trip to london

Getting to London with muggle transport was a first time experience for eleven-year-old Mary, and it certainly did not leave the best impression on her. First the family of seven, with all their towers of baggage, had to call a taxi to drive them to the train station. The car was incredibly tight, despite being made for eight passengers, but the luggage still took up most of the space, and everyone was scrunched up into their individual corners, which left all the family members in a bitter mood for the rest of the way to the train station. Upon arriving, and getting out of the suffocating car salon, they had to drag all their belongings across the platform, while father fumbled with the muggle tickets at the ticket counter. Her mother also insisted on taking her guitar, though it was completely irrational as they would be staying in a room at the Leaky Cauldron, where the walls barely sustained any noise, and she’d certainly get a notice if she started playing it as loudly as at home. But, she insisted, and now Mary, deemed the strongest of them all, had to help and drag the guitar on her shoulders. It was better not to bug the young girl at such a time like this, any sibling of hers would have definitely earned a slap on the wrist if they tried to tease her, let alone a muggle — she would’ve hardly resisted hexing them.
Once they got on the train the spirits lifted up a little, as the family in their closed off compartment played a game of Exploding Snap, a true classic on their trips.
After about eight hours in total, they finally arrived to King Cross station, and from here on they only had to make it to Leaky Cauldron, where they could finally relax, and take a nap, or in Mary’s case, annoy everyone with her chatter about how excited she is for the upcoming school year.
After about another hour of wandering around muggle London and figuring out which bus went to a stop nearby Leaky Cauldron, they finally made it to the infamous wizarding pub. The family all divided into their estimated rooms, Mary was staying with two of her younger sisters, while their parents and brothers were staying in a room next door to theirs. The girls settled in, and the family later went down to the pub to eat dinner.
After dinner the kids played around the corridors of the rooms of the inn, chasing a cat that was exceptionally friendly and belonged to some unfamiliar pub visitor. They missed old Brody, and playing with another pet was better than nothing. Brody had stayed at home until the family was supposed to come back, after sending Mary off to Hogwarts.
That day they didn’t go out to Diagon Alley as they were all too tired, and the adventure awaited tomorrow.
