I wasn’t supposed to be here; not really anyway.
The castle felt different after the ball, much emptier, like everything loud and bright had been drained out, leaving only a comfortable silence.
I wasn't going anywhere in particular, I just didn't feel like going to my dorm yet; my late night walks seeming like a better choice.
Walking was easier than thinking, but except I was thinking.
Memories came back from tonight, like my mind was puzzlign them together in unbreakable chains so that I never forget. Meeting a stranger and staying with them the whole night wasn't my initial intention, but this Salim seemed interesting
I exhaled slowly.
I don’t usually replay things unless they matter, it was probably a one time thing anyway. I cut the thought off.
My fingers brushed lightly against my sleeve as I turned a corner.
That's when I heard a sound.
I stopped and listened, looking around to see where the source came from.
he corridor opened slightly ahead, leading toward one of the side rooms near the ballroom. A door was half open but I didn’t step in; I moved closer, just enough to look through the gap.
I noticed a Gryffindor girl I've met previously at the Hog's Head, Olivia.
I didn’t react, just observed. She was dancing with a familiar boy, crying her eyes out- they seemed sore and tired, with a hint of desperation.
She was with a slytherin, older, I remember him from the Common Room- Colin. His hand placement was off. His timing worse.
Now I don't know what all the sobbing is about, but it's not my problem- they were dancing wrong, and that was already a monumental impact.
I watched them turn. Two. Three. My expression flattened slightly.
I leaned lightly against the doorframe, still unseen, and let my eyes track their movement more precisely now. The spacing. The lead. The response.
Wrong. They danced completely wrongly.
He spun her again, way too fast.
My jaw tightened just slightly. I could leave. It was not my place to step in
I straightened.
Right, but I couldn't let them do this mistakes in the future?
I faught the urge and just stood still against the doorframe, resting my head as i crossed my arm; I really was exhausted.
Then a few words flew up my way, from the Colin boy, "One thing is true, Liv: wolves have to stick together. Ye're me sister, and I'm yer brother. That means we're stuck with each other!"
Wolf? Olivia was a werewolf? And so was Colin? I was supposed to be surprised but I don't know why I wasn't- "specialness" wasn't what was missing in this school but I couldn't helo to listen further, "Unless ye do something daft like go off and join some mob of dark wolves. Then, I'd still love ye, but I'd have to fight ye too!"
So there are other sorts of wolf packs? How did I not notice this before?
I pushed the door open fully, leaning on the doorframe, Good evening" I interrupted

Interacting with: @Colin McCoire & @Tes Cadell SurnameIt was almost incomprehensible how a quick and silly visit to the Rehersal room had led to such a big emotional rollercoaster. One second they had been dancing, the next Olivia had been screaming at Colin and then she had broken down. But now they were sitting there and Colin said as if it were a given that he wouldn't leave her. Wolves have to stick together.
"Unless ye do something daft like go off and join some mob of dark wolves. Then, I'd still love ye, but I'd have to fight ye too!"
Olivia actually laughed at Colin's words. A real laugh. "I promise you Colin, I won't give you any reason to start fighting me because if that happened I would probably lose," she said, thinking about her very poor spellcasting. She really needed to work on her defensive magic.
When Olivia told Colin to promise not to talk too much about Emi, Olivia could even see how he was on the verge of bursting into a fantastic story about his amazing Emi. Olivia rolled her eyes. Then Colin did something she didn't expect, he reached out and scratched her behind the ear. Olivia was almost paralyzed, she had never experienced that before but it turned out to be incredibly nice.
"Colin, you can't tell anyone how nice I think that is," she told him and pointed at him.
Then Colin grinned. Oh no. That grin wasn't a good sign when it came to Colin McCoire. Olivia almost knew what was coming.
He started talking about Olivia being single and that they could probably work on that. He listed names of guys but still ended by saying that as long as she was herself she would soon have a date with guys.
"Yeah, because being herself has worked out great so far," Olivia muttered quietly so Colin didn't hear.
But when she thought about his question: "Is there some lad ye fancy?" a certain person popped into Olivia's head even though she tried to resist it.
His brown eyes, bright blue eyes and smile pressed into Olivia's consciousness. Their rather chaotic study session. How he had hugged her on the bridge after she told him her secret. And how they had met at the ball. And when he had given her his broom and somehow convinced Olivia to take a flight with him.
But no. First of all, they were just friends, secondly, they were too different and thirdly, Mikey Forville already had a girlfriend. Avery Gray. And it was obvious that they were a good match. Avery was very popular, and beautiful and they both played Quidditch for their respective house teams.
Despite everything Colin had said in the last few minutes, Olivia couldn't believe that she was really beautiful. Besides, Olivia wasn't popular and she could barely fly on a broom. It was no wonder she didn't stand a chance against most of the girls in school.
But Olivia's thoughts were abruptly interrupted when she heard the door open and a voice say: "Good evening."
Olivia practically flew up from the floor and turned to see who had entered the room.
It was none other than Tes Cadell.
“Oh, hi Tes, how nice to see you,” Olivia said, trying to act as if everything was normal. “Colin and I were just talking about, um… the ball! Yes, we were talking about the ball! It was pretty chaotic, wasn’t it.” Olivia forced a smile and a little laugh. “Did you have a nice ball despite everything that happened?” Olivia then asked as she reached out and pulled Colin up from the floor. She sincerely hoped Tes hadn’t heard what they were talking about.Word count: 616

I didn’t miss the way she moved. People only moved like that when they had something to hide and she clearly did.
My gaze lingered on her for half a second longer than necessary before shifting to Colin, then back to her. Assessing. Replaying the last few seconds I’d walked in on. Crying. Laughter. Hugging. The whole lot.
Now this.
I stepped further into the room, the door falling shut behind me with a soft click that sounded louder than it should have.
“Chaotic” I repeated talking about their previous dance moves
My eyes flicked to where they had been standing, “To an extent.”
Olivia was trying.
Olivia asked how my ball went, the memory came rushing in again. The way everything had seemed louder when he was there and quieter when he wasn’t. The way he’d spoken like everything was worth it.
I inhaled softly, almost imperceptibly, and pulled myself back.
I tilted my head slightly, “The ball was…” I paused, choosing the word carefully, “…surprising.”
I crossed my arm and leaned into a pillar of the room, “I didn't expect to go with anybody but I met someone from another school, well you probably don't know him but you might have seen him.”
Another pause settled
Then, because I knew she wouldn’t leave it there, and because part of me didn’t want to either, I added, more directly, “His name is Salim.” a small pause, "Wolde" I repeated his name in my head, almost testing it but not really informing Olivia
My gaze didn’t leave hers now.
My arms folded loosely now, “And you?” I continued, shifting the focus back with quiet precision. “Aside from ‘chaotic,’ what exactly did you get from the ball?”
