Spider Monkey vs. Sloth
This event is part of the Castelobruxo International Capture the Flag event
26TH OF JUNE, 2026 IN THE JUNGLE ARENA
After breakfast on the twenty-sixth of June, excited Castelobruxo students and their visitors gathered by the Jungle arena. The guests displayed a varied compote of nerves: some were excited, some would boast about their prospects of winning, while others, who had heard about the potentially dangerous terrain, would wish that they had never signed up. Nevertheless, it was too late to back out now, as Headmaster Santiago paved the way through green overgrowth that got progressively thicker the further they ventured from the school grounds, for the first teams to claim their bases and hide their flags. Since South America was experiencing its calendar winter, their guests would find the outside temperature pleasant. Meanwhile, the Castelobruxo students and islanders were used to considerably warmer weather.
Reaching the thickest part of the rainforest you could get without taking a trip to the nearby jungle village, they came to a halt. Santiago lifted his head and squinted towards the overhead canopy. The sky was clear. For now. The people accustomed to living in these conditions knew that the rainforest had a tendency to be unpredictable. Rain might begin to fall without warning, but for now, they seemed to have a dry game day ahead of them. After taking a glance around the groups, he thought it was for the best; it would have been a shame to scare them away before the games had begun.
The teams had been named after different Amazonian animals, which the groups were more or less satisfied with. Predictably, Santiago didn't care if they were satisfied about their assigned animal or not.
Before he sent the teams off in the opposite directions, he clarified some of the rules, hands resting on his hips in a casual stance. “This is it, Spider Monkeys and Sloths." Glancing over the first and third years, he couldn't help but smirk. "Once you’re in there, you’re on your own. If you see something that looks dangerous, my advice is to not stick around long enough to find out. Me and the judges will keep eyes on the bases.”
“What about fouls?” A student asked, to which Santi only shrugged with an indifferent expression.
“That’s up to the rainforests’ discretion.” A twinkle of mischief briefly broke through his otherwise stoic expression as he added, “Remember, there are eyes everywhere.” Not just human eyes.
Uncertain glances were shared by some of the students, causing the more experienced players to chuckle lightly. Even the Headmaster’s lips tugged into an amused smirk, having seen this happen many times before; each instance was just as interesting as the last. It never got old.
“Well, what are we waiting for? To base!” He clapped his hands, sending them off.

HOW TO PLAY
The game ends when either team successfully retrieved the other teams flag to their base. Team Spider Monkey will be starting the game in Zone 1 and Team Sloth will be in Zone 4 at the opposite end of the arena. There will be at most 10 rounds, each requiring a post of 200+ words. Please make sure you include your character's stats in your post.
During the first round only, each team must state which zone their flag is hidden in to the thread moderator. You may chose to hide the flag in any of the 4 zones. The flag remains in that zone unless successfully discovered or moved through gameplay mechanics. Do not reveal in game where the flag is located.
Each round, everyone in the team must make at least one action from the Capture the Flag actions list, unless they are unable to act due to a status effect or restriction. These actions are zone dependent. The team scores points by making successful flag actions or interceptive actions towards a flag carrier. Please note that players may only move between adjacent zones and cannot skip zones while travelling.
At the conclusion of each round, the zone state map will be updated to reflect all player locations. Players may only target characters who are in the same zone as them at the end of the previous round. If a target moves out of the zone during the following movement phase, the action automatically fails, with the exception of Flag Intercept and non-magical support actions that include a chase mechanic. When performing these actions, the player automatically follows the target into the destination zone as part of the interaction.
If the action fails while chasing, the pursuing player is left behind in the original zone while the target successfully gains distance.
Rules regarding roll resolution, action priority, and other game mechanics can be found HERE.
At least one member of the team must owl the entire teams' action list to @Cecilia Merrick before the posting deadline.

Spider Monkeys.
They sounded really, really cool. While Dido didn’t exactly know what the creatures were or, more specifically, how spidery or monkey-like they looked, she could easily create a picture in her head of something that might possibly match the animals. Her imagined species were definitely furry, like opossums, but probably a little bigger, about half way between a spider and a monkey. They definitely had long limbs, from the spider part of the name, but Dido decided, or rather, hoped, that they were unlikely to have eight of these arms. After all, Dido hadn’t been the hugest fan of the eight-legged insects since that terrifying encounter with them during detention.
All in all, Dido was fond of the name and hopeful that her team would win. The entire event sounded fun and, to her immense relief, she hadn’t seen a sign of that dratted Ravenclaw anywhere near their game. More than that, the entire event had so far been a joy, particularly the lovely weather which was a charming contrast to Hogwarts’ fierce Scottish winds. As she arrived at the meeting place, enjoying the warm air, she glanced around to work out who-
Tes Cadell.
Dido’s cheeks burned red. Instantly she felt the urge to flee the scene, to run away as quickly as fearful thoughts rushed around her mind. Had she seen? Did she remember Dido’s reactions? Had she noticed the bright blue crest which had been on her robes for the better part of two months?
Forcing her captivated gaze to shift from the young girl, Dido saw a couple of the girls from her Quidditch game out of the corner of her eye; one girl was on Dido’s team, the other not. She gave a weak smile and half-wave to the former, unwilling to call out a possibly incorrect name and so finally turning to stare at the ground. Not even once did she turn towards Tina. She listened to the Castelobruxo Headmaster’s instructions, half-heartedly chuckling on instinct at the slight note of joviality in his words rather than actually recognising the meaning. But it didn’t matter, right? It was just Capture the Flag- It couldn’t be that hard.
At the Headmaster’s behest, Dido followed the other few students on the “Spider Monkeys” team, trudging slightly behind so as to avoid any conversations. None of them saw, right? It had only been a few people. And anyway, Mikaela had been in the wrong. It was her fault. So wrapped up in the worries that had plagued her since earlier in the month, Dido only realised they had got to their starting area when someone stopped and Dido managed to somehow trip over one of the tree roots tracing the ground. She could do this. She could get through this.

Well most people would think sloths meant slow. But sloths also meant patience. Which was definitetly something needed in a game like this. Sure speed was important, but if you weren't patient you would almost certainly miss something.
She made her way over to her team's zone in the jungle. She recognised some of her teammates but the only one she had actually interacted with was Henry. Barring Denise tho, their interaction was just a bit of duelling. She walked over to say hi but paused to listen to the Castelobruxo's headmaster's instructions first.
His comments about eyes everywhere made a shiver go down her back. There had been a strange sense of something looking at her constantly during the last few hours. She shook it off. Now was not the time to be thinking about what could be staring at her but rather what was to be their first course of action.
Now that the speech was over, she went over to say hi to Henry, trying not to startle him like how she did the first time they met. Hello! She said trying to sound cheerful. Truth be told, she was just trying to be positive on the off chance one of her team-mates needed a bit of reassurance. In reality she was terrified.
The jungle was dark in many areas due to the amount of trees. For as much as she loved the night and being out to watch the stars, she was scared of the dark. Or to be more specific, what could come out of the dark. Being out at night at Hogwarts was fine to a degree since she was mostly in the Astronomy tower where she knew it was safe. But in a jungle like this? Where she had never been? She was walking into completly unknown territory. She took a deep breadth as they prepared to start. She couldn't show any signs of fear. She had to seem strong and confident.Action: as strategised. Stats I know its in my rp code but for convinence:ReducioStamina: 6

Team Spider Monkey? Really? Well better than Team Sloth I suppose.
I looked around my teammates, some fmailiar faces, some not so much.
I saw Ophelia in the crowd and I noticed Dido the moment she looked away. Eyes on the ground, shoulders tense like she’d just been caught doing something wrong.
So she does remember.
I didn’t say anything. Just let my gaze linger for a second before turning away, pushing past a curtain of vines; this school was.. okay. I like green so I felt in my element.
Looking around the crowd I noticed Tina as well, great. Just great. Somehow she always managed to end up with me, then I turned to Salim, who was also taking part, well that should be fun.
We reached our starting point. The jungle felt… off.
I didn't want to lose my time doing a "meet and greet" so I went straight for it
I glanced up. The canopy was thick, barely letting light through, “We shouldn’t keep it here.”
My voice cut cleanly through the group. A few heads turned.
“Zone 1 is obvious. So they might not check it first.”
I brushed the dirt from my hands, glancing briefly at Salim before looking back at the others.
The Headmaster’s words echoed in my mind, and suddenly they didn’t feel like a joke.
I straightened and stepped forward, “I'd like to search for the flag” I say before continuing, " From what I know from some of you, it would be a good idea if Tina stays in Zone 2 in the pond and Ophelia in zone 3 with vines." I thought it'd be the best way to strategize if people were located there.

The slightly nervous almost-twelve-year-old Henry didn't actually mind being on Team Sloth. Sloths were cool, absolutely fascinating, yet they managed to be so while also avoiding being a mascot that made him feel like he had to fake being badass just to measure up. If anything, the name might make the other team cocky enough to underestimate them. One could hope, anyway.
Tugging at the sleeves of his overshirt, he swept his blue eyes across the sight of the jungle surrounding them. The nature-lover feeling absolutely in his element for once ...until the bit about eyes being everywhere made him gulp. Bristol didn't have very many four-legged creatures that watched from the shadows. Well, mundane ones, in any case. The Muggleborn boy had made a point of not looking up if any dangerous magical beasts shared a hometown with him, in the fear he'd never have a good night's sleep at home again if he learned the answer. So the implication that he might be something's lunch today made his knees wobble. The boy had been average height at the start of the school year, but several of his classmates had hit their growth spurts by now. Meanwhile he was still under 5 feet tall. In other words - bite sized.
While Fawkes' intentions had been immeasurably kind in not trying to repeat the encounter at the Pride Boat Decorating Event where she'd made him jump; sadly, he was still contending with the thought of possibly being something's snack this afternoon, so he flinched at the unexpected hello. Spinning quickly, he looked at her with a nervous smile and eyes were incredibly wide with panic, PLEASE DON'T EAT ME!!! then, almost immediately, his expression softened almost considerably, Oh! It's Fawkes! Not a talking jaguar! Yay!
"Heh, I promise I'm not always like this... It's honestly bloody wonderful to see a friendly face," The Hufflepuffling said, running his fingers through his dark hair, then looking around them again, "Blimey, Fawkes, look at this place. It's almost as gorgeous as it is absolutely terrifying." He glanced down at the mud squelching beneath his boots as he shifted his weight back and forth. "Well, maybe certain aspects of the view could use a slight improvement or two."
Henry looked over at his other teammates, casually noting that he seemed to be the only boy in the group. Not that he thought that was a problem, to him it was just an interesting sidenote. Turning back to Fawkes, he whispered, "I recognize three of them from my Common Room, but I don't think I've ever spoken to them before, except in passing." He adjusted his gloves anxiously, while peering into the dense jungle once more, "Well, maybe surviving whatever rubbish is about to happen might make us all best mates, who knows."

Spider monkeys were one hundred percent, indubitably superior to sloths. That, the Gryffindor was sure of. This was an athletic competition. Sloths were not known for their great prowess in any physical domain. Did they not spend half the day eating and sleeping? Please. Dahlia was confident that the Team Spider Monkey was the objectively superior team, at least over the other option.
She looked to her teammates. "Hey!" She returned the greeting, gaze falling over the crowd. A few faces stood out. Dahlia had met Ophelia several times. Her fellow housemate seemed to be everywhere. As for the others, she had seen a few of them around but could not remember concrete occasions on which she had talked to them. A shame. She would do her best to show them her prowess by leading her team to an irrefutable victory.
The Gryffindor witch bounced on her toes. Her hands moved to fiddle with her hair elastic, first tying a ponytail, then a loose bun. Dahlia had not been prepared for Brazil's heat. It was her first time outside of Eurasia which made her all the more excited to see all that she possibly could of Castelobruxo.
Unfortunately, she had to focus. First, on the speech from the headmaster and then on her teammates' strategy. Dahlia would surely get the last pick role if she did not speak up. "Wow. Bossy much." She shot a pointed glare towards Tes. They were teammates, yes, but that did not save the Slytherin from Dahlia's harsh words. Someone ought to make sure Team Spider Monkey did not become monarchical. Hence, the Gryffindor took it upon herself to contribute.
I'm also going to Zone 3," Dahlia spoke up, interjecting. She wasn't quite sure what the forest had in store but, of course, she had to select the most difficult option. Vines could not possibly hurt her.

"A wise girl knows her limits; A smart girl knows she has none."
Spider Monkey vs. Sloth
Denise is a mountain girl from a small rural village. She is used to nature, despite its chaos, but the extreme jungles in Castelobruxo blew her away. Well, she hoped this capture the flag challenge would not blow her away literally.
She didn't know many people, except Fawkes Chaos, whom she modded in her duel, and Denisse De Vera during a prank war in the library, which was rather mean of her. She tied her hair into a ponytail, looking rather serious and daunted. Despite not knowing anybody, she did compose this team and wanted to win.
Well, she did kinda know everyone since everyone was a firstie, but she didn't know them to the level that she knew her friends.
To be fair, she also knew her fellow Hufflepuffs such as Henry Holbrook, Olivia Cuthburt, and, of course, De Vera. While a few whispered to those they knew, perhaps they should know each other a bit before departing and doing whatever.
"Hello, everyone," Denise said, feeling nervous as all eyes were on her. "If you don't already know me, my name is Denise Yarbrough. I think everyone should introduce each other before we start the game."
She really did hope she didn't make things more awkward.

The Headmaster's words came back to me, "Once you’re in there, you’re on your own. If you see something that looks dangerous, my advice is to not stick around long enough to find out." "Remember, there are eyes everywhere.” It sent a shiver down my spine and made me quite nervous. I was used to being in the woods like the ones behind my house, but a rainforest was very different. The scent of wet grass and soil seemed to calm me down, I sure hope it'd last.
I was a part of Team Sloth, at first anyone would probably be disappointed. One of the slowest and laziest creatures, that sleep for about 20 hours a day. But I had a habit of looking beyond what meets the eye. Sloths, in fact are very strong and flexible, and are excellent swimmers. Their fur helps them camouflage, protecting them from predators. Much like the other creatures that live in the rainforest, Sloths too have the apt qualities to thrive there.
I was super excited about the game, I'd never played capture the flag before. "I sure hope we win." I looked around at my teammates, none of whom I was familiar with, except Lauren. I'd seen some of them around hogwarts, but had never interacted with them. Some of them already seemed familiar with each other. Before I could approach someone, a girl from my team spoke, she introduced herself as Denise Yarbrough, and suggested we all do the same. I replied, "Hey guys, I'm Avery Abernathy. I'm really excited to be a part of this. I'm sure we'd do great, and probably win."
