Of Giant Squids
It was her first weekend at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and Alexa had had an incredibly long week. Hogwarts, with all of its magic, all of its magical people, all of it spells and charms and potions, and even flying broomsticks, had been a lot to take in! She found herself on this Saturday wandering the Grounds, and drawn to the Great Lake…
In her black robes, Alexa sat down where the grass ended, and the pebbly shore of the lake began. She pulled her knees up to her chest, and wrapped her arms around them, laying her head down, her red hair falling. For all that the school was incredible, more than she could imagine, she was also lonely. A shy girl, she did not make friends easily, and it was hard for her to find new people and make herself known to them. All the interactions she had had involved other people introducing themselves to her, because she was usually afraid to reach out to them. It made for a lonely time.
Watching the lake, Alexa lapsed into these quiet thoughts, and was suddenly incredibly startled by what seemed to be an eruption toward the center of the lake! Water flew up in bursts and spurts, and suddenly between the following drops she distinguished… What exactly? Were those… Tentacles?!
Alexa stood up quickly and stared in shock as a giant squid waived its tentacles in a friendly way from the center of the lake, before disappearing below the surface. Looking around, she wondered if it had been waving at anyone in particular, or waving at all. Slowly, even though the great creature was gone, she lifted her hand and waved back.

Cassie opened their eyes awaken from their slumber. While still laid on their bed, Cassie smiled to themselves. 'Weekend finally!' Cassie thought internally. Sure learning at Hogwarts is fun but at the same time it was exhausting. From Charms, DADA, Potions up to Flying lessons.
Cassie had just been a month in this school and the need to just sleep all day is what they needed from the never ending assignments. Cassie looks to the left and right side of their dorm mate beds, all of them empty. It seems like Cassie is the last one that woke up. Cassie then sit down on their bed. They get up from their bed and prepare for the day.
They grab a basic white t-shirt and black ripped jeans. When they laid it on the bed the article of clothes of their's, it is so Muggle-like. If their father knew that Cassie wear something like this, Cassie will not hears the end of it. After Cassie feel energize and fresh, Cassie grab their journal.
But when they about to grab their quill set, the said set were not on their desk. Cassie knitted their eyebrows, maybe they just misplaced it. With that thought Cassie out of their dorm room and went into the Common Room. Cassie asked if any of students that linger, have a spare quill to borrow.
One of their house mate stepped forward and lend Cassie a pen. Cassie looks at it since it is something unfamiliar with them. Their house mate told Cassie the basic principle what pen is. Cassie nodded at the brief explanation and said their gratitude for lending the pen then Cassie out the door.

Upon arriving at the Great Lake Cassie first thought was to find some secluded place for them to write their journal but their eyes wide as a saucer when they see a giant tentacle emerged from the water and here they thought they already seen all what this school offer. The said tentacles looked like waving to someone that sit on the grass where its ended.
Cassie look at the redhead girl and it seems familiar to them. The girl abruptly stood up and waved back when the giant creature dived back again into the water. Cassie walks toward the girl. "Are my eyes deceiving me or that tentacles just waved?"Cassie inquires the redhead and stand beside her.
"Alexa, right? Nice finally meet you again"Cassie hoped they did not say the wrong name to the girl.

After waving, Alexa let her arm drop and looked about, feeling slightly foolish, and wondering if anyone had seen. She caught sight of a girl who looked familiar approaching her, and remembered her from the Hogwarts Express. Cassandra, Alexa thought, and then remembered that the other girl went by Cassie. Alexa had noticed on their first night when she was waiting to be called at the Sorting that Cassie had been sorted into Slytherin, just like the other girl had hoped. Alexa hoped she was happy there, and was glad to see her again.
Cassie came up, and mentioned the giant squid waving. "I think it was," Alexa said quietly, with a smile. "It's good to see you again, as well!" She said to the other girl in response. "How has school been for you? And how has Slytherin been working out for you? Have you made any new friends?" Then she suddenly thought of their other companion from the train. "Oh, and have you seen Meredith? Do you know how she is doing?" Alexa then cut herself off, realizing she was bombarding Cassie with questions. She blushed with embarrassment. "Sorry about all the questions… Just wondering…" She said quietly.

"Huh? So it really is waving to us or maybe to you since you are the first one that get here"Cassie rasped out. Magic never cease to amaze them. Cassie can not hold their smile when the ever vibrant Alexa respond to their question. "Are you always like this? I mean being energize. Do not get me wrong, it is kind of endearing"Cassie inquires the other girl.
"School was school. Got almost O's on Charms Class, some O's and E's for Potions and for the first lesson of Flying I got A"Cassie informs Alexa. At the mention of the said score they got for Flying class, Cassie's face become somber but just for a fleeting moment.
"Slytherin is awesome! Meet a lot of them, some people I met from different houses and years too. How about you?"Now it is Cassie's turn to ask Alexa, trying to change the topic. "Meredith.. I think she is around somewhere in the castle. You know how big the castle is. Unfortunately I have not share a class with her yet but I hope she is doing fine. How is Clay and Clifton?"Cassie explains to Alexa.
Alexa suddenly become flushed, she realize that she questions Cassie rapidly. "No, no. It is okay"Cassie assures the Hufflepuff girl. "Do not ever say sorry for being yourself. If people tell you that you need to change who you are, then you can shoved that person into this lake"Cassie let out a chuckles.
"Or I will gladly do it for you"Cassie offers. There is a glint of mischievousness in their eyes. Then Cassie sit down on the ground that not damp. They laid down their journal on their laps and take out the pen that their house mate lent it to them from the pocked of their jeans.
"You know, I just knew that this is the same as quill. Only this thing did not need an ink to dipped for me to write"Cassie holds the blue pen on their left hand (Cassie a lefty).
Cassie seems fascinated with the new knowledge they just know. There a lot of Muggle things that they do not know.
"Um.. I know this is a weird request, but if you do not mind can you tell me some stuff about Muggles? They seems interesting"Cassie look at Alexa with curiosity. Damn what father think, Cassie smirk at that thought.

“Are you always like this?” Cassie asked, and went on to talk about Alexa’s energy. Alexa turned more pink, if that was possible. “I-I guess so… It’s kind of hard for me to talk to people, to be honest. But I always am excited seeing friends.”
“I got an A in flying as well, after O’s and E’s on everything else. It was a little disappointing…” She trailed off. Alexa has always been one to try to get perfect grades, so the A for Acceptable was disheartening. She would just have to do better next time; the flying instructor was somewhat tough!
Alexa smiled when Cassie said she was doing well in her House, before asking how Alexa was doing. “Oh, I think really well. I’ve met some new people… Is just a question of meeting them again and becoming friends, you know?” She nodded about Meredith, and said “Clifton is doing well! He’s in my House. Clay is in Gryffindor, and I haven’t seen much of her lately.” She looked down at the end of the sentence, realizing she was a little hard at not having seen Clay lately. She really liked the Gryffindor girl.
Alexa blushed again but smiled happily when Cassie said never to be sorry for being herself. She laughed when the other girl mentioned shoving people into the lake. And then offered to do it for her. “Thank you Cassie,” Alexa said with a smile. “That’s really kind of you to say those things.”
Cassie eventually held out a pen, which Alexa was very familiar with, being a Muggle-born. Quills and ink were more difficult for her to use. “Yes, the ink is actually inside of it. That’s why you don’t need to dip it.”
“And what would you like to know about Muggles?” Alexa asked carefully.

Usually Cassie did not associate with any Hufflepuffs but it seem Alexa with her talkative trait starts growing on Cassie. "That you are, Lex. That you are"Cassie agreed tow what Alexa said about excited seeing friends.
"Can I call you that?"Cassie thinks albeit 'Alexa' it was short but it is still her first name and when Cassie consider that person as their friend, Cassie tends to shorten the person name. "I know what you mean and yeah after all the O's and E's, the A just pegged me down a thing of two out of my cockiness"The Slytherin girl scratches the back of their neck.
Then Alexa told Cassie about her and her house also where Clay and Clifton sorted. Cassie vaguely remembered that Alexa, Clay and Clifton sorted by the Sorting Hat to their respective Houses but at the time Cassie already too engaged at the conversations that they had with their fellow Slytherins at the Slytherin table.
"Yup! I agree with you. Since this castle is huge, you never know when you going to meet them again"Cassie nodded their head when Alexa talked about meeting the people that she already met and becoming friends.
"No hay problema, I mean not problem at all. But seriously if or when you need to shoved someone into this lake, I will gladly do it for you"Cassie laughs. There is a glimmer of joy in Cassie's eyes that have been disappeared for a long time from their eyes. When Alexa mention the ink inside the pen, Cassie get more and more exciting at the new knowledge.
"Is that so? That is so fascinating"Cassie twirls the blue pen in their hand. "Well, everything! Like what sport did you do? What way of communication do you use? How you travel from one place to another place? The entertainment and sweets. Everything!"The more they elaborate, the more they got excited and did not realize that they half shout to Alexa.
"Sorry, I just got a tad bit carried away"Cassie said sheepishly to Alexa then chuckles.

Alexa smiled when Cassie called her “Lex.” “Of course you can call me that,” she said happily. Only friends gave nicknames (nice ones, at least), and she considered Cassie a friend already, so this was great.
Alexa nodded a little somberly in agreement to Cassie’s statement about grades. But then she laughed again when Cassie offered to push someone in the lake for her. “No, no, I don’t think I need anybody pushed in right now,” she smiled a little mischievously. “But I will certainly let you know if I do!” She laughed.
Alexa thought about Cassie’s questions for a moment. “Well, I didn’t really play a sport, but my family enjoyed watching soccer. Do you know anything about soccer? And for communication we definitely don’t use owls!” She laughed again. “We have this thing called the telephone, where you can call your friends and talk to them on the phone. I’m sure they have something like that here, where you can talk to someone far away, but directly. I just don’t know what it is yet.”
“Let’s see… For entertainment… Well, I didn’t go a lot, but there are movie theaters in town where you can watch movies, there are also places to go dancing, parks to play in, stuff like that.”
“Oh, the sweets! They are a little bit different from here. For one thing, none of them move!” Alexa chuckled, remembering Clifton’s chocolate frog that had jumped on Cassie in the train. “We have lots of different kinds of chocolates, and bars and candies, but I think I’m starting to like magical candies better! They are very fun! What’s your favorite candy?”
