For Errand : Relay Race
Participants : Cassandra Ironwoods | @Lizzie Verdine | @Mars T'ien
It is unusual for them. It is not an every day thing that Cassie woke up much earlier from what they used to (well except if they have Morning Class or if they need to work on their assignments). Cassie ripped out the blank and silver blanket that cover them and their bed in their dorm room.
They look left and right, only some of their door mates already woken up and left the bed. Cassie heard some days ago that Professor Jensen and Professor Kibitzer hold an errand for students to participate. With new energy Cassie prepare them self to check out the errand what is that all about.
They put on their sport attire that their Mom sent a few days ago. Cassie spread open the top that they about wear and can not help to let out a laugh. Cassie shakes their head. The sleeveless top fit perfectly onto their body. Then Cassie put on the shorts that they brought. The running shorts have the same pattern like the top.
Cassie put on black socks and their running shoes. Their Mother also sent neon green sport bandana with matching wrist bands. Cassie pocketed it. 'You always have come to prepare' That what the little note with their Mother handwrites said. Cassie then grab black cardigan and training pants to covered what they wear then they out of their dorm and Common Room.
Upon arriving at the Ground, the morning Spring air breezes nicely and hits Cassie gently. From the distance the Quidditch hoops can be seen. Some students that Cassie passed by, notice the pattern of their shorts. Cassie smirks at that and confidently walks toward the Qudditch Training Pitch. Cassie sees there are three other teams beside them.
One of them they knew it when they participate on the Ground playing Tug o' War and they met once during lunch break. Cassie looks at their surrounding. On the pitch there are three different obstacles. A small hurdle run, a set of monkey bars, and a rope net to climb over. Cassie knows that they will conquer the obstacles but they can not do it alone.
When it comes to sports activities that need legs endurance and strength, you will want Cassie to be on your team. There is also a subtle muscle mass in their arms. Cassie is light on their feet. Not far from there, Cassie see Professor Kibitzer and Professor Jensen standing by. "Morning, Professors"Cassie approaches and greets both Professors.
Cassie then shed out the outer wears that they wore, fold and stacked it nicely on the side line of the field. Cassie move their head, shoulders, arms, hands, hips, ankles, and feet with a small warming up routine that their Mom teaches them how to do it properly. "You do not want to pull a muscle, Cash. That is why you should do this"Their mom stated while showed it to them how to do it awhile back ago.
After Cassie feel like they done enough warming up, Cassie run back and forth on the side line to warm up their body against the gently cool breeze of Spring air. Cassie huffed and panted when they done it and suddenly feeling foolish that they forgot to bring any water with them. Cassie hope one of their team mates will bring sport bottle with them.

The sunlight streamed through the window next to their bed, casting a bright glare over Mars' face. They groaned. They were a morning person, sure, but they'd also destroyed their brain with Charms homework the day prior, and right now, sleep felt like the only answer in the world. They flicked a single eye open, cursing at the sunlight.
Sitting up with hair still messy from bed-head, they pushed their locks flat, yawning, and looked around. The curtains to their bed were still closed. Groggily, they pulled one open and got to their feet. The Ravenclaw dorm room was barely awake, only a couple witches here and there shuffling around, rubbing their eyes. The moment their feet touched the ground though, Mars felt more awake. They padded over to their trunk and pulled out a couple of robes. What to wear today? Snickering at their thought process, they threw a couple over the top of the trunk. There was barely any difference in them all anyway.
Musing, they laid a hand over one. Then, staring at the silky material, they couldn't shake the feeling that they were forgetting something. Something important. Sitting back on their heels, they racked their brain. What was it?
Ah! Right. Mars hurriedly put the robes back into the trunk and knelt down to grab something from under their bed. A few days ago, Cassie had offhandedly mentioned something about a relay race during band practice. Instantly, they'd been intrigued. They jumped at the chance to do anything physically. They'd always been slender, but strong, with excellent stamina. It didn't hurt that they'd spent hours chasing their brothers all around the streets of Newchurch, following their shrieks of joy as they played one too many games of tag. Besides, Mars had a hunch that a relay race might challenge some of their—more magical classmates. It never hurt to watch cocky wixes trip over their own shoelaces.
Pulling out their favorite running outfit, Mars ran their fingers along the silky fabric. There really was nothing like muggle clothes. Running off to the bathrooms, they hurried to get changed. They hoped no one was scared of midriff.
----
Ultimately, they'd grabbed a spare tank top to carry under their arm as they raced down the stairs. They didn't feel much like being dress-coded, if that was a thing in Hogwarts. They stopped by the kitchens, wondering about water bottles. It was never good to be dehydrated before a race.
Mars tapped on a passing house-elf's shoulder, giving them a polite smile.
"You wouldn't happen to have any water bottles, would you? I know it's a weird request but—" they were interrupted by the house-elf nodding and whisking away. Mars stood in the same place, waiting for him to return. They always tried to make a point to not ask for too many things, and if they had to, to be polite about it. Nothing was worse than running a retail job.
In a flash, the house-elf had returned, three large water bottles full of ice and liquid. Mars looked at them, taking them carefully from the house-elf.
Thank you, but I only need—" the house-elf had disappeared. Mars sighed and juggle the water bottles, arranging them in a way to make them easier to hold. Well, maybe Cassie or Lizzie would need one.
----
When they'd finally gotten out onto the Quidditch field, Mars could already see three other teams warming up. They scanned the field, taking each event into careful consideration. There was a hurdle run, a set of monkey bars, and a net to climb over. Mars smirked a little. Cassie had said it would be a small relay race but—well, it was a muggle relay race built for wixes, they supposed.
Mars could see Professor Jensen and Professor Kibitzer standing at the beginning of the course, holding stopwatches. Well, that wasn't intimidating at all. It was a nice day for a relay race, cool but still sunny. Mars wondered if there'd be spectators.
Finally, they spotted Cassandra. Jogging over, they set the two spare water bottles down, taking a swing from the other.
"Here," they mentioned to Cassie, pushing over one of the water bottles, "One of the house-elves gave me an extra."
The Slytherin was stretching—not a bad idea. Pulled muscles and cramps were no fun. Copying their friend, they pushed a themselves into an easy calf stretch. The wind blew through their hair and they swept it out of their face absentmindedly. This would be fun. Their stamina probably wasn't the same as it had been, living in Newchurch, but the large gap of time spent skipping breakfast left plenty of room for morning runs. They probably weren't that bad.
Mars eyed the other teams. In all honesty, for wizards who'd probably grown up with some degree of magic-exposure, they didn't look half-bad. Mars flashed a toothy grin. Good. Everything was better with a little competition. They were still confident anyway; Cassie was quite athletic in their own right and they'd always been more than the same, long legs and graceful movements.
"So, did you decide which event you want or are we waiting for Lizzie so we can decide as a group?" they fell into a hip-stretch, asking the question over their shoulder. They gave Cassie another smile.
"You look good, by the way."

It was another lovely day. The crowds were cheering for someone in front of them. There was a stage was covered in cameras. There stood a blonde girl with brown eyes. She was holding a guitar while lifting an arm and heavily breathing due to lack of oxygen. They were grinning like an idiot and closing her eyes while listening to the screams and shouts of her fans. They loved her.
They listened to her. It was a miracle. She always knew the day would come when it was true. She was now a proper musician. It was a dream come true. Lizzie finally sighed and swung her arms next to her body. He mission had been accomplished. It was then that her life was about to begin.
The Ravenclaw blonde sat up quickly from her bed. It was just a dream. She lingered there smiling to herself for a while wishing it was going to become reality then gasped. It was the day of that relay race at the Quidditch Training Pitch. Cassie had asked her to join her and Mars on the obstacle course. Obviously, Lizzie had said yes due to her being quite physically fit but not enough for her to want to peruse it in a career.
She knew she was late. It was a habit of her when she needed to be somewhere early it never happened. Normally being twenty to half an hour late. She whipped her head around looking for a clock of some sort. One of her room mates was a muggle-born and always had a clock next to her bed.
Lizzie sighed at the sight she was only going to be five minutes late at the least. It was going to be an accomplishment. A good one that could help her in the future. Who knew what could happen to her f she was late to an interview.
The charmer got up of her bed and grabbed some sporting clothes while sprinting to the bathroom allocated to her dorm. She looked into the mirror and smiled quickly and ripped of her pajamas. She then literally slapped on her leggings and top along with some trainers.
As fast as she good, Lizzie leaped down the stairs to her Common Room and jumped out of the door. It was a long way down. That defiantly would be her warm up. Maybe even her work out. The blonde tied her hair up very hastily huffing and puffing. It was normal to see Lizzie like this.
After around ten minutes of running through the castle on the grounds she ran onto the training pitch. She slowed down a bit when Cassie and Mars came into sight. Lizzie was worn out already but it wouldn't lower her spirits just yet. No it would not.
She walked over to them quickly and waved. "Hey. Sorry I'm late. I slept in again. So what are we doing?" She looked around watching some other people around the pitch and the professors on the sidelines monitoring the students.
It was a rare sight seeing so many people participate in races like that. When Lizzie was at home (London) she went to a few 'sport days' type things and hardly anyone ever went. She was a bit proud she could be in something like this at her school. It was also a reason to get out of the Common Room and do some exercise for once. Since she had come to Hogwarts she hadn't done any form of exercise at all. It was a bit annoying for the blonde Charmer.

In the middle of their warm up running on the side line of the field, Cassie saw that Mars entering the training pitch. When they done with the warm up, Cassie huffed and panted and feeling parched. So when Mars offer Cassie a bottle full with ice and liquid, Cassie gladly accept it. "Thanks"Cassie said their gratitude to the other wix.
They unscrew the cap and take a sip of two to quench their thirst. Cassie did not want take too much to drink before the race, afraid their stomach will cramp if they do so. While waiting for Lizzie both of the wixes do a small warm up. Mars do an easy calf stretch and Cassie just stretch their arms again to make sure that they did not pull a muscle.
"I think it would be wise to just wait for Lizzie so we can strategize better"Cassie told Mars. Cassie shielding their eyes from the brightness of the sun and look at the obstacles. The hurdle something that Cassie did not want to do, so their option just the monkey bar and the rope climbing. "Pfft! I look ridiculous"Cassie rebuffed.
With matching top and shorts also the neon green sweatband on their head also with the same tone on their wrists, they stick out from their team. Cassie loves their mother, they do but sometimes their mother can be a tad too much. Cassie understand the important of House pride but what they wear for today event, it is look like someone about to do the basic combat training.
Cassie shook their head at the absurdity. "You are not look so bad too"Examines Cassie to what Mars wear for the event. The top compliment the short that Mars wear and for showing their midriff, it is a bold move. Cassie has to applaud for that. A moment later Cassie can see Lizzie blonde head from the distance.
When Lizzie finally arrive in front of the Slytherin girl and her housemate, Lizzie seems a bit worn out. Lizzie said her apology why she's being late and asking what they will do for today. "Are you just get out of bed?"Cassie inquires their best friend. Lizzie hair a bit disheveled even though she tied her hair.
"Relay Race"Cassie informs Lizzie. "So here's what I've been thinking..."Cassie huddle their team mates to tell the other two the strategy for their team.
-----------
So here they are standing on each of every obstacles. For the hurdle run there's Mars standing and eyeing the obstacles. On the monkey bar, it is Cassie challenge to take down and on the rope net, the blonde Ravenclaw will finished it. Cassie hope their team is one of the fastest. Cassie then approached Professor Kibitzer and Professor Jensen.
"We are ready whenever you are, Profs"Cassie inform the professors and go back to their position. "Alright, lass. On my mark. 3.. 2.. 1.. go!"Professor Jensen shouted and Professor Kibitzer start timing it. When Professor shout, Mars start running. Cassie look back at the hurdle obstacle. Mars tackle it with grace and precision. Cassie in awe of Mars athleticism.
After Mars finished their course, Mars nudges Cassie. "Oh right"Cassie stated after they out from their reverie. Cassie jumped a little to reach the monkey bar. Standing at 5" 6' (172 cmn), Cassie start to swing from one bar to another. They almost slipped when about to reach the last one but they managed it.
Cassie runs a little bit to reach the blonde girl that waiting on the last obstacle. "Your turn, Liz"Cassie expressed to the blonde. Lizzie nodded her head and start climbing the rope net. "You got this, Lizzie!"Shouted Cassie from the ground when Lizzie halfway through the net.

When Mars set the water bottles down, Cassie shot them a thankful glance and then grabbed one, taking a few greedy sips. Mars watched as their throat bobbed up at down with a small smirk. The Slytherin set it down soon enough though. Smart, considering they were about to do exercise.
Offhandedly, Cassie mentioned that they probably ought to wait for Lizzie to strategize. Nodding, Mars dropped to the floor, stretching a leg out in front of them to get their hamstrings.
" You don't look so bad either," Cassie said. Mars grinned at them, feeling their spine curve as they leaned over their outstretched leg. They were glad the other wix liked their outfit. They certainly knew they looked good. There was nothing quite like flaunting a little midriff to boost one's confidence.
Mars looked around the stadium again, measuring the competition. This would be interesting. They spotted a couple of third years in the corner doing jumping jacks. Well. It would be tough to beat people who were older, definitely. But, no harm in trying.
When Lizzie's blond head finally popped into view, Mars had basically finished stretching. The Ravenclaw girl jogged up to them, a slight sheen of sweat already coating her forehead.
"Did you just get out of bed?" Cassie asked, shaking her head.
"Did you decide to take a tour of the entire school before coming here?" Mars added, eyebrow raised. Then, they laughed. Snatching the other water bottle on the floor, they offered it up to Lizzie from their seated position. "Kidding, sorry. This damn school still gets me turned around too."
They hopped up from their seat, doing a final stretch up with their back. Then, they started into a few warm-up jogs and then, sprints. It was never a good idea to go in cold. A word from Cassie had their attention turning back to the other wix.
"The relay race. So here's what I've been thinking..."
----
Okay. So, they had a game plan, more or less. Mars would go first on the hurdles, then Cassie on the monkey bars, and then Lizzie would finish them off with the net climb. Mars was quite confident in this lineup. They trusted Cassie on the bars with their visible biceps and Lizzie had a tenacity and drive that could hardly be beaten by anyone. Hurdles, though, that might end up interesting.
Mars had done track and field—if elementary school track can be considered as such—so they weren't unfamiliar with the things, but they'd only ever been a spectator. In principle, it seemed easy, but they knew better than that. Everything was harder in practice.
Jogging up to the start of the course with their teammates, they wave a friendly hello to Professor Jensen and Professor Kibitzer. They lined up at the start of the hurdles, watching as Cassie and Lizzie did the same with their respective event.
Faintly, they could hear the Slytherin tell the Professors the three of them were ready. A second later and Professor Jensen's voice punched through the heavy silence. Grinning, Mars set off, quick as a rabbit. They nearly missed the click of the stopwatch as it started its timer.
Ah. How long had it been since they'd done any kind of competition running? Quite a while, from the start of the school year to now, at the very least. They relished in the burn of their thighs as they neared the first hurdle. They didn't mind long distance, but this was where they thrived, in the fast-twitch muscles of the sprinting events. The shadow of the upcoming hurdle cast a tilted square over the ground in front of them. Midstride, Mars tried to remember the hurdle form. One leg forward, propel with the strong foot. They probably should have practiced beforehand. Oh well.
They reached the obstacle and jumped. Soaring through the air, their front foot made it over. However, their back foot did not. It nicked the tip of the hurdle, throwing them off-balance and sending them tumbling to the floor. Sh*t.
In the final second before they made impact, they threw their front foot down. It hit, steady but off-balance. They tipped to the side, but, reflexes kicking in, they slammed a palm down on the turf of the Quidditch field. And with that, they were off again, hardly a blip in their running form. The next hurdle neared and they cleared that one with ease. As they kept coming, it continued getting easier. Internally, they patted themselves on the back. Not bad for learning on the (literal) fly.
In the last fifty yards, it was as simple as a full-out sprint. Mars smiled, hitting the ground after the final hurdle and driving into the last leg. They started at maybe a forty-five-degree angle, but as they ran, they slowly righted themselves. When they broke through the finish line, they were completely upright, overflowing a couple of yards before skidding to a stop.
Before they let themselves catch their breath, they ran up to Cassie. The Slytherin seemed a little out of it, what was maybe a look of awe on their face. Mars, laughing, nudged at their arm. They snapped out of it and hurried to jump up to the monkey bars. Watching them latch on successful, Mars finally let themselves breathe. The fatigue rushed in as the adrenaline petered out.
Mars grabbed their water bottle, taking a few greedy gulps of the fresh liquid. It was cool running down their throat, immediately soothing their bones. The sun seemed to beat down on the field, sending beads of sweat running down Mars' face. With a moment hesitation and a glance at the water bottle, they shrugged, then proceed to dump half of the remaining contents onto their head. It worked its way past their sun-warmed hair to the nerves of their scalp, sending first a jolt of surprise, then one of satisfaction through their skull.
With dripping hair, Mars grabbed the wand they had discarded during the beginning of the race and went to stand next to the two professors. Professor Kibitzer eyed them warily as they twirled their wand aimlessly in their hand. Grinning, Mars raised both hands as if to say, "I'm not doing anything."
They turned their attention back to Cassie on the monkey bars. As expected, the Slytherin was doing amazingly, swinging between the bars like they'd been doing it their whole life. Mars wished they knew a voice amplifying charm.
"Come on, Cass!" they opted for instead, yelling at the base of their lungs. The Slytherin continued on, arms gracefully clutching each of the bars. Those muscles were certainly helping.
At the last bar, they seemed to slip. Mars watched nervously as they managed to right themselves, putting both hands on the ending bar and swinging down gracefully. They landed with a thunk. The Ravenclaw let out the breath they'd been holding and watched as Cassie went up to the last girl to set her off.
Lizzie climbed quickly up the net, near the halfway mark when Mars heard Cassie cheer. They were about to raise their voice as well when a painful twinge went through their wrist. They looked down at it. It had swollen up to double its size. Whoops. They must have messed it up during the hurdles.
They tried to rotate it gently. It flared up angrily, screaming its protests. Okay, not gonna do that again. Mars studied it for a minute and then let it drop back down to their side. Whatever. It wasn't that bad.
They jogged up to Cassie's side, eyes still trained on Lizzie's climbing form. Laying their good hand on the Slytherin's shoulder, they cupped their other around their mouth, carefully to only move their fingers and elbow.
"You got this, Lizzie!" they cheered. The wrist could wait. They had a race to win.

this was rushed so there isn't as much constancy as normal posts. I was just trying to get it doneinteracting with @Cassandra Ironwoods | @Mars T'ien
═ ∘◦❦◦∘ ═Lizzie knew they were doing the relay race. She was just trying to start a conversation with them to not make it even more awkward then it needed to be. Which was pretty far down the spectrum. She laughed a little and nodded her head quickly. "Yes. I did just wake up." She patted her hair in hopes of taming it.
"I ran from the Common Room." She said while taking a deep breath and gracefully taking the water bottle from Mars' hand. She smiled and took a big gulp. It was nearly time to start doing the Relay Race. She had already decided the rope climb would be the best.
Ropes never hurt Lizzie's hands. She had been playing the Guitar for to long to actually even feel pain on them. If someone pulled a rope through her hand while she gripped it, all she would feel would be a little tickle. It defiantly wasn't like that for the rest of her body though.
She was a bit over dramatic when it came to her body. For example, her arms or legs being scratched. She would normally sit down or roll on the floor saying she id going to die. It wasn't very often. It normally, when Lizzie was trying to be silly and funny.
She quickly turned to the course and smiled. It didn't look very hard. Except that is what she thought anyway. Cassie went to the Professors and told them they were ready. Lizzie took another deep breath and smiled. It defiantly was not going to be a breeze but she could not let her hopes to let down.
Mars quickly set of running over the hurdles while Lizzie took another gulp. By the time Mars finished the Ravenclaw blonde would have probably long finished her water. Mars threw her body over all of the hurdles. They obviously had been training for it.
Mars finished quickly and Cassie moved onto her monkey bars. Lizzie did have upper body strength but just not enough to hold her own weight. She had never been very strong. The only strength she had was the ambition in her brain which was also pretty weak. Unless it involved her music.
Cassie swung her arms forward and with every move they were closer to finishing. Which was good because Lizzie just wanted to go back to the Common Room and annoy some poor soul that was unfortunate to walk into her path.
The Slytherin finished and ran over to Lizzie nudged her arm a bit. She shook her head and ran of towards the rope climb. The blonde girl looked up and grabbed onto a rope. This probably wasn't the best idea because that course was also about upper body strength.
She quickly continued to climb while pulling herself up. She looked down and her eyes widened. It was a every far way down. She closed her eyes and held on while her two friends were cheering. She turned her head to look upwards and saw there wasn't that far to go.
Lizzie hollered herself up and smiled. She quickly made her way back onto the ground thankful she was now steady and not suspended in the air. That was one of the reasons she was never going to be on the Quidditch team. Her fear of heights.
All was good though. She had not hurt herself and she was sure no one had hurt themselves either. "Hey, guys." She said running back and grabbing the bottle of the floor, "That was amazing right?" She grinned taking a swing and falling to the ground.═ ∘◦❦◦∘ ═

Mars watched with a smile on their face as Lizzie finally made it to the top of the net. She hauled herself to the top and seemed to stall for a moment, looking down at the ground. Mars tilted their head to the side. A couple of rivlets of cold water ran down the side of their neck. Was she okay?
"Come on, Lizz! Don't stop now! they yelled up at her. She probably didn't hear them, but then, she also didn't stall for more than a millisecond. Quick as a flash, she scrambled her way down the net and hit the Quidditch field.
Cassie and Mars ran over to meet her at the water bottles.
"Hey, guys. That was amazing right?" she said, taking a swig. And then, she fell to the ground. Mars laughed at her, watching her blonde hair fan out around her head like a halo. They remained standing over her, deciding that grass stains just weren't their style. They chuckled. Well, Lizzie had said she was a hill-roller.
"Ya! You did great, Lizz," they smiled. The nickname just rolled off their lips. They hoped she didn't mind too much. The heat radiated off the ground, even under their shoes. They didn't under how the other Ravenclaw could stand it, but she looked pretty comfortable.
"You too, Cass. You both crushed it," they flipped their water bottle in their good hand, taking a sip, "I think we did pretty well for a couple of first years."
Their wrist throbbed. Sh*t. They'd forgotten about that. Looking down, it had swollen even further, turning an angry shade of red. A jolt of pain shot through it as they tried to roll it slightly. Well, that was kind of dumb. Sighing, they set on the water bottle down on the floor and grabbed their wrist in their other hand.
"Sorry," they sighed, wincing, "I think I screwed up my wrist doing my run."
Mars looked up at the castle. There was a hospital wing here somewhere right? Taking in the high stone walls, they knew wherever the hell it was, they weren't going to find it. They turned back to their friends.
"You two don't happen to know where the infirmary is, do you?" Cassie looked at them, saying they could show them up. Mars thanked them and looked back down at Lizzie.
"Wanna come?"
Lizzie seemed lost in thought. She startled out of her reverie, smiling sheepishly back at Mars. She was sing a small tune under her breath and Mars thought they could hear a word or two mumbled under her breath. The Eagle shook her head. They laughed.
"That's fine. You gotta make it big someday, so better not lose those ideas," they picked up their water bottle, gesturing to Cassie, "Ready to go?" Before they could respond, Mars realized something.
"Oh, we should go get our time first. My wrist can wait."
Hauling Lizzie off of the floor, the three of them walked back over to the professors to get their ranking.

When Lizzie's feet were on solid ground again and all tree obstacles were behind them, Professor Kibitzer blew the whistle, signalling the end of their time. She checked the watch in her hand, noting the time on a clipboard that she carried under her other arm. Placing it among the others in the list, the professor let out an appreciative whistle, stepping closer to congratulate the three girls on their performance.
"Well, ladies - you might not be the top of the list, but you might be our fastest group of all first-years," the professor said, flipping over the paper to look at the performance of some of the other students. It was difficult to rank poorly, considering what a job some of the students had done on the course - but these three had earned their victory, so the professor would not mention that. "Under a minute. Lost a little time on the ropes, but you didn't get yourself tied up in them - so that's an improvement over some."
Rosalind gave a smile to Lizzie, making sure she wasn't discouraged by the feedback. "Don't worry, that's the toughest obstacle at your age. You went through it like a champ."
She turned her gaze to Cassie, giving the girl who had the manners to greet her at the start of the event a smile as well. "Well done on the monkey bars. You're a natural with it."
And finally, Mars. "Very, very nice work covering those hurdles - you caught your foot a little, but you recovered impressively well." The professor looked down at the hot red shade that the poor girl's wrist had taken on since her big recovery - showing a sympathetic frown. "Well, you sacrificed what you had to for your time, there. No pain, no gain... but if you need any help getting to the Hospital Wing, I could leave Professor Jensen to take times for a little while."
With that offer out of the way, the professor took in the sight of the girls again, giving an approving nod for the group of them. "Impressive work, you three! Nice to see not every student of Hogwarts has arms made of jelly."

"Well, ladies - you might not be the top of the list, but you might be our fastest group of all first-years," Professor Kibitzer said, flipping over her paper. She seemed to furrow her brow, as if mildly appalled by what she read there.
Mars grinned. They'd kind of assumed. They hadn't paid much attention to the other groups, a little preoccupied with their own group and their wrist, but they'd heard a small commotion about a wix getting tangled in the ropes and also—most of Hogwarts was kind of dumb. They'd find a way to get into trouble somehow.
Welp, it wasn't as if Mars wasn't a little stupid themselves, but at any rate, they listened as the professor continued on.
"Under a minute. Lost a little time on the ropes, but you didn't get yourself tied up in them - so that's an improvement over some."
Ah, they were right. Mars high-fived Lizzie; the witch had done really well in their opinion, a great attempt for a first-year definitely. Professor Kibitzer smiled at the other Ravenclaw, encouraging her.
She turned to Cassie, complementing them on being quite the natural. A swell of pride had started at the first words of praise, but it inflated pretty far by now. Mars shook it away. Pride had never gotten them anywhere good. They offered a smile to the Slytherin and a high-five as well.
The professor finally turned to them, saying, "Very, very nice work covering those hurdles - you caught your foot a little, but you recovered impressively well." Mars beamed, a little bit of a smirk hidden under their flashy smile. They'd earned themselves two verys. Not a bad job for a little screw-up and a throbbing wrist.
Speaking of the wrist, Professor Kibitzer stared down at with a small frown. It certainly wasn't in the best shape, red and raw. Mars was glad they had a high pain tolerance, they would have killed if they couldn't have watched Lizzies or Cassie's runs. It throbbed now though, after being uncared for a short while. They really needed to get up to the hospital wing. If—they could find it.
"Well, you sacrificed what you had to for your time, there. No pain, no gain... but if you need any help getting to the Hospital Wing, I could leave Professor Jensen to take times for a little while," the professor said. Mars raised an eyebrow, a bit surprised. They didn't think the professor would be that invested in them. Then again, it was her job.
"Impressive work, you three! Nice to see not every student of Hogwarts has arms made of jelly."
Mars snorted. Yeah, wixes weren't really known for their physical prowess. Most of them, anyway.
"Thanks, it was fun! I haven't done track in such a long time so it was great to get back on the field. I'm glad you organized it," they replied, glancing over to the events where a set of wizards were stumbling their way through the course, "Even though the contestants were—less than ideal."
From their eye line, they moved from the wizards to the white-haired professor, stopwatch still in hand. Professor Jensen didn't really seem like the kind of witch who'd appreciate being left alone but—they turned back to the Professor of Divination.
"I mean, if you've got the time, I could sure use a guide. But only if you think Professor Jensen would actually be okay with being abandoned with a bunch of sweaty wixes."
[ Home, they said. I should like to go home. ]
