Andrei was very excited about what might happen. In a few hours, that day, he would go for the first time to the Great Hall that his brothers talked about so much. It was going to be the opening banquet. The headmaster, Solomon Year, gave the best speech Andrei had ever heard, and with each word, Andrei became more excited about what might happen. But suddenly, he heard a first-year student ask, "What test will we have to take?" Andrei panicked. Would he have to take a test? What if he did badly and couldn't stay? Then Makaio Kane appeared, calling out students one by one. Andrei heard names like, "Slytherin, Ravenclaw, Gryffindor, Hufflepuff!" Andrei didn't understand anything.
After what seemed like an eternity, he called out: "Andrei Vilcu." Andrei, feeling both frightened and nervous, went to the chair where a strange, old hat sat. He put it on his head, and the hat said: "Hmmm... I don't see any cunning in you, nor do I feel you're brave enough. I know! Hupplepuff!" Andrei went to the table with yellow and black decorations. There, everyone applauded him, and amidst the confusion, he ate, laughed, and after several hours went with the others to the common room to sleep and prepare for a new day.
