_ | A brief spell of surprise overcame her when the charm hit the axe, causing it to freeze and thus allowing her teammates to cross to this side of the field. The pat that the Quidditch captain gave her caused a little something unprecedented to bloom within her. Something unfamiliarly warm, strangely uplifting. Pride? Camaraderie? The fact that the one to address her success was her respected senior only served to exacerbate it. As they proceeded along the path towards what was presumably the end of the labyrinth, a sinister sense of impending doom and dread descended to replace that which was warm and fuzzy moments ago. The hedges that lined the overly polished path were trimmed in a shape so flawless that it seemed unnatural, as if somebody had charmed them all to be aligned in a straight line. It was too neat, so neat that it appeared menacing, ominous. A facade of perfection on the verge of cracking, just like the rest of this twisted labyrinth and the Spring Ball. And then she saw it โ the twist that the trimmed hedges and the precariously layed path had been leading them to. Before them manifested a gargantuan gateway lined with card soldiers, a study-looking steel gate ascending from the ground as they approached. At first glance, the soldiers seemed chillingly horrifying, considering the somewhat distorted spears that they yielded; however, upon closer inspection, Ebony found that they were simply cards; an illusion of danger, just like the axe that they had passed. The gate was steadily secure, evidently put in place to prevent them from nearing the castle beyond โ the ostensible "Red Queen" โ and completing the labyrinth. The creators of the labyrinth clearly did not desire for anybody to get through. Or did they? Lying at the foot of the gate were some rocks that were clearly conveniently and deliberately placed, as if they just so happened to be there. It certainly was not obvious that they were intended to utilise them. Aly seemed to have other ideas, pulling out her wand and casting confringo. "I shall give the rocks a go, I suppose," Ebony shrugged; using physical force was always more trusty. Surely there was no chance of the rock backfiring on her like a wand. Besides, it was time to make use of all that bat swinging she had done during her years of Quidditch practice โ outside of Quidditch. Heading to the base of the gate, she lugged the biggest, most menacing-appearing stone and hoisted it over her head, launching it at the gate with all her might in the hopes that it would โ combined with Aly's confringo โ bring the gate back down into the ground, where it was meant to be. |

OOC INFORMATION
After approaching the door the team wasted no time knowing that to do. First, Aly swiftly pulled out her wand and readied it right away. She knew she had to blast the door and she knew that in order to do that she was going to cast the blasting charm on it. She very quickly and efficiently cast that spell, and she was very successful! The spell blasted out of her wand with great success and one of the hearts very promptly disappeared from the top of the door. This means they have four more hearts to blast through before they break through.
Ebony chose to throw a rock instead. So rather than getting her wand out and casting the blasting charm or some other spell to try and break the door, she threw the biggest rock that she could find next to the door. Perhaps that wasn't the move though because even though the rock was definitely big enough and would have caused damage to the door if it hit, it was most likely too heavy for Ebony. When she threw the rock it spared through the air but stopped just short of the door making it so that it didn't actually hit and no hearts went down.
This means that they still have 4/5 hearts to somehow get through to pass this obstacle.

The seventh-year's Blasting Charm was well-cast, and Aly felt a rush of pride seep through her; it was hard to believe, now, that she had once been a second-year who could hardly get a spark out of her aspen wand. Her arc of fiery orange light slammed into the metal gate with a loud explosion, and one of the five hearts glowing above it flickered and died. Aly hrmmed a small noise of disappointment, having hoped that such a powerful curse would deal some decent damage, not just one-fifth. "Either it's just we need to hit it five times, or smaller spells might do less damage," she muttered to the rest of her group, watching as Ebony's thrown rock didn't quite make it there. For such a slender girl, her Beater had significant and surprising strength even tossing the huge stone that far; Aly herself would never have been able to accomplish such a feat. As such, she stuck to her wand, readying it to cast again.
"Let's try to hit it with a big assault, at least four of us at once," she said over her shoulder to her groupmates. "Rocks or spells, whatever you think might work. I'll do a good Reductor Curse, and if that doesn't work, I can just throw several Blasting Curses at it - but remember, we're timed on this. _ | She watched in dismay as the rock she had thrown fell to the ground before it hit the gate. She would have thought she would be strong enough to throw it further, given they weren't situated particularly far from the gate, but apparently she had overestimated her capabilities. There was still much training to undergo, she supposed. Ronnie's comments were somewhat encouraging, and she gave a small appreciative nod in the boy's direction. Aly's blasting charm, on the other hand, was incredibly effective; one of the hearts flickered and then disappeared, leaving four hearts remaining on the door. Ebony had failed to notice those hearts upon their arrival, and it became quite evident now that depleting those hearts was the key to opening โ or causing the collaspe of โ the gate. She wondered if any offensive spell could be cast, or if the spells had to be particularly powerful. Surely, more advanced spells would cause more damage? Seeing as Aly's well-cast blasting charm managed only to deplete one heart, she doubted that was the case. The seventh-year gave a rather inspiring speech lined with impressively logical thinking; one of the Ravenclaw Quidditch captain's many talents was her ability to motivate. Whether it was before a big game or in instances such as these, she never failed to encourage. Feeling quite thoroughly motivated now, Ebony decided to give her wand a go. Perhaps as a pure-blood witch, the wand was indeed more trusty than physical exertion. Drawing it from its holster, she directed a Homing Spell at the gate. "Sequi Me!" |

OOC INFORMATION
The group must have learned from their mistakes from previous failed throws and spell castings because they were able to have a clean sweep of successful spells this time around.
First up was Aly with her successful cast of the Reductor Curse on the gate. She must have been particularly motivated because the spell cast perfectly and hit the gate perfectly in the middle. A heart disappeared and the door almost seemed to silently cheer the team on.
Next up is Verona who must have seen the previous successful cast from Aly, because they had the same success she had. The Flipendo spell hit just shy of the middle of the door and another heart disappeared from on top of the gate.
Uniquely enough, Ebony was feeling brave enough to try the Homing spell. She must know her stuff though, because it ALSO successfully hits the gate and causes one more heart to disappear from the top of the gate. This group was killing it, whether they were feeding off each others successes, getting lucky with their casting, and a combination of the two previous options they needed to keep it up.
The gate now has 1/5 hearts left. Good luck team!

Four hearts down and just one more to go. Aly breathed a sigh of relief at her team stepping up to help, watching as her perfect Reductor Curse - studying for her Charms N.E.W.T. had clearly come in handy - sailed directly into the gate's centre. Similarly, the other two elder years in her group, Ebony and the boy from Castelobruxo, cast excellent curses themselves and all had decent aim, too. The seventh-year Ravenclaw nodded proudly to them, especially to Ebony, who had been her Quidditch teammate and friend for years at this point. "Well done," she said with a grin before turning to the younger two. "Come on, you two! Don't be afraid to cast something, or throw something, too. I'm sure your wands would create lovely spells, and we've got to get through here!"

_ | A brief shadow of surprise was cast upon her; though her face remained unmoving, her eyes widened and she had to resist the urge to leave her mouth agape. She had never expected her Homing Spell to be successfully cast, and much less hit the gate. A more believable scenario would be failure to conjure the homing projectile, for her spell-casting was rather mediocre for a fifth year. She knew it would be wise to polish up on those skills before the OWLs, but she had never been the best at offensive spells. Besides, the Homing Spell was still rather foreign; she had only just picked it up this year. Simultaneously, Aly's Reductor Curse and Ronnie's Knockback Jinx also caused two other hearts to wither away from the gate. Aly had particularly stellar aim, her spell having struck the very center of the gate; Ebony did not expect any less from the Quidditch captain, who was โ in the younger girl's eyes โ a role model who excelled, someone whom all aspired to become. Four hearts were now down. One remained, almost glinting under the light in seeming encouragement. They had brought themselves ever so close to bringing down the gate, and perhaps with it, bringing themselves out of the labyrinth. A smile graced her visage for an unassuming moment, and in a rare, unprecedented display of initiative, she reached out to the two older students for a high five. It seemed that Aly was feeling bold, for she had attempted to cast the Vanishing Spell? She... appeared to want to vanish the gate. Well. That was an interesting approach. The fifth year was unsure of whether the gate would simply evanesce into non-being, given the nature of the task at hand, but she commended her senior for trying anyway. Ebony was not quite as bold, nor was she as interesting. And so, she decided to give the rock another chance. Hefting the stone that had once been thrown โ albeit not very successfully โ once more with her arms, she threw. |

Aly was up first with her decision to try casting the vanishing spell. She readied herself and cast it successfully! Her stance, incantation, and even her wand movement was on point. She definitely did something right when she was casting. Go Aly!
With this ending blow from Aly, the once-steady and strong portcullis quivered as if it were a dried leaf in a whirlwind. With one final grunt of steel bending, it collapsed in a heap of dust backwards, creating an entrance into the palace at last!
โNo, NOOOO! Curse you all, Iโll be back!โ
A shrill voice hollered out as it faded into the distant, leaving sweet bird song and the relieved chitters of woodland creatures in its wake.
Upon entry, past the gatehouse, players would be greeted by a ray of gentle, welcoming light from the sun, enveloping their entire surroundings. Upon opening their eyes, they would find themselves in the grand interior of a throne room. Walking deeper into the room, players would see a now-vacant golden throne sitting atop the elevated platform. Then, sizzlingโ SQUEAK! Like a balloon animal at a party, the throne squeaked and squirmed before splitting itself into five thrones!
A giant painted banner decorated with each card suit rolled down from the ceiling, displaying itself behind the throne. On it written in bold red letters states: 'CONGRATULATIONS! Vermillion rose petals rained from above. Congratulations, players!
