Mandrakes for Medicine

For the most part, students seemed to be getting the hang of things after her interruption. They settled down, collecting their individual equipment and getting to work. It was far nicer. She watched @Pericles Dralt pick up one of the boxes and immediately get to helping his friend @Breana Oliveire. He was already asking her to walk him back to the tower. But he was happy to walk to the lake instead - anywhere as long as they were together. Breana was very much attempting to actually understand the anatomy of the plants and why mandrakes were considered plants - rather than a creature - when Pericles shocked her with his touch. Luckily for the both of them, Hjørdis was not watching their flirting but rather that they were safe. At least, it seemed like they were flirting to Hjørdis. This was likely not the reality. They were eleven year olds and flirting was not really something that even crossed their mind.
@Calanthe Choi returned to work, working rather efficiently. She seemed to be rather critical of herself - which would push her to be a better version of herself if it did not completely drain her first. Either way, for today, she had done everything correctly and managed to control her emotions. Calanthe could rest easy though. Her thoughts - and her gratitude - was not heard by Hjørdis.
It would appear that @Lark Flaer had never officially met the Head of Slytherin and the fact that Calanthe was currently talking to her meant that they perhaps would likely not officially meet today either. But nonetheless, Lark totally jumped into the task, finding a friend and not getting her hands dirty - because she had gloves.
Hjørdis waved a hand in the air to dismiss the apology that @Ivy Bellamy made. She was not late, not really. This was voluntary. Turning up was far more than she actually expected from most people. Oddly, the pair of them - despite seeming so different - were rather similar. Both of them were here, despite the fact that the screaming mandrakes were not something they enjoyed being around. She ran into Crescent before... something came over her. For the briefest moment, she looked terrified. Even now, here of all places, she was making a scene. Hjørdis noticed the fallen box, quirking her eyebrow but quickly looked away to save the Gryffindor any further humiliation, pretending she did not see it.
@Crescent Moon was rather eager about helping out. In her excitement, she wasted absolutely no time in getting started on the task. With gloves on her hands and a box by her side, she started showing the mandrakes who is boss.
@Atlas Reid and @Ethen Emrys were the perfect pair. Whilst one had not really been one for herbology, the other was so good at it. But she still had her own strengths. Like being better at time management, being the one that was there first, whilst he was liking eating somewhere and getting distracted. Together, they could succeed. Ethen eventually showed up, instantly bursting into a hulk moment as he started to scream, ready to take down some dirt babies! Atlas was quick to warn him that he did not need to hulk out - probably smart. It saved Ethen from being on the end of Hjørdis' wrath. But Atlas was not done yet. She had another mission is afoot!
Avoiding people became suddenly easier when you could not actually talk to anyone. At least, that was what @Flash Holmwood believed. He found himself helping out at the errand to avoid having to deal with others. This way, he could be alone with something far more important: his thoughts. Everyone needed time to think. Some did it in silence, others did it in a room of screaming mandrakes - those earmuffs are definitely coming in handy for young Flash.
@Piérre Marchonné understood everything that Hjørdis had explained and quickly began to make efficient work on it. He finished up the task not too long later, perhaps one of the fastest in the group and quickly exited out after a thank you. He was met with a nod from Hjørdis, silently thanking him for his help.
Pierre was helped before he left by @Evelynn Decipio who did not seem to want to be here - or seemed to be questioning everything that was going on. That was the issue with dangerous events all around you. It threw doubt everywhere. You started to think there were issues or conspiracies were there were none. Despite her uncertainties, she made quick work of the mandrakes.
@Jo Morgan's gloves might have been a size too big for her but that did not stop her from quickly uprooting four mandrakes in a short while. It was rather tiring worth, truthfully and she ended up breaking a sweat. Sadly, it did not remove whatever mood she was in or cheer her up.
@Aura Lee worked quickly and managed to spend an hour pulling up many mandrakes before she left. It was all to help her mother. The more she did, the better her mother would be. And for that reason, she worked hard.
Hufflepuffs were said to be good at Herbology. At least, that was the stereotype. @Teiki Laurent wasted no time in proving that that was true. She came up with a mantra, pulling out mandrakes and placing them into the box. She was quickly followed by another Hufflepuff, one @Maria Dee, who decided to help out. Maria wasted no time in insulting the mandrakes good looks, but it apparently did not enjoy that. She was a Hufflepuff through and through - apologising to a plant... Nonetheless, she worked hard, until her arms were sore before heading out.
@Dealla Prince apparently shared Maria's sentiments. The mandrake was certain ugly. She did, however, seem to enjoy the experience. She might have only been here for ingredients but perhaps working with plants or tending to them was in her future too. A future herbologist in the making, perhaps. It would not be out of the question, if she choose to venture down that path.
Whilst some people were born herbologists, @Opeila Seilun was likely not above them. She did not like the idea of people pulling the plants out of the pots. She viewed them as creatures, babies perhaps. Not plants. It was hard to get over that but at the end of the day, they felt no pain - despite their screams.
Hjørdis nodded in response to @Mars T'ien who asked if they could take a pair of the earmuffs. Mars took one and quickly started to get to work. Whilst most people claimed the mandrakes were ugly, Mars actually thought that perhaps it was kind of cute. She also felt a little bad, not wanting to hurt the plants - much like the Slytherin girl who entered just before her. Nonetheless, she finished up her task and returned a box of dormant mandrakes to the professor before heading off.
The last arrival was @Aaron Jones. He appreciated the Slytherin Head of House's beauty, if nothing else. She was a 'little cold', he thought. Just a little. Perhaps her reputation was not as scary as she had intended for it to be. Nonetheless, he braved himself up and approached her.
Hjørdis quirked an eyebrow as the young boy made his way over. He looked a little scared of her - which, she was kind of used to. It was most definitely her own fault that people reacted in that way. But he did not yell. He was likely a little louder than he normally was. However, the professor also had earmuffs on as she was pulling her own set of mandrakes out. There was a box, full of them, by her desk. Ones that she had done whilst she was here.
She tilted her head a little, wondering if Aaron had never attended a herbology lesson. His uncertainly seemed to be working against him. Nonetheless, she leaned over and peered into the box. There were a number of mandrake roots that had been uprooted and placed into it. They had fallen dormant after some time. Hjørdis nodded, "You have," She replied, keeping her compliment rather simple. It might not have sounded like a compliment, to be all honest. But she was recognising his ability and acknowledging that it was right - that was quite rare for her, "Well done." She added as an afterthought, to actually acknowledge his success. He looked pretty proud of himself. Perhaps he wanted her to give him a proud tap on the back. She was not going to do that, of course. However, her words should do the same. Maybe.
OOC: Please make sure you've done Herbology Year 1 Lesson 1. This is the prerequisite for this errand. You will not get rewards unless you've done this and completed the word count. There is approximately nine hours remaining for this errand before it will be completed - in order to get the rewards. Anyone in this thread already may continue to post after the time, just to complete their RPs, but not for rewards. Thank you!

Mandrakes for Medicine
Jack was not all that fond of plants or Herbology, but that made him no less dedicated to studying the subject than any other. He actually had more reason to involve himself in this particular errand than most due to his connection to the muggle world as a muggle-born. His parents had no magical method of fighting the COVID-19 virus, so Jack felt it was up to those gifted with magic, such as himself, to do their part in aiding the less fortunate. As it was often said, with great power came great responsibility.
The Welsh boy certainly wasn't fond of responsibility, but that didn't mean he was adverse to taking it up when he felt the cause appealed to him. It was intriguing to him how the wizarding world he remained unaware of for most of his life still played their part behind the scenes of the muggle world such as the task he was involved with now. From what he'd been told, students in his year would be able to help third years create a potion that could treat the COVID-19 virus. It seemed almost laughable that there was a treatment simple enough for even thirteen-year-olds to make that remained unknown to muggles. Still, Jack was both astonished and glad that the wizarding community endeavored to aid non-magical folk in any way they could.
The task he had been assigned to, however, was somewhat alarming in its nature. He was supposed to collect mandrakes from their pots, but not without the aid of a pair of earmuffs. Said earmuffs were supposed to be powerful enough to protect him from the otherwise fatal cry of said...roots? plants? creatures? whatever they were...and Jack was just a tad skeptical about that. From what he knew, earmuffs were muggle headgear used to keep ones ears warm, not to protect one from deadly screams of baby-looking roots. Could he really trust them to be enough?
Well, if the teachers deemed it safe enough for first years to do the job, then Jack would just have to trust them. He was pleasantly surprised and relieved to find that they weren't expected to wear just any old set of earmuffs, but were each give their own. If they were provided by the school for the students to take on such dangerous work, they had to be safe, right?
Convincing himself with this reasoning, Jack donned the earmuffs and quickly got to work plucking a pair of mandrakes - one in each hand - from their pots. He saw their creepy mouths open to scream, but was happy to note he could hear nothing of them. After depositing the mandrakes in their specified area for collection, he was told he could keep the earmuffs as a reward, along with being awarded a few house points for his efforts. Well...that hadn't been as bad as he'd thought after all.

Mandrakes for Medicine
"You have... Well done."Interacting with @Hjørdis Jensen
Aaron's dark eyes lit up and he nodded. It seemed that she was a professor of few words, and he could respect that. He would take what he could get from the silver-haired Slytherin woman. The young boy placed his box of mandrakes with the others, and he took a good look at them. Although they were not the prettiest sight, he knew that they were essential to the efforts of creating a cure. So, with that in mind, he quietly said to them, "Thank you. You'll be put to really good use!" Perhaps being in Hufflepuff - where they regularly spoke to the plants in the common room to make sure they stayed healthy - had really rubbed off on him.
"I hope the efforts continue to go well, Professor," Aaron said loudly, turning back to the pale-haired lady. He offered one last smile, then turned away to leave. Although he had planned to go do the errand at the lake next, it was late in the day and he was feeling hungry. So once he left the greenhouse, he turned back towards the castle and started for it. Maybe he would do the lake errand after some food and drinks.

Mandrakes for Medicine

Hjørdis observed the young smiling boy [AARON JONES] in front of her. His eyes lit up, he was really excited. It was kind of rather sweet, to be honest. She said nothing but it was still rather sweet to see. Though... She did find herself quirking as she continued to observe him. He whispered quietly to the mandrake roots, about how they would be put to good use. It was... certainly something. Wow. The boy was definitely a Hufflepuff - through and through. This was the sort of weirdness she expected from the badger Head of House. Strange man, after all.
She silently mused to herself, wondering if all hufflepuffs spoke to plants or if it was just a select few. They would be good herbologists, if nothing else. Speaking to plants was apparently good to help them grow - not that she entirely believed in the philosophy of that but she had heard it. However... these roots had already been uprooted. It seemed a little odd at this point, after you had already uprooted them, to talk to them. Hufflepuffs were certainly something.
"Thank you," She replied with a nod towards the boy, deciding not to comment on his weirdness. Once he departed, she turned back to her own table. Finishing up the work that she had been doing, she moved the boxes of mandrakes to the side and started to clean up the room as the students began to leave.
Within a short while, the greenhouse was returned back to its former condition, with the addition of multiple boxes of plucked mandrakes ready to be sent to the potions classroom for the next stage. Hjørdis grabbed one of the boxes and headed out, locking up behind her. /quote][THREAD FINISHED]
