Hogwarts Pride Boat Parade
The appeal of romance, both fictional and felt, was nothing more than an uninteresting and unexplored concept to the pigtailed girl, the epic tales she's woven for herself from whispered wishes and youth's determination painting a future of adventure and thrill, not one of epic love. And although that'd change sooner than the young raven could've ever foretold, for now the reason she decided to join the march was the untold promise of a fun evening spend by the water with food and somewhat familiar but mostly unknown people.
Despite her lack of knowladge in the tradition, she was somewhat dressed for the occassion: clad in a faded spiral tie-dye shirt passed down to her from one of her cousins and in equally as well used and old jean overalls, her dull hair popping with bands of all colors, which spoke more for the girl's lack of care in color matching her accessories to her outfit than her excitement for this very event, though there wasn't a shortage of it either. It seeped out of her through a wide smile and skippy arrival to the boathouse area, one she rarely passed through and barely, if ever, stopped to look at. Now, when it burst with colors bright like flowers in full bloom, she couldn't help but just look.
The month of June wasn't any more special to her than any other month of the year, this Saturday not holding any more meaning than the last and yet.. and yet the sight of all these people gathered here in support of those that should never lack it tugged at her heart strings. Her smile and eyes now portraying sentimentality along her merriment, the change also visible in her relaxed frame, her slow steps lead her to the very centre of the happening.
She knew the girl she was to build a float with through an unofficial game of quidditch, both intense and relaxed in it's reduction of players and lack of benched ones, where they worked as a chaser and keeper of the same team. Proud of herself for not only remebering the origins of their relationship but also the girl's face and name, Sabrina greeted Denise (@Denise Yarbrough) with a toothy smile and an enthusiastic wave. Urged by her forever ravenous stomach, her own fingers reached for a colorful snack, scooping up a handful of chocolate dipped pretzels as she tailed her partner. Popping one into her mouth, she didn't wait to swallow before giving her answer, a few crumbs slipping out and catching on her lips as she did, 'Nothing specific - but I did spy glitter and pom-poms over there,' she nudged her head in the general direction of the supplies, 'we could have fun with those.'
In show of her excitement for the hufflepuff's idea, Sabrina let out a series of 'oh, oh!'s accompanied by a few silent claps, 'and we could add streamers that could trail behind the boat to indicate it's flight!' she added, already skipping away before returning with arms stuffed with creative supplies, most prominently two huge pieces of cardboard, she proudly set down besides their boat, 'so, what shape of wings were you thinking? Oh and what color you think the base should be? I think we can ask Aly there to swish her wand and re-color it for us'

With a bright smile that briefly crinkled his eyes, Henry transitioned from his handshake with Fawkes to Rosaline's sudden but pleasant interruption of offered food. "Oh, blimey, I've already had a bit to eat, but... maybe one empire biscuit couldn't hurt..." he said as he retrieved the treat. The shortbread crumbled a bit as his teeth sank into it. Some of the raspberry jam bulged out the sides, but ultimately it managed to stay in its designated area, at least for the most part. Still chewing, he shifted the food to his cheek and covered his mouth with his free hand so not to be quite so horrific about his manners.
"Oh! Right! Thanks for that. Sorry, reckon the sun's getting to me a bit if I managed to forget to thank you first. Didn't mean to be rude, promise." He said with a humble chuckle, then swallowed the bite. "Name's Henry." The Hufflepuff brushed his hands against his shorts.
"I like your hair ribbons, by the way, they're pretty! And the bi flag too! Blimey maybe I really should go run and grab a flag for myself before the parade..." He mused, briefly chewing on his bottom lip in thought. But after a moment of hemming and hawing, he stooped down to feel the base layer to test for dryness before moving on to do anything else. Some of the other groups already had their boats finished and in the water, which left him feeling a little behind schedule.
While he'd expected Leo to get there eventually, he hadn't quite prepared for the Ravenclaw boy to suddenly crouch down beside him and ask a question. Henry jumped a bit, then took a deep breath as he looked at Leo, his gaze instantly softening. There was something about the other boy's presence that instantly eased the sharp stab of anxiety that normally accompanied Henry whenever he met someone new. Maybe it was the chuckle, or the fact that he'd joined him near the ground, or maybe it was something about those eyes. He wasn't sure, but it was an immensely comfortable feeling.
After a few moments, it finally registered what Leo had said. He wanted to know what they thought of having the boat be styled after one of the flags? Seems the little blue eyed boy was still getting used to people wanting his opinion on choices like this.
"Oh, sure! I think that sounds perfect actually." A grin rose on his face like the dawn on the horizon. "I suppose all four of us have different identities, so, maybe the rainbow flag or the progressive flag? That way we're all represented." Ah, there was the anxiety back again, tying that familiar idea of 'what if they hate my ideas' into a knot around his lungs, squeezing out a hurried flurry of words, "But if you all think that design would be too obvious, I'm open to suggestions. I know everyone's probably already thought of that."
Clearing his throat, he glanced over at the rainbow cutout and pulled it closer, running his fingers over it. "Since we have so much glitter, maybe we could use it for this?" He suggested, feeling ever so slightly more confident that they wouldn't detest that idea, or him by extension. Slightly.

crafted by esme hestridgeThe concept of romance rarely crossed Cecilia’s mind, save for instances where she caught a glimpse of her eagle accomplice swooning over a certain lioness. While witnessing that spark of what they alleged to be friendship amused her, she was often too preoccupied with seething about a certain blonde or drowning in thoughts of Quidditch to concern herself with such matters.
That was not to say she had no interest in understanding her identity. She was simply skeptical due to her frequent encounters with part-veelas. Through this experience, Cecilia grew accustomed to the idea that noting one’s beauty was simply akin to an appreciation of art rather than an indicator of anything deeper. As of now, she felt fairly certain that there was nothing more to it – at least for her.
Still, she paused when the brightly coloured poster plastered on the wall caught her eye. Muggle traditions often piqued her curiosity, but there was something more that drew her to the pride parade. It did not really matter who she was, or who she thought she was. This was an opportunity to celebrate various identities over colourful snacks.
Upon gracing the event with her presence, Cecilia reached for a pink strawberry roll. Naturally, she felt the need to secure herself a float to participate in said parade. Keeping her mind occupied often kept any stray thoughts at bay, so decorating seemed like the perfect plan. After selecting her canoe, she nibbled on the final bits of her roll before turning on her heels to inspect the available materials.
In that moment, her gaze fixed upon the girl with sleek black hair; a stark contrast to her pale almost ghostly complexion. Despite not having the fortune to meet her fellow prefect formally, Cecilia had a vague idea of who she was. The fox tensed when her cat eyes locked onto her, but did not avert her gaze. Her lips simply curl into a faint smile, almost instinctively before she turned her attention to the array of decorations.
Her hand hovered over two particular flags. At the end of the day, being plagued by thoughts of a particularly irritating part-veela witch did not mean anything. That was certainly not who she was thinking of as she picked up the tri-coloured flag.
While she collected some paint and fringe, a familiar face drifted into her peripheral vision – the brunette girl she had caught lurking in the Forbidden Forest. A tinge of guilt nagged at Cecilia as she recalled the events of that night. Although she reassured herself that she had only been doing her job, she could not shake the uneasy feeling. Handing the girl a detention after being offered some healing paste felt low, even for her.
Cecilia shifted her weight as she contemplated her options. On one hand, leaving her alone would likely be her safest bet. On the other hand, this seemed like a silly thing to dwell over, and if it was so silly then there would be no issue with her simply approaching the girl. After the brief hesitation, Cecilia finally worked up the courage to stride over to her.
“Hey… Would you care to work on a float together?” She asked, eyes gleaming expectantly. Perhaps it would be best to wait for opening so that she could apologise properly.

Hogwarts Pride Boat Parade

There had been many names on the sign-up sheets for this boat-making event, lots of them unfamiliar to Aly, and the seventh-year Ravenclaw was filled with delight at the multitude of new faces that populated the Boathouse to create their queer floats. The elder of the two event organisers preened with satisfaction as she meandered through the leagues of younger students, providing help where needed: a boat colour-change with her wand here, a catch of a falling tub of glitter there. (She was quite sure that if the Boathouse were to be left in any semblance of a mess, they'd never be allowed to host anything there ever again. Not that it was a big issue for the soon-to-be graduate, personally, but she didn't necessarily want her last legacy upon this school to be that she had gotten everyone banned from this refuge on the water.)
When Aly was satisfied that no one else needed any assistance with their boats, she returned to her own: a brown canoe that would be the lead boat in the parade out upon the lake on the morrow. Her partner-in-crime, @Charlotte Winfield, would be in the boat with her, as the two girls had put together this whole event; it was helpful to have a prefect on her side, that much was for sure. With several flicks of her wrist and the aspen-wood wand in her hand, Aly changed the drab wooden brown to a rainbow of hues, nodding proudly when she had done so. "That's more like it," she said under her breath, reaching for some of the smaller tubs of paint she had levitated over from the crafts station. "I was thinking we write something to the effect of, say, Happy Pride, Hogwarts! on the side of the boat, since we'll be out in front of everyone and starting the parade." Although she had already splashed a brush into the red and was beginning to paint a thick H on one side of the boat, she still turned halfway over her shoulder to give Charlotte a raised eyebrow. "If you disagree, you'd best speak up now before I paint the whole thing!"
Whether Charlotte agreed or disagreed, Aly would at least have other things to add to their opening float other than just the message. She nabbed a pair of heart-shaped sunglasses from the costume portion, ready to show up in all three of the colours that her shirt was currently flashing tomorrow: pink, blue, and purple. Those same shades were painted onto her left hand, which was printed solemnly on the stern; if Charlotte wanted to add her own flag and handprint onto the front, she would be able to do so as well, for Aly had left her the space. Only the pureblood's obsession with Muggles had first introduced her to the concept of bisexuality, and the flag she now so loved; of course, it had been kissing @Evelynn Decipio and @Koko Riddle that had solidified Aly's knowledge of this part of herself, more so than any flag. Just because she had a male beau now in the form of @Kavi Kattimani did not mean that this feeling, this identity, was erased. The graduating seventh-year would continue to be proud of it, and of herself, for the rest of the foreseeable future, and then beyond that, too.

Hogwarts Pride Boat Parade
Lorelei had stumbled upon the parade prep largely by accident. She knew her way around the Hogwarts grounds well enough by the end of her first year to be quite practiced at locating the most efficient path, but in the later months she had taken to long winding detours when timeliness was not of the highest priority. One of her favourite detour trips was where she found herself today, the boathouse near the great lake.
The usual tranquil atmosphere was much different today, the typically sparse area occupied by a sea of students and intense displays of bright rainbow colors. She really needed to get more on top of the school’s announcements if she hadn’t known an event so large was occurring on the grounds. Oops.
A quick look around made the purpose of this gathering immediately clear. Students were decorating floats to be used in the pride parade happening the very next day. Lorelei made a mental note of that, ensuring she would remember to come back for the actual celebration. It definitely wasn’t something she wanted to miss, an opportunity to experience something she wouldn’t have the chance to see at home.
Pride wasn’t exactly a foreign concept for Lorelei, but not something she was intensely familiar with. She’d only really had one queer friend back home, a girl in a few of her dance classes. She’d come out as bisexual to the other girls at one point last year, prompting Lorelei to go down an intense google rabbit hole about what exactly all of the queer identities meant. Her own sexuality wasn’t something she really thought about much, she was 11 after all, and hadn’t even really had a crush on anyone, especially not the boys in her primary school.
Lorelei was dragged out of her head by the realization that she had been standing stationary next to a large group of people for a slightly unnerving amount of time. She glanced around quickly to ensure no one was staring at her, and was pleased to find that they were all to focused on their colorful endeavors to notice her.
She decided that the least odd thing for her to do at this point was walk through the people decorating their floats. She paused a few times to chat with students she recognised from courses but was largely focused on absorbing her environment.
As she walked, taking in the colors and flags, mentally noting each of the different identities represented in the floats, an unconscious smile was brought to her face. She stopped by one particular boat, a gradient from pink to tangerine, for a beat too long as her smile continued to grow. So nice, she thought to herself, that the people of this community can see themselves represented in a school wide event.
She left the boathouse area after completing her winding path through the decorators, the colors and noise still bounding around her brain. She was so excited for tomorrow. She just needed to find something sufficiently colorful to wear.

Though he noted the sudden movement on a a specific finger, his observation left it at that. Just a note. Perhaps it was because they haven't truly discussed things like this until recently, or the fact that they have been pretty much apart especially since 6th year - there was no story as of yet that Hanako could link her habit to.
" Controlled environment" he repeated, in the same careful tone, though without faltering. Still Hanako couldn't help but keep the tiniest smile on his face as he noted the way she used language. As if he had passed her a ball, which she returned in the same one in the same style. He couldn't help but admire it in a way. Just another similarity between them that he felt a sense of warmth from recognising. And instead of it being a sign to pull away, it only made him want to engage with her more.
" We're not some memberships trial thats going to expire" he says, gently though taking his eyes of her and onto the flowers instead, as if organizing them somehow organised his thoughts alongside with it. " I like the metaphor, but we're not sparks either". He takes some quiet to himself - not my choice. But from the race of his heart he tried to quell as he sorted how to explain a thousand things he wanted to tell her in a short sentence.
" I want out" he says, with a fondness to it that he couldn't quite believe he would be able to produce. The last time he such a word, it was with a plastered smile and an unfixable pit in his stomatch. Now though…. " I want out" he repeats, this time looking at her. " Of our prior arrangement. I don't want us to keep using eachother for whatever reason. I like hanging out and getting to know you." Wow once he told a truth it was like a string of them came out before he could stop himself. Each word his eyes started to waver between the flowers and her as if fighting his own shyness and the urge to run away. " I like the banters, and - I had.. well I felt like I had so many of those sorts of relationships with others but I've cut contact with all of them for the most part and I'm not interested in going back but with you, I … don't want to let go."
He felt the light tremor in his hands that he tries to hid under the bunch of flowers before trying to give her a weak grin. " I want to be friends. A fresh start, you know? Even after graduation. We might not be in the same jobs or area but you have my numbers, I have yours. We could text or call or plan something-"

Blue in English, Red in KoreanEun-ji let her conclusion settle between them while she kept her attention on the flowers. Her hands were perfectly steady now. Her heart was not. “We're not some memberships trial that’s going to expire.” Aren’t we though? Her brain immediately countered his claim but she swallowed the words just in time. There was no point in actually saying them aloud. Hana would be reminded of it soon enough. She would have to bid him goodbye eventually. Or, as it turned out, he would be the one to do it. Right now.
“I want out.” Three words. That was all it took. For one awful moment, the Ravenclaw forgot how to breathe. She was just thinking the end of their deal was creeping up upon them like an all-consuming shadow, but she didn’t expect it to happen today! She was not ready. First, she needed time to figure out how to lose the rogue without looking like she was losing anything at all. Albeit a bit messy and ill advised, their strange relationship was one of the few beautiful things, Eun-ji could still call hers. But now, even that was being snatched away from her without any warning. She was about to respond, praying that her voice would not tremble once she let it out, only Hana wouldn’t let her. Apparently, he was not done talking.
Oh… For a moment, her heart settled and she felt dizzy with relief. Then, his words truly sunk in and the little traitor went into overdrive once more. This time for an entirely different reason. So…he wasn’t ending their arrangement because he’d grown tired of her. He actually wanted to start anew? Without any pretense and hiding behind a well-crafted excuse that they were not to be taken seriously? Without rules to make it less frightening? And most importantly, he actually said she was special. Something Eun-ji had been hoping for but never believed possible. Alas, hope for more was a dangerous thing, and hers never lived long. Because the witch realized soon after, that Hana didn’t know what he was asking. He couldn’t know what awaited her beyond Hogwarts, what sort of future was already being shaped around her like iron bars. She wouldn’t drag him down with her. Until now, Eun-ji hoped for a bittersweet ending at least but it looked like she wouldn’t be granted even that much.
Unbeknown to her, the rose, currently sitting in her hand, paid the price for her darkening mood and was slowly being crushed between her slim fingers. Did the flower still have thorns? If it did, the Ravenclaw didn’t feel them bite her skin. The stabbing pain in her heart, caused by what she was about to do, was sharper than any thorn. “Good. That works perfectly.” Eun-ji said. Strangely enough, only then did she lift her head to look at the boy in front of her. It was because in this, she was confident. By now, she could be effortlessly cruel at the drop of a hat whenever she deemed it necessary. “Ending the arrangement I mean.” She made sure to clarify calmly.
The composure was safely back in place now but for once, the words were not coming easily to her. Usually, Eun-ji had no trouble saying exactly the right cruel thing to make herself so sharp and unlovely that people eventually decided she was not worth the trouble. Being easy to hate was a useful talent. It kept people from looking too closely. With Hana however, even that was difficult. The idea of hurting him in any capacity felt much less like a strike and more like cutting into her own skin. Truly, love made things a thousand times harder than they had any right to be.
“But I’m sorry. I do not intend to keep touch with any of my classmates after graduation.” There, she said it. Her voice was not cold, such sudden change would have been too suspicious, but it wasn’t warm either. It was gentle enough to pass for honesty yet flat enough to sound final. In the ideal scenario, she should have said you instead of classmates but she simply couldn’t bring herself to drive the knife that deep. “You are right about the fresh start but that’s as far as our plans align. My life is going to get quite busy and I can’t afford any distractions.” She would have alliances disguised as friendships but those would be carefully chosen for her and Eun-ji had a sneaking suspicion Hana, the cheeky impossible Hana, wouldn’t qualify. Besides, even if he did, it would be hardly something to be happy about. No. Eun-ji simply wouldn’t allow it.WC: 700+
