LETTERS FROM HOME

Dear Denisse,
We wish you are doing well at Hogwarts. We miss you very much and are so proud of how you are handling your first year.

We have something which we had to share of a very special nature. It appears that Dylan has developed magical abilities at home. The other day, he made one of Dahlia’s toys lift into the air for a few seconds’ time.

We at first thought was a product of his imagination. Your father and I were taken aback. At such a young age he is so full of magic which is at the same time strong and unpredictable. We know this may be hard for you to grasp at first, and maybe even to accept, but we want you to know that your gifts are no less special. Dylan’s magic may be the showstopper which everyone notices, but yours has always been there steady, protective and very much a part of who you are.

We are very proud of you both. You each bring to our family a special something which we think will have great balance in the way your talents play off each other which at this point you may not even realize.

Take care Denisse, keep at it and know that we love you very much.

With care,
Mum and Dad
LETTER TO PARENTS
Dear Mum and Dad,

I have held back on this for far too long; I just can't hold it in anymore. It feels as if each letter I get from you is all about Dylan — his spark, his magic, his talents. I know how much pride you take in my little brother, and that's great. However, the truth of the matter is, it hurts me.

I am currently at Hogwarts, studying harder than I could possibly imagine. I study late to practice spells. I commit each spell/incantation to memory. I give each class my full effort. I have done things that Dylan never dreamed of: frozen my model in midair when I was 9. That was real magic. That was me.

But when I read your letters, it feels like none of that matters. I seem to be invisible. Like I’ll always be second best.

I'm not jealous. I don't want to hate Dylan. But I need you to see me. To tell me that you too are proud of me. My magic is not loud or flashy, but rather strong. It protects. It endures. But one day it will count no less than his.

Please don't forget that I am your daughter as well!

Sincerely,
Denisse
