The feeling of excitement was overwhelming. It was all coming together- his first international hockey event was taking place in just a few short days. Patchway, England- it sounded so fancy and lovely. It was probably just because it was in England. A 12 hour flight with the rest of his hockey team was worth it, to be fair. They'd spent the first two days practicing and getting used to the ice. It was honestly not too terrible to get used to. What really sucked was the Jetlag.
His coach decided to let the team take a break today. They drove to Castle Cary, a beautiful historic town 45 minutes away from the hotel they were staying at. Percy and his teammate Josh delved into the farmers market, wandering around the booths and tables. Josh was probably the person he was closest with on the team, other than his own brother. Corbin got sick, rendering him unable to play with them this week. He was so upset, but there was no way to get around his strep throat.
Him and Josh had been friends since third grade. They were both on the same team, and their dads had sparked up conversation during practice. Percy Todd loved playing with him on the weekends. They lived just down the road from each other, which made it easy. Josh was pretty similar to him. They were both super talkative, and loved getting to hear each other yap up a storm. The flight over was a lovely break from this, they slept the whole time. It all started back up again when they landed though.
He eyed the stalls, humming to himself. He had on a green sweater- correction, jumper- he was in England now, and khaki shorts. His hair was tousled and messy, and his cheeks were pink from the humid air. He walked around with a pep in his step, grinning about. He had to try all of the tarts and teas! It was England after all, basically the tea capital of the world. Josh ran up to him, pastry in hand. "Omfh my gawsh-" he spoke with his mouth full, "fhis pashry-" It was wrapped in a white napkin, raspberry jelly folded into the flaky layers. Percy Todd eyed it for a moment, then snatched it out of Josh's hand. "Jesus! Save some for me why don't you-"
Percy took a bite, the tart jam hitting his taste buds first. His eyelids flew open, and he audibly gasped. He snapped his head around, gazing at the booths row after row. "Now Josh- I need you to tell exactly where this table is. I'm gonna need seventeen of these, stat." Josh cackled, smiling at his friend.
"It's just over there. Give it back and we'll go get some-" He reached for the pastry and Percy Todd yanked his arms back, clutching it close to him. He shook his head, eyes wide.
"Oh, absolutely not. You won't get this pastry unless you can peel it out of my cold, dead, fingers!" He laughed, taking another bite and dodging as his friend lunged forward. He shot up, running around the old brick street towards a grassy hill. He turned around, smiling. He lost sight of Josh, and sighed, plopping down into the supple foliage. He had his wand in his shorts, in the lovely pocket he had his classmate stitch for him. It was so convenient to have it. Too bad he couldn't use magic outside of school. Having it nearby felt comforting, however. Even despite how confusing it was.
He made sure Josh was for sure somewhere else and took another bite, smiling around. England really was such a lovely country. He could see why so many people loved it here. His knees were sore, and he tucked them underneath himself, sighing deeply. Josh jogged over, another tart in his hands. "Since you're such a little dick-"
"Hey-" Percy Todd threw his hands up, dimples showing up on his cheeks as he smiled, "don't be so uptight. Take a deep bref why doncha- have a lovely cup of tea-" He said the last sentence in a terrible British accent, and cackled.
