I didn’t even bother hiding my expression when she said it.

β€œLibrary,” she repeated, like it was some kind of punishment I’d somehow deserved.

I exhaled through my nose unimpressed. β€œIt's boring, I've been there all week” I explained flatly to Ophelia.

And somehow, that was how I ended up walking there anyway, on a bright sunny day. That was after she basically dragged my arm there.

I followed not because I wanted to. Not because I had suddenly developed an interest in β€œrecommended reading” or whatever excuse she’d decided sounded intelligent enough to use on me. Just because arguing with her was like trying to hex a wall (technically possible, emotionally exhausting, and completely pointless).
I am still unsure how I manage to be in the same room as her; she is my polar opposite, so bubbly and energetic.
She made me tired just by looking at her yet she was almost "fun" to be around with.

The corridor ahead was already getting quieter, the usual noise of the castle diminishing the closer we got to the library door. It was probably filled with Ravenclaws wanted to show off during the weekend that they could still be academically successful- which is not the case.

β€œRemind me why I'm here again” I muttered. β€œI’m going leave you in the restricted section and pretending I don’t know you.” I finalised thinking of what I just signed up to.

Homework, homework, homework, and, did I mention homework? It was near the end of the year, but somehow Ophelia found a lot of things that she needed to study. Most of them weren't even homework she'd gotten from the professors, just stuff she wanted to learn about or know more about... last-minute.

The thing about Ophelia that almost everybody would've known by now was that she disliked wandering around alone. Keyword: alone. She would've even agreed to go somewhere with her enemy, if she had one, instead of going there alone. In this case, she had forced Tes Cadell, a Slytherin girl Ophelia hadn't liked at first, but now couldn't stop herself from annoying, to go with her to the library to 'study'. That was the one thing they probably wouldn't know, since Ophelia had gotten surprisingly comfortable around Tes, and would likely ramble nonsense while the poor girl was forced to listen to her.

"Please please please pleaseeee," she remembered begging the young snake, who had finally given up, to come with her. After she did agree, Ophelia pulled her by her hand. So what that Tes was in the library the whole week? That was not Ophelia's problem. Tes was now forced to follow her anyway, because for unknown reasons Ophelia had decided to trust her... probably a mistake, probably not.

She pouted as Tes threatened to leave her alone in the restricted section. Ophelia didn't have any problem with the 'restricted section' part; she did have one, as mentioned already, with the 'alone' part. She could imagine acting all childish and clingy to Tes if she did that, the Tes herself would rethink her deeds. Would screaming or throwing a tantrum work on an eleven-year-old if it were being done by an eleven-year-old? The answer to that question would only be found out if Tes did pretend she didn't know Ophelia, which, Ophelia could only hope, would never happen.

As they entered the library, Ophelia pulled Tes with her to an empty table near the bookshelves, but in the middle row, ignoring Tes' constant complaints. "I was thinking," she stopped herself, because she only wanted to talk to the latter and wasn't thinking of anything at all. What did she even want to do in here? Homework? That was the excuse, and she did have to do it eventually, but she neither needed Tes' help nor was in the mood for doing a homework that could be done in less than ten minutes (more or less), "What shall we do?" Yes. Best option. Just ask her, who didn't even want to be here in the first place, what she wanted to do in the library with you.

The Library Theory
The library seemed somewhat welcoming today. It had the right amount of people; not too many to feel crowded, not too less to feel deserted. Leo was walking towards his usual table after picking up only a few books. One was about Potions, another Astronomy, and a random story book. Three was enough, he thought. He did not trust his legs.

As he made his way, he noticed two girls already at his table. One Slytherin, another Gryffindor. His eyebrows immediately shot up. This was interesting. As he got closer, he noticed the Slytherin was quite pissed off, probably because the Gryffindor dragged her here. It was kind of obvious by the death grip she had on her elbow and the smile on her face. Very interesting.

As he neared the table, he decided to introduce himself. Oh wait. Why should he? Ah right, it's his usual table! 'Sorry to interrupt-' And he tripped.

Why is his clumsiness always ready to introduce him before he could? What did Leo even trip on? As he fell, he put out his left hand, letting go of the books in his arms, and planted it on the floor, steadying himself. He could notice the books in the air at the corner of his eye.

Okie. Now he could-
The books hit his head, making him promptly faceplant on the floor. How was that even possible. Maybe his clumsiness could defy the laws of physics, now that he was in Hogwarts. He looked up, removing a book on the top of his head. 'That's the table I usually sit at...'' He muttered, looking at the two girls.

Yeah, He should get up, gather his books, and sit at the table like a civilized human being.

I was still staring at Ophelia like she had personally insulted the concept of studying when she spoke up about the reason I was, yet again, spending my free time with studious Ravenclaw want to be.
Near the end of her little dramatic performance to suffering, I leaned back slightly in my chair, watching her with increasing suspicion as I crossed my arm, waiting for her to do what she planned- working.

Because Ophelia never just did things. There was always a problem attached.
And then she proved me right today again, "I was thinking"
"No," I said immediately, barely waiting for her to formulate her thought.
She stopped as a pause stretched out, "This," I say moving my hand in the air, around the table, "is concerning" I said, talking about her sudden change in topics. Maybe she was bipolar.

"What shall we do?" Ophelia suddenly busted out.
I stared at her. She couldn't be serious
"You were meant to be studying," I said, voice deadpan as I pinch my nose in annoyance, "That was the entire point of this trip. You physically dragged me here for academic purposes, your academic success."
Maybe she really was bipolar..

I gestured vaguely at the surrounding tables, "This is a library, Ophelia, do you want to start a little garden next to the Magic History section?" I say my arms randomly pointing at the surroundings, sounding like I was resonating with her after she went through a mental shock.

Then, my arms that were once open wide suddenly closed after a loud crash. I looked over the source of noise to see a boy hit the floor in a very committed relationship with gravity.
Books flew everywhere.
Right, anyways. Literally what I said before, want to be studious people.
When I thought this day couldn't get worse, "That’s… the table I usually sit at…" the stranger replied
I paused to look at him, then the table, then Ophelia,"Unfortunately for you," I said calmly, leaning back in my chair, "it is currently occupied. Besides, it doesn't say your name on it"
These people really thought the library was owned by their fathrs. It's a public school library? What do you expect?

Before the silence stretched out too long I quickly spoke, "And before you attempt negotiation," I added, watching him carefully in a tone that almost sounded like I was laying rules, "no. That is not happening."

Holy Guacamole, Slytherin was terrifying.

Okay, maybe not terrifying, but still. Did she really ask for Leo's name on the desk? There are still people who use that statement?

Leo slowly got up, gathering his books and dusted his robes off so now he looked like a decent human being. He set his books on the table. The book that hit him on the head was, of course, the Potions one.
''Okay, I didn't write my name there, but what I meant was-'' She didn't even wait from him to finish and just interrupted him. That was a bit mean.

Point was, Leo had befriended a lot of people who were mean, so he wasn't that fazed by it.
She then said, ''And before you attempt negotiation, no, that is not happening.''

Oh boy. Now he had an idea.

This was about to be interesting. Before Leo spoke, he took a glance at the Gryffindor girl. Her expression was quite in contrast to the Slytherin. Either she helped Leo, or she teams up with the Slytherin. If things took the wrong turn, he could just apologize and slip away.

''Oh, is that so? I was about to negotiate my departure, but you said no to that, so I guess I'm sitting here.'' He plopped down in the seat opposite the two girls. ''And my earlier comment about how I was sitting here, I just notifying you, so you wouldn't wonder why I approached you guys, and..'' looking at the Slytherin girl, ''It's not that unfortunate. I'll just do my business quietly while you do yours. Although I doubt your business isn't that quiet...''

He smiled. ''Sorry, where're my manners? I'm Leo. Leo Madahand. First year, Hufflepuff.'' He stretched out his hand for a handshake.

Although, he did find himself mentally praying for the complete absense of mad hand jokes (He often got them a lot when he introduced himself).

Jay had already been in the library when the two girls had walked in, one Slytherin and Gryffindor. She recognized the Slytherin as the famous Tes Cadell, Jay had seen her around the common room and the grounds a few times. People often had a new story about Tes every day, sometimes good and sometimes bad, but Jay had a neutral opinion on Tes. After all how could she hate or like someone she had never met?

The other girl with her was a bit familiar, maybe she and Jay had a class or two together. Jay tried to go back to her book on poisonous fungi and mushrooms, she had a stack of eight books between her and the main walkway through the library, mainly non magical plants but there were a few books on magical ones.

Key word. Jay tried to go back to her book. Tried. A boy had come along and tripped, causing some sort of chain reaction where he ended up with books on his head, then Tes asked him to leave, not exactly in the most kind way but he ended up making a fuss and sitting down opposite them. She wondered if the books had given him some sort of brain damage.

I swear if I have to deal with another concussed idiot I'm going to hex someone

Jay slammed her book closed and stood up, stuffing the book in her bag before walking over to the table, annoyed. β€œIt’s not my fault you have the spatial awareness of a pencil so I am here to tell you myself” Jay was mostly talking to the boy, whom she had never met before but already decided an opinion on him. β€œShut it. Some of us have studying to do” Jay had been trying to read in the library all week but there had been interruption after interruption and Jay was over it.

Last week, there had been a huge problem with some bookshelves, then the week before there was a whole pranking thing that Jay had dragged into and then yesterday there was some irresponsible first years being loud. Jay had not had a moment to stop and just read.

Olivia was sat at a table near the window as she finished up some Charms work for her next Charms class. This was a rare spectacle as the libary was her least visited and most avoided area in all of hogwarts. This was the first time she had actually decided to come to the library to get some work done as she always preferred to do it in the common room. Her friends were right about how fast one could get work done when it seemed like everyone else around you was also occupied on a boring task or simply reading.

Olivia's concentration was quite quickly disturbed as she heard a student fumble making her galnce over at the fellow Hufflepuff boy. He had somehow managed to trip and cause a book to fall on his head resulting in him to land face first onto the floor. She couldn't help but snigger, that was hilarious, what crappy luck. Unfortunately for him he was also met by a hostile Slytherin and not just one but two as another apporached him and told him off.

Olivia sighed getting up, "Seriously its not his fault he fell," she defended as she looked the Slytherin up and down. She wasn't one to get involved in petty arguments such as these, but today was different. Maybe spending time in the library had changed her a little or maybe because it was a Hufflepuff. "I don't think his stumble affected anyone but you, maybe you should not let other peoples actions concern you," she added.

She then looked between the other three students, "Really? your arguing over a table?" She questioned unimpressed, she didn't understand it, not one bit, all the tables were practically the same. "It's not like this specific table or these basic chairs are made out of gold," she stated rolling her eyes, "You should see my desk back at home, its to die for," she bragged.

The library was one of the nicest places to sleep, second to the History class, of course. Nothing could beat that one. Skylar came here for books from time to time, and some were for a nap. Today was no different. Her head was sinking into the book for about an hour now. She would be drifting in her dream a bit longer if not startled by someone tripping over their shoes or something, making a sound similar to a professor dropping homework on students’ heads. β€œW… What?” She straightened up her back and continued reading instinctively. Then, she figured it was just nothing. She would go back to sleep again, but the arguing of some familiar faces kept her wide awake as she glanced from the near table.

She arched her brow a lot. It almost appeared like she downgraded people with one look of her eyes, but no… she was just curious. What are they arguing about anyway? Something interesting? There were Slytherin and Hufflepuff, not that she had never seen it before, yet this was the library, not the Quidditch match.

It seemed like the Hufflepuff boy wanted to sit at the same table as the Slytherin girls. One Hufflepuff girl already backed him up, and perhaps two Slytherins were already against him. Would she like to join in and back up the two girls? Nahh… It won’t be a fair fight then. She would rather stay quiet, observing them than making things worse.

Leo really needed to keep his mouth and clumsiness in check. Or rather, just eliminate both.

How did he even end up here?

The second he sat down and introduced himself, another Slytherin came over, looking meaner and scarier then the one on the table and said, 'It’s not my fault you have the spatial awareness of a pencil so I am here to tell you myself. Shut it. Some of us have studying to do.''

Okay. Spatial awareness of a pencil? Leo wasn't that bad now, was he? Okay, maybe he was, but she didn't have to say it like that now, surely. And Was his fall that loud? Leo tried to speak. Really, he wanted to not cause any misunderstandings. ''Okay, ma'am, I really did not mean to-''

And then he got interrupted again, for the second time in a row. This time, it was a Hufflepuff girl. ''Seriously, it's not his fault he fell. I don't think his stumble affected anyone but you, maybe you should not let other people's actions concern you.'' She then looked at the girls at the table and then at Leo himself and went, '' Really? You're arguing over a table? It's not like this specific table or these basic chairs are made out of gold. You should see the desk back at my home, it's to die for.''

Okay. Thank her, random Hufflepuff, for defending him, Leo thought, but he really didn't like people discussing his clumsiness like this, especially in that arguing tone. Also, no one was arguing over the table, He was sitting at the table he usually sits, notifying the previous occupants that he wouldn't bother them (Okay, maybe he might've been a bit annoying, but he was gonna shut up later). And why was she bringing up her table back at home?

Moreover, he realized this little group that gathered here was attracting attention. A girl at a nearby table, also Slytherin (was he cursed with getting chided my Slytherins today or something?) was watching with an amused expression, and he was sure she had been sleeping earlier.

Leo, feeling extremely alone (half because he wasn't being allowed to speak at all, and half because everyone there except him was a girl), tiny, regretting his decision of sitting at that table instead of turning back after he fell, decided to at least try justifying his case and find a way to escape. ''Umm... It's not that big of a deal, and we weren't arguing over a table, but thanks for supporting me?'' He said to the Hufflepuff girl, and then turned to the Slytherin girl who compared him to a pencil. ''And I'm sorry if my clumsiness or my existence is a distraction. I'll leave if you guys want that.'' He the slowly pointed at the Slytherin who was watching the scene unfold like an entertainment program on television. ''And I think we need to calm down. We're attracting attention...''

Ophelia's face lit up. A garden in the library? That would make the vibe so much cozier. Before Ophelia could reply, a boy approached their table and... fell. Well, clumsy him. Ophelia could agree with Tes that there wasn't a name written on the table, but he felt bad for the boy. Before she could drag Tes with her to another table, she answered him sharply. Very Tes of her, honestly.

The commotion seemed to have attracted lots of unwanted attention, and Ophelia just wanted the floor to open up and swallow her right there and then. This didn't seem to bother Tes or the boy, Leo, though. Ophelia's eyes darted left and right, trying to find somewhere to sneak away from, and let Tes handle the situation.

Another Slytherin then walked up to them and snapped at Leo. What was everyone's problem with the guy? He just wanted to sit down and do whatever he wanted to do! Honestly, Ophelia was impressed that he didn't seem to feel overwhelmed by all the yelling; if it were here, she would've started tearing up by now.

Then another Hufflepuff joined and she defended Leo. Ophelia was glad that nobody had started a duel at this point. This was getting out of hand, though, and if nobody was going to stop it, she probably should. The last thing she wanted was for the librarian to come over here and scold them all, possibly giving them all detention; and because Ophelia wasn't doing anything, she didn't want to be stuck with a bunch of arguing first years for more time than she already had! The discussion was very pointless and unnecessary.

"Okay, okay, okay, stop, everyone!" She stood up, trying to get control of the situation, "Hi, Leo," she turned to face him, "You're welcome to sit next to us, the table is large enough for three people, finding another table will be an even more unnecessary waste of time than this argument."

Then, she turned to Tes, "he really isn't bothering us with staying here, Tessie, stop yelling at him for nothing, please?" She hoped the girl understood the uncomfort Ophelia felt and was still feeling. Despite that, though, she found it extremely essential to step in and do something.

Girls, so sorry for disturbing your peace here, I understand how unsettling this... whole thing is," she turned to the girls who'd joined the discussion not long ago and took Leo's side or yelled at him. Poor Leo, Ophelia thought. Suddenly feeling embarrassed at a not-so-well-given speech and apologies, she sat back down, face a bit red from embarrassment, as she tried to hide it in her hands.[color]
