“Hey really nice to meet you guys!” Lindsey grinned.
She had been afraid of not having a friend at Hogwarts, since the Springhalls rarely took their children to meet friends. She spent the whole trip on the train sitting with a bunch of Gryffindor 3rd years pranking each other——her brother believed she’ll be sorted into the same house with them.
Lindsey had a noisy trip, and kept thinking if everyone in Hogwarts would be like this. And, she now realized, that’s a shortcoming of the Gryffindors. She’s bubbly, that’s true, but it didn’t achieve the Gryffindor type of noisy. The sorting hat had been hesitated for sorting her into Gryffindor. But, it said Hufflepuff would be her right place.
In Lindsey’s opinion, Hufflepuff is where the most difficult to determine a student’s personality. You could be courageous, or smart, or ambitious, cause all of them don’t contradicted with being loyal and hard-working.

“Well we live in Kensington, surrounded by muggle houses. I don’t know why my grandparents had chosen this place, but maybe they just want to annoy some pure-blood families that believed in blood-purity theory in the past times.” Lindsey shrugged her shoulders.
“But it’s beautiful and peaceful there, not large——like Alexa’s farm, but quite cozy” She smiled, as thinking her childhood.
“The farm must be cool! And having your own horse!” Lindsey said. She had been wanting to have a little pony before——but it’s weird to have a horse in the city, isn’t it?
Lindsey laughed for Alina’s opinion on names.
“I won’t mind you calling me Olivia, Alina! Only, I’ve already thinking of the Professor’s face when learning the student Olivia Springhall’s given name is actually Lindsey! I’ll immediately tell her that you give the wrong name to her!” She laughed again.
——Such a great feeling of having friends, Lindsey thought.

"Oh getting confused by the wrong name is certainly not the way to start things off,"
she agreed and looked across The Great Hall from the Hufflepuff table all the way over to the Slytherin table where she could see her identical twin sister talking to her new house mates. Bella was talking with some of them and laughing. This was something that initially bothered Alina quite a lot, having been MISsorted and all, but she was growing pretty comfortable with it these days. Bella could have her friends in Slytherin and she just wanted her to be happy.

Plus, Hufflepuff couldn't be all that bad because it had Clifton Troublefield in it. She looked over at him and took his hand in hers and squeezed it before smiling. It had kind of become their little way of telling the other they were there for them, or just to reach out and get that extra little bit of comfort or security when they needed it and in that moment she needed it.

"I've heard horses are a lot of work but they've got to be worth it,"
Alina agreed that it would be neat to own one. "They're very beautiful creatures."

- The Sorting Hat

What’s a Hufflepuff? Aurelia wondered as she walked towards the table, seating herself among fellow students who were chatting with eachother. She didn’t want to make the wrong first impression or seem rude, so she stayed quiet, pouring herself some tea into a goblet. She definitely ate her fill as she waited for her name to be called, so the food was no longer tempting anymore.

Even though everyone seemed to also be new to this whole thing, she couldn’t help but still feel out of place. After all, her lineage wasn’t as exciting as theirs probably was, she surmised. She was just a Muggle, nothing special. What was someone like her even doing here, anyways? Shaking the negative thoughts away, Aurelia instinctively took out her journal and started noting down the foods that she had eaten earlier and began rating each dish and making some notes for each:

Beef Casserole ★★★★☆
- surprisingly filling
- contained a good amount of agaricus bisporus
(agaricus bisporus is the white button mushroom. Aurelia learned about this back when she was looking up mushrooms during a weekend family camping trip.)

Lamb Chops ★★★★★
- delicious, made to the perfect medium-rare level of done-ness

Roast Chicken ★★★★☆
- was a bit dry, but had a nice crispy skin

Fried Sausages ★★★★★
- reminds me of 엄마’s soondae
- note to self: ask 엄마 about fried soondae
(엄마 eomma, meaning mom in Korean)

Mashed Potatoes ★★★★☆
- amazing, so buttery and fluffy
- 아빠 would have liked this
(아빠 appa, meaning dad in Korean)

Without realizing, a tear had began to form and eventually dropped onto the page she was writing on. Aurelia was homesick. Something about writing how her dad would have loved to try the mashed potatoes, or asking her mom about fried soondae brought up memories of her home back in Brighton. She wiped the tear away, refusing to let fellow classmates potentially see and laugh at her for missing home.

Alexa smiled at Lindsey as the girl introduced herself. She seemed bright and happy, and very friendly. She was struggling to think of a way to introduce herself (just saying her name seemed weird, since she was so shy), and as she was thinking about it, Clifton beat her to the punch, introducing her to Lindsey. He said that she was probably the nicest person at Hogwarts! Alexa blushed crimson with embarrassment, but was also a little pleased. She could see Clifton being a good friend, and hoped that it stayed that way.

Lindsey started talking about where she was from, and Alexa realized she was another magical born child, as opposed to a Muggle-born. What must that have been like, she wondered? Wouldn’t you have to hide everything you did, being a wizard or witch living among non-magical people? That probably had to be difficult.

Alexa smiled brightly at Lindsey when the girl mentioned her farm and her horse. “She’s just an old plow horse, but I love her very much,” Alexa said quietly.

Then a new girl arrived at the table, immediately introducing herself and sitting next to Clifton. She seemed very confident, and knew Clifton from somewhere. She started talking about Olivia and Oliver, and Alexa wondered if the girl felt just as overwhelmed as she did by all of the new people. Lindsey mentioned being called Olivia by the new girl, Alina, and how it would confuse professors. Alexa chuckled.

She noticed Alina take Clifton’s hand and give it a squeeze. Her brow furrowed slightly, but then smoothed out. They must know each other pretty well from somewhere. She looked into the girl’s eyes when Alina spoke of hard work and horses. “They are definitely worth it,” Alexa said, nodding and smiling slightly. “Blossom isn’t as beautiful as she used to be, since she’s getting older, but she still pretty magnificent!”

Her attention stayed on Alina. “I’m sorry, I didn’t introduce myself. I’m Alexa,” the redheaded girl said, feeling awkward. She had jumped right into the conversation without even telling Alina who she was! But still, she was talking to new people, and that was a great improvement for her.

“Alina, where are you from?” Alexa asked politely.

"Hi, Alexa," she smiled to the girl, thinking that not only must it be great to have something like a horse but that Alexa's horse Blossom seemed lucky to have her. "I'm originally from France," she knew she had the slightest bit of accent still lingering on. Her father had one as did her grandmother and many of the staff. "Moved though when I was younger to Surrey so that's where I've been since. Surrey. 2 and a half hours from Rye.

"I don't even remember everything of my home back in France but it's probably better that way. And Surrey's nice...we're in the Windlesham Village area though. Houses are spaced out so much that I don't even know a single neighbor." It was fascinating how everyone came from such varied backgrounds.

She liked this, being at this Hufflepuff Table. Alexa seemed nice, Lindsey seemed nice, and she already knew Clive was absolutely amazing in every way. "I've never been to a farm. I've only seen them in passing when traveling." But she liked to be outdoors and in nature, so that part didn't seem bad to her at all. But man, she never even got to have a goldfish to help take care of growing up, let alone BIG animals.

The Prefect had cheered for all the new first years being sorted but was especially loud when a fellow Hufflepuff was sorted. Her eyes lit up in excitement and a smile beamed across her face in happiness. "Welcome all of you to the wonderful house of Hufflepuff! I'm Annie Morgan one of your fellow Prefects and a Chaser on the Quddich team, so if you are ever interested in Quddich come talk to me!"

The brunette didn't want to overwhelm the young witches and wizards so she began to start eating once everyone was called. The food was always mouth watering and Annie enjoyed getting to know some of the younger students. The girl's ears perked up at the mention of horses. She turned her head in the direction of another girl sitting a few seats away from her and jumped into the conversation. "Oh horses are beautiful creatures, but the magical world has so many unique creatures itself. My personal favorite being the hippogriff."

Annie wondered if the girl was a muggle and hadn't known about magical creatures, but either way she loved magical creatures and would talk your ear off about them if she had the chance. She returned her focus to the food in front of her only to notice a girl next to her with an unreadable, but definitely not happy look on her face. Her heart ached for the girl and she tentatively put a soft hand on her shoulder to let her know of her presence. The girl gave her a small smile. "Homesickness I'm guessing? A lot of people get that when they come here for the first time, but we are here for you, think of Hufflepuff as your second family. You'll spend so much time here that Hogwarts will become a second home to you and you won't want to leave." She gave a small laugh but then continued in a quiet manor. "But hey, if you need anything I'm here and just know that we all are here for you okay?"

The Prefect took her hand off the girl's shoulder, not wanting to overstep boundaries. She knew the girl was going to be okay, it just took some time getting used to. Annie thought back to her first year and sighed at all the memories she made. "By the way, what's your name?" the brunette asked the girl, with a slight tilt of her head in a question.

Feeling a comforting hand on her shoulder, Aurelia snapped out of her thoughts and glanced up to see a fair, Irish girl with a small smile on her face.

"Homesickness I'm guessing?" the girl said.

Aurelia gave her a smile in relief. This girl had no idea how spot-on she was.

"A lot of people get that when they come here for the first time, but we are here for you, think of Hufflepuff as your second family. You'll spend so much time here that Hogwarts will become a second home to you and you won't want to leave." The girl gave a small laugh but then continued in a quiet manner. "But hey, if you need anything I'm here and just know that we all are here for you okay?"

Taking in the kind girl's words, Aurelia felt a reassurance that everything was going to be okay. She felt warmth, it reminded her of home, and she was very appreciative of what this fellow Hufflepuff was saying to her. She gave a little chuckle as well.

"By the way, what's your name?"

Perking up at the question, Aurelia took a breath before responding. "Oh, my name's Aurelia. Thank you for the reassurance." She continued, "Yeah, I'm feeling a bit homesick. It's just... a lot to take in." She gestured at the... well, everything.

It was at this point she noticed the girl's light blue eyes, admiring how the light appeared to make them almost look multi-coloured. Before she could catch her self, "Wow, your eyes are beautiful." tumbled out of her mouth. Wait, this is too early. Ask for her name first! For the love of all that is holy, names first, compliments later!

"UM I mean it's nice to meet you! What's your name?" She gave a smile to try and throw the girl off her moment of awkwardness.

Clifton felt Alina take his hand and he turned, mouth still partially full of food, to catch her briefly glance over at the Slytherin table. At her sister. There was even an empty spot next to her, like it was meant to belong to another Rosier.

He finished chewing and returned the gentle squeeze once they conversation had steered away from them. "You're in the right place," he muttered, watching the other girl from across the hall. "I'll bet her friends don't have horses. And I bet they wouldn't let you call them Olivia either." Then, with a soft laugh, added. "The friends, I mean. Not the horses."

A joke was all he knew how to offer in a room full of people, but he kept hold of her hand to let her knew he was there. And that she fit quite nicely in the empty spot next to him, even if it wasn't at the Slytherin table.

The group had been so busy talking, Clifton had hardly noticed Aurelia join them. He felt a little guilty about it, once the older girl went out of her way to welcome her.

"You know," he said to the group, including Aurelia. "We were actually talking about exploring the castle sometime. You think any kids from the other houses would want to join?"

“My father is from France too, that means the Springhalls are originally from there.” Lindsey said to Alina, “My uncle and aunt are currently living there too. I have two cousins who study at Beauxbatons. Both Springhalls. I’m brought up in Kensington here along with my elder brother because my mom’s father have been living in London throughout his life. As for my grandmother, I mean my mom’s mother, she’s from China. So it’s a bit messy for my family.” Lindsey laughed.
Enjy and Ferre, the cousins she mentioned that studied at Beauxbatons, were great brothers for her. Much better than Ed. She thought. They were just like the true Enjolras and Combeferre in Les Miserables. Enjy, with the same golden hair and blue eyes, was passionate about everything. While Ferre, who had brown hair and grayish blue eyes (the Springhall ones, like Lindsey’s), was basically a great student from any aspect.
She heard Alexa talking about her horse. It’s good to have a pet, isn’t it? The animals were friends with us, no matter non-magical people (she still hated saying “muggle”) or wizards. Alexa was a really nice girl like Clifton had said. Actually, everyone here were confident and friendly. It made Lindsey felt at home.
She saw a girl she didn’t know talking with their prefect Annie Morgan. The girl looked like she’s from Asia, just like her grandma. “Um, hi.” Lindsey said to the girl. “May I know where are you from? You looked like from China, Korea, or Japan. My grandmother’s a Chinese.” She waited for the girl’s reply.
Meanwhile, Clifton talked about going on adventures. To be frank, Lindsey loved adventures. Maybe she had read to many novels about them? She didn’t know.
“That must be interesting!” She said to Clifton. “And I do think students from other houses would join. Who doesn’t like adventures, especially when it’s in Hogwarts?” She winked.

She liked that Lindsey liked to talk so much about her family. It made her assume that perhaps she had a nice homelife outside of Hogwarts and that on holidays and special times that big family would get together. They had lots to share, having so much diversity between them.

Alina on the other hand had her sister Bella, but they weren't as close as they once were at the current moment. She also had her grandmother and father that she only saw sporadically.

But here at Hogwarts she was finding a family of sorts, just as their head of House, Professor Caradoc Browne had said she would at the beginning of the year. There was Phoenix and Meredith and, of course, Clifton. And maybe now there were these girls too.

"Who doesn’t like adventures, especially when it’s in Hogwarts?” Lindsey hadwinked. Alina looked over to Clifton and gave a playful shrug. "I don't know..." she said jokingly, "I'm not so sure about this adventure thing...." but in reality she was always up for one. "I'm not sure I'm one for adventures, right, Mr. Troublefield?" and she laughed because her and Clifton had gone on quite a few already! "I'm kidding. Kidding. I'm in."

Let your confidence shine, pretty girl. <3
