@Lamik Fillestar
Holding someone’s hand shouldn’t have felt this awkward. She held people’s hands before. She held both her mother and father’s hand when she was younger and prone to running off. She didn’t do that as much these days, but now that she was away from her parents, she probably shouldn’t have expected to do it again. She held Jake’s hand before when he was too scared to walk by himself to the library. In hindsight, she hadn’t held hands with too many people before. It just wasn’t necessary, and she didn’t expect people to need their hands held for whatever reason they had. Jake was an exception for obvious reasons. But she didn’t have any real reason this time.

It might have seemed obvious why she was doing it. She was offering a service. The club’s purpose was to make their clients enjoy themselves, whether it was for a nice cup of tea, or to have someone utter sweet nothings to their clients in the hopes that it’ll flatter them in some way. At least that was what she had witnessed with some of the club members who had interacted with the students stumbling upon the club. Shen was especially jarring to watch, with his fluency in flowery speech, and even some of the other people she knew were surprisingly good at it too.

She tried to offer Lamik an option. He didn’t have to go along with the romance idea. He could have had a normal conversation with her over tea if that was what he wanted. He could have left if he really wanted to. She hadn’t even suggested it herself that this should be an actual date, or whatever it was. She mentioned it by passing, but she didn’t think he’d actually take it. But he did it anyway.

It felt weird holding his hand. How would anyone else have felt if she held their hand? They probably would have swatted it off and told her to bugger off. Personal boundaries were a thing, after all. She half-expected Lamik to do the same too, but he didn’t, which meant that her hand was going to be wrapped around his for longer.

The awkward part was that she actually liked it. She didn’t think it’d feel this nice to hold someone’s hand, much less his, but she liked feeling his warmth. It was comforting, like resting near a fireplace. That in itself was surreal. If it weren’t for the current circumstances, she wouldn’t have thought about doing it in the first place. She probably would have never done it. That wasn’t what friends did, right?

She wondered what he thought. How did he feel? Did he like having his hand held? Most importantly, why did he agree to this entire arrangement in the first place? She knew he didn’t come here knowingly. He was lost, and even confused about the entire thing. But after her brief explanation, he seemed to want to go all in. What did he want from this? Why romance of all things? It wasn’t like they were a thing, so why bother going through something that was ultimately artificial? She supposed she would have to ask him later.

"There’s some tea and food on the tables if you’d like.” She gestured with her free hand. “Or if you don’t feel like it, we can just find somewhere to sit and talk. It's your choice." She squeezed his hand, smiling brightly as she turned to face him.

Lamik couldn't believe what was happening. If he knew that getting Saskia to hold his hand was going to be as easy as just walking into a strange room and waiting for "the romance" to come up, he would have done it ages ago. Why? Well, it was just as clear to him as it was to everyone reading this narration of his life. He liked her. A lot. Enough to let her just drag him through the classroom by the hand without actually informing him of where they were going. Enough to shut his usual loud and somewhat obnoxiously humorous self up.

If she had decided to look at his face when she turned around, Saskia would probably notice 2 things. The first would be something that very rarely ever happened to Lamik. He was blushing. It wasn't a full-on red-like-a-tomato blush, but it was definitely there, and definitely visible. The second would be his smile. Lamik Fillestar was a boy who smiled a lot. Usually, these grins would be one of two things: either very warm and caring or somewhat mischievous and humorous. This one was different though- it was a large, almost stupid looking grin that radiated childish glee and excitement. "Tea is good." He confirmed softly. "And hand..." Lamiks voice raised a tiny bit. "Hand is also very good."

Saskia was slowly starting to realize what she really got herself into. She already knew she agreed to what amounted tosome kind of romantic outing, which by itself was a pretty stupid move on its own in hindsight, but it was now that she knew that she'd have to do more than take Lamik's hand to make this remotely 'romantic'.

Not surprisingly, Saskia had never been on an actual date herself. The only times she heard about the concept of a date were either in some of the books that she read or from people who were much older than her. Even then, it was unclear what they were really supposed to do. She knew that sometimes, people in dates kissed each other, but that was gross and she didn't want to do that anytime soon. Thankfully, that was something that didn't happen in all dates, and even if they were, this wasn't even an official date. But as far as she knew, people on dates were supposed to do romantic things until the date was over. She still couldn't imagine how people did that kind of thing. Even holding Lamik's hand felt weird and that wasn't even dealing with the other things she might have had to do later on. How was he still okay with this?

But then again, she wasn't sure if he was taking this very well either. When she turned to look at him, there wasn't anything wrong with him, technically speaking. He was still blushing a bit, which again, was weird and not something he did before, and he was smiling, which wasn't something out of the ordinary for him. Except his smile looked a lot more... Stupid, for lack of a better term.

It was what he said afterwards that weirded her out a bit. It wasn't too much of a big deal, however. Maybe it was a slip of the tongue and he ended up saying something he didn't mean to say. She couldn't blame him for feeling awkward in a situation like this. "I hope you're not taking the phrase 'biting the hand that feeds you' literally," she teased, hoping that her little comment would have at least diminished any awkwardness between them. "But if that's what you want, then that's what we'll do."

The walk to the tables was a short one. Once they were there, Saskia motioned with her hand at the options presented in front of them, her other hand still on Lamik's. "We went a little overboard here, but feel free to choose from the options we have." She attempted a smile. Maybe she could get used to this over time.

Lamik did his best to listen to what Saskia was saying, taking in the words successfully but only really processing them a few moments later than one usually would. The boy knew that this would probably be one of the most important decisions of his life, as choosing the wrong kind of tea could lead to disastrous consequences. For example, if he picked green tea and Saskia didn't like green tea she would probably think something like "I dont like green tea, therefore I dont like Lamik, therefore we aren't friends anymore". Yes, that was a completely logical thing to worry about, definitely not only there because of the incredible anxiety that Lamik felt at the thought that he was holding the girl's hand.

The one emotion that overcame that anxiety, however, was his delight. The delight made it all ok. More than that, the delight made it clear to Lamik that he couldn't let something as stupid as being nervous get in the way of their the romance. Shaking his head quickly to clear his train of thought, Lamik stammered a bit before actually getting what he wanted to say out. "H-how about w-we just sit down a bit first and talk?" Before really waiting for a response, Lamik squeezed Saskias a bit and pulled out the nearest chair, sitting down without letting her go.
