A Craft of Precision and Paper
Open to those wanting to do the Original Origami errand
Asteria strolled into the Great Hall. She was planning on just passing through but something was clearly happening so she stopped to take a closer look. Upon her inspection, she noticed a whole bunch of students that were making.... something with paper. Paper airplanes, perhaps? It was hard to tell what it was exactly but it interested the Ravenclaw girl.
She approached the tables to inspect it further. Hopefully not paper airplanes, those only led to trouble in her experience. Fairly quickly, she noticed that the papers were square and colorful, not the regular white type. It's probably origami then. Much better than paper airplanes. Her mind drifted back to memories of primary school that she would rather have forgotten.
To be fair, Asteria hadn't ever done origami before but it sparked her curiosity. That was why she went over to take a seat at the end of a table to attempt some origami. She chose a nice, light blue sheet of paper and browsed through the different tutorial choices. The raven looked good and would support her house but that wasn't very original, at least in her opinion. How about a dragon? So many choices!
She sighed and got to work, scanning over the instructions. If she did one wrong fold it would probably not look right so it was important that she should be precise if she wanted to make a proper-looking dragon.
As she continued, Asteria realized that origami was not nearly as easy as it looked, in fact, it was quite difficult. Her paper which was supposed to look like a dragon was ending up looking more like a strange, wrinkly, kangaroo-like thing, and that was when you squinted hard and used your imagination. Asteria discarded with the paper with a huff. It was too far gone to be salvaged at that point, at least in her opinion.
She grabbed another sheet, green this time, and got back to work. Why had she decided to do the most complicated-looking one, Asteria did not know but she had already committed to doing it. She wasn't going to give up that quickly.
After completing the first ten steps, it still wasn't looking like a dragon in the least bit. Probably because she had forty-six still to go. The paper felt almost sweaty in her hand from being worked with for so long. She kept going, motivated by the vision of a complete paper dragon. If she got through it, that was.

Looking around from her current spot at the Hufflepuff Table, she glanced over to see a group of students huddled around a table away. Papers of all sorts of colours were scattered around. As she tried to get a better look, a student had gotten up and began waving their wand. Seconds later, a bird appeared to have lifted from the table and began to take flight. It was amazing how well the student was able to control the moves of the bird as it swerved in and out, avoiding the candles and gliding around the hall.
Since there wasn’t much going on at her table, she gathered her things and got up with the intention of seeing what exactly was going on at the table. As she got closer, she began to figure out what was happening: jongi jeobgi. Paper folding.
Vivid memories of her mom folding a hanbok for her on her birthday flashed before her eyes. When Aurelia was old enough, her mom explained the significance of it to her.
“This is a hanbok,” her mom would say as she carefully folded each flap of the hanji paper. “It’s a traditional dress that Korean women will wear on special occasions. Birthdays, weddings, things like that. You've worn one before too, when we had your baby shower party.”
As the creation began to take form, her mom continued, "My mom, your grandma, would fold this for me when I was younger, just like I am doing for you." The mother lift up the paper creation to check her progress before continuing.
"The hanbok symbolizes joy and happiness in life. It also brings luck to whoever it is gifted to.” Aurelia would be in awe as she watched her mom expertly turn a piece of paper into a beautiful piece of art.
Eventually, Aurelia's mother finished folding and handed it to Aurelia. "Here you go. Happy birthday, my daughter." she said with a warm smile before getting up to go start on dinner. Every year, her mom would fold her one and every year she would put it in her journal as a reminder of her mother's words.
Back at the Great Hall, Aurelia was satisfied that she had figured out what was happening here, and she was more than happy to join.
Seating herself at an empty spot beside a girl with long, light blonde hair who seemed to have started her folding already, Aurelia reached for a spare piece of paper that no one was using and thought about what to fold.
Looking around, she saw a student with a completed badger. As a proud Hufflepuff, she immediately decided to attempt folding a badger. While feeling unsure of how it was going to go, Aurelia was ready for a challenge as she began making the first fold.
Honestly, it seemed quite easy for the first few steps but it quickly began gaining in difficulty once she started on step 11. What on earth was going on here? She looked around, hoping to pick up some techniques the other students were using but it seemed like they were also just as confused.
She looked over to the girl who was sitting beside her and working on something that looked much more difficult than a badger. "Isn't this tough?" she exclaimed, in hopes the girl would hear her.

A Craft of Precision and Paper
Interacting with @Meredith Ready
Just as Aurelia had finished speaking, a girl with short, light blonde hair sat down beside her. Honestly, it kind of scared her considering the girl wasn't wearing any shoes so the only indication she had of knowing there was a change in her environment was the feeling of the subtle shift of weight on the bench.
"Hello, My name is Meredith and I am in Slytherin. What is your name?" Aurelia opened her mouth to speak but before she could get a word out, the girl continued, "Did you know that Hippogriffs are carnivorous and were extremely dangerous until tamed, which should only be attempted by a trained witch or wizard." Oh! This girl is just... voluntarily giving out this kind of information? Without me needing to say anything?! Recognizing the rarity of the situation, she quickly put down the half-finished badger down and took out her journal, beginning to taking notes with the pencil she had tucked behind her ear. "When breeding, Hippogriffs built nests on the ground, and laid only a single, fragile egg. The egg usually hatched in twenty-four hours. Infant Hippogriffs were capable of flight within a week, but it took many months before they were strong enough to accompany their parents on long journeys. Sorry I talk way too much and way too fast. I should stop and make what I came over here to make witch is a snake because I am in Slytherin and proud of it. Sorry I should stop talking now."
There was a moment of silence in conversation as Aurelia noted down the remaining points the girl made about these mysterious "hippogriffs." Wait... oh, she stopped talking. After dotting her last i and crossing her last t, Aurelia looked directly at the girl, eyes wide with excitement. "Nonono, that was AMAZING! What else do you know?!" she exclaimed, rather loudly.
Typically, encounters with most people required her to poke and prod at the topic before the victim of her inquiries would give up more information about the topic. Sometimes they would be happy about her interest and continue, while others would be annoyed and just flat out walk away. She was quite glad this girl didn't require any kind of poking or prodding before giving any information. She just... did it naturally, and that was the second Aurelia knew they were going to get along just fine.
"Oh! My name is Aurelia. I don't mind you talking! I like your talking!" She gave the girl a warm smile and extended an invitation to a handshake in hopes the comfort would relieve some of her worries.

WC: 298/800 = cumulative total of 864 words.
Note: I decided not to include Meredith's words as part of the WC as I feel like that would be technically cheating, so it's 298 not counting her words. Oh, and will continue the RP even though the word count requirement has been achieved. Aurelia still needs to finish making her badger haha

Asteria glanced up from her work at the sound of a voice. Actually two voices! Her hair shifted from blonde to a peach color. She was in a sociable mood which was a surprisingly rare occurrence for the metamorphmagus so some company would actually be appreciated. "Yep, this dragon looks quite strange, don't you think?" She lifted the dragon up, examining it from multiple angles. It still really looked nothing like a dragon in the least bit. Maybe some super rare breed that Asteria had no knowledge of looked like that but it certainly didn't look like your average one.
The Ravenclaw girl turned her attention to the other girl who seemed to be blabbing a lot about magical creatures. How interesting, maybe I'll learn something. Asteria wasn't the hugest fan of magical creatures or creatures in general, especially spiders and other creepy-crawlies like that but she was often up for learning about something new, even if this girl seemed to be talking at a mile a minute which was kind of annoying. Still, Asteria paid attention as she quietly observed. It might be useful to her later in class or something and it appealed to her Ravenclaw nature.
Asteria had always thought nifflers were sort of aggressive and she had never known that griffins were used to guard treasures. Maybe that was because the first-year girl didn't tend to go in the magical creatures section in the library much because she preferred the other ones more. Perhaps she should take a look in that section every once in a while, it actually seemed sort of interesting, no matter how scary some of the creatures were if she were to encounter one face to face.
Asteria went back to focusing on the incomplete origami dragon in front of her. She studied the instructions for the next steps on the sheet, making sure she knew what she was supposed to do before actually doing it. That would hopefully prevent unnecessary creases in the paper and more discarded papers. She eyed the already numerous crumpled up half-dragons that were sitting beside her on her seat and continued her folding, slowly but surely.
Her eyes glimmered at the sight of books. Even if they were on a topic that didn't interest her much, she almost always enjoyed a good book. Ooh, books! Perhaps I should ask for one. Stifling up some courage, Asteria raised her voice again, "Ooh, books! Cool! What are they about?" That probably sounded strange but to be honest, she didn't really care.
WC: 413 + 414 = 827/800 (Completed but continuing to roleplay)
