Cauldrons and Catastrophes
✦━━━━━━✦━━━━━━✦

Jay started laughing. A genuine loud laugh. This Wisteria person was acting like she was in a Disney villain. Jay doubled over with laughter as she tried to speak. "You know, haha!" Soon enough Jay collected herself, she stood up straight and looked at Wisteria. "oh my gosh, look no one CARES or gives two shits until you're either pretty, rich or dead" Jay chuckled.
Who does this girl think she is? Either way this is freaking hilarious
Wisteria and Jay were both now standing outside the Cauldron shop, Jay was laughing loudly and Wisteria looked cold and shut down, the exact opposite of each other. "If you think sweetie is insecure let me explain something to you" Jay wasn't insecure, she knew that about herself at least, Jay knew she was smart and she could do what she wanted with the right amount of effort put into it. Jay had better things to do than worry about what other people viewed her, she knew that people hated her and her personality but she liked how she was.
I like myself. So it doesn't matter whatever other people think
"Honey, being insecure is a waste of my fun and time, you are only the latter" Jay started "I'm me, I'll be me. Everyone can either adjust or fuck off and find someone else to be rude to"

Cauldrons and Catastrophes
As soon as Jay finished her speech, Wisteria looked up with a bored expression. She didn't react. That is, externally. She absolutely reacted internally.
Did she REALLY just say people don't care unless you're pretty, rich, or dead? That has got to be the FUNNIEST thing I have ever heard in my life. That right there is mass produced nihilism. I can't believe people actually think that! We as a society are truly devolving! Wisteria tried to hide her smirk, but failed. Her smirk lingered for half a second, and then she returned to that bored expression.
She blinked once. Slowly. Almost lazily.
Enough laughter, it's time to get serious. She genuinely believes she's being profound. Ha. Anyways, I can't waste my time on her. I need to buy a cauldron. I'll say one last thing to her and that's it.
"I appreciate your perspective, Jay. It’s rare to see someone speak with such confidence about something they’ve only half‑understood. You need some lessons in how the world works. Isn't that right... honey?" Wisteria used Jay's term against her, but without warmth.
Pretty, rich, or dead, what a philosophy. Wisteria thought. Being pretty or rich was the least she cared about.
Wisteria stepped past Jay so that she could reach the cauldrons. She continued browsing.

Jay coughed “Did you rehearse that in the mirror? It certainly sounds like it.” Jay chuckled as she followed Wisteria around the shop “You know I grew up in the real world, that’s why this little display is funny” she said unfazed while looking some brass scales.
This girl seriously thinks I don’t know about the real world? She needs a reality check. Fast
“Fine let’s see if you can educate me on the real world, I want to see how much you think you know” Jay grinned, Wisteria had kept a blank face until she had smirked at Jay’s comment on being rich, pretty or dead.
“My perspectives are pretty unique, thanks for noticing, I’ve always been a little weird but so what? No big deal is it?” Jay smirked, following Wisteria around the shop. Jay had grown up in the real world, London was the real world.
Jay had been bullied and only had one parent her whole life and even then her mum was often absent, working when Jay was asleep and sleeping while Jay was home.
They were just a mother and daughter that lived in an apartment in London, nothing special at all but Jay had learned how to do a whole lot of stuff the parents would normally do.
Was this Wisteria person making dinner for herself at eight years old?
Jay loved her mum, she knew her mum had to work so they could have a roof over their heads and she had gotten better the past few years before Hogwarts.
What does this girl know about the real world that she thinks is so important

Wisteria paused her cauldron browsing.
"We all have different perspectives. And for the record, no. I did not rehearse that in the mirror. Some of us actually think before we speak. Also, for your comment on the real world, the real world depends on what you grew up in. I grew up in a wizard and witch neighborhood in Germany. You grew up in the Muggle world. We both grew up in different worlds, so our perspectives differ. I was merely saying I could teach you about the world I grew up in, and you can teach me about yours."
Wisteria continued searching for the cauldron she needed, thinking about the parts of her backstory she had never told anyone.
The nightmares.
The severe paranoia.
The expectations.
The fear that something was always watching her, whether it be metaphorical or real.
Wisteria shook her head to clear her thoughts and thought about the word sonder again. She once thought Jay was just a random passerby, but now that they'd argued and talked, she knew Jay's life was just as complex as hers. Could they possibly be friends? No. They were too different.
Wisteria finally found the cauldron she was looking for and inspected it to see if it was a good quality one. It was dented. She frowned and picked up another, non dented one. She went to the cashier and paid for it.

Jay rolled her eyes, still following Wisteria. “Ok now that you have put in your opinion it is time for me to put in mine”
This was Jay’s favourite part about any conversation, she loved it “My opinion on your opinion is…” she paused and started tapping on the counter with her fingers in fast succession, the dust on the wood lifting up. “Drumroll please” she laughed to herself. An inside joke involving her and Winnie. Their Physical Education Teacher always asked for a drumroll before he started the lesson and if he didn’t see everyone do it, the whole lesson would start again.
She chuckled at the memory of a younger her sarcastically slapping the floor while Winnie tried hard not to either laugh, cry or explode. Any one of those seemed like an appropriate reaction.
“I don’t give a flying fuck about what you think!”
She announced it so loudly that some customers in the shop turned their heads to stare at Jay and Wisteria. Jay enjoyed the attention but her companion seemed to think otherwise. Wisteria seemed to hate the attention that was coming their way.
She thinks she’s had it bad huh? Well everyone does have their own problems and they can feel however they like.
“I’m not a bitch” she smiled to the woman at the counter “actually that is a lie” she corrected herself “I am a bitch”

Wisteria froze. Not in shock, but in disgust. Her expression didn't change, but something behind her eyes went flat.
Warum muss jedes Gespräch mit dir zu einem Theaterstück werden? Es ist… ermüdend, auf eine Art, die Worte kaum fassen können, she thought.
She waited until the customers stopped staring. Then she turned to Jay calmly.
"You don't give a flying fuck about what I think." Wisteria's voice was quiet. A bit too quiet.
She paused and blinked slowly.
"Yes. I noticed. But here's the part you missed, Jay. Your opinion of my opinion is still an opinion. Which means... it means nothing."
She studied Jay.
"You announced that you're a bitch like it's something new. It isn't. It's just predictable. If you're done performing, I'd like to exist in peace for once."
Wisteria continued browsing. She needed some copper scales and glass phials. As she was looking for them, she decided to mentally plan out the rest of her shopping route.
Okay... I've already done Flourish and Blotts and Ollivander's. I'm at Potage's Cauldron Shop... I could go to Weasley's Wizard Wheezes next, and then maybe the Apothecary Shop, and then Madam Malkin... She continued planning until she finally found the glass phials. She picked them up and turned each one around, looking for cracks. She found none.
