know his reasoning!

When Neculai asked about the scavenger hunt the third year was finally able to find a suitable response, which made his eyes light up slightly as he shook his head vigorously. "I d-did n-not!", he would explain quickly in a few words. "I h-had no idea wh-what to e-expect at all; i-it seemed l-like a 'jackpot' a-anyway," he explained as he stressed the word jackpot with a hint of sarcasm in his voice. Perhaps because it was everything but a jackpot to him to get a broom. But maybe because of how dangerous the broom was to actually use it.

"I w-would love t-to learn a b-bit a-about it," he admitted and did a mental jump at the thought of having found a mentor. This brought him one step closer to making true of his promise to learn flying without the help of that horrid flying professor.

The Gryffindor boy was studying Neculai. Neculai was at a loss with the first year in front of him. “Well… You mentioned that flying is dangerous. So I would assume that you would then want to have at least some protection for when things would go sideways?” The second year was at a loss here. Maybe he just didn't make any friends yet and hadn't asked if they had some protection. He was a shy boy after all... Maybe he didn't have the guts to ask the Flying Professor for some protection. Neculai shook his head.

The Ravenclaw bursted out in laughter. “Sorry!” He couldn’t help himself. “Y-you must’ve been really glad when you saw what the prize was huh?” The second year tried to retain his seriousness. “Either way you must have been really good at the Scavenger Hunt to win it!” The Dhampir boy took in the sight of the small Lion. “You even managed to beat the older kids! I haven’t come across many first years who could do that!” No matter the odness that Alan had around him he must be really good in sport stuff. Neculai admired that about people. This boy was riddle wrapped around a mystery.

When the first year said he wanted to learn some stuff the Seeker in Neculai started to have tons of ideas in his head already. “Awesome!” Neculai jubbled. “Okay, first let us try a simple thing like having the broom go into your hand huh?” The quidditch player positioned himself right next to his broom that was laying in the grass. Holding out his right hand over the broom shaft he said. “Up!” The words had but left his mouth and the broom had already reacted. The wooden shaft clapped in the palm of his hand as his gloved fingers closed around it. Scarlet eyes looked back to Alan. “It’s quite easy. The trick is to sound really confident. You are the master of the broom and it has to obey you. Not the other way around.” He nodded at Alan. “Now you try it.”

Again the words of the other students made a lot of sense to the third year so he nodded slowly. Protective gear would certainly be good for flying so he would have to make sure to get himself some of that in case he would give flying another try; perhaps in the future or something.

The laughter of the Ravenclaw was slightly contagious and made him grin slightly, showing a row of white teeth. "It t-truly w-was funny, out o-of all th-things it just h-had t-to be a broom!", he agreed and shook his head in slight amusement as he thought back to the moment. "W-Well there were m-multiple th-things to win s-so many st-students won, actually," he explained with a light shrug accompanied by a chuckle. However there was something about the other's next words that made his movement slow down as he frowned at the other kid with a slight tilt of his head. "I was a-actually one of th-the older k-kids," he corrected with a bit of pride in his voice. He had been one of the few second years that day and most were in their first year.

He did not spend too much thought on it as his mind was quickly directed towards the next topic with Neculai asking him whether he would like to move on to something more practical. "S-Sounds good," he mumbled and watched how the eagle summoned his broom to fly up into his hand with what seemed no effort at all. "Oh w-wow, you a-are good at th-this!", he exclaimed and stared at the student in awe before he shook his head to get rid off the distraction and focus on his own broom that still laid on the ground. He placed his right hand over the handle and commanded it to go up, but the worry of failing again and now in front of the other kid had been too much pressure; the broom barely moved as it stayed motionless on the grass. The third year huffed in slight frustration as he held the hand above the broom with what seemed determination to proof himself to the other student. "U-Up!" and with that the broom flew up into his hand. The third year quickly caught it before it slammed against his knuckles and stared at his own hand in disbelief. "I... I did it-" he whispered and stared at Neculai in wonder. Did he see?

“Glad a lot of people won something that day! Hopefully everyone got something as worthwhile!” The Dhampir nodded in the direction of Alan’s broom. Confusion took root inside of Neculai as the Gryffindor in front of him told him he was one of the older kids who participated in the Scavenger Hunt. “U-uh… Well, sorry I-I didn’t know that…” Was all he could bring out. “Maybe he’s just doing his year over… Maybe he failed Flying so badly that they made him redo it?” Whatever it was, the remark had honestly thrown Neculai off track. A few seconds later the Ravenclaw shook his head and focused once again on the conversation.

What followed next made Neculai smile. The boy had been able to summon his broom towards his hands. Scarlet eyes saw how the kid in front of him looked in disbelief from his hand towards Neculai. “Of course you did it! You were amazing! You just had to believe in yourself!”

The Quidditch player within Neculai was ecstatic that he had learned someone the basics of flying. Making him even drift off in his thoughts if a career as a Flying professor might be something for him. With that in mind the second year suddenly remembered what he came to do in the first place. “Now remember, Alan. Just remember to be confident! You are the master of the broom and not the other way around, if you keep that in mind the next few steps will be easy peasy!” The pale boy winked as he said the last part. “If you wouldn’t mind excusing me, if I want to have some practice before classes start, I’d better get to it. But, I’m sure we’ll see each other around.” With that the Ravenclaw gripped his broom once more and went his way to start his practice.

"Th-That's fine, d-don't worry!", he would let him know when he apologized. Alan would give him a small smile before he let it grow into as a grin as he would stare at the broom in his hands. He still could hardly believe that he had managed to do this! This felt amazing, that he actually did this on his own. He had only managed to do that very few times before when he had actually mandatory lessons of flying in his first year but after that he never needed this skill since flying was no longer necessary or of interest to him.

"Y-You're right, i-it seemed so e-easy th-this time, th-thank you for y-your help Neculai!", he exclaimed as he would drop his hand that was holding the broom outstretched to his side. After all he was not planning to ride this broom anytime soon, not after he had heard those words from the Ravenclaw.

Hearing the instructions the third year would nod confidently, listening to the spoken words intently as to not miss or forget them which could easily happen with that mind of his. "G-Good luck w-with your p-practice! I w-will surely see you a-around," he agreed and really hoped for that to be the case. The other kid seemed to be incredibly nice and Alan would love to befriend him. After saying his goodbyes Alan would wave to the kid before he would leave the pitch and head for the castle. He would not want to disturb the student's training and so he decided it was time to take a shower and head to breakfast.
