She was not expecting for Mildred to get stabbed by a giant stinger, and she was completely stuck on what to do. She had dove under a table to hide from the thing right as Mildred got stung by the mosp, and watched as the girl who originally threw the cup at the mosp dashed over to help her. Mildred looked to be bleeding, and the person started to put pressure on the wound. Crystal then nearly facepalmed as she threw ANOTHER cup at the mosp. She though she might have figured out at this point that agitating the thing was only making it worse.

As much as she wanted to help, she stayed under the table she was huddled under, still and sitting in darkness. Considering the amount of damage that stinger can do, she'd rather not get impaled. She was looking around for anything she could use if a mosp came up to her, but the only thing she had was her wand. Not that it was very helpful, she didn't know any spells that could be useful. She peeked under the tablecloth, taking a peek at everything around her. Trying to figure out if there was anything that might be able to help her, and others in this situation. Or maybe an exit that she could use that wasn't being blocked by anything. If she could find an exit, she could help get Mildred out of there and into the medical ward. Here's hoping she can find one.
Action: Looking around to find a usable exit, or something to help her.

It certainly felt like she was being attacked. Strangers coming out of nowhere trying to steal her bag. Well, perhaps not strangers but less than acquaintances. One of the girls that bullied her in the Owlry, another one. Now some guy she had never met but saw a few times on the Quidditch Pitch. His position as Gryffindor Captain had earned him some acclaim, enough for her to recognize him.

Arlo was doing what he could to defend her and a bag that was left in their charge that everyone else seemed to want. Why couldn't this be a nice dance, a fun date? Take a spin under the stars, maybe kiss a boy. Things a girl her age should be worried about, not some mad students stealing her friend's bag. Not...

Oh God, Victor is on fire! "Vic!" She shrieked, the firebug would dart across the field a blaze of light. Where was he running? Why was he running away, running towards a second light. "Oh God Vic!" Rafael would come at them, insisting that he take the bag from Arlo's grip. "Get away from him!"

What was she to do? She had three options really -- the first was to grab the bag that everyone was so interested in and make a break for it. She could not leave Arlo, she was not going to leave him behind while she fled. Her second option was to save Victor. That would leave Arlo to contend with one petrified girl, her ally (both of them mean bullies) as well as the Captain of the Quidditch Team. Save Arlo from potential peril or save Victor from being burnt alive. That being the third option, defending the bag and themselves from the incursion.

She was going to save Victor. That is if his extinguo fails to smother the flames that had ensconced his wiry form. If Victor's action failed Marion would try to save him. She would not know where to aim her spell, so she would aim for the most obvious target -- Victor and cry out the incantation "Extinguo!"

However, if the spell quelled the flames, Marion would instead defend Arlo from Rafael. She would cast the Knockback Jinx, also known as Flipendo in an attempt to knock Rafael away from the bag. He was already bloodied, he was lucky he could even stand after Vlad got hold of him. He likely did not have much left she reasoned. If she could she would align herself by strafing to the right so that Rafael was in front of her and if one were to draw a straight line behind him one would see Bridget Collins behind her. A determined glint in her eye and a potentially unique use for this elementary spell she would scream "Flippendo!" Flicking her wand as she added after with a teary-eyed expression "You jerk!" Not that he would learn anything, those sorts of people rarely learn, but it might be in his self-preservationist interest to do so.

If Rafael was knocked out it would serve the dumb bastard right and then she would only have to deal with two more girls. "I am so sorry Arlo, I will make this up to you I swear," a hollow promise really. There was nothing that she could give him of equivalent value. She took a deep breath and steeled herself for whatever might come next.
Actions:
Use extinguo on Victor unless he is put out by his own action or the action of another player, in which case instead she would...
Attack Rafael with a Flippendo, attempting to aim him so if he is launched back that he would hit Bridget.

So this can be reduced to something as simple as an obvious theft. The hope that numbers and might can overwhelm them. Rafael was dedicated to his brawl with Vladimir, much to his future shame of defeat. That was until his goal was elsewhere. As some gremlin of a gothic child in ridiculous armor he likely got from a costume store unzipped his bag to reveal his darkest secrets:

  • 1 set of school clothes
  • 1 large, soft-ball sized phial filled with an unknown substance
  • 3 empty mason jars
  • 1 doll that vaguely resembles Marion Davenport
  • 1 blanket, plaid. One side flannel, the other a plastic-like

Vlad assailed Rafael's girl, be it his lover or his patsy. She would suffer for his negligence. She did not stand a chance and he did not come to her defense. Rafael was no white knight. He would then see a pair of fires erupt, one around Victor and another around the girl. A smirk would eclipse his face, one of those shit-eating grins that would suggest that despite all superficial appearances everything thus far was going according to plan. "Victor!" Vladimir would call out loud enough for anyone who cared to listen to hear. "I'm coming for you, try to last!" He would be fine, Vladimir knew it. The boy had an incredible endurance, it was one of the things that made the seemingly fragile boy worth his while.

Words of encouragement perhaps. His words had a tone of urgency despite a cruel smile. His next words were not quite so loud as he drew his wand and aimed it at Willow. "Looks like he left you to your fate," if she looked at him she would see it. He was wrestling a smaller student for a distant bag. That bag being of greater value than her. "Why bother," he slid the wand back into his jacket. He would pivot his boot on the grass, he was lightning quick as he attempted to strike the girl in he head with a roundhouse kick. "I can at least do you the courtesy of giving you my attention before I move on, unlike your boyfriend." He was referring to Rafael. She can claim that she was his friend all she wanted, but there was a strange correlate between those of the female gender and being at the beckon call of a guy who seems to discard them as easily as he likely obtained them.

There was of course the matter of his date, the treacherous Slytherin at his side. The one that had eyes on him the ball. The one that gave lip service sans emotion to stop. A bloody shame really, the top of her head was cute. Still, he was not a brute. As of yet no harm had come to her. Of course such things might not last forever, he was still assessing and learning. She had revealed much and she had helped ensure his plan came to fruition. She likely did not understand how or why this was the case. How such a disappointment could truly be in his favor. The crude, utterly mismanaged assault from all directions. The fear and the pain. His now bloodied knuckles and ruined suit.

He let out a mad laugh.

Amara had been at the ball for about 15 minutes and in that time she has seen someone punch her friend, someone else attempt to punch him and mosps attacking children. And this, she decides is why she never goes to big events. As she starts to follow Gem out though, a bright light- or should I say flame- caught her eye. Could this ball get any more melodramatic? Well yes, because not only is there a fire but it is consuming another person. Amara looks around hoping someone is helping Ana but no, they are all caught up in their own stuff. Amara sighs before pulling off her pumps and runs over to the drink table. She grabs a bucket of ice in one hand and a jug of water in the other. Hopefully this is enough because Amara has nothing else up her sleeve.

Amara walks as fast as possible to the barbecuing human who now looks more like a fish. Clearly, she tried to stop, drop and roll but it comes across more like a drop and flop. Amara decides against necessities and just dumps both the ice and water on the girl at once. Amara sees the girls face and growls. Lord, she just risked getting set on fire the save her, one of the girls who punched Gem. Before Amara realizes what she is doing, she takes the bucket that was filled with ice and throws it onto the girl’s face. Amara gasps at her own impulsivity and looks down as guilt begins to seep into her.

A classic game of Tug of War. If only it had been that innocent, they were children after all. A night that should have brought celebration and joy had now dissolved into chaos and fighting. Arlo squared off with Tyranni as both struggled for possession of the duffel bag. His spirit was torn as she demanded to know of the contents within. On one side, Marion had entrusted him with the knowledge. On the other, Arlo was positive that this was dangerous and the quicker they got the bag away, the safer everyone would be.

The pressure to reveal the truth only doubled as Thora approached the scene. Their interrogation perhaps came from a place of innocence. A need to gather information to protect themselves and their friends, but how many atrocities have been committed throughout history in the pursuit of that very purpose.

The questioning would remind him of the Owlery. How they had used intimidation, force, even pain to try and squeeze something out of Marion. How they had simply just watched as she doubled over from the injury to her shoulder. How they had threatened to refuse her aid all in the pursuit of this knowledge they felt they desperately needed to know. What they failed to do was question themselves. To ask what they were willing to sacrifice in order to force a girl that was clearly caught up in a lot of trouble to spill the beans. They claimed it was necessary to secure their future, but failed to realize that they themselves were committing misdeeds. An eye for an eye perhaps, but where was the compassion? The attempt to understand that Marion could just be an innocent caught up in a really bad situation. Sometimes you get a lot farther with an act of kindness.

The time for that had passed. The lines in the sand were drawn and Arlo would choose his side with Marion. “It’s none of your concern!” He raised his voice to Tyranni and Bridget. “You would only use it to hurt her! We are taking it away! To keep us all safe! Now let go!”

The little boy would have little chance against the two older girls, but in his time of need, Marion would heed his call to aid. The spell would fly over his head to strike Tyranni. Her arms and legs would lock and like a brick she feel to the floor. Arlo was helpless to contribute as Bridget attempted to cast Obscuro in retaliation, but it turned out that Marion was more of a fighter than he imagined as she swiftly dodged the spell.

The numbers against them only grew as Thora appeared on the scene. She too would lunge for the bag. “No! Leave it alone!” Arlo gave the bag a mighty tug. Much to his surprise, he was able to rip it from her grasp. Beginning to sweat and grunt with exertion, the boy would begin to slowly drag the bag away. However, the gods would not reward his small victory as the night descended from chaos to madness. All around them people shouted as spells flew through the air and flames erupted. Screams of pain tore through the night air causing Arlo to pause.

“Oh no! Victor! Someone help them! Fire! Fire! Marion, forget the bag! Help him!” Arlo shouted in a panic just as a presence appeared behind him. He would turn just in time to see a boy reaching for the bag. The newest intruder was bloodied and he had a mad look in his eyes as he demanded that Arlo release the bag. Only time would tell if the part Goblin would have to fight alone.

If Victor’s is unable to save himself and Marion flees to his aid:

The other boy made his attempt to steal the bag. “No! Let go you bastard!” Arlo would not let go without a fight. He could not over power him and was wandless. He had to resort to a cheap shot. With his long index finger extended he would jump up as Rafael bent down to snatch the bag and attempt to poke his eye.

If Victor is able to save himself and Marion joins Arlo in his fight:

The flash of a spell would come dangerously close to Arlo as Marion continued her barrage of Magic. Arlo’s actions would depend on her success. If she missed, his action would be much the same and he would attempt to poke Rafael’s eye and continue possession of the bag. If she connected, the boy would simply continue to drag the bag away.

“Don’t apologize Marion.” He spoke in between deep breaths as he struggled with the bag. “It’s not your fault. Let’s call it a rain check. Now, help me get this out of here.”
Action: If Victor fails to save himself and Marion flees to his aid, Arlo attempts to poke Rafael’s eye and maintain possession of the bag. If Victor does save himself and Marion’s Flipendo is a success. Arlo continues to drag the bad away. If her Flipendo fails, he will still attempt to poke Rafael’s eye and maintain possession of the bag.

So, Dealla hadn't been planning to go to the Secret Blossom Ball. Not because she didn't like parties - she loved parties, and the Ball had sounded like it would be a great deal of fun - but because apparently, her information network at this school absolutely sucked. She had heard of the usual Blossom Ball, sure, and she had been part of the outrage when it had been canceled for safety reasons.
But when the rumours had started to spread about the Secret Blossom Ball, planned by students in absolute confidentiality to keep the staff from interfering, Dee had somehow completely missed this piece of vital information.
Maybe she should start actually listening more and talking less - but that was a matter for another day.
Whatever the reason, when Dealla had finally heard about this utterly thrilling sounding event, it had been too late: She didn't have a dress. No date, either, but she probably wouldn't have had any qualms just third-wheeling and forcing one of her friends and their date to put up with her. But without a dress?
So, she had decided to just not go. It wouldn't be so bad, right? She didn't have to be at every event.

Yet, when the night of the Ball came, and Dealla had found herself almost utterly alone in the Ravenclaw Common Room, she had realized she might have underestimated just how many people would be attending it. There had been no one here who she wanted to talk to, who might have helped pass the time more quickly. And then there had been the thought of her friends, at the ball, having fun - without her.
Dee had tried to kill the time, done homework, written a letter, even sorted through the contents of her trunk, but when she had looked at the time again, merely an hour had passed.

And that was how Dee had ended up on her way down to the Quidditch Pitch, wearing jeans and an oversized jumper in place of a fancy dress, her wavy brown hair tied up in a ponytail instead of pinned in elaborate curls. She would just check in for a minute, she had reasoned. Not stay long. Just say hi to her friends, see what the fuss was about, and then go back up to the castle.
However when she had neared the entrance to the pitch - she had already been able to hear voices from inside - suddenly, all the candles, the one encased in bubbles on the ground, spreading a rather pretty light, had flickered and gone out, and she had been bathed in darkness.
Dealla had come to a stop abruptly, fingers searching for the wand in her sleeve instinctively. Was it already over? But no, there had still been voices - surprised, scared, angry, panicked voices from inside, some screams - so that couldn't have been it. She thought she could hear steps coming towards her from inside - people leaving? - but couldn't see enough to be sure. Had something gone wrong?

Dee was still contemplating what to do, whether to cast Lumos, and venture inside, or just turn around and go back up to the castle, when the candles flickered back on.
But while she might have expected this to return things to normal, since she had attributed the sudden influx of people shouting to the loss of light, the agitation from inside seemed to continue, as were the people leaving the pitch and passing by her in a hurry.
And so her curiosity won out over what might have been her sanity telling her to leave.

Her wand held at the ready, Dealla stepped into the Quidditch Pitch, not sure what to expect. It was a good thing she hadn't had expectations, too, because whatever she might have pictured, it for sure wouldn't have been this.
There were strange, huge insects buzzing through the air, towards some of the students who were scattered in the area, alone, in pairs or groups, but Dee only noticed that very vaguely at the edge of her consciousness, because what drew her immediate attention were the fires. Several of them - some bigger, some smaller - wait, were those students burning? There was a girl, not far from the entrance, who was writhing on the ground in obvious agony.
With a horrified gasp, Dealla moved forwards, almost stumbling over her own feet. She noticed there were other students around, too, some waving their wands, another heading towards the burning girl with a pitcher of water in her hands that seemed much too small to extinguish a fire this bad in Dealla's eyes, but all her focus was captured by the girl in flames. A few more steps, and Dealla raised her own wand as soon as she was near enough to properly aim.
"Extinguo." The incantation was barely more than a whisper, since all air seemed to have fled her lungs.

What had happened here? How could things have gone so horrifically wrong that several students were now burning? How had these fires even started?

Hanako didn’t know how long his staring showdown with the bug mosps 13 , but he did remember feeling his voice scream out of his throat. Before he could think ‘ yea maybe he shouldn’t gain so much attention despite being scared to his witts at the moment ‘ , he felt an arm grab him.

The bug was still too far of a reach to attack him but the thought of having so many all around him sent his mind into a rapid frenzy and his skin crawled with chills. His mind didn’t even comprehend that a mosps was physically incapable of holding onto his arm like that or call his nickname our before he roared a sentence he’ll regret later in the near future.

Get off me!” he yanked his arm away with such brute force and stepped a few steps back. His face dropped the moment he landed on the 3 people in front of him.

For a few seconds, his face displayed a clear face of a mix of bewilderment, and distress. What were they doing here? Did they hear his screaming? Why did they come? The thought that they came him for him filled him up with unshakable dread that his visibly face paled.

There was a flower obsessed mosp coming straight at him and now because of his thoughtless actions, they were dragged into his mess and it ate his heart out to know this was all his fault. It was a slap to the face that brought him back down to reality.

やれやれやれ。。。” he gritted his teeth. His voice uncharacteristically chilly as his hand found its hand to his hair and tugged, frustration evident in his eyes, pushing down the forgotten hat he had on him unto to grassy floor. This was all his fault. Kara and Lei should’ve been enough, but why did his selfish self had to pull down Althea and Percival too. If only he had pushed them away earlier. He detested how weak his emotions felt at the moment. How weak he was.

The distress, the worry, the agitation, the guilt, all scrambled up in his frantic mind making his mind unable to be clear enough to think straight. Despite the flurry if emotions, he was certain of one that. And that was that he needed them gone. Away from him, away from the mosp.

I never...asked for your help, damnit !“ He seethed at the group, taking a few more steps back to show how serious he was. They had only seen him in his best mind. The cheerfully annoying Hanako Tone. The one who takes everything as a joke and becomes a joke to have more laughs.

The one that recently screamed at them, with his usually mischievous eyes now blazed with anger, with lips once grinning with innocent charm drew back in a nasty snarl, the one they’re seeing right now. Hanako wondered, if they thought he had changed into another person.

He wasn’t one to show his unpleasant emotions. But he was beyond furious. Whether it was at him, or his companions, it didn’t matter. Because they were all directed to the people that never deserved it. The one that deserved so much better.

Before he could stay for their response to his hostile attitude, a spell flew towards the mosps mosps 13 that tried to attack Hanako.

He scanned the area to find the source of the attack and saw an older senior a few feet away from them. Hana had never seen the dude before, Adam Harrington but if his bubble of frustration hasn’t popped, it certainly did now.

GOD AS IF I DIDN’T HAVE ENOUGH S-” To top of the immature way he dealt with his guilt, he was beyond agitated that he was once again, saved against his own will. Taking one final glance at his group, he seemed sad for a second but before he could be observed more, he took out his wand and made a run towards the area where his so-called savior was about to be whooped by a mosps, leaving the group as he ignored the guilt that somehow still resided in his chest.

This was for the best. He’ll deal with the aftermath later. For now, with sudden adrenaline, he would just focus on how to avoid being in debt to a senior.

As the giant insect (mosp 9) was moving towards her, Lydia prepared herself to hit it with as much force as she could. She did not expect Aaron to try and kick the mosp, so when she saw him starting the kick, she widened her eyes, sure that her friend would have managed to hit the beast. Unfortunately the mosp had moved away, or probably because of the little light present Aaron had miscalculated the distances, and it kept flying towards the blue-haired girl. Filled with determination, Lydia swung her improvised bat at it, hitting it hard and making it slightly move away.

A big smile appeared on her face as she succeeded in her attack, and she almost cheered if only the mosp wouldn't have started buzzing angrily, the stingers aimed towards her. She just had the time to duck under it, the insect flying over her head and missing her, before she registered what Aaron was saying: they needed to alert the professors back in the castle, and they needed the fireworks for that. She nodded towards him, and just as she had started walking towards the back of the stage, she heard another angry buzz coming towards her. Another mosp (mosp 14) flew towards her, its stingers ready to be used, but Lydia managed to move out of the way; she looked back at how both of the mosps, visibly upset, started moving in her direction again.

This time though, she didn't just stay there, paralysed by fear: she had a mission to complete. Lydia started running as fast as she could towards the fireworks, leaving her beloved music-stand-bat on the floor, and as she finally reached the two "safety" ones - they had red sparks inside, just like the periculum charm - marked differently from the other ones, she light up a match and moved it close to the two strings of the fireworks. The strings caught fire, and she slightly moved away from them, hoping that they would properly light up, and therefore go up high in the sky and alert any professor in the castle.

As she was looking at the fireworks, Lydia realised that the buzzing from the mosps had gotten louder, and only then remembered about the two insects coming for her. This time she didn't have anything to attack them with, so all she could was stare at them, feeling the panic inside of her as the creatures got closer and closer.

Because of all of this, the red blue haired girl did not realise that the lights had come back, or that there were more than two people in flames at the ball, all her focus was on the giant insects bee lining towards her.

Uh oh.

Adam's attempt to knock the buzzing creature out of the air had failed, and he watched in dismay as both of his spells went wide, leaving his target airborne and angry. Dangerously quickly, it turned around and advanced on him, flailing its stingers viciously. Adam's heart raced in fear as one of the stingers lashed out at him, and the Ravenclaw boy lurched backwards just in time to avoid the worst of the impact. He felt a small burn -- almost an itch, really -- in his leg and glanced down to see a hole in his pants. The stinger had torn through the fabric but only nicked the skin beneath, thankfully. It didn't even look like it would leave a scar. He'd really gotten lucky.

Of course, he doubted that the bug-creature was going to give up after one blow. Adam snapped his head back up to face it, glaring it down and tightening his grip on his wand. All of the offensive spells that he knew only seemed fit for human targets; he couldn't imagine the Sneezing Hex or the Curse of the Bogies working on this sort of beast. Adam had to kill it somehow, or at least incapacitate it, and he was quickly running out of options. There had to be something he'd learned, something he could use to get the upper hand. He just had to think!

As Adam's mind back-tracked through three years' worth of lessons, the faint sounds of an argument met his ears from behind the flying creature. He'd nearly forgotten about the group of first-years after getting wrapped up in the fight. Adam had hoped that they'd run away while he was distracting the creature, but that didn't seem to be the case. In fact, it was the opposite: letting his guard down briefly to glance at the other students, Adam saw one of them heading in his direction with wand outstretched. He was going to get himself killed! It wasn't like Adam was that much older (or more knowledgeable, really) but he knew that he could take a hit. What if the creature hurt that first-year? What if it killed him? Adam didn't want to carry that burden!

He took a deep breath and forced his gaze back on the creature, narrowing his eyes at it. He hadn't been able to slice through the wings, but the Severing Charm was still an extremely useful spell, and it might still come in handy if Adam could keep his aim steady. The bug-creature had lots of appendages that made good targets -- those stingers, for example. The blond boy knew it wasn't smart to try to cut through both of them again, but even if he could get rid of one, it might weaken the creature. That was looking like his best option. Unless...

He had another idea, a considerably more gruesome idea, but it had potential. Adam took another deep breath to try and steady himself, reminding himself that he was acting in self-defense. He doubted those things had souls or feelings -- they were monsters. They had crashed the ball and threatened the students. This was what had to be done.

Pulling his wand up from the menacing stingers to the creature's glinting right eye, Adam resisted the urge to flinch away. There was a chance that this was going to be very gross, if the spell hit where it was supposed to. He had no idea what kinds of fluids or...blood, or something...were going to come gushing out of the eye if he cut it open. Still, for a chance to partially-blind the creature, it was worth it. There was still the problem of that first-year boy, though. If the creature started thrashing around, he could get hurt. Cupping one hand around his mouth, Adam shouted out a warning, hoping it would reach the other student. "You should get out of here! It's not safe!"

Hoping that the younger boy would rejoin his group and get away unharmed, Adam grit his teeth and turned to face the giant bug. "And you should go to hell! Diffindo!" He repeated his earlier movements, casting a singular Severing Charm to (hopefully) preserve some accuracy. Admittedly, Adam didn't have a plan past this action. He hadn't had a plan going in, though, so that was nothing new. If the bug got blinded, he would find some way to finish it off, or leave it behind to suffer. If he missed again, he'd run as fast as he could for the entrance. Adam wasn't sure how far luck would take him with those stingers, and he didn't want to find out.

Goddamn monsters. All they caused was problems.

If Astrea believed things had peaked earlier- which she didn't, anything could go wrong and there was no telling whatever monstrosity of a situation could happen in the dark- the appearance of the mosps paled in comparison to what about to occur in front of her. A brilliant burst of orange flame burst forth from the tip of Ana's wand, a torchlight that made the white glow of Lumos's scattered around the pitch like shimmery diamonds seem washed out and greyed. A grin was slapped onto Ana's fire-lit face at the successful cast, deep brown hair going copper under the warm light being thrown off from the vase of ebony flowers. A single yellow rose leapt out from under the flames and something inside of Astrea twisted.

The half-torn princess skirt surrounded Ana in a shimmery halo of pale pink contorted at the front at the same time the other took a step forward and Astrea's eyes widened in horror- and everything slowed. The other tripped, lit flowers seeming to suspend themselves in the air as they flew from her hands and began to freefall. The flames flickered and flared at the sudden change and before anything could happen there was a great fwoom-

A wave of light and heat poured directly onto Astrea's front, a sudden difference in light making her take a step backwards with her arm over squinted eyes as her every fight or flight response kicked in. A shiveringly cold chill ran up her spine in an electrifying chase against the severe temperature contrast- it was blisteringly hot this close and yet her back had never felt colder- as she stared down the scene directly in front of her in shock.

Piercing screams and the stench of burning made her physically draw her entire form back in frightened revulsion, the fire reflecting off bright eyes like silver and she got a flash of memory from the spider invasion- the smell of fire on hair, the dim grey fogginess, the agony-

But she could not lock up- fire and agony and oh dear god- if she did nothing then she would be no less than the coward creatures who dared to lay feud upon them under the shield of night. No less and yet with blood on her hands. The terrible wailing merged with the beat of freakish insect wings and the pounding of her chest to create a high ringing in Astrea's ears, drowning out the noise of the ball even as chaos unfolded in front of her very eyes.
