Flowers Abound
Dashing down the stairs, Eira savored the sharpness of the air. With the subdued quiet of the interior far beind her, she laughed, feeling free.
It would be incorrect to say that she didn't like Hogwarts— it was a gorgeous place, with the towering elegance of the castle and the vastness of the rolling knolls it was nestled in a constant presence for every resident of the academy. And it was certainly a much better environment to study in than her hometown. Who didn't want to go to school in a place that literally had floating candles?
But deep down, Eira always felt happier in the open air.
The sun had just begun to crest over the hillside, a soft amber staining the dark, oily blue of the early morning sky. Everything had a quietness she suddenly didn't want to shatter. Instead, she settled for running to the top of a nearby brae, the only sound the thumping of her feet and the pounding of her heart.
However, before she could reach the peak— if you could even call the top of a hill a peak— she tripped over a rogue stone that was mostly submerged in the brae's mossy covering.
She fell, glad to find that the moss was springy enough to prevent most of the pain on impact. She huffed out an embarrassed laugh, relieved that no one had been around to see that— until she heard footsteps.
