Too Many
Dear Abuela,
Hello, grandmother! I know you're probably upset because of the owl, but I couldn't help but send you a letter! I haven't gotten to asking Keylon about how to get it through muggle mail yet but I'll figure it out soon enough. I'm sorry about the fright!
Anyway, school is okay. Yes, I made a lot of friends and yes I'm doing well in my classes. It's actually not that different than school back home, the subjects are just way different, but you already know that. If only you could witness me brew potions and cast spells like a real witch, it's really amazing! I hope that you're proud of me because I'm trying really hard not to break down and start crying because I frickin think everyone is against me here get to stressed out, but it's sort of difficult. But luckily I have the right variety of friends.
Of course I have to mention Alexa Makenzie. She's a really sweet girl from Hufflepuff with the brightest and prettiest red head, and her eyes are also really pretty! I think she's the most friendly person I've ever met, even though sometimes I think she's a bit weary of me. I think that I come off as...stuck up, I guess to some people, I'm not sure. The only person to really treat me nasty is this one Slytherin but that's only because he's often in a bad mood, I think.
He's my other friend, Wyatt Starkey. He's actually not that bad but I truly feel bad for him. Grandmother, if you could see him I think you would never let him out of your sight! He has all of these terrible scars all over his face and he's always rolling his eyes at me, even when I was just trying to be nice to him. But that doesn't stop me from being any less kind because I think he especially deserves a good friend...but don't tell him that because I think he'll get really mad at me.
There's also these two girls who I met on the train, Cassandra Ironwoods and Meredith Ready. I actually think Meredith is quite funny, but I still kind of don't like her, she's just says anything and sometimes what she says really gets on my nerves, especially how she talks about muggles and Muggle-Borns. That's what they call people like me who's parents are magic, and you do NOT want to hear the forbidden word they use for that, or you'd send me a Howler—it's this letter that angry people send each other that ACTUALLY screams, with it's papery lips. Maybe I shouldn't have told you that, even though I don't know how you'd get your hands on one, but it's equally terrifying and amazing!
I've met other people too but I usually only wave or at them or talk a little in class, nothing extreme, I guess. The whole thing is just a little too much, in my opinion. I went from regular school with boring classes where nothing much was expected from anyone because we were only ten or eleven to this school, this castle, where they expect you to learn a bunch of spells, potions, history, and ways to fly a broom all in one year! Isn't that crazy? And no, I haven't really flown a broom much. I don't want anyone to learn about my fear of heights here, especially since Quidditch, this broom flying sport here, is practically the biggest event!
You probably guessed from the pin I sent you that I'm in Gryffindor, House of the Lions! I feel really great here, even though I was a little sad because I wanted to get in the same house as Alexa. But she says that she really likes her house and I really like mine! Everyone here is always playing pranks and acting silly, just getting into trouble with their tomfoolery in general. Sometimes I do, too, I have to admit, but I'm doing more good than bad, I promise! It's just a lot to take in here because after all we live in this huge castle with tons of students and professors, and something's always happening. I just can't wait for the next school year already, and this one only just started!
Well, I hope you're doing very well there with your nurse and such. I wish that I could help you with magic but I haven't really learned much about healing spells or potions yet. Even though they said we can't do magic outside of school, I don't care! I want you to feel better and I'll do everything I can to make that happen! Sólo nos tenemos el uno al otro, y el uno al otro sólo tenemos.
Love,
C. C. McGlinchy

Sent Letter | Mentions @Wyatt Starkey
Wyatt,
I have a lot of things to say in my head but I can't really get it out in words, but that might be a blessing in disguise because my handwriting is terrible, ha ha. Half of it is about how unbearable you can be sometimes, but the other half is about how much I really appreciate you.
You are really...something, I guess. You are a good friend, too, even if we often have our arguments. But my abuela—my grandmother —says that best of friends usually start of badly. Something about how their souls are connected or something, but I don't know about all of THAT.
I'm going to start of with something less sappy because you'll probably throw this letter away or better yet, burn in a fireplace if I say something to silly. So I'm going to tell you about someone very special to me: my grandmother.
Her name is Rubi Soledad Camillà Rasgado and she's been taking care of me for a very long time, all by herself, with some help from my uncle—remember Keylon, my cousin in Slytherin? Yeah, his father—and I really appreciate her. I haven't told you but...no, I'll tell you in person, but she means everything to me and I think that she's dying.
It started about a year ago, where she fell down in the kitchen and broke a glass. I found her with cuts and bruises all over her arms and was horrified. At first I just felt bad and thought it was just because she was getting old but... she's grown weaker and weaker and no one's sure what's wrong. They just told her to get some rest and stay home. Now we have a nurse there who takes care of the house and my grandmother...but I fear the worse.
I don't think she's going to get better.
But my cousin warned me to keep quiet and act like everything was alright or he'd hurt me. I don't think he would but he seems to get more irritable everyday and I'm scared...but more for my grandmother.
I don't know if she'll be here in my second or third year, and I'm really worried. (Excuse the tear stains, I tried to cry somewhere else but I'm writing this secretly in a wardrobe so no one can see me blubbering).
Well, I just wanted to write you this letter so you know that you're not the only person who has gone through tough things and trying to leave it in the past, trying to focus on now and forget about the hurt for the moment. There's other things I want to tell you but in case this gets in the wrong hands I'll leave it to tell you in person, if you will listen, I guess.
You inspire me a lot, you know, even it doesn't seem like it. You make me want to always press forward even when bad things hit me, because believe it or not, I often want to give up.
My Uncle once said: "He that cannot endure the bad will not live to see the good."
Thanks,
C.M.
