It’s not the end of the world. That's what she had always thought for herself. Grades didn't matter an A especially it was fine. Much better than a T. But for some people it seemed like their whole entire livelihood is ruined and in shambles. What a nonsense way of thinking. Perhaps some really were forced to be upheld in ridiculous standards. Studying was her strong suit, especially revising and taking notes, she knew shorthand too so it checks out. Transfiguration was her strong classes although she wouldn't have wonder why. Many people weren't as good at transformation. Much less knowing the principles. Maybe one thing that you can benefit from going to muggle schools was the subjects. Angel had that luxury some purebloods didn't have that unfortunately or those who had fully grown into the wizarding world completely sheltered from muggle life.
Brains and pretty. It wouldn't be a surprise either if people felt like she tried too hard. Alas, they were yet to find themselves wrong as well. Angel was a laid back person, but when the time calls she puts effort if she needs too. From studying and all that. Classes and lessons weren't so demanding. Winter break was almost starting and she was supposed to be a bit more faster with the lessons and notes.
Graceful. In everything she does she always shows it with finesse and elegance. Poised and also very casual. A calm and feel good energy. Angel always wants to be making a good impression on people. Not for fame or for the compliments but because giving a nice impression can really help. Cynical definitely not her at all. Despite being from a rich background she was not at all the privileged. Her parents believe doing things from scratch, from the ground up helped. So no, she did not have maids or butlers, no private tutors or school. Instead she was raised to be independent and went to a public school like the other kids back in Caerphilly. Modest and honest all together.
Unfortunately sometimes being confident and taking pride of your work, can be mistaken or mistranslated to "I'm above you all!" which for Angel was not her intention or her message at all. With people whose brains are stiff, they won't really hear it at all. They will rather think of you as someone prideful or horrible. If one can say she was honest, then she believed it was getting silly and tiring. No matter how many times she'd ask them that no, all she does is try to put effort and actually make her mark.
Teachers were praising her on how well she does with her school work. That can be said since then and now. Top of her class and always kind and never ever will she step out of line. Pragmatic and amiable for better wording. Hearing some students complain or groan at the sight of their marks. It can be a bit odd to be the few that actually has a decent mark.

Dahlia's transfiguration homework was glaring at her with animosity. The header was menacing. Her own penmanship slithered snakishly across the page. Each question sounded in her head as a taunt. They were mocking her. However, none of those were the main culprit.
An oversized, glaring 'A' sat squarely near the corner of the parchment. The shape was offensive. Dahlia did not approve of straight lines (or so she decided in that moment.) A letter with three was suspicious.
It must not be hers. Such was the Gryffindor's first thought. Surely, the homework had been mixed up with another student, one who got A's often. Dahlia glanced at the name on the paper. It was her own, signed in cursive with a heart on the i because, yes, she was that type of girl. The A was hers. Her mother would be furious.
Dahlia could imagine the howler if her mother were to find out. Absolutely not. It was imperative that she find a way to hide this. Her mother would request all of her work to be returned when she came home for the summer. She knew this as a fact. One assignment though... Surely she wouldn't notice that one was missing.
Her gaze darted to her fellow classmates, an idea forming slowly but surely. If only she could convince someone to switch papers... Contrarily, she could switch the papers herself while distracting them. It was mean, yes, and certainly against the rules but, then again, this was a life-or-death scenario. (No it was not. She was attempting to avoid a grounding at worst.) She had to act.
Slow, lazy steps carried the young witch over to the desk next to hers. Most of the class had left for free time but one remained. A-ha. Dahlia glanced down at the girl's returned assignment. "Oh, you got an A... Hm." Dahlia spoke with a tone laden in judgement. Her facial expression, with raised brows and pursed lips, was the sort of facial expression that implied that her own grade was superior. Wrong. She had the idea to mooch off of this girl, a stranger to her, to avoid future trouble. How embarrassing. A hand ran through her hair. Dahlia was supposed to be perfection incarnate and yet this is what she had resorted to. May Merlin curse her impulses.

In due time, her assignment was handed over to her neatly placed on her desk. A big O for a grade. As expected. Ah that grade looked marvelous like Swan Lake. Confident, poised even she looked over at the girl who seemed to be confused. No she didn't get a A but a O. The girl had an A. That's unfortunate. Although Angel could've been more clear with her expression it looked like she was amused. Intrigued even that someone got a grade A. But that was not the case. She was only amused because the girl seemed wide eyed at her. What was it? The perfect grade or something else.
Cocking her head to the side she was smiling slightly confused and began to speak.
"Hello? You seem to be taking a liking to my paper? Is there something off?" she asked almost like the words were a gust of wind
Unfortunately sometimes people can be a bit peculiar with educated guesses and this was not one of them. Her guess and analysis was far off then what was intended. In fact the girl's words was far from the truth. She had gotten an O not a A. As reinstated from her previous gaze.
"Oh— actually it's not a A but a O, sorry. I think my quill covered my paper." she says, as she took the quill from covering the paper any further the shrouded grade began to present itself. In a sunlight bathed in what looked like metaphorically in riches.
Now besides the paper, she wanted to take a closer look to the girl. Strict demeanor maybe even cold. A Gryffindor? She had met one before but this lion seemed territorial. In a literal sense the girl didn't seemed pleased with the fact that Angel had been very well with her studies especially with Transfiguration. In her years of knowing and studying her Dhampir lineage, sometimes a Vampire can transform to a bat. Much better known as transformation or transfiguration it was to be known people descent from Vampires had an advantage. The girl herself had unique features of her own but it wasn't pasty as hers. Yet she would have to be honest maybe she also had a quirky lineage like her.
Not wanting to stir the tea, Angel decided to just stay clear for a bit. Unless the angry lion had other ideas she simply stayed put. Angel turning her attention again to the girl moved her lips to the side. Was she angry or annoyed? One would never know.
"You seemed to be troubled? Is something bothering you miss?" she asked promptly with a confident manner to her words it would sound very posh as her lips softly moved
It would be very rude to assume if someone was having a bad day. But in this situation it would be very evidently so. The expression of the girl's face turned out to be more weirded out then ever. An odd encounter. Her outfit kept and tidy she chooses to pack her stuff getting ready to leave the class to be prepared for her own voyage. But it would be very insipid, dreary, dull, uneventful or lackluster to be wasting her time just waiting idly for the classes to start again. They had free time. And perhaps she was even saved. Angel could catch her breath. In the years before her own batchmates came to attend Hogwarts. Free time or free period was not a thing.
Grabbing her book, Pick-Up by Charles Willeford. Noir genres were her personal favorites. Gritty style and a unique offers and taste. As she read the atmosphere began to become more cautious and anxious. Her sharp senses made her look back. What happened? The sudden shift in air. Something has been amiss.
Flipping through pages. If only she had the power to know what will happen beforehand. Dramatic irony was not her thing, she would be glad to know what will happen to her next. But being too cautious of anything will limit someone. Angel decided to just go with the flow and time. She had a lot to go and burn.
Students came and go to finish tests or just be silly and disrupt the peace. No matter, some even regonized her calling her name saying quick hellos while going back outside again. Her head turned to the pages of her book for leisure. It was quite pleasant. But the girl from before surely hadn't been doing much. Glanced left and right. Unfortunate she had been left alone again. This time she was beginning to feel something was off. Her awful assumption was she did not like her being her at all. But what for?
Talking would not be tedious or anything else that was as much as a bore. Converse and talk that will surely let the girl know she was up to talking maybe she was just nervous.
"Now, tell me what did you think of this class? I thought it was quite interesting really!" the words bubbled up. Her voice began to be more light and airy
"Mukhang naiinis siya." she said with a reserved tone, almost a memo to herself
While she spoke, she continued to flip the pages to her book.

Several blinks brought Dahlia back to reality. She was being talked to, or, well, conversed with. Conversation was welcome on a typical day— the witch was known for talking more than she ought to. She delighted in discourse, debate, dialogue... the works.
Today was decisively not her typical day. It had suffered greatly in the past hour and, although it would likely rebound later when Dahlia was distracted, the prognosis for it at the moment was only deteriorating.
For instance, Dahlia had not accounted for the girl responding to her when she had decided to interact. That was, most often, the consequence of making a remark. However, as was similar with the ploy to swap their papers, cause and effect had evaded her entirely.
Dahlia was, fortunately, not left unarmed. She had a complete lack of fear in her eyes, and, because of her sour mood, the spirit of bitterness in her heart. "Where did you buy your ink? The color looks bad." Straightforward as always. The witch pursed her upper lip, as if in pity. She had no strong feelings about ink (aside from the supremacy of glitter in ink but that stemmed from the supremacy of glitter in everything.) However, the spirit of improvisation compelled her. "You should try using the imported kind. I think it would suit you." She hummed. "Try-hard in grades and try-hard in ink. It matches, no?" Her delivery reeked of negative implications. In congruence, a smirk crossed her mouth not because she believed her own words but because she was satisfied in their craftsmanship.
The words were deserved... not cruel but sufficiently rude for the special type of prick this girl seemed to be. She insulted the girl's ink choice— not her entire being— which was merciful on her part. The girl appeared to be the sort of individual who labeled her socks and never ate sweets after dinnertime: a disaster. She ought to be grateful for the ink recommendations.
"Troubled? Why would you think that?" Her voice rose an octave, mercy falling away immediately. A relaxed expression was attempted and failed immediately. Her eyebrow muscles tensed without compliance, jaw set in a way that indicated grinding teeth.
Thankfully, Angel had provided her a fine and suitable opening for a rant. "This class? It's actually the worst. I don't know who invented it but I actually hate them." she started, gaining momentum as she spoke. "It's a sorry excuse for a class. When will we ever need to transfigure a snail into a teapot? Like, when? The chances of fighting a dark wizard in a British garden, transfiguring a snail into a teapot, and winning by pouring tea on the dark wizard's head are non-existent. Charms at least have some flair to their uselessness." Dahlia was quick to defend her favorite class with a roll of her eyes. "Transfiguration is boring, relies on memorizing math formulas, and is useless. Pick a struggle." The Gryffindor's insult was aimed at the class rather than her partner in conversation and, yet, through her tone, it seemed as if she were yelling at the girl directly. It was an under-appreciated talent.

A question was raised imported from her mouth, seemed passionate but passive aggressive. Her preferences would be much different and she prefers the ones that blend and fade, fits her more personally. Although she wouldn't know in the slightest if her response that will follow will register or not.
"My preferences would differ from yours then." she said bluntly
Her assessment was unsolicited but it would do. Angel could only chuckle and laugh slightly like a whisper as her hands slightly with her maple lips. The girl continued to rant vastly about her greviences with the class. Talking about how tedious and redundant it was.
"I think every class has it's use. Knowing the basics helps us get the concepts." she continued
Now she took a slight pause before going the latter to speak again. Perhaps she let the air go through as to settle the silence. Breathing room so the words have a chance to linger the air. Angel grabbed a page of her book to keep herself busy, the conversation might become a bore. Outspoken but they take energy and time. Right now she couldn't be compelled to try to argue so she'll just take it easy. At least enough for the her to rest.

Healthy, differing opinions were positive. Dahlia knew this well. She held a strong distaste for those who agreed solely for the sake of agreement or concealed their own opinions as to keep peace.
That ought to be a point in the girl's favor. She was not dull enough to accept Dahlia's suggestion mindlessly. Perhaps she deserved the high grade in transfiguration. Nevertheless, transfiguration was a subject that lacked imagination, hence, the Gryffindor held little respect for those who excelled in it. Precision and concentration were lauded by many but Dahlia did not find herself among them.
Her contrary mood dwindled at the contradiction although the shift in her expression was minimal: the slightest lift in the corners of her mouth. Discourse often brightened her spirits. Dahlia's reply came quickly, "Oh really? I'm sure it will change if you try. I find that words are far more remarkable when they pop from the page." She noted, in reference to the glitter, "Standard ink colors are so basic." The bite of her remark remained with less snark.
The witch had begun another tirade so there was little one could do to stop her. "Mmmm..." A hum escaped her lips at the apology, whether genuine or not. "Yes. It technically is your fault." Wheels were turning in Dahlia's head with debatable functionality. "You are promoting its existence and, as long as people speak well of transfiguration, it will remain as a subject." The traces of an idea were beginning to take shape in Dahlia's mind. It was her duty to speak ill of transfiguration publicly. This was for the sake of future generations of Hogwarts students who would not have to take a subject with what she perceived as little intellectual value or practical use. The concrete steps of such a scheme? Dahlia did not know. She was confident in her goals but not nearly focused or organized enough to put together and carry out multi-step endeavors such as this.
She could, however, attempt to change the girl's mind. "What's the point of learning a spell for ground work if it does not have any use in itself? We should start with the hardest spells, actually, and get a head start on learning them," Dahlia was not yet ready to stop or concede. The words, for once, coincided with the girl's actual beliefs. Her nose twitched at the thought of entering a duel or dangerous situation with only knowing the Dancing Feet Spell. What was she supposed to do? Make the Dark Wizard dance? She held back a giggle at the thoughts she did not vocalize.
Dahlia's head tilted at the manner in which the girl, Angel introduced herself, flattered but vaguely confused. Her mother was high status; aside from tutoring promising witches and wizards, Sooji Lee spent her forming connections with other wizardfolk of similar status. Dahlia considered herself universally talented— she did not have to work for her perfection nor was she subject to the same misfortunes as others— but she held no celebrity status in that way among her peers. Did she? Angel's words gave her the thought, and the confidence, to assert herself.
"Probably." A single word possessed more confidence than a whole explanation on her status or lack thereof. Denying she held status implied the lack of status— certainly untrue. Hence, she approximated reality. "Dahlia Lee. Pleasure." She mirrored Angel's words back to her.
Her eyes drifted towards the lollipop, paper forgotten entirely. (The half-Veela did not recognize it as anything other than a piece of candy.) It would be nice of the girl to offer her one but, alas. The thought of strawberry candy made her stomach rumble. Hiding her mediocre grade from her mother was now a later-Dahlia problem. She had greater problems: partaking in this argument before finding herself a snack. Dahlia Lee did not suffer a difficult life.

With the slight smile she could decipher from the girl, she looked amused. Almost glad she had a differing opinion. Now this was interesting, perhaps a little experiment? It would definitely pass the time anyway. This conversation was about to turn to a debate, in which Angel did not even asked for, only she misdirected her language and that was the cause for a mistranslation in her voice.
"Ang sama nito, nakakapagod talaga siyang kasama."
That was the truth, this girl looked really horrid in the inside. Only her ears perked to the Gryffindor's rant once again, the Slytherin only nodded. The girl remains persistent on changing the mind of her's. Only she shook her head, she did not get it did she? Beginning to feel too close for comfort yet in a second she was able to tolerate the lion's bickering. The lion didn't look like the type to understand nuance or perhaps understand tone. Argumentive at best.
"Well, sure you have a point, but I guess I just have a different perspective. Starting with the hardest spells is like doing calculus when you don't even know your addition. Starting with the hardest tools when you don't even know the basic safety rules in the kitchen. That's my thinking at least." she smiled no she did not see this as a argument but a conversation a civil one.
Witty. Angel with her nonchalance can pretty much irritate people, almost acting cynical but yet it was just her, being a blunt person with a pretty face. It was about time before some asked, "Are you angry?" with a quick phrase she would've said "No, I'm not." again her tone didn't help it was clear and eloquent yet. straightforward.
The snake simply cocked her head to the side Hlher lips perched slowly lost in thought. All she can do was wait patiently. Nonchalant honestly it would've been worse, Angel would've been compelled to stop talking. It takes it toll.

A proper understanding of Angel's words evaded Dahlia. Filipino was not among the languages the witch spoke: English fluently, Korean conversationally, French and Veela from her private studies. She did not care to decipher. If the Slytherin had desired a response from her, she would have selected a language Dahlia understood. The Gryffindor was not in the business of assuming the worst of others. Hence, the insult slipped past her, unnoticed.
Dahlia continued. The lightness in her posture did not suggest anger. She delighted in argument, in discussion. A fine line was drawn between the two in the eye of the public, one that lay exclusively in tone. Dahlia did not speak harshly. Her words, although crassly chosen, were delivered with the level-headed accuracy of a witch subjected to lessons in oration from the age of six. Intention was of the essence. She did not intend, as one would in a discussion, to meet in agreement, but rather to challenge for the sake of challenging and, ultimately, to assert her own superiority over her opponent. Angel was there. Hence, she became the opponent.
"Safety concerns are detrimental to learning." A bold take but Dahlia stood by it, at least for the moment. "Professors exist for a reason. They ought to teach us the most dangerous tools early so kids don't try to teach themselves in the abandoned toilets. It's for the greater good." Her upper lip curled, pleased with her own demonstration of skill. One arm crossed over the other idly. Enjoyment need not announce itself. It was evident in her opinions— they were crafted with enjoyment, pleasure, anything but belief. Words ought to spark joy in at least the speaker, if not the listener. The latter was exclusively aspirational.
Dahlia did not care to impress Angel in particular, nor the abstract concept of those who are spoken to. No. For the amount of thought the Gryffindor put in, the ideas that emerged from her mouth did not sound half-bad. Rather, a workable pedagogy began to emerge. If she were, somehow, to bring note to the administration regarding the safety concerns caused by safety concerns, then, perchance, they could bid adieu to theory lessons as a concept. They were depressing. Even the Dahlia of tomorrow, and who knows what her beliefs were, would stand by the elimination of theory lessons as a part of flying courses as an act of service towards next year's first years.

It seems her point went overboard with the horrid Lion. But it would seem like she had better priorities. Whatever the Dahlia's errands to be with her would be going down in the dump. Dahlia was beginning to lose her. Losing interest so it seems. Safety concerns were already a given. Her point was what was the use of learning the hardest of spells when you don't even know the basic ones. The hardest spells are redundant, useless at best if that were the case. The girl was no longer her problem.
"Oh I didn't mean safety, I apologize if you did not understand, I will simplify it. I meant that doing the hardest stuff without knowing the basics is only setting someone up for failure. It would not benefit them and the hardest stuff would only be redundant despite how efficient they may be. In this case that would be spells." she said constructively
Now Angel was taking in the silence. She did enjoy the Lion's rant although she wouldn't want to admit it. It was very amusing to see people get riled up over something so trivial. But yet, she could not digress. Even she can be so irritated at something simple. Pet peeves is what they would call it.
Angel packed her stuff as it was almost starting to feel a bit better to leave. But Dahlia might be throwing a fit if she did, maybe? Who knows. The Lion might scowl again. She fixed her hair and straightened her robe. The green tie showing brightly. It's forest green only meant that she was Slytherin. Gryffindors and Slytherins never really got along. Different blood statuses and perhaps uptight and cold, one passionate and cocky. Angel never really understood why there was certain characteristics for the houses. Metaphorically or maybe it was something else.

It is a rare occurrence for a hook so bold to appear in front of Dahlia's nose. It was nearly enough to cause the Gryffindor to giggle out of pure glee. This girl, Angel, had a predisposition for walking directly into opportunities for increasingly convoluted and ridiculous counterarguments. For fairness' sake, anyone who appeared to hold genuine beliefs fell into this category. However, Angel held many. She approached the conversation logically and with a level of seriousness that astounded Dahlia to the point where she had not thought it possible especially coming from someone of her own age. Perhaps the trait was more common among the Slytherin lot.
A deep breath was required as Dahlia had much to say. "There, again. Who is to say that failure ought to be prevented? Do we not require failure first to grow and achieve our potential? Also, it hinders those who are more talented than the rest in that they have to wait until everyone else is ready to learn a spell when they could have studied it years prior," she took a pause before continuing what was arguably a tirade, "It makes no sense to shelter students from the difficult reality that is spell casting. It is a coward's method." Dahlia finished with great self-satisfaction.
She put on a cloying smile, taking a performative glance toward the door. "Anyway." She chewed on her lip. The pair were still in a classroom they had been liberated from over five minutes prior. What, even was the argument for? While speaking, Dahlia had allowed her negative thoughts on Transfiguration to become a matter of the past. (Until the next class, of course.)
Her gaze fell once again to the dhampir, picking up where she had left off. Merlin forbid the Gryffindor select her words carefully. "I consider myself to have won the debate." She lifted an eyebrow as to give Angel one last chance to challenge her or rebuke her claims. "I, for one, am bored." Dahlia faked a yawn. "So. See you later. Or not. I don't care." The British-Korean girl's lips morphed into a smirk. "You should tell your mom that her lineage, or whatever it is, needs a better debate tutor. You're incompetent." In reality, the witch did not think Angel was all too unpleasant in the way of conversation. The girl was intelligent, albeit in a goody-two-shoes manner. Her egregious incorrectness was a strike against her as was assuming Dahlia did not properly understand her point when, in reality, she had chosen to interpret it in a particular way as to maneuver the odds of victory in her favor. Such oversight implied a lack of perception. Shame.
Dahlia turned on her heel, heading for the door.
