What's more dangerous than a boy with free time?
It was Saturday morning, some days before the end of the Winter season. The cold still pierced to the bone of anyone who wasn't prepared enough, which wasn't the case for this Ravenclaw boy. In his warm jacket, Zach was wandering around the castle with his enchanted backpack on his shoulder. He didn't go to the Hospital Wing that day, but he had another plan to do, to deepen his knowledge of healing magic.
His backpack was filled with various things: bandages, gauze, iodine solution, scissors, and some healing potions he had prepared beforehand. He also got his notes and a book he bought before school started.
If anyone was wondering the correlation between his stroll and the goal he had today, the answer was that he wanted to see if he could have a hands-on experience outside the Hospital Wing. This thought resulted from when his uncle told him about the work of a paramedic during his last holiday. Zach immediately thought that it was a cool thing. Helping others in an emergency setting in the first place, he imagined himself in that position every day and planned to try it in school.
But that day was nothing as he expected. He saw no one in need of his help. Feeling tired, Zach chose to take a short break under the nearby tree. He put his back on the ground. His hand grabbed a stick and scribbled random things.

What's more dangerous than a girl with a wild imagination? Despite it still being winter and this Saturday morning being particularly cold, Novalie had found her way outside - as she did most of the time. The castle had no shortage of fun and adventures, but nothing could really rival the thrill of running through the snow, scraping her hands against ice and bark, and filling her lungs with the scent of nature. If she could have, she would've slept outside every night. After frolicking around like a puppy seeing snow for the first time in its life, the Ravenclaw eventually decided to take a break. With practiced ease, she climbed onto a nearby tree and settled comfortably on one of its lower branches before taking her pet spider out from beneath her oversized winter jacket and into the palm of her hand. It was truly baffling how much little Caviar had already grown. Tilting her head, she wondered whether calling him little was even appropriate anymore, since his body alone was already as large as her entire hand and with his legs stretched out, he looked even bigger. The Metamorph gently stroked the spider's soft black fur, noticing just how motionless he had suddenly become. “You always act like you're paralysed whenever we're outside in winter...”, she murmured with a smirk, lightly pulling on his legs as though he were toy. A strange little fellow, wasn't he? Just this morning, he'd been gleefully launching himself from one face to another at breakfast, causing a chorus of screams and now here he was pretending to be the picture of calm. Well... maybe spiders couldn't move much in these temperatures. Novalie was fairly sure she'd read something about that someday... Her thoughts were interrupted by the sound of approaching footsteps. Just as she got Caviar back into the warmth of her jacket, her gaze drifted downward and landed on a familiar figure. Sinister black hair, corpse-like pale skin, an aura of absolute devastation and world domination. Without a moment's hesitation, she let herself drop upside down from the branch, snow tumbled from the tree with the sudden movement and within the blink of an eye, she found herself hanging face-to-face with Zach! “How did you know I was here?”, she asked, flashing him the brightest grin ever, fully convinced he'd of course used his demonic powers to track her down, for whatever reason. The branch her legs clung to hung low enough that the tips of her vivid red hair scarcely brushed against the snow below, creating a striking contrast of colour against the endless white of their surroundings. Her eyes quickly shifted to the notebook in his hands. “What are you writing?”, she asked, her curiosity instantly piqued, “Something mysterious? Forbidden rituals? Can you read it to me?” |
