Elara arrived at the library with far more time to spare than she probably needed. In her defense, she was still getting used to Hogwarts. The castle was large, confusing, and seemed determined to have more staircases than any reasonable building should. Leaving early had felt like the safest option. As it turned out, she had found the library without getting lost at all. The realization left her standing near the entrance for a second longer than necessary.

Adjusting the strap of her bag, Elara stepped further inside. Students were already scattered throughout the room, some buried behind stacks of books while others sat with parchment spread across their tables. Nobody seemed particularly interested in what anyone else was doing, which made it easier to relax.

She walked between the tables at an unhurried pace, glancing around as she went. The bookshelves were even taller up close than they had looked from the doorway. For a brief moment, she found herself wondering how anyone was supposed to reach the books near the very top. Hmm... maybe magic... that was the usual answer around here anyway, as she thought, and she almost smiled.

Remembering why she had come, Elara looked around for an empty seat. It did not take long to find one. She chose a table that gave her a clear view of the entrance, then set her bag down beside the chair. Before taking a seat, she smoothed an imaginary crease from her skirt.

It was not as though she had never waited for someone before, yet knowing she was about to meet her assigned mentor made it feel different somehow. When she had submitted the form, the whole thing had seemed distant. A name she had not met yet. A future conversation that would happen eventually.

Elara rested her hands in her lap and glanced toward the entrance again, nothing... A few moments later, she caught herself doing the same thing, but still nothing... Realizing she was already checking the door far too often, she forced her attention elsewhere. A student hurried past carrying an impressive pile of books that looked one bad step away from collapsing. Another appeared to be searching the same shelf for several minutes without finding whatever they were looking for. The distractions helped, even if only because they kept her from checking the entrance every few seconds.

Robin didn’t mean to fall asleep in the library. It wasn’t her fault that the couch cushion was so cozy. And that the fire was crackling in a way that made her eyes droop. It might have been her fault that she didn’t get enough sleep the night before reading up on one of her care of magical creatures books. Robin was a third-year student now, which meant she had signed up for a few extra classes than in previous years. She didn’t realize how much she would grow to love the Care of Magical Creatures class, but the more she learned, the more she couldn’t wait to get outside and interact with all of the species she’d never even heard of.

So now, when Robin was supposed to have been meeting up with her newest mentee of the year, she was too busy snoring away on the couch to realize she was already late for her meeting with her Hufflepuff first year. By the sheer luck of whoever was watching down on her, Robin was only just able to infiltrate her own dreams about unicorns and kneazles to remind her that she had somewhere important to be.

Waking up with a startled gasp because yes, she was supposed to be meeting her mentee right about… the Ravenclaw groggily opened her eyes to look at her watch, her curly hair splayed out across the cushion, frizzy from her nap. She jolted when she realized she was already twelve minutes past the meeting time. Then she relaxed when she realized she was only twelve minutes past the meeting time. She was in no rush.

Quickly standing from the couch and fluffing the cushion she was resting on, Robin centered herself, smoothing her clothes out and wiping the sleep from her face. Her hair would be a lost cause if it weren’t for the magical barrette she carried around for moments like this. Clipping it onto the side of her head, her hair popped right back into shape, as crisp and curly as could be. Anyone who would see her now wouldn’t ever have realized she was just lost in a dream cycle mere moments ago.

Collected, Robin checked her watch once more. Fifteen minutes past the meeting time. Robin left the sanctuary of her favorite reading cove and turned the corner to scan the tables. She was looking for a small Hufflepuff girl… there. A pretty girl with chestnut hair and freckles sat at a table, glancing at the door every few moments. Robin figured that was the girl she was looking for.

Robin approached on silent feet from the opposite side the Hufflepuff's attention was directed at and cleared her throat, “Are you Elara? I ran over in a meeting with the transfiguration professor. I appreciate you waiting,” She lied, dropping casually into the seat beside the girl, bag tumbling to the ground in a heap. “Welcome to Hogwarts!” She tried not to let the sarcasm bleed so obviously from her lips. “I’m Robin. Your mentor or whatever,” she dismissed due to her dislike of the name. She much preferred “guide”. “How’s it been so far for you?”

The sound of someone clearing their throat beside her made Elara flinch slightly. She looked up at once, surprised to find someone standing there. She had been watching the library entrance for so long that she hadn't expected anyone to come from the other side.

"Are you Elara? I ran over in a meeting with the Transfiguration professor. I appreciate you waiting," the girl said. Elara blinked once then she realised oh... this must be my mentor, before giving a small smile. "Yes, I'm Elara. It's nice to meet you," she said quietly.

Robin sat down beside her, letting her bag fall to the floor without much thought. Elara noticed it, though Robin didn't seem to. At the mention of the transfiguration professor, Elara gave a small nod, "That's alright." She had been waiting for a while, but that was partly because she had arrived much earlier than she needed to. It didn't seem like something worth mentioning.

"Welcome to Hogwarts! I'm Robin. Your mentor or whatever. How's it been so far for you?" Robin asked. Elara took a moment before answering. "I think... it's been good," she said with a small smile appeared. "It's all still very new. I left early because I thought I'd get lost trying to find the library," She gave a quiet laugh. "Turns out I worried for nothing."

She glanced toward the bookshelves for a moment before looking back at Robin. "I wasn't expecting the castle to be quite this big." She said as she rested her hands in her lap. "But everyone's been really kind so far. That's made things a lot easier."

She looked at Robin with quiet curiosity. Since this was her first meeting with a mentor, she wasn't entirely sure what usually came next. She decided to wait, giving Robin the chance to lead the conversation.
