Trains, Frogs and the Irish

Avis grinned in relief at Aislin’s acceptance of her invitation into what was now their stolen compartment. She hadn’t realized how much she’d wanted the girl to join her. It seemed conversation of amphibians and Invigoration Draught had peaked the Ravenclaw’s interest. Besides, she’d never experienced someone being so incredibly invested in what she had to say, being the youngest and all. Avis severely hoped that perhaps as a second year, she’d finally feel much more mature and grown up.
After lugging her own massive dufflebug into the compartment and pointedly ignoring the previous owners’ things, the girl plopped down onto one of the cushioned benches and gave a callous glance out the window. Rugged Scottish hills flew by in the light of dusk outside and from what Avis could remember from her first year, they seemed to be getting close. A thrill of excitement shot through her. Sure, homework and grumpy professors were awaiting her, Aislin seemed to have noted, but so was a whole year of adventures and magic and friends, which only seemed to excite her more this time around.
The girl looked back at her new companion as she blurted out another question. Avis smiled wickedly. Now that was an inquiry she’d happily answer.
“Well, funny story that…” she began and dove into the tale as the two students hurtled headlong into an exciting new year.
