She listened as Amethyst began to re-explain what to do. She was following a bit. Untill she began to speed up the explaination. Fawkes was about to stop her when the girl probably realised she wasn't being understood.
She watched her move slightly back to show her the movement. Left foot forward, right to the side. Then the left was brought back next to the right. Then repeat the same thing over. She watched carefully, mentally trying it out herself. Now that she could see it visually it wasn't actually that hard.
She looked up at Amethyst again. Y-yeah! I'll give it a try. She looked down at her feet before begining to mimic the movement. Left foot forward, then the right foot to the side. After that the left brought next to the right and repeat. She did it a few times before looking up once more. Is it like this? She asked doing the movements again. It felt right.
She waited for confirmation about if she was right or not before she continued to try it out. Maybe she wasn't doing it right? Hopefully she was. She didn't want to let the older girl down.

She was nervous still; her expressions and small movements gave it away, but she had gained more confidence from when she had entered the rehearsal room. "YES!" Amethyst cheered. The steps were practically correct, although still missing the grace and the very much needed hop. "You have been doing fine, Fawkes! The steps are correct. We just need to add a little bit of this and that," she said enthusiastically. It was perhaps the first time Amethyst used her name. Consciously. And it rang a bell. Fawkes. Fawkes Chaos. Ravenclaw. This is the property of Fawkes Chaos, Ravenclaw student. If found, please return it to the Ravenclaw common room. It was loud and clear. The Capricorn map she had pocketed two days ago belonged to the girl in front of her. But did she want to return it? |

No. Not yet. Probably never. Amethyst adored the map, now used as a decoration for her room, every other hour possible. It was now one of the biggest reasons she kept returning to her dorm all the time. It was mesmerising. But if she did not inform Fawkes about it, it would eat at her conscience. Amethyst had never had something denied to her. Castillos got what they wanted with money, with power and sometimes with force. Galleons were never a problem. She had more than enough. She just had to convince her to sell them. Amethyst was stubborn about keeping it and was keen on keeping it, no matter what. "So," she started out, a little nervously, although the nerves were quickly covered up by a fake cough. "I found a Capricorn map stuck in some armour," the heiress sighed. "Third floor," she continued. "It was pretty, and it had your name written on it; I just remembered." She was glad. She truly didn't want to annoy the girl by having her repeat the steps for her again. She still did them a couple more times now enjoying doing it. It was fun and entertaining. Was she actually enjoying waltz?
No never. To her it was still an old people's dance. Hating waltz seemed to run in her family considering her cousin had the same opinions about the dance albeit for a different reason. He didn't like it cause of the expectations set for conversation during those dances. She couldn't blame him honestly. Socializing was taxing. Especially when waltzing.
Oh.... Amethyst had used her name for the first time. Her eyes lit up with joy. Adding a little bit of this and that shouldn't be that hard right? She was visibly less nervous and more comfortable around her now. Truly thank you for taking the time to teach me Amy!
The nickname slipped out just like that. As if it had been on the tip of her tongue for a while now but she had just been waiting to say it. She paused hoping she hadn't offended the girl by using the nickname. It fit her well however. The nickname Amy. It slid off the tongue quite nicely.
She knew the nickname had French origins. With part of her family being French she inevitable learnt the language. It meant dearly beloved. Maybe it slid off so well because that's how she felt about her. Not in a romantic way but rather as a sister. An older sister. It was a similar feeling she felt with her older cousin Charmeine. That older sister vibe, the way she helped her so caringly. It just felt... right to call her Amy.
Amethyst brought up the topic of a star map. A star map? Why suddenly bring that up now? Ah right. She had left a few around the place a few days back. Truth be told with all her experiments she had severely lost track of them. It was tiring to conduct but she was well determined to see it through. Her curiosity needed to be satiated some way or the other after all.
Ah you found one of my maps? She replied. Amethyst had found Capricornus. Fawkes' zodiac sign and frankly her favourite one to draw. She had the star positions of the constellation memorised to perfection to the point she could do it in her sleep. Not only the constellation but also it's surrounding stars as well. It was engrained into her mind like how words were engraved in wood or stone.
I don't sell my maps. She responded quietly. However you're free to keep it if you'd like! I have plenty and can make more! Her response towards the end was a bit quick. She wasn't expecting the compliment about her maps. She knew they were pretty, yes. She tried her best to insure they were stunning to look at. But still. Hearing someone else say it was still embarrassing to hear.

Rarely did anyone associate a nickname with her. Fawkes peculiarly reminded her of her cousin Evangeline. The younger girl now sounded more joyful and less tense. Amethyst had no idea how she managed to put the Ravenclaw at ease. Her presence no longer drained Amethyst, much to her surprise. Amethyst wanting to teach was no longer an obligation of promise; rather, it was now her will. "To add more nuance to your form never hurts," she replied to Fawkes in agreement, nodding her head. Amethyst then expanded on her previous sentence, "Dance is art, and art is personal." She sighed, sitting down on the floor, legs crossed, and continued, "Never forget to add your own quirks to your art." The Slytherin patted the space beside her gently, motioning the other girl to take a seat there. |

Her grey eyes darted through space, lingering on the portraits; some of them seemingly covered in their curtains again, but Amethyst found it hard to trust that they were not listening in to the two's conversation. Not that she bothered. The nickname still lingered in between them, heavily so. "A nickname isn't so bad, is it?" she giggled, a dimple forming on her left cheek. The giggle wasn't intentional; it escaped without her permission. But Fawkes not minding Amethyst taking her map was what shocked the older girl. One of my maps. There were more out there? That piqued Amethyst's, now better known as Amy's, curiosity. "You had put more of them out there?" she asked. "Why?" footnotes. |

It was true. Even when it came to drawing star maps, the way she drew the stars was different than how most people did it. It was her own unique way of saying that the maps were indeed hers without actually adding her name on it.
She took a seat beside Amy when she was offered a seat. She fiddled with her fingers wondering what they could speak about now. She didn't know how to start up another conversation with the older girl really.
Her head looked up when the topic of the nicknames were brought up. There were few people she currently knew whom she had given nicknames to. Her brothers, her cousins, and now? Amethyst. Amy. Well Ame would make more sense honestly, it was just the first syllable of her name. But she liked the way Amy sounded more than she did the way Ame did.
Oh dear her experiment had been brought up- I uh... I was running an experiment to see how many people would return my maps.... So I just hid a bunch of them. Don't remember how many I got back tho. Honestly some of them may still be out I didn't collect the leftover ones.
The experiments truly were a pain to carry out but it did satiate her curiosity temporarily. I have other constellation maps as well... If you'd like to have them I'm more than happy to give you some!

Amethyst wondered with what intention the experiment was carried out. What purpose did it serve? What were the end results? What was it to show about Hogwarts? Amethyst could feel her mind whirling with countless questions. To her, this experiment made no sense, but Fawkes must have thought it out. She was unknowingly a subject of the experiment too. "So," Amethyst began, "What were your observations?" The Slytherin needed to be careful while asking questions, her curiosity often cost her friends, and she needed to make amends. When curious, her selection of words was substandard. |

She thought of her small circle of childhood friends, most of them she did not interact with any longer despite proximity. After she fought with some of them, she had decided ignoring everyone was the best. She did not want to hurt anyone further. Amethyst missed them. A fact she would never admit consciously. Her thoughts wandered back to her questions. "Was it worth it?", she asked, almost biting her tongue in process. Amethyst felt the metallic taste of blood flooding her mouth and her face contorted in aversion. Was the question idiotic? She could only wonder, but hopefully, the question carried only curiosity and not rudeness, which would have been unintended. footnotes. it was hard to stretch this out lol |
