Fly Like a Rocketeer

His initial discomfort began to dissipate as soon as all the players took their places on the pitch and the whistle blew in their ears. Richard resumed his usual posture of an enthusiastic spectator, watching the chasers launch themselves after the Quaffle with surprising determination for a mere unofficial match. Max, in particular, caught his attention. For someone who called himself a beginner, his determined face revealed his inner fire of wanting to win no matter what.
“Go Vidler! Prove to us that the reds have what it takes,” he shouted vigorously.
He couldn't have done any better. Vidler was the Prefect of the worst house, after all! Despite all the noises, he saw the Prefect catch the Quaffle and follow up to score the first goal. Richard let out an enthusiastic, yet furious, "Whoooo!". He then raised an impressed eyebrow when he saw Colin dodge his teammate at the last moment, and then found himself swept up in excitement once more when Olivia scored the second goal.
“That’s what I’m talking about!” he grumbled under his breath, then, his eyes still fixed on the field, he turned his head slightly toward his teammates on the bench. “I think the keeper… OUCH!” he exclaimed, wincing as Ava had just taken a particularly brutal Bludger. That’s was a K.O in his books ! Richard was very glad to be on the bench, even though, for a brief moment, he thought the Bludger was going to disfigure him instead.

The great banner made by the darling Denise Yarbrough.
Paul loved the commotion that broke out after Tatiana blew the whistle. Everyone was flying so fast that he wasn't sure how he'd keep up, if he'd keep up at all. The people on the bench went crazy. The chasers went after the Quaffles, Seekers after the Snitch. Paul would swear he saw it for a moment, passing right next to his right ear at the very beginning. So he turned to the right to check it out, but it had flown away already. "Huh... fast'n'stealthy, tiny buzzer!"Place: Grounds, Quidditch pitch

It was what he needed to get distracted from his thoughts about the overall atmosphere of Quidditch. The turmoil was exactly what he was enjoying in all sports. So he leaned forward on his broom, as he spotted a bludger making its way around him, he rushed after it.
Paul didn't really have enough time nor space to check his teammates. But every now and then, he raised his eyes from the actions around the Bludgers. One of such instances was when Persephone grabbed the Quaffle and passed it to Max who scored. "Ugh... Livy go f'r it, ya can do it!" Cheered the young Gryffindor.
No bludgers anywhere around yet. Amazing!
Then, he spotted Dido and Ophelia, as they were about to both hit the same bludger. He looked for the person they were about to hit, and saw that it must have been Colin, who was just about to... well, do his thingy on Ava. Huh... no way! "Not our Colin, lot!" Exclaimed the boy, as he got his bet ready to intercept their bludger.
"I-I... whoa!" Forced out the boy, grimacing and crouching a little, as he saw the effects of his interception. "Oops... sorry, lass!" Did he call to @Persephone Grimsbane.

Broom. Nimbus 1500 —————————————————————Action. As strategized
ReducioIn the role of Chaser when you attempt to catch a passed Quaffle (such as when the Keeper has possession of the Quaffle and passes it to a teammate) you have advantage (meaning that it is rolled twice and you keep the better option) on attempts to catch if the opponent team attempts to intercept. The game began, and Max was off. The plan for him was clear, and he focused like a laser. The only thing breaching his imaginary shield of concentration was the voice of Richard from the second string bench. It put a smile on his face, no one could say he didn’t make his house and team proud. Not if he had anything to say about it.
The quaffle was up for grabs, and he breathed a sigh of relief as Poppy was quicker than he was and got her hands on it. He caught it easily when passed, and flew like a dart towards the hoops. For a millisecond he got confused, as it seemed the other teams keeper was preoccupied with something else entirely. But he didn’t let it pester him long. Two beautiful shots, if he were to say so himself.
The second quaffle grab went much the same way with him scoring once, and he now had a grin on his face that was growing by the seconds. Passing Poppy, he stretched out his hand to offer a high-five. «Now that’s worth talking about!»Now he managed to get his hands on the quaffle from the get-go. No need for a middleman, or woman, when he himself was amazing! Keeping an iron tight hold on the ball, he soared toward the hoops and scored for the fourth and fifth time.
Whoever said that he should stick with being a beater because of his strength was an idiot, as he had already had far more success as a chaser. Of course the only one that had ever uttered such words to his face were himself, but he didn’t let the thought fester. He was now in such a good mood, and his focus was slipping. Grabbing for the quaffle next, he even managed to slightly hurt himself in the ruffle. No matter, he shook it off. The last quaffle grab went slightly better, but not much.
He shook it off as best he could as he scanned the rest of the playing field. To his disappointment the fifth year was still very much on his broom. But only one first year had fallen so far, so the situation wasn’t that bleak. «Let’s go get ‘em!» He circled the field as he got ready to go again.

Fear is temporary, regret is forever
This was going better than Ophelia had thought it would. Max was doing a great job as a chaser, and Ophelia wondered if he'd played as one before this match. Like always, the boy seemed determined to win, and Ophelia respected that side of him. She grinned when Tatiana announced that Max scored 50 points, "Great job, Max!" she called out, although she wasn't sure if he'd heard her. Then, @Olivia Cuthburt scored 10 points, and Ophelia grimaced at that, "Tsk tsk."
Ophelia and Dido's attempts at the Dopplebeater action toward @Colin McCoire were semi-successful. @Paul Turner had stepped in at intercepted the bludger toward Persephone, and Ophelia winced at how much it could've hurt the girl, "Y'alright?" She yelled.
Okay, maybe the game wasn't going as good as she hoped it would, but it was only the first round, she knew she probably shouldn't be having negative thoughts right now; she didn't want to get distracted because of them and lose track of the progress and of the bludger.
On the negative side, Ava got knocked off her broom by none other than Colin; thankfully, she was caught by Tatiana. Ophelia sighed in relief at that, "Thank goodness," she muttered. On the positive side, though, they had scored 50 points already. If they kept going with this pace, something beneficial would eventually happen, and she was waiting to see what it was and when it was going to happen.

The moment the quaffle was up, Poppy had locked on. She was determined to be of better service to her team than she'd been with the last. Most would say it had been an unofficial match and that there was nothing to either avenge or be redeemed from. Someone tell that to the burning in her chest that insisted she be better this time. She'd never place it anywhere near obsession, but her body was a live wire as she rushed for the quaffle.Team: @Maximilianus Kenneally Vidler, @Silas Norwood, @Ava Lynn, @Alice Wang, @Danielle Kim Angeles, @Richard de Montmorency, @Dido Bleakbane, @Ophelia Vanderbilt, @Sabrina Lyons & @Laasya ManjunathDo you ever feel like a misfit?
✪ Everything inside you is dark and twisted ✪
She got it!
She...holy kneazle, she actually... "Max!" she called, sending it over to him. He scored. HE SCORED!! Well. Uh. Of course, he did with the other team's keeper...uh...occupied? Distracted? Did it lessen the taste of victory if there hadn't been opposition? Was that still the Gryffindor way? They weren't exactly on house teams, but a good few of them were lions.
She didn't have the time to fall into existential dread. The quaffle was back into play, and she was zipping there in an instant. Like before, she handed it off to Max, and like before...er...with some help from the opposing keeper, she supposed...they scored!
Poppy grinned widely as Max flew over, meeting his high five with one of hers and an excited grin to boot. "Let's see how many more we've got in us." Hopefully enough to win the game, even if their seeker didn't manage to catch the snitch. It was an unenviable role, Poppy decided. She still clearly remembered her own anxiety while she'd tried searching for that darn thing in the last matc—
Was that...was that a...??
The little girl spun quickly on her broom, scrambling to get away from the bludger that was now barreling toward her. Not quick enough. Before she could dive, the metal death ball smacked her square in the back. It knocked the wind right out of her, causing her to gasp and wheeze as she tried to steady herself.
It was her first official bludger, the thing she'd dreaded since the moment she heard about Quidditch, and ...it hurt more than she'd imagined.
"Oops... sorry, lass!"
Paul. Not a teammate but a housemate. She tried to assure him she was fine—that she'd taken the bludger on the chin like those in her house were expected to do, but when she opened her mouth, all that came out was a strangled, half-muffled sound of pain that she tried to contain. She didn't even know where the quaffle was but had to pull herself together.
"Y'alright?" Ophelia asked.
That..that probably required an answer. Had to assure her beater she was okay. Didn't need her worrying over her.
"I'm—" she coughed once. "I'm alright!" At least, she would have to be.

The game started and her team had managed to score 50 points. But it looked like Max had burnt his hands with the quaffle. And what in the world was the opposite team’s keeper doing? Well, she was not one to complain as it meant more points for the sky riders. The other chaser on the other team had scored only 10 points. Which meant that the skyriders were ahead by 40 points.
As for the bludger, it did manage to cause some damage, unfortunately it was to Poppy. Ophelia and Dido had tried to send one bludger together to that fifth year who said that there would be first years falling, however one of his teammates had intercepted it. Thankfully, she was still on her broom.
Meanwhile, Laasya flew up and about, trying to locate that fifth year. She flew quickly as possible, trying to make him fall off. Then to her horror, she saw that he had collided with their seeker, sending her off her broom. Thankfully, the referee had put the slowing charm on her. In her annoyance, she flew even faster. Unfortunately, he had managed to evade.“Manjunath, penalty lap,” The referee announced with her eyebrow raised. Oh well, she’d get him next time. She just needed to focus next time.

Upon spying a familiar face who often graced these matches with her presence, Cecilia mirrored her smile and waved before the players took to the skies. You think they would have exchanged names by now, but they always seemed to miss the opportunity to familiarise themselves with one another. Still, the young fox did not fret for she felt certain that their paths would cross again. It often did.
Cecilia’s eyes darted across the pitch as chaos quickly ensued. It seemed as though those skyriders had it out for Colin. The idea certainly was not daft, but she would not dare to admit that aloud. Fortunately, their attempts to chase him down were swiftly deterred for now. Although he was now sentenced to circle the pitch, he did well to rid them of their seeker. Jumping up, she applauded her Slytherin senior.
“Go, Colin!” She cheered loudly, attempting to drown out other distractions (and failing) while pumping a fist into the air. Admittedly, she wished to be out there playing, but for now, this was all she could do for her team.
The chilly air prickled her skin as she sat back down. Cecilia fell silent once more and hugged her arms close to her body. Why couldn’t these games ever take place on a sunny day?

The instant surge of utter exultation that Dido was filled with as the game began was worth every moment of waiting and yearning that had gone on until then. It was a Quidditch match. A proper one. The girl was blinded for a moment, sheer joy clouding her vision but, as the other players began to whip around the pitch, corks from bottles, Dido managed to shake off the overwhelming sensations and look at what her team was doing. Quickly enough, she caught sight of Ophelia, her compatriot in their roles as beaters.
Dido soared towards the Gryffindor, bat at the ready, focus not on the girl in front of her, but the bludger hurtling towards them at breakneck speeds. She shut her eyes, whispered a small plea to whatever being was currently most invested in her life, and swung her bat in synchronisation with Ophelia, right at the blond fifth year on the opposing team. To her almost-delirious excitement, the bats made a satisfying CRACK noise as the ball was hit away from them and Dido stared after it, tracking its path right towards… No!
Another first year flew into the bludger’s path and whacked it with his bat, sending it spinning towards Persephone. Dido opened her mouth to warn the girl but, even as she began to speak, the bludger hit home. Dido looked positively squeamish as the Gryffindor coughed out a confirmation that she was, indeed, alright. Dido would have to be extra aware about bludgers flying towards her as that did not look at all appetizing.
Almost as soon as Dido had come to the rather sensible conclusion, it was immediately tested when, out of the corner of her eye, she saw another bludger crashing in her direction. With an almost-characteristic-by-now yelp, Dido soared out of the way, the bludger narrowly missing her. This match was not thrilling, as she had initially decided. It was terrifying.

Denise is not of a violent nature; she considers herself a polite and kind girl. However, bludgering Dido Bleaklane sounded like a fun and exciting task. She didn't have anything against the girl... but she did have to remember her extreme, mean-spirited commentary for an unofficial match that Bleaklane herself hosted. Well, it was better than bludgering Max Vilder, Laasya Manjunath, and Persephone Grimsbane, with whom she developed a nice bond.
Much to her horror, she missed. Well, damn Bleaklane, Denise thought.
The first match was already interesting as it could be. Colin McCoire was already the star, and clearly the object of the other team's venom and hatred. She watched in jealousy as McCoire easily blatched Ava Lynn. She wished she could one day reach that level, as she had never really successfully blatched anyone yet. Well, Contraire was kind enough to levitate the girl, but she would have loved to see a bloody crash.
Poor Laasya Manjunath tried to blatch Colin McCoire, which did not succeed. Colin McCoire, an expert in cheating, did get caught regardless, and off he went to his penalty lap.
Why wasn't I able to hit Bleaklane? She felt upset as it was her first time as a beater, but had to take a deep breath and keep going... well, technically flying...

Derek sat alone on a bench near the edge of the Quidditch pitch. He had a bunch of books spread out next to him. There was a game happening. Cheers and whistles came over every now and then.. Derek barely noticed the Quidditch game. His eyes were glued to the pages in front of him.
One book was about Quidditch tactics. Another book was full of match breakdowns. The third book was just full of Dereks notes. He flipped between the Quidditch books scanning diagrams and his messy handwriting, comparing and connecting Quidditch ideas.
Once in a while Derek would break his focus long enough to scribble something in the margins of the notebook balanced on his knee. A new Quidditch formation, a weak spot he spotted in the Quidditch game maybe a counter for a Quidditch strategy he had tossed aside earlier.
The work was hard. Derek did not care. Most Quidditch players counted on reflexes or raw talent but that was not Dereks thing. He would much rather be ready for the Quidditch game. Derek knew Quidditch games did not get won out on the Quidditch pitch. Half the Quidditch battle happened before anybody even picked up a broom for the Quidditch game.
Derek flipped another page. Studied a complicated Quidditch diagram for a few seconds then scratched out something in his Quidditch notes and replaced it with a new Quidditch idea. The old Quidditch plan had a hole in it. This new Quidditch plan was definitely sharper.
The noise from the Quidditch match got louder followed by some applause from the stands. Derek barely glanced up at the Quidditch game.
He stayed locked in digging through his Quidditch books.
With every bit of Quidditch info everything started clicking together for the Quidditch game. By the time Derek finally closed that Quidditch book he realized he was not just prepping for a Quidditch match.
He was piecing together a blueprint, for Quidditch victory.
