Continuation of Crippled Inside.
The first thing that the semiconscious Hufflepuff girl noticed once they reached the inside of the castle, was the warmth. It felt so good and nice on her cold, damp skin that it made her start shivering as she got goosebumps all over her skin.

The second thing she noticed were the voices; she had been so used to being outside in the pouring rain, that she had actually forgot where she was and that there were others students at Hogwarts beside her and Rafael.

Speaking of Rafael, Lydia managed to slightly open her eyes for a second to look at him, and what she saw worried her even though she was barely conscious; he looked exhausted and cold, his clothes probably as damp as hers from all the rain. She wanted to ask him if he was okay, to make sure that everything was alright, but she couldn't find the strength to di that. Lydia felt herself slip again into unconsciousness, just as she heard a female voice - it was one of the nurses of the Hospital Wing that had come to greet the two soaking wet students- asking what had happened to them in a concerned tone of voice.

[font=Segoe Print]Lydia was far too cold.

It was the first coherent thought that the boy could properly process as he stumbled into the Hospital Wing, his eyes resting upon the beautiful redhead lying limply in his arms. There was something strangely terrifying about the way she looked within his grasp, how fragile and weak she appeared – her skin was like ice, tough and frigid, her face pale and void of emotion, her chest rising and falling in slow, shallow breaths, the result of the hypothermia that was taking ahold of her livelihood and slowly choking her out. She was seemingly lifeless, an empty vessel whose contents were balancing on the edge of the cursed veil, gray and void of all love or breath. The very sight of her set the young Captain on edge, the shivers running down his spine having little to do with his own impending case of hypothermia. The result of his hero complex, or maybe it was just plain anxiety. He didn’t want to see her get hurt. She couldn’t get hurt, not when he had something to say about it.

His knees were weak as he stumbled into the hospital wing, breath coming in whistles and form shaking in exhaustion as he searched half-consciously for somewhere to set her down. The Hospital Wing, as it seemed, was generally unoccupied – a welcome blessing, especially since Lydia looked too cold for unnecessary setbacks such as nosy Ravenclaw. “Nurse? Nurse!” he would call shakily, his voice hoarse and wavering as his eyes soon locked upon an optimal place to put his friend – it was a gurney, only a few short steps from where he currently stood. Perfect. Stumbling forward, he would set her on the hospital bed, before stepping back to allow the nurse to do his work. His eyes were glued onto the lovely girl in concern, his eyes shot through-and-through with a dull sort of exhaustion, his mouth drawn in a thin line, lips cracked, hair matted to his head, falling over his eyes. Such bothersome things could do little to bother him. Would she be okay? It wasn’t too late, now was it?

Standing around, the boy shortly realized, wasn’t going to fix anything, sleep beginning to pull at his own eyelids as his body began to realize that its duty was over. Without even being fully in control of his own actions, he found himself flopping onto a gurney, hypothermia slowly constricting his senses as he fought to stay awake. It would be too easy to say that he hadn’t struggled with the urges – on the contrary, he wanted so badly to sleep, just let himself be captivated by the exhaustion that riddled his senses. It was calling, whisking him away from reality, dragging him down and towards the veil, telling him to succumb to its comforting grasp… yet, he knew he couldn’t, could only keep his eyes open until the nurse could care for him too. Glancing over at the girl once more, he turned on his side, allowing the sight of her to comfort him, keep him awake. It wouldn’t be long, after all, until he too was cared for.

As Rafael placed the red headed girl on the hospital bed, Lydia barely registered in the back of her mind the feeling of the warm blankets or the voices of the Quidditch Captain and the nurse; her mind was fighting to stay conscious, but sleep's sweet embrace was far too tempting: Lydia relaxed on the hospital bed, completely surrendering to the fatigue.

When she opened her eyes again, at first Lydia was completely confused; the light coming in from the windows was far too bright for her eyes, making it difficult for her to even keep them open. She liked a couple of times, as she gave her eyes some time to adjust to the sudden brightness, before she realised that she was in a bed, most likely in the Hospital Wing. She turned her head to the side, and saw an hospital screen separating her "area" from the other beds on the right side.

Definitely the Hospital Wing.

Lydia thought, as she turned, slowly, around, realising then that she was not wearing her clothes, but a Pyjama that the nurse probably had put on her; once she managed to turn on her left side, leaving the hospital screen behind her, Lydia saw Rafael laying on the bed next to hers, his face turned towards her. The moment that she saw him, more of the fog that was clouding her mind seemed to clear a little, and everything that had happened on the rocks, and before that, came back to her, hitting her like a wild ocean wave.

Lydia closed her eyes as she felt the tears gather up and roll down her cheeks; she squeezed them shut, trying in some way to hold them back or make them go away, but all of that was pointless: the wet tears kept falling from her eyes onto the pillow in a silent cry that Lydia hoped no one would notice. She remembered then that Rafael was right in front of her, in the other bed; the realisation made her open her eyes and fix them on the boy. He looked as if he was sleeping, probably exhausted from having to carry Lydia all the way back to the castle, and for having stayed so long under the icy, pouring rain. He seemed at peace at least, his face relaxed and without worries.

Lydia almost jumped when she heard the nurse approach her, and she forced herself to lay on her back once again. The nurse explained her that she had a moderate case of hypothermia, but that she would have been fine, all she had to do for that day was staying in the Hospital Wing drinking hot tea, under warm blankets and the morning after she would have been able to go back to her classes. "I'd like to keep you overnight, just to be sure you don't develop any pneumonia," the nurse had said as he left her a hot cup of tea on the bedside table, before he walked away again.

The Hufflepuff girl sighed and slowly sat up in her bed, making sure to keep the blankets wrapped around her, as she reached for the cup of tea. The hot liquid felt so nice, its warmth spreading to all of her body as she slowly sipped the beverage, before she turned her head again towards Rafael. He had been so kind to not only stay with her and help her through her mental breakdown, but he had also brought her all the way across the grounds into the castle. A faint smile made its way onto her lips, before she took another sip of her tea. She was wondering if the Gryffindor boy was really sleeping, or if he was just pretending; she wanted to thank him for everything he had done, but she figured that could have waited. After all, he deserved some sleep as well.

Lydia put her cup of tea back on the bedside table, before she brought up her knees to her chest and she hugged her legs; she turned her head to the left, resting it over her knees, as she let her gaze wander around, only to go back again on Rafael's face.

[font=Segoe Print]After releasing Lydia into the care of the Hospital Wing nurse, his memories had blurred together a bit.

He could remember getting up sometime after the nurse had begun caring for Lydia, the cause most likely being the need to change – the nurses words, if he could remember correctly, and not his own. Knees weak, eyelids heavy, he’d risen from where he lay, to head to the back rooms for a quick change, surprisingly enough to find a change of his own pyjamas… odd. However, he was a bit too tired to read into it, so rather than argue and contest, he simply put them on, taking the towel offered and drying his soaked head to the best of his ability. The clothes brought little warmth, but he supposed the nurses had a solution. He was too tired to argue at this point. He wasn’t picky. Just cold. At this point, he’d take anything to make him feel better.

Eventually, he returned to the main rooms, only to find that Lydia was still [seemingly] unconscious, the nurses of the Hospital Wing shrouded about her gurney as they cared for her. The very sight of the girl brought a deep sort of anxiety to the chest young Captain, an inkling of dread threading itself through his veins as he stared at the sullen girl, frown tugging at the ends of his blue lips. A positively terrifying sight she was, and the nurses crouching over her didn’t make her visage any better. But he wasn’t in the position to worry for her, not anymore. He could feel the fatigue creeping over his own state of consciousness, the icy tendrils of the pneumonia riddling his livelihood banishing all rational thought as his eyelids slowly began to droop – he couldn’t help but stumble, his balance wavering more and more as the moments wore on. Wow, how many nurses were there? Why did they all have twins? It didn’t matter, he didn’t care anymore, his burning curiosity silenced drowned out by the water in his lungs. He needed to sit down. Or sleep. Yes, sleep sounded nice. Pulling himself upon the hospital bed adjacent to Lydia’s own, he could only maintain consciousness for mere moments longer, before collapsing face-first into his pillow, utterly unmoving as he surrendered to sleep…

It would be after a couple of minutes, that the nurse would come over to his bedside, patting him on his back and asking him to sit up. With much concept and reluctance, the boy was ripped from the slumber that had momentarily consumed him, punctuating his endeavors with a loud groan as he picked himself up, throwing the hood on his PJs all the way over his eyes to block out the light. The nurse would then hand him some sort of drink, in which he would shortly consume, only half-awake – tipping the edge to his lips, he allowed the elixir to invade his throat and stomach, warmth filling up every facet of his body like a breath of life, causing the child to close his eyes and soak in the lovely feeling. He put his legs into an Indian Style position, sipping slowly, before looking around the room. Things seemed to be much clearer, now that he was in a good state of mind, the nurses manning their stations without body doubles, color clear and vibrant, certan facts becoming starkly apparent, such as –

Lydia was awake. When had she resurfaced to the land of the living? He could do nothing to consider this further, his eyes wide in partial shock as the cup slowly fell away from his lips, now resting tranquilly in his hands. What… was he even supposed to do, say, after seeing her so close to death? Or, whatever it was that had consumed all her energy? He found himself suddenly struck with a serious sort of shock, his limbs frozen as he tried to formulate a coherent thought in his blank mind. He would have stayed like this for much longer, if it weren’t for the nurse attending for them, kindly telling him not to sleep with his contacts on. Oh. He needed to say something. Mind blank, his lips began moving before he could properly stop himself. “Hey,” he voiced hoarsely, nodding in her direction. “I see you’re still alive.” Strange words, he absently noticed, but he wasn’t about to take them back. Besides, who was to blame him? A migraine was already beginning to form in his head, a pounding sensation that seemed to drown out plausible thought. Neither of them were in the best condition...

Sometimes it would happen that Lydia would get lost in her thoughts, her eyes staring at something without really seeing anything. Whenever that happened, it usually meant that she was overthinking, or that her mind was so overworked that she just, well, blanked out. This time it was a mix of them both.

“I see you’re still alive.”

At the sound of Rafael's voice, Lydia jumped up in surprise, her eyes quickly moving away from the boy's face, as her whole face became slightly more red. "Hey," she greeted him back, her left hand reaching for her cup of tea. She drank some of the hot beverage before answering Rafael's question, the warmth coming from the hot liquid making her slightly shiver. "I am, yeah. All thanks to you," Her lips curved up in a faint smile that did not reach her eyes. As she held her cup in front of her, Lydia could see her reflection on the surface of the tea; the person staring back at her felt like a stranger, as if she could not recognise herself in that girl.

Biting down on her bottom lip, Lydia carefully put down her mug on the bedside table, before she lifted her eyes to look at Rafael. "Thank you, for coming after me, for bringing me here... for everything. Are you okay?" she asked, completely aware that he mostly likely didn't feel too well, after all he had spent quite some time under the cold, pouring rain as well. Her voice sounded quite loud in the silent room, the two first year students the only people in there; after all, the stays weren't that long in the infirmary, thanks to the nurses taking care of the students.

"I'm so sorry that you had to go through all of that. I guess I wasn't thinking when I ran outside," she apologised, shaking her head. "It's just... I grew up right by the sea, and the ocean and its water has always been there for me. Whenever I would feel upset, or sad, or happy, I would usually ran to the beach and sit on the ground, observing the waves crash against the shore. It didn't matter what season it was, even during winter I would just sit there, my butt in the freezing snow. I can't even remember how many times I've slipped on those little rocks while trying to walk on the snow," a small giggle left her lips, the memories of her past winters bringing her some kind of comfort.

"I think, unconsciously I went to the rocks on the lake to feel as close to home, to the ocean as possible. Grandma always said that the water is part of who we are... I guess with me she was more right than I thought," Lydia added, before her eyes started filling with tears again. She quickly rubbed a hand over them, trying to make the salty drops go away; she didn't want to cry again, and most importantly not in front of Rafael. Even though she had managed to stop her tears, she couldn't do anything to block the sadness and the feeling of uncertainty that kept spreading inside of her. Being a muggle, growing up without magic, that was a fundamental part of who Lydia was, and when she had received her Hogwarts letter, the red headed girl had felt so excited, so special. But now, all of that was just pointless; she was nothing special, she was a witch because her mother was one, and in her eyes all of the effort she had been putting on studying and getting good grades now looked completely worthless.

Lydia didn't even realise she had been silent for a couple of minutes, let alone that she had been torturing her bottom lip as she chewed on it, so when the faint taste of blood reached her brain, she widened her eyes and slightly shook her head. "Sorry- I didn't mean to, well, space out like that," looking back at Rafael, Lydia noticed how exhausted he looked. She nodded towards the pillow, before giving him a faint, small smile. "You should probably rest a little, you must be exhausted," she said, her voice filled with worry.
