Wisteria stepped inside Flourish and Blotts and looked around in awe. Finally, a place where she felt comfortable and could just sit down and read. She wandered along the aisles and aisles of books. Big books, small books, books with no titles, books that looked like they were about to eat you... it was Wisteria's dream. She took a couple of books from the shelves and looked at the titles, debating if she wanted to read them or not.
Actually, I don't mind reading any of these... they all look so interesting.
She opened a book called From Egg to Inferno: A Dragon Keeper's Guide. Wisteria was interested in dragons, so she started reading the book. It was very detailed, with lots of examples and step-by-step instructions. She loved it.
After she finished that book, she started searching for another one to read. She eventually found one with a red cover and three gold faces on it. The title was The Philosophy of the Mundane.
Seems interesting, Wisteria thought. She reverently took the book from the shelf and opened it. It was about why muggles choose to ignore magic. Wisteria loved books like this, ones that dived deep into psychology and why people think what they think.

Jay had spent all day out in the rain while shopping for her school supplies and now, finally she had a moment to sit and breathe. She walked into Flourish and Blotts, half expecting it to be quiet but no. It was filled to the brim with students and parents buying books for the next school year.
Maybe there's a better spot to look for books at the back...
Jay headed towards the back of the shop, pushing past adults and kids alike, some her age some older."Oi watch it" someone muttered to her left as she squeezed through. Eventually after what felt like hours, Jay managed to get to a quiet space where she could look through books.
She was mainly looking for herbology books, on magical or normal herbs. Jay had a fascination surrounding plants and their medicinal properties, she believed that sometimes herbs could be even more interesting than magic itself, they could heal in ways modern wizarding and muggle medicine couldn't and Jay found it fascinating.
Finding books on magical herbs in a magical bookstore was easy enough, but finding ones on just normal herbs? Not a simple task, Jay was stuck scouring the shelves for a good hour before she found an interesting book. Muggle Herbs and Their Properties was the title of the book. It was old and seemingly unused, no one had even bothered to pick this one up let alone be looking for it in the first place but to Jay? That book was treasure. She opened it up to flick through the pages, inside there was a page for each herb you could think of with mounds of information.
Jay pushed through the crowd again to get to the front desk so she could buy the book when she bumped into someone, she looked to see who she had collided with and saw a girl about her age with short black hair and light brown eyes that had a sort of coldness to them and she was holding a book titled The Philosophy of the Mundane

Wisteria looked up and saw the girl she had just collided with. The girl had half brown half pink hair and dark brown eyes. Wisteria instantly felt the fear bubbling up inside of her, the exact feeling she felt when she had to talk to someone new.
"S-sorry about that," she said to the new girl, putting a bookmark in her book and closing it.
I'm always in everyone's way... she thought. Then she noticed the book the girl was holding. Muggle herbs and Their Properties.
Interesting, Wisteria thought. Does she like learning about Muggles too? Wisteria decided to ask her.
"I noticed that you have a book about Muggle herbs. I'm also interested in Muggles."
Wisteria held up the book she had in her hand, The Philosophy of the Mundane. "I'm reading about how and why Muggles choose to ignore magic. A fascinating subject, really. I'm assuming you like herbology?" she asked the girl.
If she does, we could become friends,Wisteria thought.

Jay looked at the girl who had just babbled on about learning about muggles, Jay felt a sharp stab in her throat.
Muggles aren’t something you just decide to research… that makes them sound like animals
“I’m a halfblood, I grew up in the muggle world so I know a lot” Jay snapped “This is a hobby of mine, along with playing guitar and art”
The other girl had the book The Philosophy Of The Mundane, she was probably reading not just about why muggles refuse to acknowledge magic but the psychology behind it.
“Look, muggles aren’t just some fascinating subject you can read about because no matter what it will be wrong” Jay started to explain “muggles all have different personalities, beliefs and identities, just like we do so you can’t collectively decide one thing for all muggles, it doesn’t work like that”
She probably doesn’t know too much about muggles, I think purebloods don’t like their kids seeing the real world
“If you are keen to learn about muggles I can tell you more, I’d be happy to educate you because your lack of knowledge concerning” she said, putting her hands on her hips.
Jay walked up to the counter and bought her book, glancing back at the girl “you coming?”

Wisteria suddenly turned cold, and her voice dropped to a more clinical tone.
"For the record, I don't research Muggles as if they're subhuman. I just find the ways they ignore magic fascinating. And I know that all Muggles are different. They're like us, but without magic. That's the only difference. Otherwise, we're the same. All of us are human."
Wisteria took a deep breath before continuing.
"You seem to think I'm studying Muggles. I'm actually studying perception. Why people believe what they believe. Why two people can see the same thing and think completely different things. So when you lecture me about Muggle individuality, you're explaining something I already understand."
She shrugged. "Besides, don't people do research on wizards and witches all the time too? Research is a form of learning, after all."
Wisteria went up after Jay and bought her book too.
"Yeah, sure. I'll come," she said.
People misunderstood each other.
People argued.
None of it mattered. Her parents wanted her to make friends? Ha. That was impossible. She was always misunderstood. Who cares about friends? They're nothing but unambitious enemies. She'd come to Hogwarts to learn, not to waste her time on social stuff.
Wisteria took her book back from the cashier after paying for it and waited for Jay to say something.
OOC: No worries! Anyways, I had an idea. Maybe Jay and Wisteria could be rivals at first but then become friends, if that's fine with you. Oh, and Wisteria's tone depends on what's said to her, so that's why she turned cold.

Jay frowned slightly, this girl was… weird to say the least. She definitely had a different and better way of viewing muggles than most people did. Especially Purebloods. The two girls bought their books and Jay noticed that she was being stared at. The other girl was looking at her expectantly, as if she was waiting for her to say something. Anything.
“Is there a problem?” she snapped, stopping before they could exit. Jay was done, she had thought that maybe this weird girl and her could be friends but that didn’t seem likely, not if she was expected to carry the conversation.
Why is she even following me, jeez
“Who in Hades name even are you?” she asked, this time a genuine question actually left her mouth and not a sarcastic one. “And don’t be all high and mighty and go ‘oh I’m so and so of the so and so family” Jay grumbled, she hated when people introduced themselves like that, it made her skin feel like there were spiders crawling all over her body.
“Like a normal introduction?” Jay pointed at herself “I’m Jay, you can call me Jay” She tilted her head at the other girl “Make sense sweetie?”

"You're very loud for someone who's scared of being ignored. I thrive in silence, and you need to talk to feel okay. When you said "is there a problem?", that wasn't confidence. That was panic."
Wisteria blinked.
"And for the record, I was staring at you to see if you'd react. Also, when you asked me to introduce myself normally... if how you introduced yourself was your definition of normal, I'm not sure I want to be normal. Using the word sweetie is just a sign of insecurity.
I think, Wisteria added in her mind. She was still learning psychological warfare, but she knew the key was to be calm and let the opponent destroy themselves internally.
Even if she isn't insecure, I have to convince her she is.
"I'm Wisteria Ames by the way. There. That's a normal introduction. Not adding the word sweetie and talking to me like I'm a baby. And Jay, if you have to ask whether you made sense, you probably didn't. Confidence doesn't need other people to confirm. That's the first lesson of confidence."
Wisteria stays for a few minutes and then heads towards Potage's Cauldron Shop.
