How problematic can it be?
Samuel J. 'Fire' Davies . First Year . Hufflepuff ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
A low rattle, almost like a white noise, was all the boy could hear as he absentmindedly rolled his pencil back and forth across the hardwood top of his desk. It was slightly rickety and uneven, the poor utensil had been bitten and chewed, the metal was all peeled from Fire's bright idea one day to "sharpen" the eraser, only for it to be long forgotten and the cost of a broken dollar store sharpener. He tried to recall what color it was, blue? orange? Fire couldn't put his finger on it, only that it was the shape of some sort of fish, a piranha or whale maybe? The boy's ear's perked, as he tuned back into the lesson he still found himself in, he had completely zoned out, snapping back to reality only by the professor's dismissal.
Finally. The boy thought to himself as he pushed himself away from the desk with an unsatisfying screech, throwing his bad over his shoulder as he made his way out of the classroom. Perring from the corner of his dark maroon eyes at the students who slowly approached the professor, pffffft, suck-ups, Fire laughed to himself stuffing the half crumbled paper into his still opened bag as he entered into the corridors. Well, that was the last class, the Hufflepuff blinked bored-ly watching the halls begin to empty out in record-breaking pace, thought there was still quite a few students straggling about.
He itched his ear with his pinkie as he lazily strutted through the (almost) free real estate, man I wish it was this empty ALL the time... or maybe not. Because what came with less people was the unfortunate situation of death caused by the lack of events across the campus, and he didn't feel like going to the Hogwarts's table at the moment, especially since he wasn't hungry after stuffing him stomach greedily from ever snack he could get his hands on. Before he knew it, his legs had carried him to the great outdoors, early-summer, which was a painful mixture of a searing sun and the humidity from constant raining.
Fire had already gotten a sunburn on his cheeks and shoulders from playing rugby with a few students during previous the weekend, or maybe it was from the all day swimming that other time...? It was safe to say it was from one of his activities on the grounds of the wizardry school. He continued to let his feet drag through the uneven ground as he noticed the approaching greenhouses, he had had a few classes there for Herbology, it was for sure an interesting class. But in his opinion, not the best, or not his best considering he had to get a tutor, @Oliver Armani, to help him because of his lowering grade. It had helped some, but it definitely gave him a bit of distaste towards the course.
The Hufflepuff squinted his eyes and scrunched his face against the glowering rays, it was now afternoon so the sun was now in the uncomfortable spot in which it was almost eye-level, blinding you at every given opportunity. That's when he small speck in the distance approaching the greenhouse, it was a girl dressed in Hufflepuff robes with pale gold hair. Suddenly an idea popped into his head, mischievous, devious even as he smiled to himself. Maybe it was both, but he didn't care, as all he saw was a sure-fire cure (pun intended) way to solve the illness of boredom.
Without a second thought the boy quickly made his descent down the grassy ledge of the hill he had taken a stance on moments before, "HEY YOU, WAIT A MOMENT!" Fire called out with a loud serious tone as he caught up, he puffed out his chest as he narrowed his eyes. "What are you up to? You know it's after hours for class right? So what are you doing?" The Hufflepuff said wagging his finger towards her in a feigned scolding, his eyebrows knitted together, tapping his foot in impatience.

How problematic can it be?

Fire sat, well rather stood in front of his fellow student, eyes narrowed into sharp slips, his upper lip pulling slightly into a sneer of some sort. The girl in response to Fire knitted her eyebrows together, her turn to assess the situation, as the Hufflepuff looked at him. Was she sizing him up ? Well he could win a fight eaisily if that was what she was thinking, the boy thought to himself tilting his head, his misconceptions running rampant though his mind.
Instead of bringing up her fists to fight, she instead tucked a loose strand behind her ear, eyes still filled with something akin to the way a detective would profile a criminal.
"Are you a prefect?" She asked, her voice a soft soothing tone, inviting and fairy-like.
The boy quirked an eyebrow, her voice oddly matched her perfectly, but as if the personality matched the books cover was something that was yet to be discovered within this interaction.
Fire smirked slightly, a grin almost borderline eerie with the way it reached so far up his face.
"Yes," Fire said simply, shifting his weight from one foot to the other, running a hand through his short black hair. "as a matter of fact I am, the name is Fire kid, don't wear it out."
Fire said bringing a thumb directly to his chest in introduction, and really his words were wonly half a lie. He was a prefect, but just not a current one, he had done the whole shabang in only first year. Tours around the campus, detention, events for students, and all the stuff and responsiblilites. But again, that had been the past, he was no longer a Hufflepuff prefect, he had been stripped of that role months ago. So again it was half a truth, withholding information for his own beneficial amusement.
The girl walked up, her eyes scanning across his robes and attire, searching for something, or more so something that it lacked entirely. Their was a hint of challenge in her, that Fire found intriguing in comparison to her rather gentle flourished appearance. He just scrunched his nose up by the proximity. The Hufflepuff was about to speak up when the other beat him to it.
“As far as I know, looking doesn't hurt anyone. And I don't recall reading any rule that says it's forbidden to be curious. Although I admit the Hogwarts rulebook is quite long. Perhaps I skipped that part.” She said her hands clasped together like those little angel glass statues that your grandma would fill shelves with.
Fire put his hands up in mock defense. "hey, I didn't say anything was wrong with that kid," The boy tilted his head to listen. "I'm only asking what you're planning to do all the way out here, with no professors around, at the greenhouse, unsupervised." He quirked an eyebrow, that said c'mon you know that's suspicious , despite her feigned innocence.
"I was just looking at the plants. My grandfather always says that the best collections begin with observing before touching. And you? Were you watching the greenhouse or just looking for someone to bother?" The girl also tilted her head, making the two look somewhat like meerkats in a debate. "Because if it was an attempt to scare me, I must say it almost worked. Although I think a prefect would have started by asking my name before scolding me."
"Not this prefect, I don't really care what you're doing, I just wanna be in on it, so probably the latter," the boy said scratching his nostril, and gently picking at the skin, flicking off whatever from his fingers afterwards as he spoke. "Boredom is the worse disease of our generation, also any kid with two eyes could see that someone peering through the greenhouse isn't the best idea, eh?"
This girl was good, Fire wouldn't be surprised if she hadn't gotten away with nearly anything she attempted, just say a few nice words and she gets away with murder, because who would believe she would do anything wrong?
"So you gonna tell.me your name, or do I have to start calling you ms. eggs on toast?"
Fire smirked at that, this had turned out more interesting, filling the gap of boredom with amusement.
"So… Mr. “Prefect,” what's going on? Are you going to accuse me? Should I run?"
"Hmm, good options I should say," the boy said scratching his chin feigning extreme thought, before raising his finger as if having an epiphany. "In my grand high opinion, I say no running, because I'll join you. Or supervise you—" Fire said opening the door geturing for her to go first. "Ladies first."

When he confirmed, with such certainty, that he was a prefect, the young girl let the answer settle in her mind for a few moments. Her eyes drifted almost involuntarily down to the chest of the boy's robes, searching for the silver badge that every prefect wore with pride. It wasn't there. This brought a small, barely perceptible smile to her face. She said nothing, but neither did she point it out. As Fire continued talking, shifting his weight from one foot to the other with an almost rehearsed ease,
"How curious..." she murmured softly. "I always imagined prefects wore a badge." It wasn't necessarily an accusation, more of an observation. The boy's reply came wrapped in jokes, half-explanations, and that carefree tone he seemed to use for almost everything. The more he spoke, the more obvious it became that he enjoyed provoking small reactions in others. He didn't seem dangerous. Just... unbearably amused by himself. When he suggested that anyone would find someone watching a greenhouse unsupervised suspicious, Stelle let out a short laugh. “I suppose you’re right. But I wasn’t planning on doing anything more than watching, don’t worry.”
Then came the outlandish nickname, “Ms. Eggs on Toast? What kind of nickname is that?” She wrinkled her nose and crossed her arms. “My name is Stelle, Prefect Fire.”
Stelle held Fire’s gaze for barely a moment longer before turning her eyes to the door, acknowledging the gesture with an almost imperceptible nod. She wasn’t convinced. There was something about him that felt too relaxed, too willing to play along, as if he enjoyed letting people guess what was true and what wasn’t. It wasn’t exactly reassuring. Still, she took the first step.
The greenhouse door creaked open, and the warm, humid air enveloped her immediately. The change in temperature sent shivers down her spine. The scent of damp earth, leaves, and unfamiliar flowers was intense, almost suffocating. Light streamed through the glass roof in greenish beams, filtered by a tangle of vines that transformed the place into a small jungle.
And then, suddenly, panic. It wasn't a dramatic or noisy fear. It arrived silently, tightening around her chest like an invisible hand. Her breath became shallow as her eyes scanned every corner of the greenhouse with almost desperate speed. Too many plants. Too many leaves where something could be hiding. Thick stems, enormous pots, flowers that seemed to be watching her. Any shadow could conceal a spider the size of her hand, a sleeping snake, or some magical creature she'd never heard of.
She remained motionless for barely a second, just long enough for her fingers to unconsciously search for the sleeve of her robe and grip it tightly. What a terrible thought. She had come here convinced she would find a quiet place to observe some flowers, but seeing them behind glass was completely different. Now she just wanted to make sure nothing was moving among the pots. She inhaled slowly, forcing herself to regain control. She wasn't going to give Fire the satisfaction of seeing her bolt out the door she'd just walked through. She pressed her lips together before continuing to walk, this time with an almost comical caution, making sure to leave as much distance as possible between herself and any plant that seemed even slightly suspicious. If one of them moved of its own accord, she was convinced that her dignity would be the first casualty of the day.
She loved plants, as long as they weren't some screaming, root-bound baby. She'd heard of mandrakes more times than she'd care to admit, and to say they didn't give her the creeps was a blatant lie. But she was already inside, and this guy didn't seem like the type to leave things unfinished.
