XXXXX𝓘t had been a long day and Mylo was tired. They had had a horrible night of sleep, having woken up at the ungodly hour of 4am and not being able to go back to their previous state of unconsciousness, at least it had given them a bit more time to prepare themselves for the classes they would have that day. That had pretty much the only good thing about the day.

Firstly they had forgotten to bring their notebook to charms, forcing him to resort to writing their notes on a loose piece of paper which they had then somehow lost, even with them having ever so carefully stored it within their bag.

Then after lunch he found out the hard way that the lid on his inkwell had not closed properly, meaning that when he took it out of his bag for their next lesson it had inevitably spilt everywhere, covering them and the floor beneath him in a layer of black water. At least part of that hadn't been too much of a problem to solve as a simple scouring charm had cleaned up most of the mess, and they had been wearing their black trousers so the wouldn't have been stained either way, at least not noticeably. Fortunately their trousers had also been easily dried with the hot air charm so they didn't have to endure their lesson trying to ignore the feeling of damp fabric on his skin.

This all however paled in comparison to the incident that had occurred just after tea, as it seemed that the universe was hellbent on making sure Mylo didn't have a moment of peace. Mylo had been making their way down towards the potions classroom as they had nearly finished all of their doses of burn healing paste, and although it wasn't an emergency medicine it was still nice to have on hand just in case. So they had decided to use their evening time brewing a potion they had brewed many many times before, so many times in fact they could probably do it in their sleep, and one of the few times during potion brewing that he actually felt comfortable and relaxed. It wasn't one of their best subjects, often being forced to redo potions multiple times before they got it right, so they usually didn't find much pleasure and relaxation while doing so.

So when they heard a ripping sound and felt the weight on their back rapidly decreasing Mylo's stomach dropped to the floor. Of course today was the day their bag had finally decided to give up, scattering all their belongings over the ground, it was only by pure luck that the ink pot that had previously been targeting Mylo's sanity had decided to leave him alone and not spill it's contents everywhere. The same however couldn't be said for all of the rest of his belongings, the pencil case they carried around which contained their art supplies had somehow landed perfectly as to allow every single item to roll in different directions, the bottle of water they carried around had cracked right down the side and was starting to leak water onto the steps below causing a tiny river to form, mother nature finding ways to make herself known even when not out in nature.

Mylo just sighed, it had been one of those days and this was just the cherry on top. Bending down to pick everything up he nearly stumbled over a pencil rubber that had rolled over to his feet, which would have caused him to tumble down the stairs had he not been able to catch himself in time. Once he had finally gathered all his things, repaired his bag with a quick spell and tidied everything up again he continued on his journey, determined not to let any of the previous events spoil his down time. (He could already see his best friends, @Avis Greymond and @Maisie Gemmell, rolling their eyes at him for considering brewing potions and doing their homework as down time. At least the thought had put a smile on his face.)

Luckily they were on their way to brew something they found relaxing. If they had had to brew any other potion he would've not chosen to do so that evening, it was only due to the fact that they were so familiar with this potion and had thought that they could do it in their sleep that they had found themselves in this situation.

Closing their eyes, taking a deep breath and attempting to ignore all of the emotions that were starting to bubble up in them Mylo once again took a look inside the cauldron, foolishly hoping to see the thick orange paste they had seen many times before. Instead it seemed like their own annoyance at the day had seeped into the potion, contaminating it and turning it an angry red instead of the calming orange it was supposed to be.

"How? How on earth has this happened?? I have made this potion dozens of times, and each time it turned out perfectly, I did absolutely nothing different!?" His brain screamed, thoughts racing as to how on earth a potion they had brewed so many times before had suddenly seemed to have turned its back on him. Maybe they had grabbed a wrong ingredient? Maybe someone had mixed up the labels or put something back in the wrong spot?

"Or maybe your luck has run out, your incompetence finally breaking through it's thick foliage" A small voice piped up in the back of his mind. Normally Mylo would easily be able to block it with the voice of his father reasoning that everybody made mistakes, and that if he had done something perfectly dozens of times that it couldn't have been luck or a fluke. But today was different, today wasn't a good day.

If he'd have been able to block the voice with reason Mylo would've likely found himself packing up his things and heading back towards the dorms, realising that they were in no place to be brewing potions that could go very wrong with just one misread instruction, but they couldn't and thus he found himself with an urge to prove the voice wrong. That what had just transpired wasn't incompetence, that he had just made a mistake, something he too was allowed to do.

They still had more than enough time before curfew to make another batch, so that's what they were set on doing. After cleaning up their station, not noticing the puddle of flobberworm mucus that had dripped onto the floor besides their station, Mylo grabbed all of the things they needed, taking extra care to make sure they were grabbing all the right things, double and triple checking the ingredients instead of solely relying on the labels in front of them.

Once they were sure they had everything Mylo took once last look over the workbench in front of them, doing one last check to see if they truly hadn't missed anything or grabbed a wrong ingredient. Finally happy with what he could see in front of him they moved over to the side of the table, grabbing the knife on the way so that they could start chopping up the seaweed for the potion.

However it seemed like the previously unperceived puddle of mucus had gotten tired of being ignored, or maybe the universe was trying to punish Mylo for not tidying up enough, as it certainly made itself know by placing itself directly under Mylo's foot causing him to slip and fall to the ground.

Mylo's instinct when feeling the ground beneath their feet slip away was to grab onto the first solid thing he could reach, grabbing onto the work stations edge to stop his descent and help him stand up straight again. Unfortunately the edge of the table wasn't the only solid thing Mylo had grabbed onto in their unconscious action, as once they were upright again he finally registered the sharp pain in their hand which was shortly followed by a clanging sound as the knife they had previously been holding onto had removed itself from where it had lodged it blade into Mylo's palm and gracelessly fell to the floor.

The next thing Mylo registered was the soft intermittent splashing sound that their brain only registered seconds later came from the droplets of blood that were falling from the gash in their hand. It was quite fascinating how the blood collecting in their palm resembled their failed attempt at a familiar potion.

Both angry reds caused by their own hands, neither intentional, both happening due to a desperate need to stop harm from happening. Two instances that were supposed to do good in the right hands had found themselves with Mylo's hands.

Maybe his hands weren't the right ones.

Still the drops collected on the floor, the dark red puddle a stark contrast next to the green slime that had resulted in the unlikely meeting of the two fluids. Mylo just stared at it, almost in a sort of trance as droplet after droplet separated from their hand and joined the rest on the floor. The painful sting of the cut barely even registering in their mind, it being preoccupied with wondering how on earth he had landed himself in this situation. The only thing they found themselves capable of being a soft whisper.

╚════════════════════════ ❀•°❀°•❀ ════════════════════════╝

That morning, Rose had found a small handmade bracelet in the bottom of her trunk. She was digging for something else, a scarf she could have sworn she packed, and found it there at the bottom. Rose sat with it for a moment, staring at the thread, at the beads, at the craftsmanship of it all. Faith had always been crafty, loving to create every type of art at her fingertips. And she was good at it, too, randomly gifting beautiful pieces of art to her siblings and friends. Rose slipped it on her wrist, and the whole day, she fiddled with it, remembering her sister.

Rose had experienced bad days before. You know the kind- where from the moment you wake up, everything just seems to go wrong. The kind of day where you want to scream and cry and break down at the end (or maybe in the middle too) because it's all just too much.

Today didn't quite feel like that. Instead, it felt... quiet. It wasn't quite a good kind of quiet, but not necessarily bad, either. Heavy, but in the way that it sat on your chest, comforting if you let it be, suffocating if you didn't. Because it was comforting to grieve her sister, to feel her there with her, even if only in the form of a rediscovered bracelet. It was equally suffocating to know that this last term of schooling was one she never experienced. She wasn't nervous about what came after, not like Rose was. There was no looming uncertainty as she neared the end of her childhood. She knew exactly what she wanted to do, and that dream never happened.

And maybe, deep down, along with her being unsure about if everything was going to work out, along with her fear of leaving what she had always known, Rose felt guilty. Because why was she allowed to chase her dream when Faith never got a chance?

She knew it wasn't a bad thing to miss her sister, but it did make her a little absentminded. She let one of her friends borrow her textbook in Potions, and had forgotten to get it back before she was off to another class. That friend had told her later where they left it in the Potions room for her, and Rose was on her way to pick it up. Maybe when she was younger, she would have just pushed the feeling down, ignored it. But she let herself slow down, let herself have this quiet day, and she fiddled with the bracelet as she walked through the dungeons.

But as she peeked into the Potions classroom, expecting to find it empty, she stumbled upon a much different sight. It was her friend, Mylo. They were standing in a small puddle of some unknown liquid, but dark red drops seemed to be dripping from his hand. A cauldron sat on the desk next to them and a knife laid unceremoniously on the floor. It didn't take Rose long to deduct what could have happened- a simple attempt at a potion gone wrong- but her hesitation didn't lie in the situation itself, but rather Mylo's reaction to it. They stared at the bleeding hand, which must have hurt, unable to do much else than just stand there.

Rose was taken aback, her freeze reaction mirroring theirs, unsure. The logical thing to do seemed to be to try and stop the blood, to wrap the hand, to call for help. But Mylo, however logical she knew them to be, didn't do any of these things. She thought she recognized the look in his eyes, the distant dissociation that bore so much more heaviness than just this moment.

"...Mylo?" she said finally. She stood in the doorway, one hand on the frame, and tried to gauge their reaction, watching them for any clue that there was something else going on. But her gaze soon snapped to the blood dripping from their hand, and before she could even ask if he wanted help, she found herself walking into the room and fishing her wand out from her pocket. She waved her wand at the ground as she passed, barely muttering the siphoning spell under her breath, before taking Mylo's hand gingerly in her left hand. There was a certain familiarity in the way that she inspected the cut and pointed her wand at it, as if a sisterly instinct kicked in.

"Ferula," she murmured, a gentle tap from her chestnut wand conjuring bandages that wrapped themselves snugly around Mylo's hand. He would feel the pain go down as Rose's soft grasp on his hand released and the healing properties of the charm kicked in. "Is everything okay?" she asked.

Rose looked to the failed potion, a bright red, but every pressing incongruity seemed to be resolved, so her attention had now turned to Mylo's state. She was sure she knew the answer to her question, but she hoped she was mistaken, just reading her friend wrong, and they had just zoned out.

XXXXX𝓓rip

The sound of blood dripping onto the floor continued to fill the otherwise silent room, a rhythmic beat to accompany the absolute mess that was the inside of Mylo's mind. Somehow his brain was completely silent and absolutely racing at the same time, rendering him unable to do anything but continue to stare at the mess in front of them.

Had their mind been ever so slightly more coherent they might have been able to hear their brain screaming at them that they had to take care of the wound, that even though he had learnt magic that staring at it wouldn't stop the puddle below their feet from growing. Unfortunately he wasn't that coherent, the only thoughts they managed to catch as they formed in the silent noise being ones that probably weren't helping their situation.

I don't think it's supposed to bleed like that

What an absolute mess, I doubt the professor will appreciate you spilling everything everywhere

It's okay Mylo, everyone makes mistakes

How could you have messed up such a simple potion, you've done it so often

You need to make sure to clean this up before you leave

The few comforting thoughts that managed to cut their path through the dense fog promptly being drowned out by several not so comforting ones that steam rolled their way through, not that it would've matter much anyway as as quickly as the thoughts had entered they exited again, not allowing Mylo the time to register they had been there in the first place. Leaving them with nothing more than a vague feeling of wrongness, even that seeming like a distant emotion.

A soft touch barely registering in their mind prompted Mylo to acknowledge that the dark red layer that had previously occupied the floor beneath him had vanished, unconsciously prompting a quizzical look to flit across their face before they noticed a wand nearing his hand followed by white bandages covering their previous object of fascination. Even in this state Mylo knew they didn't have the ability to cast spells without stating their incantations, meaning that there was someone in front of them.

It seemed as though the logical part of his brain had finally managed to cut a path through the treacherous territory that was Mylo's mind, not having found it's rightful place in the front though but still having made enough progress to finally notice the shoes that were out of focus below his hand. Shoes that were connected to a person that Mylo recognised without any trouble, their gaze having travelled up from it's original downcast position, finally landing on the familiar face of one of their good friends Rose.

Maybe it was the familiar face, or the fact that their wound was slowly healing - Mylo still not fully registering the sting it should've been giving him - silencing the part of him that was worried about that, not that he had noticed that part in the first place, or more likely it probably was the concerned look on his friends face that finally broke Mylo out of the trance state they had previously found themselves in. Or at least partly.

As she asked if everything was okay Mylo looked at her with what was probably a blank look, their wound had been bandaged and was healing, the mess on the floor had been cleaned up and all their ingredients were still on the table ready to be used in the potion, there was nothing else he was missing right?

"I think so? It's healing and the mess is gone, I don't..... I don't see anything else that I messed up." Mylo answered plainly, looking around trying to figure out if there was anything else they had missed while being preoccupied with their previous predicament. Had the logical part of Mylo's brain been in charge he would've noticed how out of character they were acting to their normal reaction of either hyper focus into solving the problem or breaking down into a visible, or a poor attempt at concealed, panic at the situation. Their mind fully occupied with the way their voice sounded weird to their own ears, as if they were hearing it from outside their own body.

╚════════════════════════ ❀•°❀°•❀ ════════════════════════╝

Rose had always been somebody who wanted to help, who couldn't stop herself from doing everything she could for someone. She wouldn't want somebody to just walk by without helping her if she was in a sticky situation, so it seemed obvious to her to do the same for others, especially those she cared about. It sounded cheesy and very naive, but Rose just had to do the right thing; it was practically ingrained in her. Earlier in her schooling, a problematic blonde girl had shot her down for it, saying she poked her nose in places it didn't belong, and Rose couldn't help but hear Anastasia's voice in the back of her mind, even now. So even while a part of her prompted her to help, to help until she couldn't help any more, another part hissed that she was making everything worse, and that gave her pause.

But as she tried to aid her friend, Mylo barely seemed to realize she was there at all. It was only when the puddle beneath them was scrubbed away that he seemed to be able to pull himself out of his thoughts, slowly looking up to her eyes. They seemed to be slightly coming out of this strange trance, but still not their normal self that Rose knew. When Rose asked him if everything was okay, he didn't seem to understand her intent, affirming that the mess was cleaned up.

That what they messed up was cleaned up. Rose could practically smell the self-deprecation in the way that he worded it. Maybe she was overthinking it, but it was pretty clear to her that they were beating themselves up about something- maybe this, maybe something else that this only exacerbated, maybe something a lot bigger.

"That's not..." what she meant. Rose felt the words catch in her throat. Her mission by coming in here and cleaning up hadn't been to just tidy the potions room. She had set everything right that was obviously amiss in the classroom in order to focus on her real concern: her friend. That's what she had meant in asking them if everything was okay, but Mylo seemed to be so far away, he couldn't really understand that. She tried to think of something right to say. That it was just a mistake. That everybody made mistakes. But she was pretty sure he already knew that, and didn't know if voicing those things would even be appreciated. She even wondered if she should just give them a hug, just take Mylo in her arms and wait for the Ravenclaw to be pulled back to reality, but she didn't want to overstep. Mylo was already a fairly sensitive kid, and she couldn't bring herself to overwhelm him more than this situation probably already had.

Rose shook her head, deciding instead to clarify her question and just ask outright what she had been trying to pull out of him before. "I wasn't asking about the mess, I was asking about you. Are you okay?" Her voice stayed steady, still gentle as she watched him, trying to discern anything she could from Mylo's mostly blank expression.

XXXXX𝓐s Mylo's gaze drifted back towards Rose after scanning the room to answer her previous question they knew he had said something wrong.

Everything was wrong.

The way their normally busy but manageable thoughts seemed to be flying through his head without a care that Mylo had actually caught them, although that was probably a good thing with what some of those thoughts contained.

The way every movement seemed to feel foreign, as though there was another Mylo controlling their body and he was just spectating from the passenger seat, feeling, seeing, hearing everything a split second after it actually happened.

The way they couldn't hear their always present parents in his mind, letting him know that it was okay. Their comforting voices having been drowned out in a sea of chaos, threatening to consume him and drag him down into it's murky depths.

He couldn't understand why what he had said was wrong though, Mylo had told the truth; everything that had happened in the moments leading up to them standing here had been their own fault, and now that Rose had come in and fixed their mess everything in the room was the way it was supposed to be.

However the look on her face had confused Mylo just enough to allow the rational part of his mind to force itself slightly more towards it's rightful place at the forefront of Mylo's mind. Which allowed her next words to become not just words, but a bullet which ripped it's way through the fog in Mylo's body, clearing a path through the previously impenetrable minefield.

They were absolutely not okay.

As soon as her words and their own realisation registered in his mind a wave of emotions washed over them, the barrier that had previously been keeping the feelings at arms length - maybe in an effort to protect Mylo from the onslaught - having been shattered to pieces.

It was as though he had been forcefully shoved back into the drivers seat and Mylo wasn't sure if he was thankful for it or not, as they were immediately overwhelmed by all of the sensations they were feeling in his body. Which found a singular way out as they were still kind of shocked into physical stillness.

With tears starting to make their way down his face Mylo managed to push out an answer to Rose's question, their voice, although not sounding as muffled as it had been, sounding small even to his own ears. Their body unconsciously leaning forward slightly, maybe as if to curl up on themselves or to unknowingly seek out the comfort of a hug.

"I- I don't know."

╚════════════════════════ ❀•°❀°•❀ ════════════════════════╝

The redhead couldn't take it anymore when her friend started crying. She took Mylo into her arms, hugging them. Though he was quite a few years younger than her, he wasn't all that much shorter than the seventh-year. Even so, there was a protectiveness in the way she embraced him that made him seem so small in her arms.

I don't know. That's what they had said. But Rose was pretty sure that wasn't true, that he did know. But it was so vulnerable to be honest about that, almost taboo in the world they lived in. There was some sick kind of mindset that if you weren't dying, you shouldn't be so dramatic as to admit you're not okay. But Rose found this perspective helped just about nothing, especially when you were having a hard day. And maybe with the development of psychology and mental health awareness, their generation was moving away from the suck-it-up mindset, but Rose still felt the pressure of it, even in the way that she treated herself.

And yes, a certain level of compartmentalization was healthy. It wasn't a useless skill to be able to finish a test and then go to the bathroom and cry, but bottling everything up to a certain extent could certainly lead to... this.

"Hey, it's okay," she said, her voice hopefully soothing him. She wanted him to feel better, of course. But as it was clear that this was the result of not just this one circumstance, but likely many piled up throughout the day. So even more than she just wanted him to feel better, she hoped to comfort him. To help him realize that he wasn't alone and he could feel this, because feeling through it was often the only way out. "Do you wanna talk about it?" she asked, pulling back to look at him, her hands on his shoulders.

XXXXX𝓦ith Rose's arms wrapping around Mylo the last of the wall came crumbling down. Her kindness dismantling the last remnants of the barrier that had been a misguided attempt at protecting Mylo from themselves, making space for everything that had been kept at arms length to find it's rightful place again.

It was painful.

But it was necessary.

Tears continued to fall as their emotions tried to escape, making room for more to take their place. It was like an endless army had made Mylo's body their battle field, a constant onslaught of sensations ripped through him. New ones replacing old ones as they escaped their confines, Mylo's 14 year old body no where near big enough to contain it all, not that the army cared. It was endless after all.

It just kept sending in reinforcements.

Until there was nothing left to take, no part of their body that wasn't wrecked with emotion. No part that had ended untouched by the onslaught of feelings that had marched through, uncaring as to if they belonged there.

Because of course they did. Mylo felt with every inch of their body, cared with every ounce of their being. And somehow their feelings had been denied that right, had been denied the one thing they had done since Mylo had been born.

They had been denied their right to feel.

They had not wanted to feel

Mylo's body wracked with sobs as Rose's arms replaced the barrier she had broken, one that afforded their feelings the space they needed.

One that didn't charge a fee for safety.

After a few beats their feelings settled down into their rightful place, bringing with them a sense of calm that had alluded Mylo for a while now. Their tears slowing down their pace, realising that they had space within their vessel to continue existing, they didn't need a means of escape. Just a place to be acknowledged.

As though she sensed this Rose pulled back a bit, not allowing the new barrier to break, and asked a question Mylo wasn't quite sure they knew the answer to. They wanted to know, but as much as they had calmed down significantly they weren't sure if they could gather their thoughts enough to even figure out what had happened for themselves.

Bringing up their sleeve to wipe at their face he took a shaky breath, gathering just enough of the words floating around his head to produce a coherent sentence.

"I- I think it was a bit much?" Sniffling through the last of their tears, finding it quite difficult to produce much more than basic sentences. Feeling as though they were having to forcibly pluck the words from out their throat. "I don't know, it wasn't a great day." They managed to collect, hoping this would suffice as an answer.

╚════════════════════════ ❀•°❀°•❀ ════════════════════════╝

And Merlin, it just all came crashing out of them. Like a dam had broken and the waters were set free, violent and foaming as they rushed past everything in their path. The sheer weight of all a heart could handle was all released in that moment. Rose didn't know what to do at first. Should she just pull back and ask again what was wrong? Should she try to do something to make it better? There had to be some kind of calming spell or potion or something that could ease her young friend.

Rose pulled the kid a little closer as he started crying, her heart stinging at his tears. The redhead had been in dark places before. She had experienced hard days, where her mind and heart never seemed to agree or be able to function properly. She knew what it was to just keep going, just keep going, until you wonder if you really are going or just fruitlessly pushing against the current. She remembered moments like this where it had all come out, where hours of holding back tears were finally rewarded with a breakdown, and everything flashing through her mind could finally be given the attention it had demanded all day.

In those moments, Rose wished it could all be fixed. She wanted to take back all the things she had done wrong and all the times she failed. She wanted to erase all the times she'd been hurt. She wanted her dad back, she wanted her family whole, she wanted her sister back. But none of those things were possible, and there was nothing she could do to what had happened to Mylo.

In those moments, she didn't want to feel better. She couldn't fix what had happened, and she didn't want to pretend anymore like it hadn't. She didn't want to forget it, despite all the grief in her heart, because the pain that kept her up all those nights was the precious remains of what was lost. She didn't want it all to be gone, to be healed, to be sewn up nice and pretty.

In those moments, she just wanted to feel safe. She wanted to let it go. And she wanted somebody. So instead of fixing it or trying to do anything, Rose did what she would have wanted in the moments she couldn't hold it all back.

She just held them.

She really hated hearing them cry. Whatever had happened, the redhead would've jinxed it into next week if she could, but as he calmed down and was able to loosely articulate why he was so distressed, she realized she couldn't exactly get revenge on a day. She grimaced, "I'm sorry, Mylo. I know sometimes bad days just... can't be helped." There really wasn't much she could say to fix the overwhelming day that loomed above them, each little thing that had happened all adding up to invoke these tears.

She turned her head on its side in an attempt to look them in their eyes, searching for Mylo's blue gaze. "You're a good kid, okay?" she said. The concern she had was clear in her wide emerald eyes and her soft voice. She didn't know if her words would help, but she had to say something. She had to put some truth into Mylo's thoughts, because frankly, she didn't know if she trusted him to think it themselves. "It's okay to make mistakes and have a bad day. Don't deny yourself feeling anything you need to, but don't let this day get the best of you, either. You're too awesome for that. Okay?"

Rose's gaze drifted from her young friend just long enough to take a quick look around the room. "Why don't we get something to eat?" she suggested. While not an overarching cure, Rose found that food could often help to heal a myriad of problems. Fueling one's body often helped it to function better, and for some, helped sleep come quicker. "Have you ever been down to the kitchens? It's a lot quieter down there than the Great Hall."

If Mylo agreed, the two would quickly clean up Mylo's workspace and head over to the kitchen, the grace of the house-elves to let them eat there allowing the duo a much calmer atmosphere in which to eat dinner. She kept an eye on her young friend, making a note to check on them a couple times in the following days. Sometimes a bad day really was just that- a bad day. But with their time attending the same school waning, Rose refused to waste a second taking her young eagle friend, as well as their refreshingly quiet and thoughtful presence, for granted.

ometimes bad days just couldn't be helped

It was something their dad would've said had he been here, the thought of his family bringing a fresh wave of tears to the surface. Not wanting to break down again though Mylo quickly wiped them away, taking a deep breath to steady themselves and return to the semi-stable position they had miraculously found themselves in.

The defensive attempt was absolutely decimated though as Rose's next words shot through every single defence they had managed to put back up.

You're a good kid, You're a good kid, You're a good kid, You're a good kid

The words like bullets in their mind, tearing down the walls they had built back up. Bringing another fresh set of tears with them, this time however Mylo didn't do anything to stop them. There wasn't much point as his friend kept talking, sending more bullets through and pulverising everything in sight.

Not a single thought survived the onslaught, not the good ones or the bad ones. However as Rose took a small break from tearing Mylo's mind to shreds (in a good way) and the dust of the massacre in their brain settled a singular thought had managed to survive.

It's okay

As much as they managed to somehow convince themselves that everything was wrong, that nothing was ever going to be okay again, that they always messed everything up, their friends words had revealed a singular unbreakable brick that had been planted in Mylo's brain since birth.

A life motto that their parents had instilled in them from the moment they laid eyes on him, that they had continuously reinforced over the 14 years of his life. So much so that nothing could touch it, no matter how much other stuff had collected on top of it.

It was okay to make mistakes. It was okay to not be okay.

It was okay.

As long as they tried again. As long as they asked for help and recognised that it was okay.

The suggestion of food seemed to trigger something in their mind as only then did Mylo realise that, even though they had already eaten their dinner, the breakdown had taken a lot more energy than they had thought it would. Looking back over to the friendly face before him a tentative smile started to appear on his face again, the care in which she suggested a calmer place to eat calming the last of their mind and allowing them to finally feel a semblance of peace.

For the rest of the evening - even as they cleaned up the last of the mess together, the spills attempting to bring back unpleasant memories - nothing bad seemed to be able to get through to them. The quiet of the kitchen seemingly making the meals taste even better than normal, or maybe it was the company. Whatever the cause it was good, they would always have bad days but at this precise moment they knew even if it did happen again it would be okay. That they had people around them who could help and that they weren't alone.

It was going to be okay.
