The First Meet

"Please Wisteria?" Hex joined in, laughing at Damaris and the way she had grabbed the other two girls in her arms. She poured herself another goblet of pumpkin juice and thought about her dorm room. Damaris, Wisteria, Rikkali, Haeli, and herself of course. What a fantastic combination, she thought to herself. She could definitely see herself getting up to all sorts of mischief with these girls. Especially Rikkali, she seemed to be ready for pranks at any opportunity - and Hex was more than willing to join in.

She knew books was the way to get to their hearts, and it just so happened they had the same taste. She remembered speaking with Wisteria about Bungou Stray Dogs, she had never expected to find anyone with the same taste in muggle shows or books as her but here she was, surrounded by likeminded friends.

Behind them, a raucous noise came from the Slytherin table, a couple of first years laughing to themselves. Turning back to her friends, she eagerly awaited Wisteria's response, of course she already knew what it would be. Remembering how excited and energised Damaris got at night, she was prepared that perhaps in this dorm, she would be adventuring a great deal more than she would be sleeping.

Wisteria looked at all their faces one by one.
"Of course!" she said, smiling slightly. "Haeli's really nice."
Wisteria continued to eat her food, thinking of all the fun they'd all have in the dorms. She'd finally found people like her. After a lonely childhood, she never thought she could be this happy with friends.
"Oh, and Haeli, I love Lord of the Rings too! I've read all the books, including The Hobbit and The Silmarillion. I haven't watched the movies yet though, but I might in the near future."
Wisteria picked up a treacle tart from her plate and bit into it. It had an intensely rich, sweet flavor. She'd never had one of these in her life, but she loved it the second she bit into it. Wisteria tried to guess the ingredients from the taste.
Hmm... maybe lemon, and... some weird but tasty syrup I can't recognize... anyways, who cares about the ingredients? All that matters is that it's good.
Wisteria finished the treacle tart and cleaned her hands. She brought out a book and started to read it, half reading and half listening to conversations. It was strangely peaceful. Even amidst the cacophony of screaming voices, she felt a sense of calmness.

Haeli just couldn't be happier! One: they had room in their dorm for her, and two: they were doating on her like she was a pet. In a way that sounds super weird, but to Haeli, it was super comforting. She was blushing and had a giant smile on her face. She was used to smiling, but not really. She usually never smiled a genuine smile, but all she had done throughout the day was smile genuine smiles. And they only became more frequent around this fine group of girls.

"The library actually wasn't that hard to find," she started, her smile not fading one bit, "If you go down the small hall and take a right, you'll see two gigantic wooden doors. Just through there is eternal hippieness."

She loved that the other girls were into reading as much as her. The truth is, she wasn't sure if the library would have a muggle section, as far as she could tell, they don't, so when packing she was just going to bring one or two books with her. It turns out that she couldn't choose so she got a small trunk and filled it with a ton of books. She has at least thirty at her disposal, and she couldn't wait to show the others.

"The Hunger Games is one of the best! All of the movies hit just right too! Percy Jackson was so good it deserves an award, and The Maze Runner is legendary. I could literally talk about them all day. The Lord of the Rings is super complex. I think that's why I enjoyed it so much. Same with The Hobbit. I am about half way through The Silmarillion, it is definitely a must read, in my opinion." Haeli could quite literally talk about this all night, but she was scared she might ware out the others. She ended with a big smile on her face and decided that she would need to get going if she wanted to get into bed at a responsible time, however, she could tell that she probably wasn't going to get any sleep.

"I still need to put my crap away, do one, or all, of you think you could show me what dormitory yall are in?" Haeli was very satisfied with her day and her new friends, she was no longer embarrassed to speak her mind, so this flew out of her mouth as easy as ever.

other girls, still lost in her own thoughts. It was like she was in her own world, except her world included these girls, all four of them. She started to take a bite of her Treacle Tart just as Damaris had placed an arm around her and pulled her in close. Her Treacle Tart flew from her hand, landing back on her plate thankfully.

Rikkali wasn't entirely sure what they had even been talking about at first but quickly got the gist of it. When Wisteria agreed, Rikkali gave a smile. Looking at Haeli for a moment. 'She doesn't look like she'd enjoy a prank or two. In fact, she looks as if she is one for being good and always following the rules.' she thought to herself. Not that there is anything wrong with a rule follower. Just that it is definitely not for her. Suddenly, a fleeting thought crossed her mind, causing Rikkaly to grin in a most mischievous way. Rikkali entertained the idea of corrupting Haeli. 'How fun would it be to fully corrupt someone who otherwise seems incorruptible?' she thought to herself.

At the mention of the muggle books, she gave another smile. "I've read and seen Lord of the Rings. As well as the Hunger games. But my all-time favorite would be Dragonriders of Pern. I will re-read those books over and over. Each time seems to be better than the last. I used to sit and dream of being one of those within the story...a Dragonrider. Being able to finally walk out onto those Hatching sands and waiting to be chosen by one of the hatchlings, then later caring for that hatchling, and then later still riding it. Flying the skies would feel so....free. If only someone could just step into the pages of books and leave behind everything else." she stated as her eyes seemed to take on that faraway look, much like the riders did in her story when they were conversing with their dragons.

“Dragon books are awesome, Rikkali!” Hex playfully nudged her friend. “You’ll have to let me borrow them sometime”.

Turning back to the group of girls, she was excited to see how immediately they had joined her in welcoming Haeli. She would be a fantastic addition to their dorm room. “We can head there now if you’d like? I’ve pretty much eaten all I can anyways” she pushed the treacle tart away from her and made to stand up.

“It’ll be so fun to have you in the dorm - it probably means I’ll have a good chance at staying alive a little longer!” She chucked, remembering how Haeli had helped her at the lake.

The Great Hall was starting to fill up and Hex noticed the Gryffindor table becoming more and more busy. Thinking about the different years, she asked the other girls,

“Given that we are all a bit of late starts, are you going to be moving to second year in September or staying first?” She wondered whether they would continue to be in the same year when she, herself, moved up to second year in September. She knew they’d be friends no matter what at least, and probably share all the same classes anyway.

"You can definitely count on it!" Haeli said to Hex whenever she said that there is a good chance of her staying alive a little bit longer. "I try to make sure everyone lives," Haeli said in a joking tone, as she laughed.

Haeli was ready to get a move on as she saw the Great Hall filling up. There were people flooding through the doors. She wasn't really into being around a ton of people, she liked solitude. However, she was very happy with the friends she met and made today. She had a feeling that they would change her mind about being in a large crowd of people.

Hex started to ask everyone if they would be moving to second year in September. Haeli wasn't sure of the answer for her, so she just didn't say anything. She thought that she was going to move up in September, because her birthday is in September. However, she didn't know if Hogwarts goes by birthday or the month you entered in, so...

Hex had already asked Haeli if she wanted to go, so she took the opportunity. Haeli leaned a little closer to Hex so she wouldn't have to yell over the Slytherin table. "Hey, can I take you up on that idea of going to the dormitory, right now?"

Whilst waiting for her friends to answer, she heard Haeli ask about the dormitory. Spinning around to face her, the noise of the Slytherin table getting louder, she grinned at her friend.
"Of course! We can head up there now if you'd like? I will warn you though, there are books everywhere, so watch your step!" She was excited to share her space with Haeli and to have yet another new friend t0 see in the common room and in her classes.

Turning back to the others, she extended the invite. "Fancy joining? We could all show Haeli around if you'd like?" She hoped that the others would want to come, it was exciting being able to hang out with them all before classes started. She knew soon she would have to make a start on her class reading rather than her fiction reading, something she wasn't exactly looking forward to. But not just yet, she definitely earned herself a few more days relaxing in to her schedule before getting to the hard work.

She stood up from the table and shrugged her jumper on once more, before heading out the Great Hall - the others hopefully in tow. She was interested to see Haeli's reaction to the room and whether she was as excited as Hex had been upon entering it for the first time.

"If it is a book that has Dragons, Griffins, Phoenixes, Unicorns, Pegasus, or simply magic... my nose is most likely in that book. There is one series by Mercedes Lackey, she writes about these beautiful white horses called Companions. These horses are amazing. For one they choose their rider. They would travel to the other side of the world to choose that rider. Somehow, they just know where to go to find them. They use telepathy to converse with their riders. The rider normally has some type of magic, although in Valdemar, they don't call it magic, it's called Gifts. She has written many of these books and are another of my favorite." she stated as Hex and Haeli rose from their seats, mentioning going back to the dorm.

She followed hearing the question about whether they would be going to second year in September or not. "Honestly, I think it might depend on the Powers that Be." Rikkali giggled at her calling their Professors the Powers that Be. "I mean if you want to be technical, we literally just started, have yet to start our First Year classes, if we were all bumped to Second Year without learning First Year stuff, we might miss something very important that would be very needed in the years to come." Rikkali stated.

finishing her First year, or rather even starting First Year classes. She imagined missing out on learning something very important and therefore not being very productive in her Second year. "I for one am here to learn all I can while I am here. Without it, I won't be able to achieve nothing once I've left this school." she replied as they made their way to their dorm room.

Damaris smiled and rose from her seat, adjusting her uniform shirt slightly and and placed her hands on her hips, adopting a relaxed posture.
Once back on her feet, she turned to look at Rikkali and Wisteria, waiting to see if they would also get up—assuming they wanted to come along, of course.
"I'm going; I want to stretch my legs a bit... are you coming?" she asked the other two girls, awaiting their reply; whether it was a yes or a no, it was their right to decline if they wished.
She glanced at Haeli and smiled; it was as if they had known each other forever—they already shared a great deal of trust, which made Damaris very happy. Then, to be more comfortable, she tied her hair back into a loose bun using a hair tie from her wrist, letting a few curls fall freely across her forehead and in front of her ears; this revealed the piercings in her right earlobe and the upper part of her left ear—the latter connected by a silver chain to the earring in her lobe—a look she loved to show off, as it made her feel at ease.
