[font=Arial MT]Althea sat by the pond, staring at the clear surface of the Great Lake. Beside her, was Hanako Tone, her business partner / 'friend'. She had invited him to hang out at the Great Lake after classes, an attempt at a bonding assignment in hopes of actually being friends in the future. A paperless contract to act as friends was not exactly assuring, and Althea would like to invest her efforts and time in an actual friendship. She had lost sight of Alex a week ago, and she decided that he must have moved on from their childish childhood relationship. Thus, it resulted in her seeking actual friendship from Hanako Tone, a boy she met on the Hogwarts Express. She couldn't find herself befriending any of the other children, as they all found her hard to speak with. The girl that spoke to her at potions class probably found her strange, and she no longer saw the Ravenclaw around again. She felt that her failure to maintain an alliance with that girl was a straight insult to her father from the house of Ravenclaw, so she was determined to at least make friends with Hanako, despite his impish personality. Speaking of the Slytherin, he was currently standing next to her. He was dressed in his usual jacket - which Althea found pointless in this weather - staring down at her with his usual judgemental gaze. Althea found the boy a nice person, even though he might be a bit rude and sarcastic. He was the only one that didn't give up in talking to her five minutes into the conversation. Althea found it nice, to be with a friend instead of wandering alone with a book. She would love to do this again sometime.

Well, this felt entirely different compared to Percival. Althea’s invite was similar to Percivals. Although how much trouble they might get into between the two invites were different, Hanako felt somewhat of a familiar odd feeling in his chest.
With Percival, the feeling was calmer, no guilt in accepting his invitation. It felt like Hanako was just preserving whatever happiness he could have left before the inevitable doom of their relationship (whatever it was).
But there was certainly some guilt when he accepted Althea’s invite. It didn’t feel right. People would’ve laughed if they heard this. Hanako Tone feeling guilty for another human being? He was surprised as well. And it felt worse when he agreed with his usual smile.
Once they had arrived at the lake, they didn’t share much talk. It was a sort of comfortable silence. Hanako sneaked a glance once or twice of his companion, confident she was enjoying the moment more than he did. He closed his eyes and tried to drift off the best he could so the perceptive girl wouldn’t pick up his slight uneasiness.
Occ note: You can roll to see if Althea picks this facade up xD
He was sure of the guilt, he just didn’t know where it came from. One of the possibilities would be the uncomfortable foundation of their relationship. Surely, a relationship that came from a bet was not a good idea in the slightest. He was no friend expert, but even he knows there should be some sort of genuine, mutual agreement in a friendship.
And he had clearly stated he didn’t want it. Her persistence in befriending him was both admirable and irritating. He had nothing against Valeden. She was intriguing in her own ways and of course had her weaknesses like everyone else but that was precisely why he felt like he didn’t deserve her.
It was also scary how she was willing to risk her own self to befriend someone like him. A fraud, a bully, not a lot of good qualities a human should have. He had warned her numerous times and although she may put up with his annoying personality, how long until she found out how bad he really is? How long until he had to keep pretending everything was okay? How long until he really hurts her?
He took a deep breath.
“ Little Bird..” he muttered. His eyes lazily opened but he didn’t take his eyes off the lake. From the tone he used, it would be obvious he wasn’t joking around. For once, he was being utterly and frighteningly serious. He wished to just call her by that nickname for hers for the last time.
“ I’m done with this. I’m tired. Tired of being friends with you. Talking to you. We should stop, whatever this was “.
It was an odd tone to hear from Hanako Tone. He was the fun guy. The chill guy who never had a single care in the world and held the present moment as a way for him to have fun at the expense of others.
But at the moment, he was just...there. There was no filter yet his emotions and facial reactions were as hidden as his true intentions.
It truly felt weird.

[font=Arial MT]"Little Bird.." Hanako muttered softly. Althea looked up with a hum, showing that she was listening. She felt rather uneasy when she heard the nickname. Usually, the boy wouldn't address her with anything at all. The tone that he used was also dead serious, and it was making her scared. Nevertheless, she stayed silent, waiting for him to continue. "I’m done with this. I’m tired. Tired of being friends with you. Talking to you. We should stop, whatever this was," Hanako finished, tone firm. Althea's eyes widened as she stared at the boy, feeling her chest tighten when she did not manage to find a sign that this was a joke. Sighing, she pushed herself to her feet. To be honest, she knew that this friendship would end up in shambles, be it due to her awkward behaviour or Hanako's plain refusal to continue. She has been thinking for a while now, and she regrets using a bet like this, to force someone into a frienship they clearly don't want. "I was wondering when you were going to say that," Althea started softly, "Guess it's today." She looked away from Hanako and faced the lake once again. Knowing the boy, if she acted angry, she was going to be flung into the cold waters of the lake. So, she was thankful that her mother stamped out any signs of a rash personality. "You may find me annoying," Althea admitted with a smile, "But I had fun. You are a nice guy, Tone."

Hanako honey brown eyes widened at her response, for a moment he was in shook. Did he hear that right? Nice? The perplexed look on his face slowly but surely morphed into something more of like irritation. He kept a grin on his face, but his narrowed eyes told Althea that he wasn’t happy.
“ N i c e ?” He coldly repeated, pushing himself back on his head as well. He stood, eye to eye with Althea, who was clearly messed up in the head. “ Are you seriously that daft, Valeden? Right after I said that, did you misinterpreted my words? Was the wind too loud? Do I have to repeat myself? Or must I tell you the actual definition of the word: nice? Or would that be a waste because frankly-”
He took a step closer to Valeden, his supposedly warm eyes completely cold, devoid of their usual playfulness. “ I don’t know if you noticed, but I’m far from that wretched description.”
How in heavens did she ever come up with that conclusion? It baffled him that such a perceptive kid could be so stupid. He didn’t want to stereotype a house but was being in the Hufflepuff house making her dumber? In a sense that, despite the horrid reality she still tried to cling on the more positive hallucination?
Because there was no way a smart kid would listen to that and think it’s nice. He made sure of that.
“ You know what’s really annoying, Valeden?” He pointed a finger to her. “ That you’re completely clueless to what’s going on. Must I spell it out for you? Or do you still think I’m n i c e? “
He really wished she wouldn’t make him spell it out. It felt odd that he had to be the one to tell her she had nothing to do with the end of this relationship.

[font=Arial MT]"Nice?" Hanako coldly repeated, pushing himself back on his head as well. Althea , bracing herself for absolute terror. She ignored the shiver that ran down her spine when she locked eyes with the Slytherin. Sure enough, the hurricane came crashing towards her. "Are you seriously that daft, Valeden? Right after I said that, did you misinterpreted my words? Was the wind too loud? Do I have to repeat myself? Or must I tell you the actual definition of the word: nice? Or would that be a waste because frankly-" Hanako took a step closer to her, Althea taking a step back in response, "I don’t know if you noticed, but I’m far from that wretched description." She let the other glare daggers at her, honey brown orbs which were no longer soft with playfulness. She held her irritation and exhuastion from listening to his rant as she stared into those eyes, raising her hands in mock surrender. Honestly, Althea would have been angry at this point if she did not understand what Hanako is getting at. She heard all about his pranks. From pranking her fellow house members to plainly messing with anyone he dislikes, she knows that the word 'nice' was definitely not a word to describe this Slytherin boy. And yet, she somehow couldn't bring herself to despise this impish boy. Perhaps she could finally develop that hatred today. "You know what’s really annoying, Valeden?" Hanako pointed a finger to Althea, "That you’re completely clueless to what’s going on. Must I spell it out for you? Or do you still think I’m nice?" Althea laughed at his last sentence, locking eyes with the other. Althea smiled as she tilted her head, observing the boy, before grabbing the boy by the shoulders and pinning the boy against a tree nearby. She ignored the feeling of the sharp edges of the tree bark scraping at her fingertips, staring hard at Hanako. "I wanted to end this nicely, Tone," Althea muttered, "But I need to make this clear..." She loosened her grip on the boy. "No, Tone. The wind wasn't howling and disturbing your rant. I heard you, 'wretched kid', and I know that you are not the nicest. I know that you are a prankster, and that I am no match for a smart alec like you," Althea hissed, "I said you were nice because you are one of the only students here that doesn't think I am a wannabe-ravenclaw that has a book constantly stuck to her hand. I don't need you to be kind and good-natured to be 'nice' in my books." Althea paused and took a moment to breathe, not believing she just actually said such things. Letting go of Hanako, she averted her eyes from the boy and turned around. Althea felt a few tears slip and stain her cheek, and cursed herself for crying over something as dumb as this. "It was true that I had fun, Tone. It's your choice to believe or not to believe my words."

Alright, he had expected a comeback from Valeden. It was the whole thing that kept their conversations going since day one in the Hogwarts Express. But he had to admit, he severely underestimated what she could do.
Hanako was always a bit on the frail side, so it wasn’t a big surprise that she managed to pin him to a tree as if he weighed the same as paper. Nevertheless, it still shocked him. Getting pinned to a tree and having someones face way too close wasn’t exactly a normal occurrence in his life.
He was more used to getting chased than suddenly checkmated like this. The feeling of being powerless was disturbing him. Nevertheless, he listened intently to Valeden’s response with the blankest look he could muster while simultaneously trying to look at her in the eye.
Her jade eyes boring into him with such intensity made him eager to look away. As much of a carefree guy he is, even he could feel uncomfortable. But he supposed that was a fair trade considering the words he jeered at her earlier.
Finally, he narrowed in eyes in confusion as she finally allowed him space to breathe. Under the nice weather, Hanako saw her turn around away from him. Her words definitely wasn’t what he was expecting. To him, the fact that she even managed to let out such things proved that this was never going to work out.
They were matches just waiting to be burned out. An inevitable ending.
How much Althea knew so little of him was another strike to this friendship. He didn’t understand why she was so desperate to stay by him and she didn’t understand his overwhelming fear of being attached to.
He frowned, one hand about to touch Althea’s shoulder. Perhaps, to explain himself? What could he explain? Why did he want to explain? What was this awful feeling in his chest? He just wanted her to leave for her own good. Just as his hand was about to touch her shoulder, Althea said something that made him visibly flinch.
"It was true that I had fun, Tone. It's your choice to believe or not to believe my words."
He stopped, realizing what he was about to do. That’s right, he wasn’t supposed to be this affected by a situation like this. Who cares if the little bird starts crying or lost all her friends or lacks self-confidence. It had nothing to do with him. It shouldn’t!
But it somehow left him with an awful feeling if he leaves her like this. He needed her to hate him. Not think he was fun. He had to find some sort of way to outweigh her good memories with him with bad ones. Maybe after that, he’ll feel better. Yes, he definitely will.
He came here with one rule, and that was to not get attached. It was a duty, he told himself as he placed both his hands on her shoulder.
Containing all the strength he could muster, he pushed.
With an object as heavy as Althea dropping in the great lake, a loud splash was made. Some of the water droplets from her fall made onto his own figure, but he barely paid mind to them. All his attention was directed upon Althea Valeden, who he had just pushed in the great lake for his duty and safety. What about pushing everyone away made him feel better? He cursed at the thought tried to forget it ever came.
“ I hope you’ll have fun swimming as well, then. “ It felt like an empty statement. He seemed to have done his best to close off any emotions at the moment that one could not tell if what he said was for Althea, or for himself.
Without a look back, he turned away and walked away. A walk that turned into a speed walk. A speed walk that turned into a run.
He couldn’t breathe. He needed to getaway. He needed to forget. Everything.

Althea didn't dare turn back after saying that. She expected that Hanako would be mad, irritated, and most likely to punch her anytime soon. She did managed to muster up the courage to peer over her shoulder for a moment, and saw Hanako with a sour expression.
Althea looked back quickly, knowing that she was going to be physically punched over something within the next five minutes. Hanako was no gentle fairy, and he had one of the most confusing mindsets she has ever seen in a person. She was actually hoping for a punch or a kick. Maybe it would boil up some serious bloody hatred for Hanako in her mind.
They stood awkwardly like that for a few seconds, and Althea was debating whether to bolt before it was too late. Sadly, it was already too late. Hanako suddenly placed both of his hands on her shoulders, and she flinced. "Tone, get your sweaty hands-" Althea was cut off by an abrupt shove from behind. Her eyes widened, arms shifting to shield her face on instinct. She thanked whatever gods that were up there that she did so, because the next thing she knew, she crashed into the freezing waters of the Great Lake.
Althea winced, the cold jabbing at her skin like glass. Thankfully, her arms broke her fall quite well, so she didn't have a face full of algae and dirt. She quickly sat up and turned around, not bothering to stand up.
"I hope you’ll have fun swimming as well, then," Hanako said, tone cold. Then, he walked away. His speed increased as he went, suggesting that he might still have some dignity in him. Althea chuckled, remembering when she first chucked a book at him and how he ran away. Ah, good times, they were.
"It seems like the weather is going to be sunshine with a bit of hurricane," Althea muttered, wiping the remaining tears and getting out of the lake. She was going to make Hanako scream the next time she comes around with a book and a 'yuran'.
