Ira was extremely satisfied with the outcome.
"Should I continue messing with him? Maybe a little bit wont hurt"

"Yea Alex it happens to the best of us. You will learn soon enough." she said patting his shoulder reassuringly. She liked treating him like a kid, especially when he was troubled like this. If the poor boy ends up preserving his sanity, it will be a miracle.

"Lying? Alex when did I ever lie to you?" as for the record, a lot of times. She had hardly done her homeworks on time, thanks to Alex who would discuss or remind her of them that she would realise how far behind she was. Although she would say she had completed them ages ago, she would pull an all nighter to finish them off.
"Nah Alex. This is not done. You dont believe me? Fine! Go look for the cat in the grounds. You will find an orange tabby cat for sure. Its a bit wild so be careful. You will realise my talent only then."
If you are wondering, how can a tabby cat be wild? As per Ira's encyclopedia of nonsense, yes such tabby cats exist. They are full fledged imaginary beings who help Ira in her comical conspiracies. By now she had completely forgotten about her Transfiguration homework which was now soaked in black ink and remained abandoned on the table.

"Will he buy this?" she thought to herself as she knew that though Alex is way simpler than anybody and almost always listens to her nonsense with full attention, he is intelligent enough to segregate between the imaginary and the reality. She was no match for him in academics and apparently her being a prodigy in Transfiguration is straight fantasy. So the question remains, will he buy this?

The Great Hall is filled with chatter from students who were either studying for the upcoming exams or simply gossiping around. Alex's eyes wander around, thinking. 'What did I lack? Where did it go wrong the other day?' He even had abandoned his book on the table, looking at whoever's poor soul with his intense gaze. What would he do now?

"I'm gonna find out myself." Alex says calmly as his earlier accents had slowly died down. He slowly smooths the edge of his collar with his thumb and index finger. His green and silver stripes are neatly tied, as expected of him. Though that didn't entirely matter now, as he couldn't put into words what he's feeling at the moment.

Angry? Confused? Scared? Of what exactly?

Then Ira talks again, "..Go look for the cat in the grounds. You will find an orange tabby cat for sure. Its a bit wild so be careful -" that's when Alex catches up. He slowly turns towards Ira with his usual unreadable face, blue eyes already staring at his best friend. The only one he usually hangs around with for now.

"Ah," he mutters to himself before adding, "Wild and Tabby cat in one sentence? Nice one." His eyes narrow before a soft sighs escape his lips. "I feel like a bleeding eejit, Ira. Do that again and I'll hex your broomstick, ye hear me?" Alex almost scoffs as he says that. He knows how much Ira loves Quidditch and decided to tease her a little.

"Dang it!" she thought as her white lies were caught on by Alex.

"I-I-" she hesitated for a second, "Heh! You dont know all the feline species, do you? Its a rare one." she tried one last bait to lure Alex.

"Please buy it. Please buy it. Please buy it" she chanted in head.

"What did you just say?!" she exclaimed in awe as to someone who was a master at doing silly pranks and usually keeping hexes and jinxes in her pockets was getting threatened by a mere 12 year old boy.
"Why dont you try it then? Alex Hughes Kavanagh, you know you don't stand a chance before me in pranks. Try and touch my broom, I will show you what this Ira can do!"

She said getting up from her seat, trying to intimidate Alex. She wasn't actually angry it was just her nature. She was pissed though. Ira loves her broom like her pet, she would never let it have a scratch. Alex threatening to get it hexed really pissed her off. After all she considers herself the boss of such mischievous acts and even these threats belong to her alone.

"Alex say that again and you will-" she stopped midway realising the wet feeling under the palm of her hands and as she looked down at her soaked parchment paper she completely lost it.
"NO!! MY- MY HOMEWORK!!!"

Alex mentally shakes his head at her antics. It's part of her nature; he had totally grown fond of and so does she, with him. With all the pranks she pulls on him, he falls for it most of the times it's almost unbelievable. It'd an odd contrast to who he usually is. The last time he's most comfortable with someone is with him.

The question makes him narrow his eyes. "Try me. If you've said Bengal it might've been more believable." Alex hums before he pours himself some pumpkin juice in his cup and takes a small sip.

Finally, she's the one taking the bait now.

"Scary. I'm shivering in my Oxford." He teases, tone more monotonous than before. It's hilarious how hard it is to make him scared but it's as easy as plucking a plum from its tree when someone, so bravely, tries to insult his intelligence. "Come on, I'll make your broom dance for your sake. Nothing serious." Alex says, shrugging his shoulder as if he's just reporting the poor weather.

Alex watches with the slight glint of amusement in his eyes when Ira tries to intimidate him by towering over him. "What are you doin-" he trails off before he gazes down on the soaked parchment. "Well. Better not be DADA. I can't imagine you have to redo the whole thing." With a soft sigh, he rose up from the long bench before trying to clear the mess. "It's not that bad, I suppose." Alex tries to reassure, glancing at Ira's poor parchment.

"Aww man you are no fun! Guess I cant see your troubled face while you frantically look for a non existent cat." Ira said imagining Alex again and finally giving up her hopes for a better comeback. If it were someone else probably she could've easily confronted them but its THIS special Slytherin, this guy knows almost all of her shenanigans. In fact her brother would be taking notes from him right now, not even he has understood his sister's tactics in all of his 8 years.

"Its not DADA, fortunately. If it were, my soul would've left my body by now. Plus I haven't even written anything. So its fine." she said calming down, "Its the pending homework for Transfiguration, eh...I dont care about it anyways." she shrugged it off glancing at the glass of pumpkin juice held by Alex. She casually slid an empty glass for him to fill up. She wanted one too but didnt bother to pour for herself.

They have this unspoken bond. Ira could hardly care to explain what she meant by any of her gestures and didnt need Alex to explicitly discuss what he meant either, they have become telepathic at this point.

"By the way Mr. Stone Face, you said that you have already submitted your homework, right? So...could you....please......give me the answers? Hehehe" she asked cheekily, pretending to help Alex clean up while apparently he was the one doing most of the cleaning, she just kept rubbing the ink at a corner which probably has now stained the table."Oh no no dont get it wrong! I am not copying yours, I... just wanna discuss the answers... thats all!" she said, now smiling like a fool to get him to 'help' her.

Patience is an expensive virtue that not all human beings get to possess. Alex is one of the luckiest and god decided that his greatest test is his close friend, Ira Ray. Good grace, this girl could become a jester from how unhilariously hilarious her jokes usually are. Most people probably wonder how Alex the serpent could tolerate Ira the lioness. They work wonderfully in their own way.

"You haven't written a thing? Merlin." Alex blinks at Ira's carefree statement. As far as he's concerned, the said pending homework will soon be over tomorrow. And she hasn't written a bloody thing.

"By the way Mr. Stone Face, you said that you have already submitted your homework, right?" The second Alex hears the question, he quickly understood what Ira hoped for. For the first time, he didn't mind whenever Ira needed to copy his work and didn't give much thought about it until some other people started to come to him for some 'work advice'.

Now he quite understands.

He gazes down, meeting Ira's eyes as if he's done thinking. "Tell you what," He pauses, "I'll be your tutor as of now. You don't have to copy my work anymore. It's too bloody easy, don't you think? Come on. think of it like a Quidditch match. You gotta fight for it in order to succeed." He says calmly, a light contrast to his unwavering gaze.

It's a pity that Alex has learned Ira's ways of thinking. Just when she thought of getting him to give her the answers for the homework, he decided to TUTOR her, the Ira Ray who couldn't even be tamed by her very own mother!

"Ughh...Seriously Alex? You dare compare the lame homeworks with something as divine as Quidditch?", she said with a disgusted look, "And don't make me laugh! You are going to tutor me? Are you sure you are ready to handle that?" she said as a slight smile curled at the corner of her mouth.

Her mother who tried to bestow some wisdom to her tried using baits, punishments and even traps to make her study. She just wouldn't listen. Ira would sneak out of her house when she realised her mother's plans or hide behind her grandfather's study desk when her mom would look for her. She would make her brother do the basic questions her mom gave her as a homework when poor Arush who is always happy to readily help his big sister and learn new stuff didn't realise her tactics and fall for them every time.

If Alex gets Ira to actually study it will definitely be a win of the century. She is as stubborn as a rock when it comes to people instructing her to do something.

"Well give it a try then, I am sure we are both gonna have some fun." she said grinning at him, mischief beaming in her eyes. She is unafraid of failing a class but not failing at a challenge, although this wasn't something serious, she did see this as another way to annoy her best friend.

"To keep you motivated, Ira Ray." Alex says, unamused.

He understands that it must be difficult to tutor this damn girl; even keeping her focus in class is nearly impossible. Alex covers for her sometimes but when the books she sets up fall for the sixth time, he tries to wake her up though she seems to be in another dimension and let god decide her fate if the professors ever notice her.

It's been a while since he ever tutored someone his age, his friends or classmates. Most kids never even look his way after he taught them how to solve an equation, maybe a simple 'thank you' if they're kind enough to spare for him. Not that he ever minds. That's the problem, isn't it? He never seems to mind.

Anything.

"Fine. You're testing me, is it? I'm a good tutor, mind you." He says, almost offended. "Merlin, please don't tell me you're planning on something." Alex narrows his eyes skeptically as he sees the mischievous glint in her eyes. He knows her too well to get a scrape of whatever she's thinking about.

"We should start soon or your 'pending' homework will forever be pending." Alex sighs mostly to himself as he looks at her empty parchment.

Ira is not the type of girl to sit back and silently study, she will revolt and make her tutor regret ever start tutoring. She doesn't care who is tutoring her, she knows how to deal with each of them. For example, when her mother tried, Ira would make her little brother do her tasks as soon as her mother didnt look or hide at unique places each time her mom looked for her. For her father, she would ask random out of context questions and her father thinking she just wanted to know more about tge world would explain everything in details only realise at dinner time that she didnt care about the world at all, still he was too forgiving to get angry at her. He would in fact say its so cunning like she got the brains from her Ravenclaw papa.

Alex does not seem like he will lecture her out of context stuff and its too late to start hiding. But she is Ira Ray. She always has an idea. Remember the pranks up her sleeve 24/7 ? Yup, those unending stock she got from her home. She took out a cookie which apparently seemed normal but it had U-No Poo pill in it which causes constipation for the consumer. She laughed to herself while Alex was busy blabbering whatever nonsense he usually says aka show her the right path.

"Ughh...Fine Fine! I will listen to you Sir Stinky face." she said pretending to retire from her rebel while grinning to herself. "But first Allie, why dont we have a bit of snacks? I am sure you'll love some cookies! Here." she smiling, impatiently pushed forward the plate which had those apparently normal 'delicious' cookies made of 'love'. Will Alex fall for it?

It's rather bizarre for someone like Ira to offer him any scrape of food. No, please do not get him wrong. Alex truly doesn't mind accepting any food from trusted friends; perhaps not this one. Is it safe for him to assume that something's up with her?

Absolutely.

Though, him being thoughtful beforehand wasn't exactly a new thing. Ira has unpeeled a lot of pranks to him whether he realised it on the spot or, in rare occurance, a day after the prank was unleashed. Pulling pranks on him is as if a witch talking to a literal wall. They either get a response or.. otherwise.

"A cookie? Chocolate chips?" Alex asks, narrowing his eyes at the cookie as if trying to figure out a puzzle in front of him. For Salazar's sake. "How.. merciful of you. Is this a token of appreciation for my tutoring lesson?" He asks again, now looking at Ira with curious look in his eyes.

Alex taps his index finger against the long, wooden table; thinking. "Or perhaps, you're trying to distract me from tutoring you." He states, more to himself than Ira. He understands that he's accusing his best friend, but accusing means that she's innocent then if she's not; it's not an accuse, is it?

"I had.. enough snack for now. Thank you, you sly fox." He mutters, pushing the plate slowly to her side back.
