Erik noted it was a natural mannerism to be this gentleman-like. Fyriel was usually a bit more familial but she could guess someone who was raised in a Pure-blood family had a reputation to keep up. He told her he was from Norway. She did notice he spoke with a certain accent but she was terrible at analysing them so she didn't try to guess which country it was from. "Norway? You're a long way from home. You must miss it.", she interrupted with a hint of sadness and empathy in her voice. Erik had opened his mouth as to begin a new sentence but instead stopped there.

Whilest she explained who Madonna was, she saw a sudden movement from Erik. Did I say something wrong? Are singers a taboo in his family? No, that's just dumb. Something must've caused his sudden choking in his drink. For a split second she thought she saw something in his eyes. As if they were trying to say something. He didn't interrupt her even though he probably wanted to. He was brought up polite enough not to do that. Fyriel had no clue she had a Slytherin in front of her who was the absolute opposite of fond of half-bloods. Tharaldson attempted to sound interested by her explanation of the singer in the muggle-world. He did ask about her personal life, he seemed more intrigued to figure her out than to actually get to know her personally. Perhaps she was just a mystery for him to solve. Fyriel went with it. He wanted to solve her puzzle, then that's what she would give him.

"I'm from a small town Theris in England. Nobody ever knows where it is so I won't bother trying to map it out for you. I live there with my dad, he's a pureblood, and my muggleborn mum. I also have a younger sister but she's still too young to inroll in Hogwarts.", she revealed. "Besides that we live in a muggle-part of England, it doesn't affect us at all. I mean, in the shops we pay with muggle coins and we can't apparate anywhere, which is a shame. It takes so frikking long to go from point A to B by car..." She gazed at Erik while she enthousiastically told him more about her life. Hopefully she had satisfied his curiousity about the muggle-world. Fyriel assumed he didn't mind she is a half-blood seeing as he asked her more about it. If he didn't want to have anything to do with half-bloods, he wouldn't have stayed around much longer would he? Let alone quiz her about muggles.

She looked down at the half-empty cup of hot milk. She held the cup in her hands and rested them on her crossed legs. The grass was already drier than before. The hot milk was not so hot anymore but compared to the cold air around them, it was still a nice source of warmth. A cold shiver passed through Fyriel as the cold started to take effect on her. She covered one of her arms with the opposite hand and caressed it to try and warm herself up. Her action didn't last long because she didn't want to seem like a whimp in front of Erik, who was only wearing thin T-shirt.

She quickly peeked up to see Erik. He had a friendly but not expressive smile on his face. She immediately looked back down to her cup. Inside her head there was a big debate going on about whether she would dare to ask him about his eyes. She probably shouldn't but she couldn't help herself, he could possibly have the same talents as she had. The Huffle girl decided to take the daring route once more and asked him her question. With a curious and insecure voice and facial expression, she asked him;" Can I ask... why you have such green eyes?". She felt unsure whether to go on as if she were treading on thin ice and paused. After taking a breath she continued;" It's just... They are very... hypnotic. Yes, that's the word I was looking for. I mean I like them very much. I have bright eyes myself as you probably already saw..." She babbled in a fast pace as if she wanted to get it over with. Like pulling off a band-aid. "Of course, you don't have to talk about it if you would rather not. I won't feel offended if you don't have to share all your life stories with me. We have only just met...", Fyriel added with a sincere look of regret in her, she was trying to apologise telepathically but alas she didn't inheret a talent like that.

Fyriel stated that he had to miss Norway. It wasn't a question it was a statement. The boy's his eyes went wide for a second before he could mask his emotions. As much as Erik liked to hide it, he did incredibly miss it. Oh, how he longed for the vacations, so he could go back to be with his family and upper class friends. Go hiking through the mountains, enjoy the lush green forests with trees that reach as far as the eye can see. He stopped reminiscing about his home and simply nodded in response. My, my aren't we perceptive. Erik took a mental note of this particular trait.

Asking about her Muggleness had been in hindsight a mistake. As Fyriel explained how they were forced to use other means of transportation then apparation, she had completely and utterly lost him. Erik couldn't fake being interested in her Muggle part anymore. He had actually tried, for once, to keep his attention on the subject, but if Erik was completely honest he couldn't imagine a life without magic. It seemed so strange and hollow. How could they do it? What drives a wizard of a respected and pure lineage to marry a mere, simple, plain and honestly daft Muggle? Was it a statement? A form of rebellion perhaps? How hard the pureblood tried he couldn't for the life of him figure out the answers to his many questions. He pondered for a second to flat out ask her about it, but he quickly dismissed it as not an option. Erik was raised better than that. As he had been so lost in thought he suddenly noticed that Fyriel had stopped talking. The young man had no clue what she had said the last couple of minutes. So, he decided to just wing it. Well, that seems like quite the hassle now doesn't it? The transportation for Muggles that is. It seems quite an interesting? Yeah, interesting place the Muggle world. The pureblood had no idea what more to add so he hastily smiled at her.

Erik followed her lead and downed the last remains of his not so hot chocolate milk. A little wind had taken hold of the Great Lake. He allowed himself to simply close his eyes, letting his head fall back whilst taking in the scents surrounding him and lose himself in it. Just for a bit., he told himself. The grass, the chocolate milk, everything seemed so fresh. It was a good start of the day he dared say he rather enjoyed himself and to add things up the company wasn't half too bad. When he opened his eyes and looked at Fyriel he simply chuckled. You're one who rather dresses to impress then for the weather don't you? A playful tone was noticeable in his voice.

As the Lonesome Badger peeked up at him she looked down as quickly again. Staring at the inside of her cup. Like she was going to predict his future. When she spoke others not gifted with a heightened hearing would have had to strain themselves to hear her ask her question, but not Erik. He heard her as perfect as she would be speaking at a normal volume. Erik simply laughed out loud. Well, thank you! You aren't the first girl to be "hypnotised" by my eyes. I'm glad you like them. As you might know they are the only pair I have. Yours aren't half too bad either. He winked at her as he continued and a charming, if not brash, smile played on his lips. However, I'm not sure what you mean with your particular question. It's not like I have a say in the matter what the color and brightness of my eyes are. The werewolf, his eyes threw her a confused look as he was as much taken aback by her brashness as her oddness.

Fyriel’s new acquaintance seemed spooked when she spoke about him missing his home. He tried to disguise his homesickness, but Fyriel could recognize that feeling on anyone. She felt sorry for him. She was the type of girl who liked to comfort people and make them happier, like a true Hufflepuff. Not being able to rid Erik of his yearning for home made her feel powerless. He simply nodded in reply. Clearly he would rather not talk about his home or family. He’s not like me who starts chattering about her family to anyone. Obviously she should have thought twice and kept her mouth about her Muggleness, as Erik labelled it. He absently answered that it seemed an interesting place, Fyriel didn’t fall for that though. “If you don’t want to hear it, don’t ask about it…”, Fyriel judged in her thoughts. Fyriel could have gone on about her hometown and told Erik about all the magical creatures they care for. However, she knows when people aren’t interested in her stories so her sentence slowly faded into silence.

Her attempt in covering up that she started to feel cold hadn’t worked as well as she had hoped. Erik had seen her rubbing her arm and teased her about it. “I don’t care about impressing anyone actually”, she scoffed in response. “I do what I want, when I want, with whom I please.”, Fy sneered at him with an amused twinkle in her eyes.

Fyriel was right. She shouldn’t have asked him about his eyes after all. Oh this is bad, this is very bad. She felt cornered now. How was she going to change the subject without making Erik suspicious about her questions. Erik laughed when he heard her compliment about his hypnotizing eyes. Fyriel rolled her eyes at him and tilted her head back as she laughed at his comment;“ Yes, I’m sure there have been plenty girls who told you that. Thanks though. I wouldn’t trade them for anything.” She tried her best to camouflage her reasons for inquiring about his eye colour. “Oh, I didn’t mean anything by it. I was simply curious if you’ve always had such snake green eyes.” Fyriel saw the confused look on his face and decided she could better leave the subject alone. “You’re right, it’s not like we can pick or change our eye colour… or any other trait for that matter”, she nervously expressed, in a desperate way to hide her mistake. Please, change the subject. Please, please, please.

Instead, Fyriel took the lead in the conversation and asked him if he liked magical creatures. “We have lots of several creatures at home. It’s almost like a zoo.”, she giggled. Just take the bait and pretend like I never asked about your eyes. Fyriel felt a pain in her leg from sitting in the same position for too long. She took a last sip from her cup of chocolate milk. Swallowing the chocolatey remains from the bottom of the cup, she winced from the huge of amount of sweetness on her tongue. She returned the cup to her bag together with the book she had meant to read this morning but had put aside when the Slytherin boy came along. While uncrossing her legs, she carefully let her upper body fall backwards onto the grass. She laid down and placed her bag under her head to let it rest there. Then she turned her head and looked in Erik’s venomous green peepers.

The peculiar feeling she had the first time she saw them had returned. Why does it feel like there is something more to this boy? I can’t put my finger on it… yet. I’ll figure him out in time, I’m good at solving mysteries. She turned her gaze to the clouds above her. The sun had decided to peek through every now and then. Fyriel closed her eyes for a little while to take in the warmth of sunrays on her face. "I could do this more often”, she stated satisfied. When she woke up this morning, she wouldn’t have guessed she was going to pick nick with a highborn Slytherin from Norway, who on one hand charmed and intrigued her. On the other hand, made her feel like she wanted to slap some sense into him, especially when it came to half-bloods. She didn’t care anymore if he hated her for it or not. He’ll come around. I’ll show him I’m just as worthy of being in Hogwarts as he is.

As he had merely nodded at her remark about him missing his homeland, she kept looking at him with those intrusive bright purple eyes. She kept looking at him. Erik wanted for the first time to just disappear. Don't get him wrong though. He loved attention in all of its forms except for this particular one. It made him uneasy as of she looked right through him. For all he knew she could and that was a very scary thought. One he couldn't allow to cripple him. Well, there are two who can play this game. He glanced at her and locked eyes. Erik wouldn't back down from anyone. Not today, not ever. He had to take back control of the situation. This was his twisted and desperate attempt at it.

The werewolf's ears perked up as her volume became more silent towards the ending of her sentence. The perceptive young woman had read him yet again like an open book. How is she doing this?!, Erik wondered. Can you read minds or something? Wait, what if she can? Quick think about something else! Anything really! Euhm, let's see. That rock looks like a... Nice rock? The pureblood decided to keep his focus on said rock for now.

Fyriel had decided to join in with the friendly banter and warned him with somewhat of a twinkle in her eyes that she didn't care about his opinion and that she for one was her own woman. Oh, I have no doubt about that. I rue the day of the person who would test this theory. I for one wouldn't dare!, he said with a dramatically feighned innocence that seemed almost unbecoming of him. Erik was glad to see she was such a good sport.

Nice try there, Missy! If it were anyone else, but me you might have fooled me. Not this time, however. You had my curiosity, but now. Oh, now you have my full and undivided attention., he thought. I have to say I lost count of the amount of girls who said it. Can you blame me? To answer your question. Yes, I've always had these eyes. Does this mean you didn't always have purple eyes? That would explain a lot as I haven't met anyone with this eye color.

She looked him straight in the eyes. It was almost like she was trying to read his mind again. So, Erik broke the eye contact before she could do her hocus-pocus. When she stated she could do this more the pureblood spoke. I agree. This is nice. In fact, I don't think I ever had a conversation this long with a Huffle before. Let alone have an actual conversation with one. So feel free to feel special about that fact, Lonesome Badger., he joked at her.

Erik seemed resolute to see inside Fyriel’s soul. Or that’s what it felt like to her at least. She sensed he stared at her on purpose. Like he wanted to prove something. She wasn’t going to lose at this game. Erik was persistent on keeping eye contact. The fascinated Hufflepuff couldn’t help it, her lips slowly curled into a smile. She found it ridiculous how hard he tried to keep his attention on her, as if she would flee the second she left his sight. Fyriel felt like prey, the mark of Erik’s burning green eyes.

It was a joyful experience either way. Friendly mockery and staring competitions. Is this what friends usually do? Taunt each other and talk about home? Well, at least one of us did that. Fyriel wondered if she had made a friend that day. She thought so at least. Perhaps the Slytherin wasn’t completely aware of this fact yet but she was willing to ignore his foolish preconception about Half-bloods and Muggles to make this work. She was persistent to change his mind about them. About Her.

A chuckle escaped from Fyriel when Erik confessed, in a theatrical voice, that he had no intent of testing her principals about independence. “So you should. The day you treat me any less than I am would be your last”, she threatened him, before she winked and a grin appeared on her face. Don’t mess with this badger, snakeboy. “HA! You’re a tad full of yourself aren’t you?”, Fyriel answered, in a playful tone, when Erik piled on about his popularity among the female students. What came next was exactly what she was trying to avoid. He directed his attention to her former question about his eye colour. Crap. How do I get out of this one? I could tell him my secret but I’m not certain if I can trust him already. Plus, if he knows others will definitely find out as well. She decided to wing it and conjure up a lie. A hazardous and no doubt, transparent move seeing as he had caught her in one before. “No, I’ve always had them like this. It’s just that, you know, Hogwarts, magical creatures… You never know what someone could be hiding. I was just curious”, Fyriel stated. After she finished her sentence, she bit her lip and her fingers twitched a little. Her eyes didn’t look away from Erik, she wanted to be sure he believed her. Don’t look away, you have to come through sure about yourself. If I believe the lie, he’ll believe it too. Trying her best to remember the lessons she got from her dad about hiding her secret, Fyriel wished deeply she was convincing enough.

Fyriel’s eyes had closed to enjoy the moment when Erik acknowledged he was enjoying himself too. With disbelief and surprise in her voice Fyriel replied:"You’ve honestly never talked to a Hufflepuff before?! Why?”. Teasingly she added: ”Are you scared? We don’t bite ,you know. Not all of us anyhow.”A small pauze. “To be honest, I hadn’t talked to any Slytherins before you either”,she confessed with a frown. “So in fact, you should feel special too. I even gave you hot chocolate, see? We badgerbloods aren’t so bad, are we?", she hinted at Erik. She made a humming sound to show she was thinking about something. Suddenly Fyriel rolled on her side with her arm resting on her hand to keep it off the grass. A big, white smile emerged on her face and she spoke; “I think I’ll call you… snake eyes from now on. Yep, that’s a good one.”

For another unexplainable reason that defied every logic she seemed to smile at him as he stared her down. What's so funny?, he wondered. Did I do something? Can she actually read minds?! What was I thinking? Oh, no! I have something on my face don't I? Erik stopped staring at her as he tried to control his thoughts. Get a grip of yourself, man! You're losing it in front of this half-blood! With that, he started to control his breath as he tried to slow down his heartbeat. When he dared look at her he narrowed his eyes into slits. What's your deal, Lonesome Badger? What are you up to? I'll figure you out in time. Just you wait., he vowed in silence. Erik followed her lead as he returned the smile. He was going to mimic her behaviour. Hoping this would somehow buy him at least some insight into her or at the very least time to figure her out. This was somewhat amusing he loved a good mystery now and then and this was no exception.

An eyebrow quirked up in response to her first remark. Is that so, my little half-blood? Well, well... As she went on to talk about his ego, he couldn't resist a sincere chuckle and smile. Well, I sure am. I won't deny that, however, it's all true. I'm popular with the ladies. I can't say I blame them. It's hard to resist my charming self, if I may say so myself. That familiar playful tone appeared again. Erik, didn't mind, boasting about himself. He had earned that right and it wasn't like he was exaggerating. If anything he was being real and somewhat playful. Just like that, his eyes grew wide at her hinting about people not being who they try or appear to be. Do you know?, he wondered. But, how? How in the world is that possible? I was so careful! Did I slip up? The werewolf pondered about this fact for a moment. No, there's no possible way and then it hit him. What if you are talking about yourself? He analyzed the at the first looking plain and almost boring looking girl in front of him. Could it be or am I imagining things? Erik was going to keep an eye on her. She had his unwavering attention. He would observe her closely from now on. Nothing would escape him. Not if he could help it. At long last he spoke: Yes. Yes, I suppose you're right.

As the conversation moved on Erik simply shrugged. I never felt the need to talk to one of you lot before. No offence, but the overly joyous types that seem to be the bulk of your house aren't my type of crowd you know? As she went on to tease him he nodded. Well, it seems like we're in the same boat then! I hope I sparked a curiosity to seek out more of my fellow house members., he winked at her. Snake eyes, huh? I don't think I ever received a nickname before. I kinda like that one.

Fyriel wasn't overly fond of narcissists but said trait in this particular student hadn't caused her to back away. The opposite in fact, he intrigued her. He's seriously bragging about himself, isn't he... Once again Fyriel had the urge to roll her eyes at him but waved the feeling away and didn't. Instead she shook her in disbelief as to say she had no clue what to say to his gloating.

The Hufflepuff girl wondered still, did Erik fall for her lie? "Of course he did, I'm a master at hiding things!", she told herself in her head. He's been straightforward and to the point all morning. There's no reason he wouldn't confront me, is there? Fyriel imagined Erik's reason for why he would not confront her if that was the case.
Perhaps he doesn't care enough if I was lying or or not. Or, he actually believed me? However, his eyes had grown big at the moment she deceived him. Did he know? Could he tell she was untruthfull or was she simply being paranoid?

A shiver passed through Fyriel's body. Not from the cold but because she felt nervous about whether or not she had blown her cover. She'll have to be careful from now on and monitor the Slytherin with the venomous green eyes.

"Yeah, I get that some Huffles seem a bit...much. I'm not the most social person myself like most of them. I'm usually comfortable by myself. However I do believe sometimes they are misunderstood. I think badgers act very happy and energetic even if they are having the worst day. There's been plenty hurt going around and they are trying to shine a light in other people's lives so they won't feel the pain as much. Even on a day where Huffles don't believe in that themselves, I think they still try their best to not let it show. Because God forbid a hufflepuff feeling awful. The world would stop turning... You see it's often the ones with the most laughs that the feel the least happy."

As Fyriel explained her point of view to Erik, she was startled by her own words. She didn't think she could talk this open to someone she had just met. Fyriel thought about the events that morning and wondered if that was the same reason Erik didn't want to talk about his home or family. Perhaps he's hurting too much to talk about them. She didn't want to be intrusive so decided to change the subject once more. What do slytherins love talking about? Besides their selves then... Ah! How lesser than them muggles are!
Fyriel thus continued: "You seem like a fine Slytherin yourself but I don't think all of your fellow house members would be eager to talk to a Half Blood Hufflepuff. Am I right Snake Eyes?", She nodded towards the boy and expected him to feel like she stepped on his toes. That will hopefully take his mind off his homesickness for a while.

His smile only broadened as she shook her head at him just boasting about himself. Oh, you know it's right. You're still sitting here aren't you? So it must be true. Erik winked at her as he chuckled at his own joke. Fyriel seemed to have something on her mind. Like she was brooding on something. Whatever it was she kept it to herself. Which didn't sit well with the Slytherin boy. His thoughts started to wonder once more.

What if she does know? If she is in fact a monster. She should be able to recognise another monster right? It would only make sense after all. It takes one to know one. But what are you? Certainly not a werewolf. If that was the case I would've recognised it by now and you have no visible scars on your person... At least not as far as I can see... With that, he took a mental note to keep in mind that she might have scars in less visible places like himself.

As she started speaking again Erik got pulled out of his wandering mind and had to keep his focus on what was happening in the here and now. Fyriel had become very serious in a matter of seconds. The werewolf did not expect such deep confession and it had him visibly startled for a moment. When he opened up his mouth, he closed it again as his brow furrowed into a frown. He had no idea how to properly react to this. As he opened his mouth, he struggled to answer her. That was... Unexpected to say the least, but very upright and sadly very true I'm afraid. But some people prefer not to burden others with their own problems as they not wish to bother them with it. However, it's admirable for those few people who dare ask for help when needed.

All of a sudden the conversation had taken another completely unexpected turn out of nowhere. It seemed like Erik wasn't the only one struggling with such a serious topic. Well, I'll say you're not wrong. You have elitists like myself, but then you have... Others, who don't mind this fact indeed. Does that bother you? If anything could be said about Erik it was that he was brutally honest. A trait that spoke volumes of the person he was.

“Sure, sure.”, Fyriel answered in an ironic tone. “It MUST be true”, she laughed at Erik. The Slytherin student’s reaction to her former statement about Hufflepuffs was in line with her own. Something they agreed on. “I don’t think it’s always a burden to others, not to Badgers anyway. All they want is to help people, and if there is nothing they can do, the least they try is to listen to those want to tell.”
Fyriel pondered a moment over Erik’s confession. He asked her if it bothers her that he prefers hanging out with purebloods instead of tainted wizards or witches. In not so many words of course, but she understood what he meant. “Hmm, it’s not that black and white for me. I don’t mind what you prefer, we all have our own opinions and principals. But for me it’s different. I don’t look at which house someone is in or what bloodline they come from. No person can be the exact same as their entire family. Would that mean, if I know you that I also know your dad, brother, and cousin? I don’t think so. Sometimes you need to give people the benefit of the doubt”, Fyriel explained to Erik. She wasn’t angry or upset, she had an objective point of view and instead of trying to change Erik’s mind, she tried to explain the facts, instead of her subjective opinion. She was calm in fact, she had never felt so at ease talking this topic. Never would she have imagined to talk to a pureblood about this, especially one who didn’t seem to have the same open mind she had. “But I guess that’s a Hufflepuff for you, accepting of all. Even the worst kind”, she spoke as she raised her brows and turned her head in the boy’s direction. A grin appeared on her face as they were back to a more playful mood. “I don’t expect you to see sense in this, seeing as you’re a Slytheirn and all.", she added in a theatrical way and waved her hands around to further exaggerate her remark. She purposely called him out as to make her point about stereotypes and prejudgements. Hopefully I didn’t cross a line here and he knows I’m just joking around.
Fyriel’s eyes followed a Ravenclaw student crossing the grounds, far away from their location. The student had hands full of books and ran towards the school entrance. All of a sudden Fyriel remembered she had classes to go to. She had been living in her own little world all morning and had been so focussed on her new acquaintance, she had completely forgotten about the fact she was at school. Bloody Gobstones! I need to go! Without telling the Tharaldson boy what crossed her mind, she quickly started packing her things into her bag. Right I should probably explain and not simply run off. “Uhm, I have to go now, Erik. I’m not running away from you if that’s what you think”, she joked. “I forgot I have class and I don’t want to be late!” If I get there earlier than the rest I can discuss something with the professor before class starts. Fyriel stood up and turned around to face Erik. She held out her hand to him and spoke: "It was nice meeting you Snake Eyes. You’re always welcome for a hot chocolate if you feel like it! Enjoy your day and...”, she paused. Then smirked and squinted her eyes; “Stay out of trouble.” She had a strong feeling he liked to stir things up and cause hammock wherever he went. The hufflepuff girl walked off in a hurried pace towards the classrooms and chuckled to herself. She was content with her morning, it wasn’t what she expected when she got up but nonetheless, she had done her best to socialize and a bizarre feeling in her gut told her something good would come out of this. Perhaps even an unexpected friendship. Fyriel told herself to remember to keep an eye on the Slytherin, in case he had figured out her secret and planned to tell someone.

Erik was glad to see the Huffle was such a good sport and willing to react to his playful banter the way she did. As she went on to further explain her thoughtproces on the serious topic the Slytherin listened intently. Trying to read between the lines and looking for hidden messages, if there were any at all. Sadly for him there weren't or he must've missed them. Of course, you would think that. You're bloody tainted as well., was the first thing on his mind. The pureblood couldn't help it. It was after all who he was. It was very well ingrained in his DNA. Every fiber of his being screamed it. However, to the outside, he looked stoic. A trait he had inherited from his father. Only those closest to him or those who knew him well enough by now were able to peer through his mask and see his most private of thoughts.

Erik simply nodded at her. When she got back into her playful mood he allowed himself to form a small smile. Can't blame a person for trying after all., he quickly chirped jokingly. However, something had solidified for him. They would never agree on this kind of stuff. Their worlds differed too much from one another. She couldn't possibly comprehend what a big deal it was for him to even talk to a halfblood like her. Would a possible friendship be in the making here or would it strand because of the fact they didn't see eye to eye on this fact? Only time would tell.

Suddenly she looked away from him. Her eyes grew wide and she jumped up and hastily picked up her belongings. It looked as if she had seen a ghost. All that was missing was her skin color growing pale. As she turned back towards him she hastily told him she was late for her class. Well, go on then what are you waiting for? Be gone! When she told him to stay out of trouble he chuckled. Me? Causing trouble? Never! A mischievous grin and a glint in his eyes told her quite the opposite. As Fyriel made her way across the grounds he yelled behind her: Good luck in class, Lonesome Badger. See you around!
