A Rare Luxury
The cold wind howled as it made its way through the Grounds. Rustling leaves on its way and relentlessly tugging at the blue and bronze scarf that the Ravenclaw boy was wearing. Neculai's attire for today was a woolen sweater, winter cloak and gloves. He had chosen for thick clothes as he wanted to explore the Grounds some more.
Something simple as just aimlessly roaming through the grounds had become a rare luxury for him. If he wasn't training early in the morning for Quidditch, he would in the evening be wandering the castle halls as he performed his Prefect duties. In a matter of a few weeks he had been swarmed with duties. He didn't mind that he was this busy, as he had chosen for this voluntarily and it gave him a purpose.
He remembered the words his mother had said when he left for Hogwarts. "Don't always lock yourself away in that tower! Go out there and make some friends, just promise me you'll atleast try?' The pale lips formed an almost invisible smile as he remembered them. This was his way of trying to abide to those wishes. But like they said: You can't teach an old dog some new tricks. Neculai had brought with him a book. The book was Hogwarts: A History. Already a year he was attending classes here and yet he still hadn't finished it. It was an interesting read for sure, but a bit of a drag. So Neculai found himself a quiet place where he saw a bench and sat there, trying to give the book another go.

A Rare Luxury
Fyriel shivered when a chill gust of wind blew through her robe. “I should have worn my winter cloak today”, she analysed. It was a wintry day but Fyriel wanted to get to know the castle and its surroundings a bit more. She had heard a couple of other students talk about their dorm rooms. She was investigative as to where the dorms where and if she could find the library. At some point in her swamped first day, someone did tell her where to find everything but she had been daydreaming again. About what to write to her family in her first letter homeward. Of course, if she had listened instead of fantasizing she would not be freezing right now while roaming around on the Grounds.
With all the new experiences and acquaintances, fyriel was glad she had some time to herself for a couple of hours. She tugged on the sleeves of the cardigan underneath her black robe to keep some body warmth in but it wasn’t much use. The wind blew a strand of her black hair in her mouth. As Fyriel tried to free herself of the icky feeling of hair on her tongue, she noted a boy on the grounds. He seemed about her age, perhaps a tad older. He had brown hair and glasses. She noticed a bronze/blue scarf around his neck and the lined winter cloak he was wearing. “Ha that guy did think of the cold weather before stepping outside, a Ravenclaw obviously.”, she sighed.
Fyriel considered going back to find her winter cloak but it seemed too big a challenge to puzzle her way back up those staircases. There is one thing her dad forgot to mention about Hogwarts… Moving Staircases... “He’ll be hearing about that in my letter!”

"By Merlin's beard... How will I ever be able to finish this one?" The book was even more dull then he had first anticipated. Neculai had read a lot of books before as he was what others would call a bookwurm. He had a fondness for them as they seemed to pull his mind in some form of serenity that reality simply couldn't bring. But never before had he experienced a similar feeling with a book as with this one. It was a drag and honestly dreadfull writing by the author. Agreed, not all authors can be as gifted as his favourite writer Gilderoy Lockehart, but this was a pain to read.
Sighing loudly he smacked the book shut and loosely threw it besides him. Scarlet eyes were observing the grounds and he was in awe with what he saw. Leaves surfing along the gusts of wind as they carry them to new ventures, the sweet smell of green grass filling his nostrils. Taking up all of the information his senses could give him as he closed his eyes for a second. It was like one of those moments that go by too quickly for anyone to really appreciate them.
As his eyes opened slowly he suddenly noticed a girl. She was walking over the Grounds and looking at him. Another sigh escaped him as he got up and took his book. Tightening the scarf a little more so the cold wind couldn't touch his skin. He waved as he walked over to her. "H-Hey there! Aren't you c-cold? As you don't seem to be dressed for the weather." He said with a small smile.

The Ravenclaw boy Fyriel had noticed before, waved and walked over to her. A bit out of the blue really. He noted she wasn’t really dressed for this winter day and asked if she was cold. “Hi, u-uhm, I am a little, yes. I forgot my winter cloak in my dorm but I’m haven’t really figured out the moving staircases yet ,so…” She shrugged and added: ”I just went with it. I’m Fyriel, first-year Hufflepuff and you are?” A friendly smile appeared on her face, after she introduced herself in a soft voice. The shy Hufflepuff extended her hand in the boy’s direction to have a proper acquaintance. The Ravenclaw sounded a tad nervous himself. When he spoke to her some words didn’t come out very fluent, she had it the other way around when she was nervous. Fyriel would start quickly uttering the words with almost no control of what came out her mouth. After a while she would manage to slow down but the first time meeting someone would always get to her. I wonder if he knows his way around better than me… Maybe I could ask him for a tour? Or is that weird? Hmm.. I’ll see how this goes first.
Several surges of cold wind blew all around the two students. There weren’t many others in sight on the Grounds today. All of them possibly scurried off when they sensed how the weather was going to be. The Ravenclaw student stood out a bit taller than Fyriel. His knitted scarf swayed sideways in the wind. Right, I have a scarf too… Why on earth didn’t I wear it? Under Fyriel’s black school robes, she wore black, ripped jeans today. A yellow knitted, long-sleeve sweater above that and her favourite silver necklace. Her hair was half tied-up before she walked outside, but by now there was no trace of that, the wind had managed to erase any effort put into her hairstyle. Her black lace-up boots squeaked as she rubbed her feet together. In an effort to mask the high-pitched sound she cleared her throat and asked the Ravenclaw boy; “Are you new here too?” He seemed a bit older than her so the answer was probably going to be no, but with nothing else coming to mind to start the conversation, she gave it a go.

A hand stretched towards Neculai, he shook it and let go. "Pleasure, to make your acquitance, Fyriel! My name is N-Neculai Dragos Lazar... the Third!" Hastily he added the last part before he would forget it. "You can call me Neculai however. No one really calls me by my full name. Except for the Professor, but I guess they do that with all of the students." The Dhampir chuckled as he tried to relax a bit. "So a Huffle you say, huh? I haven't had the pleasure to meet a lot of your house. Glad you were sorted there or do you think you would've had a better fit somewhere else?" The Ravenclaw boy curiously looked at Fyriel. "Oh, quite understandable!" He answered on her referring why she wasn't wearing her winter cloak. "We've all been there. Quite a big place the castle even bigger are the grounds surrounding it. So you want to find your way back to your Dorm then or?"
As he noticed she was quite a bit underdressed for the weather Neculai offered Fyriel his scarf. "Want to wear my scarf in the meantime? You look a bit cold." A smile played once more on his lips as the First Year asked him if he was new here aswell. "Oh, no! I'm a Second Year from the House Ravenclaw. You probably assumed that because I'm here all on my own, huh? Its a frequent mistake... I-uh tend to spend most of my time alone. Its become a habit to just read somewhere quiet."

A Rare Luxury
“Neculai Dragos Lazar the Third”, the boy had told Fyriel. ‘What a curious name', she thought. ‘A bit odd like mine.' Fyriel couldn’t help but smirk when he hastily added “the Third” to his name. 'Does that mean he’s royalty? Or maybe he just has a very large family’, it sounded in Fyriel’s mind. She was fond of this boy. His nerves seemed to have nearly vanished when he asked Fyriel about her opinion on her house. “Oh, I am so pleased and proud to be in Hufflepuff. It truly feels like I’m in the right place.”, she answered Neculai’s question. Afterward, he offered her to wear his Ravenclaw scarf until they found their way to the Hufflepuff dorms. A blush formed on Fyriel’s cheeks from Neculai’s nice gesture. She smiled and took him up on his offer. In a polite and slightly exaggerated manner she added, ”Why, how gentlemen-like of you. I genuinely appreciate that. Thank you. And I would like to get to my dorm indeed. I can’t wear your scarf forever." Fyriel joked as she accepted Neculai’s scarf and wrapped it around her neck. She immediately sensed the warmth and felt better already.
“So, Second-Year, that must mean you know your way around alright?”,Fyriel curiously quizzed the Ravenclaw. “Oh, I do that too. Spending my time alone to read I mean. I haven’t found many quiet places yet. I’ve been reading beside the Great Lake often but large bodies of water can make me uncomfortable so it’s not my favourite place. And then I found a small hill close to the stables but that spot is usually taken already”, she confessed to Neculai. Fyriel’s eyes scanned across the Grounds when a stronger gust of wind came up. She shivered and fixed the soft scarf to cover her nape. Her hands hid under her armpits to warm. Looking back at Neculai Fyriel examined his movements while he talked. Fyriel pondered about the boy she had acquianted ,'I didn't think I'd meet such kind people here, I'm glad I decided to stroll around the Grounds today.'
