Conversing Over Creases
Calling @Adonis ThornDate: May 1, 2020
Generally speaking, the Great Hall was a destination reserved only for a brief period of time in Evleynn's over-packed schedule: meals. Even then, the red head tended to rush through them, consuming only enough to satiate her hunger and feed her mind before darting off to one of any number of obligations that occupied her attentions. Of late, however, it seemed to be that she was seeing ever more of this illustrious space. Whether it be for crafting tokens of appreciation, decorating confectioneries, or participating in various arts and crafts, it was an obvious location for any larger scale errand. And true to her nature as an over-achiever and loyal to her House, Evelynn sought out every chance she could get to participate in these little tasks. Today was no different.
The moment the time had arrived to congregate in the massive hall, the Gryffindor had found herself there. Waiting. Standing, not so patiently off to one side, checking her watch now and then and counting as the minutes ticked by when preparations were complete and they were free to enter. When finally that moment arrived, she kicked off from the cool stone wall against which she had claimed her perch and entered. Really, what struck her first was just how similar the scene was to the last errand in which she had participated. Only, in place of tiers of cupcakes and other sweets, there were stacks of various coloured paper. And instead of piping bags and various decorations, there were collections drawing implements. There were even a few House Elves scurrying around with last minute tidying and arranging, just like there had been last time.
Admittedly, these weren't exactly her favourite tasks in which to be involved — those of arts and crafts, that is. In a sense, they were sort of a waste of time. Hers, as far as she was concerned, would be of far better use being put towards study, or practice, or furthering her various extracurriculars. And if the staff and Prefects really required assistance, she felt far more fulfilled in putting effort into something that furthered a cause, or provided direct assistance to a professor, or even just improved the castle that they had all come to call home. Although...she did have to admit that once her mind had fallen deeply enough into the task, there was a certain sense of trainquility in the action of creation that could hardly be emulated elsewhere. And that, in and of itself, was healthy.
And so, she took an empty seat near to one of the supply stations, setting her bag down upon the floor next to her feet and plucking at her black school robes to arrange the hang of fabric tidily from her lap. Fingers reached to pin against a piece of paper and draw it near before plucking up what she could then see were instructions and drawing it up to eye level. What to make. What to make. That was the question, wasn't it? Naturally, the lion stuck out to her as an obvious choice, her being of the Prideful House and all. But it wasn't that majestic beast onto which her eyes came to rest. Instead, it was the dragon.
With a faint smile, her mind decided, she returned the notice from where she had retrieved it and reached for a sheet of bronze tinted paper. A strange choice, perhaps. She supposed most would go for bright colours, or those that were pleasing to the eye. Not one that was effectively brown. But Evelynn had her reason. Reasons, actually. She had no intention of keeping this particular model — once it was finished — for herself. Care would have to be taken, however, to get it just right. Until now, it had been only letters that she had sent. Next time, while it would still be parchment, it would take a different form. She bent over slightly, brows pinching as she attempted to follow the guidelines to exact specifications.
It was surprisingly more difficult than she might have expected. This wasn't her first time folding an origami shape, but she was used to using thin printing paper. What she had grabbed for this, however, was quite a bit thicker, and seemed — as she quickly came to realize after botching the first couple folds — to have a bit of a mind of its own and require a certain amount of coaxing to get it to crease exactly where you wanted it to instead of buckling prematurely. When the paper had failed her for a third time, and this time so badly that the pleat would be visible in an obviously wrong location in the finished product, Evelynn sucked in a sharp intake of air to click against the roof of her mouth.
"Well, I suppose I've gone and wasted this one," she lamented quietly to herself, lips pursing as she set the paper aside. "Perhaps..." She never did quite finish whatever thought had occurred to her. Not verbally, anyway. But a thought had occurred to her. Rising briefly, she went to retrieve a new piece of bronze parchment as well as a ruler — or at least something she could use as one — and a pencil, and then retreated to resume her place. Only, by the time she had returned, she found that she was no longer alone. A boy sat across the table from where she had been moments before. A boy that she vaguely recalled from class, but with whom she hadn't directly interacted before. "Ah, hello," she offered, resuming her seat as well as her task.

Conversing Over Creases
The Great Hall was a place that Adonis would visit rather frequently whenever he had the free time to. He was usually caught up in the antics of his dorm as of recently and getting into some sort of dumb conflict with everyone in the Severus Snape dorm but in the end it was all fun and games. Aside from the fact that sometimes it got rather heated and not everyone had the best of perspectives for each other, especially due to blood status. Wyatt seemed to be one who was rather quick to jump to conclusions as Adonis had experienced when he went off on Percival Gray for being pure-blood in which Adonis jumped to his defense. Only because Percival Gray being pure-blood had nothing to do with the matter at the time. Aside from that, Adonis would've been on Wyatt's side during the argument but he brought blood status and the things he had said offended him. Jack seemed to be quite the troublemaker and starter of troubles as was seen during the bathroom incident as he was the one who supplied them with the Extendable Ears to listen to Percival Rainwood prepare tallk to himself in the bathroom. There had been other instances but that was aside the point from now. Hanako and Percival Rainwood he didn't know much of. Percival seemed to be quite the brawn but without brains, so a brute to say the least for the fellow Slytherin boy. Everyon else he had yet to really ever interact with.
The boy waited patiently for the Great Hall to open alongside all the others who did outside of the gigantic doors that stood before them. Something about the Great Hall has always piqued his interest. He never knew what it was exactly, but there was just something peculiar about it that did. Perhaps it was the thousands of candles that floated above their heads and the enchanted ceiling that came with it, changing at times depending on the season. Or maybe even the magical paintings? No. Adonis wasn’t entirely sure but it just did. Eventually and finally, they had opened the doors to the Great Hall, which in turn made the Slytherin boy naturally go ahead and enter with the rest of the students to join in on the task at hand.
Adonis was never really one to do tasks such as these but something had came over him that made him want to that day for whatever it may be. It could've been for house pride for all he knew. That's what he figured at least. Now was better than ever to get the jump on starting to do errands. It offered house points and money at times and that was a steal in his eyes. Who wouldn't want to make a simple little origami animal for the rewards they would get out of this? You would have to be lazy and very unmotivated not, or at least in his eyes you would. Adonis shrugged the thought aside and took note of all the house elves that he passed by. His family only had one house elf that served for them and they treated him very good as well. Never did they treat him poorly or abuse them.
Eventually, Adonis found himself a seat at one of the tables that had supplies on them, not really taking note of the others that were already seated there alongside him. He may have spared a few glances here and there to some but that was it. Once he was situated and his belongings were on the ground beside him, his nose wrinkled as he examined all the supplies. Arts & Crafts was never really his things. He was horrible at it and because of that, Adonis hated it very much so. But he had to remind himself off what he would get out of completing such a simple task. Although, the young Slytherin boy would very much rather be studying for Potions or Defense Against the Dark Arts right about now. It's all he ever seemed to do when he wasn't meeting new people or messing with his dorm mates during his downtime. A groan escaped his lips, followed by a heavy sigh when doing a double-take as his eyes fell upon them. This was not going to be fun!
Adonis grabbed a sheet of green paper, obviously for Slytherin, before getting to it and failing miserably to follow the instructions as his creation was nothing close to a mere snake. "Someone save me..." The boy said with a sigh and went to grab another piece of paper in which he failed to create the origami as was shown on the instructions once again. His frustration was then halted as the girl sitting across from him caught his attention. "Oh, well hello." The boy hadn't really expected a greeting from her or even anyone at all. He was grateful for it, nonetheless. "Having trouble with this too?" His hazel eyes that were dotted with tints of green had flickered slightly in the light when he moved his head to look up at her and meet with her own. They then looked back down at the paper in front of him and went back to trying to get the hang of it, starting from the beginning once again.

It seemed she wasn't the only one struggling with the precise folds required of the art of origami. At the prompting of the boy's question following what she wasn't quite sure was a surprised or pleasant greeting, grey eyes had flickered to take quick stock of his supplies. Although — despite feeling a momentary defensive bristle — she wouldn't have faulted him his observation that she had been required to fetch additional paper for additional attempts of her own, he had said 'too'. Which meant he was likewise finding this task to be a touch more than he could easily manage. The folded form of a green… something… that lay off to the side was evidence enough to support that notion.
"Mn…" Evelynn hummed thoughtfully as she considered an answer and situated herself more comfortably in her seat. "Perhaps a bit, yes," she elected to admit. "Well…" A wayward glance over to her abandoned first attempt carried with it no small amount of disdain regarding her inability. "I was trying to make a dragon… but I think it turned out looking more like a lopsided hippopotamus."
Her gaze lingered upon the sorry excuse for a fearsome creature before returning to the fresh sheet she had retrieved. This time, however, she approached the task with a touch more finesse and purpose. Ever so lightly, she drew the fold lines onto the page, taking her time to ensure they were properly lined up.
"What is it that you're making?" she inquired with a slight flick of storm-grey eyes up to spy the progress of her quiet counterpart after a few moments of silence had passed in their work. "And is it for yourself? Or someone else?"
She wasn't exactly sure why it was that she was choosing to engage in conversation. In a way, it was as though a compulsion had come over her. A need to interact. So many of her social encounters of late had been twisted into a negative light that left her with a bitter taste in her mouth and a renewed cynicism towards making any effort again in future. They boy across from her seemed normal, however. At least insofar as she could tell from the first few seconds of laying eyes on him. At the very least, there was no boiling water nearby, nor was she terribly concerned about paper cuts. Plus, he looked about at engrossed and determined to succeed with this silly art project as she felt.
"I'm Decipio, by the way," she deigned to offer when a lag in conversation next allowed her to do so. "Evelynn Decipio. First year Gryffindor," she elaborated, not that he wouldn't have at least been able to determine her house by the crest upon her school robes. In fact, now that she considered him — she had taken that moment to look up from her work to scrutinize his features properly for the first time — he looked familiar to her. Yes. She was quite certain of it. They shared classes.
