Iris watched out of the corner of her eye as Thomas approached her. She didn't want to lose focus so she didn't say anything, figuring that he might walk past her. This was the library after all. Many other witches and wizards walked past without saying or doing anything to her all the time that she was here, which was a lot. This corner in particular was one of her favorite spots because she enjoyed the peace and quiet. It allowed her to practice her spells and study without much interruptions. She enjoyed that because as a daughter of a wealthy pure blood familiar who is the first one in a while to be sorted into Gryffindor instead of Slytherin she always feels the need to prove herself. Which, is why she spends extra time of spell accuracy.
When the boy decides to approach her she looks up and forces a smile before shaking his hand. "Hi! I'm Iris." She says as a greeting and only because she knows that you always introduce yourself by stating your name.
She looks at the boy and waits for him to introduce himself. She tilts her head and keeps smiling, opting to also put her wand and textbook down and turn towards him for a welcoming body language. She was indeed practicing the levitation charm, just to get that extra proficiency at it like she had done with many other spells. So much so that she would be able to basically do it with her eyes closed.

Thomas grinned as she responded, it seemed he had finally started a real conversation with this girl. She was always studying, always trying to prove herself so he was excited to have a real discussion with her. "I'm Thomas, at your service," he would say cheerfully before awaiting her response back. He had seen how talented she was in all of her classes, definitely a role model for an impulsive student such as him.
"Are you studying the levitation charm?" He asked a bit confused. "I thought we already went over that?" He had done some studying sometimes out of class but not unless it was desperately needed. He preferred to go with the flow and only do his homework the night before. There was so much to do at Hogwarts so why would he spend the whole time studying, he had his whole life for that.
His hair tilted slowly in front of his eyes, not on purpose but more of a subtle gesture that always seemed to happen to the fella. He pushed it out of the eyes so he could get a better look at the girl in front of him. He noticed that there were many spell books behind him that he may try to sneak home during the summer.

When the boy introduced himself she gave him a quick 'Nice to meet you' before she shook his hand.
She smiled slightly when she was asked if she was using the levitation charm then she nodded quickly.
"Yes! I am from a household of very successful witches and wizards and I pride myself on excelling with every spell I cast. So though I am going over the levitation charm again, I'm trying to be an expert in casting it." She explained with a big smile, she was a shy kid but was always excited to boast about herself when she was able to.
She watched for his reaction. She knew that he would either be excited and think that it was cool, or maybe think that she was weird for studying so hard and trying to be so proficient in spells even though she was still only in her first year. But, not only was it important to her to be great at casting any spell that she learned she also did receive some pressure from her family as well. But she wouldn't say something like that to a boy that she had just met. So, she just decided for a more simple explanation instead.
