She knew the dance was coming up, she knew she needed to practice dancing or risk stepping on Kaitlyn's toes. She was wearing a simple white dress with a blue lined hem, the music playing in her mind. She hummed to a song only she could hear.

She closes her eyes and steps forward with her left foot, to the side with the right, then the left foot together, step back with the right, side with the left, and bring to close with the right. Then repeat. But that was for the leader of the waltz... Would Kait be more confident with dancing or just be happy with Emiline leading? She went over to her bag and pulled out a notepad and wrote down the steps for the leader. Emiline knew she would have to learn the other part, just in case.

Standing back up and moving to the middle of the room again, she raised her arms to about waist and shoulder hight then stepped back with her right foot for the first count, then stepped to the side with the left for count two. For the third count, she brought her right foot next to her left foot, transferring weight to the right. Hoping it flowed. For the next two counts she stepped forwards onto the left foot then to the side with her right foot. Finally to close, she brought her left foot to the right foot and transferred weight back.

It didn't feel right. The dance was suppose to flow, but it felt clunky. So, Emiline did it again, and again and again! Until she was dizzy, her feet were aching and her humming slowly stopped. "Hopefully, this can be the best dance I've ever done" She said, her heart pounding for more reasons than just dancing. She was going to ask Kaitlyn out to the dance. She just needed to get the steps for the Waltz perfect first.

To be quite fair, Kaitlyn rather enjoyed the ballroom at Hogwarts. When she first laid eyes on it as a young firstie, she immediately fell in love. It was so big and enchanting to look at! Even with other students in the room when there were events, it never felt claustrophobic … at least to her. If anything, it provided her with a consistent joy whenever she stepped foot inside. From every visit thus far, she always felt very welcomed to break out in a dance.

While Kait could hardly call herself a professional dancer, she had some formal education in dancing and ballet. Hence, why she was always so eager to enter the ballroom. She enjoyed the sensation of the magical gramophone playing classical music to dance to. Of course, most of her visits were solo, unfortunately. But, then again, she was hardly a show-off. So, it made sense for why she usually wished to dance in private.

Even with this formal dance education, Kait’s muggle boarding school, St. Ann’s all-girls Catholic Boarding School, rarely had the students dancing at their various etiquette parties. Those were intended to teach them how to interact socially as polite young women. Dancing was not necessarily in the schedule too often. Of course, that didn’t stop her and her awesome muggle friend group at the time.

When it came time for the various balls Hogwarts routinely held, Kait loved to visit the ballroom to practice. Sure, she didn’t attend every ball … and from all accounts, it seemed like many of them suffered from a high rate of drama and chaos … that wouldn’t stop her from practicing her skills. Plus, she enjoyed dancing with her bestie, Devon, from Ilvermorny, separately. She enjoyed hanging out with the Horned Serpent from America.

The young Slytherin gently played with one of her pigtail braids as she headed to the ballroom. She felt like now was a good time to practice, hopefully! Or at least give her some time to help her perfect her dancing … before she would undoubtedly have to get back to her prefect duties. Her heels clicked against the ground as the hem of her dress fluttered around her knees with every step.

With ease, Kaitlyn pulled open the door to the ballroom, gracefully entering the peaceful room. Her eyes grew wide as she noticed Emiline inside … and already dancing at that! A light blush formed on her cheeks … as the memory of the confession played in her mind. ‘Focus … focus … can’t get distracted now,’ she thought.

A kind smile formed on her cheeks, with the blush. “Hi Emiline! Fancy seeing you here,” she greeted the Hufflepuff as she slowly stepped into the room.

Still lost in her mind playing the dancing music, she barely registers the click, click, click, click, of heels on the hard floor. She barely noticed the creak of the door being pushed open by a certain someone.

That certain someone's voice gently pulled Emiline out her focus. As if coming out a daze, the dancer blinks and looks towards the known voice.

There she stood, her hair in her iconic pigtails, wearing heels and beautiful light green floral dress. That green really suits her, her brain thought before she could stop it, but luckily she didn't say it out-loud. Then she remembered that she was in front of an actual person, not her daydream. "K-kait! You're here..." Her tone was one similar to when someone walks in early to a surprise birthday while everything is still being set up."You... haven't been there long right?"

An awkward chuckle follows. Emiline's mind working overtime to try to figure out how to explain what she was doing without needing to explain that she was such a terrible dancer and was practising before the ball. Her cheeks slowly go rosy from embarrassment.

Clearing her throat, trying to clear her mind and emotions so that she wouldn't get her tongue-tied while speaking. "Well, the thing is... I was practising for the Wonderland Walz so I wouldn't be so bad. I don't even know how long I've been in here."
Another self-awkward laugh. "Would you like to join?" Emiline prays she wasn't too obvious about it, as she was planning to ask Kait to the dance but Kait came before she she had nailed her 'ask-to-the -waltz dance.' As she thought about how she would ask via dance, as the practice time got accidently cut, her face started flushing more.

A quiet giggle escaped her lips as Kaitlyn fully stepped into the ballroom, the hem of her dress gently swaying against her knees. It was weird how fate seemed to work. Yet, who was she to question it? Nevertheless, now was not the time for mental philosophical debates (there would be plenty of time for that when she wouldn’t be able to sleep later).

The Slytherin shook her head at the Hufflepuff’s question. Her pigtails swayed at the movement, brushing against her shoulders. “No. I’ve just arrived,” she confirmed, a light blush forming on her cheeks. She had no idea how to process such a question, and it made her wonder what Emiline was planning. There was clearly a plan here. Who was she to try to steamroll through that plan to identify everything that was happening? It was often far more fun to let it play its course … which was exactly what she was planning to do here!

Practicing was always a good idea, especially when unfamiliar with the proposed dance type. It was, unfortunately, very easy to embarrass yourself, especially within a group of students. Of course, there would be so many in attendance that it might be overlooked. Although that wouldn’t matter too much, as trying to have a good time with your date was by far the most important part. As much fun as it would be to talk and to eat, the dancing would be the main attraction, which was why it was very likely to cause anxiety.

“Completely understandable. I feel like most people wouldn’t be angry if you weren’t perfect with it.” Kaitlyn shrugged. To be quite frank, she used to be the type of girl who would care if the waltz wasn’t perfect. While it was only a few years since her first year, she quickly realized that holding everyone to her preconceived ideas of dancing and St. Ann’s ideas of proper young ladies was likely to be too high a bar to pass. Besides, perfection did not necessarily always mean fun.

A giggle crossed Kait’s lips, a bright smile forming. She gripped the hem of her dress, and she curtsied. “I’d be honored to join you, Miss Emiline,” she giggled, sounding formal. She held out her hand to Emi and maintained an easy smile.
