Continuation of the girls' last post at the Starborn Wonders Errand
Coded by Melissa Blake"Well, if it were fate, I am glad to have met you."
And it's impressive how 12 words can freeze a person. Cause for the next twelve seconds, I didn't feel my legs, arms, body and head. It was like my brain short-circuited. The words repeated on my head like they were the only ones I'd ever know.
She was glad to met me? To be my friend? My best friend?
Skylar, the girl who win a bet to her parents to get her hair blue, the one who was mad at not being a ravenclaw when I met her, the one who talked like there was no tomorrow? She liked my friendship?
My first ever friend. My best friend. And the feeling was possibly mutual.
I felt like someone had dropped a bucket of ice over me. I only reacted when she grabbed some hot cocoa and got into the tent. Nodding awkwardly, I grabbed a plate and placed some cookies on it. I was going to need them.
I had already read all about the Lyrid Meteor Shower. I knew how, when and where to see it. And, glancinc at my clock, I figured we had about twenty minutes before seeing them. Quietly, I slipped into the tent, suddently interested on the fabric, knowing very well that I had been inside this tent a thousand times before.
How to say it? 'What if the bad side of your family killed my mother?' definitely wasn't a good starter.
Finally, I managed to place all the words together in order. I replayed my therapist's words: If you want to talk and don't know how, place the words into your brain and wait for the perfect moment to say them.
I actually wanted to ask him was was he bald, but there was never a perfect moment for it.
Focus.
I cleared my throat, closing slightly the zip of the tent 'door'.
"I... uh..." Sigh. "W-what do you think? A-about... ev-every-"
No. Not again. A simple word felt like a whole psalm. My throat went dry suddently. It hadn't happened in years.
It happened for the last time when I got retired from my last school. When I showed magic for the first time and was so scared of the director that I couldn't make up a single word.
And suddently, I was a five-year old kid, surrounded by therapists and doctors and people who asked if I was mute. If I couldn't talk. If I was dumb. If I was rude.
Just because I couldn't say a stupid word.
I took a deep breath, just how my mom taught me. Slowly, the voices fell quiet. I still felt my heart pounding.
"What do you think about everything?" I finally asked, muttering, fidgeting with my sleeve, talking so fast I don't know if she actually heard it. What a shame.Stamina: 6 | Evasion: 6 | Strength: 4 | Wisdom: 7 | Arc Power: 6 | Accuracy: 6

"What do you think about everything?"
Skylar feels herself freeze mid-bite through a cookie. Everything. Everything was... a lot. She had actually been putting off thinking of it for the past week or so, but she has to face it eventually. Skylar finishes her cookie and plops onto her back, staring above at the stars. Her mind mulls over the events from the past few weeks.
Finally, after what seems like eternity, she speaks. "Well... I think the truth probably hit you harder than it did me, but it was still a shock. I mean, I just always thought my parents were like a normal wizarding couple, but turns out they have this deep family history and a bunch of past missions. Like, what do I even do with that information?"
Sitting up again, Skylar sighs and looks over at Mika. She shrugs helplessly at her friend, indicating that she is in the same boat. "All we can do is wait, really. We cannot speak to them till summer, and they refuse to send it through owls. It is just..."
Skylar flops back down on the tent floor again, the stars glittering above her. In the grand scheme of things, her world truly is small. And yet it still feels greater than what she can handle right now. "... I do not know what we can do, Mika. What action are we even supposed to take once we get the full picture? Fight my evil maternal family by ourselves?"
Skylar lets out a scorning laugh, her usual mirth and joy replaced by something else. Her mask of cheerfulness falls in front of her best friend, revealing how she truly is — confused, doubtful, and even a little angry.
"How the bloody hell am I even supposed to talk to my parents normally? They lied, Mika. They lied. How can I pretend everything is fine and peachy when it isn't? Apparently the evil side of my family has been stalking me since birth. I was isolated for my whole childhood in this magically gated estate, and I didn't even know why. No friends, no public school, no walk in the parks. Just me and this random marble statue in our garden that I named Jerry. And now I find out my life was in danger this whole time? Absurd!" Frustration creeps into Skylar's voice, her tone sharper than it usually is.

LOL M does NOT know how to comfort people properlyshe's such a weirdo I love her so much
Coded by Melissa BlakeOh, she was mad. Like, really mad.
Mad because her parents lied to her. Because they kept her hidden her whole life without giving her a reason. And, looking at it from her perspective, yeah, it sucked.
Cause the people she trusted the most lied to her in her face, taking advantage of her naivety. Screw adults for that.
But I had been trained to socialize with people. No one ever told me how to calm them down or comfort them. So I laid down on the improvised "bed" of the tent (a small air-inflated mattress), looking at the stars, and waited for her to finish talking. She had every single right to be mad.
"It sucks." I said, after a few seconds of silence. "Adults think they can lie to us easily because we're kids and we're supposed to be silent and well-behaved. Screw them." I think that's the first time I actually said a not-so-nice word out loud.
"They did the same to me, you know?" I sighed. "It's my first memory as a child. One of the only ones from that time. I was, like, two or three and I was at the therapist's room. Y'know, for the talking issue and all. And he told me to wait outside while he talked to my parents. And I know it's bad, but I eavesdropped, cause that's all you can do when you're bored at the waiting room and the assistant is too busy talking on her phone." I frowned.
"And I heard him telling them that I was different. That the last exam showed what they were suspecting. I was a Prodigy. 'She could be the next Einstein!' he said. I decided to sit and wait outside. They came out fifteen minutes later, mom was furious, dad was sad, and it took them three more years to take me to a normal school and tell me that 'I may struggle cause I'm special and different'. Garbage." I recalled that time when my mom and dad dropped me there. Over all, I recall their faces, almost like they were looking at me now. It was the first time I saw first-hand the look of an expectation.
"They never said it out loud. Still today, dad never said what I was. He just says I'm incredible. He never says the real word. So yeah, screw adults for lying to us. For treating us like we're stupid, we're not. We deserve the truth."
I searched the cookies with my hand and took one of them, biting it, as to seal my words.
Then I narrowed.
"Wait, Jerry? Really?" I laughed.Stamina: 6 | Evasion: 6 | Strength: 4 | Wisdom: 7 | Arc Power: 6 | Accuracy: 6

Skylar listens quietly as Mika tells her about the doctors. Her friend had mentioned it before, but Skylar could tell it was a hard topic for her. It made Skylar sick in the stomach at how adults just lie. They believe children like Skylar and Mika need to be protected, to be shielded. Yet they fail to realize that sometimes it is their lies that hurt them the most.
Skylar and Mika are two sides of the same coin, in a way. Skylar was not able to see enough, and Mika has already seen too much. How many doctor visits, how many ignorant adults, how much did her friend have to go through? Meanwhile, Skylar was hidden in her private estate, barely any friends nor contact with her extended family. Private tutors and private lessons kept in her own little bubble of magic. Ever day she would ask her parents why she could not go out, and the answer was always the same: We will bring you out later. They never did. Not in the way Skylar had wished. The little visits to muggle London were nice, but Skylar wanted to meet friends. People. Anyone outside her own family of three.
"Wait, Jerry? Really?"
Skylar snaps out of her lamenting at the laughter that bubbles out of her friend. She looks over at the Ravenclaw, a small smile tugging at her lips. Maybe... maybe this is not so bad. Complaining about her parents would not really help Skylar right now. After all, what is done is done. Skylar is not able to get back the lost years of her childhood, and Mika is not able to forget what she had experienced at the doctor's offices. Perhaps... she should just focus on the moment. The whole debacle about her maternal family can come later. Right now, she is stargazing with her best friend.
"Hey, Jerry was a really nice companion! You may want to watch the words that come out of your mouth next, Hendricks. Or else Jerry's best friend— Tom —is going to come for your knees!" Skylar states with a wily smirk. Tom would come for Mika's knees... if he had any, that is. The marble head bust does not even have a proper torso, but Mika does not have to know.
"We can lament about our parents' poor decisions later. What I want to hear is if there is anything interesting that happened recently." With a playful wiggle of her eyebrows, Skylar leans in close.
"Any crushes or people I should know about, Mika?"

Coded by Melissa BlakeI tilted my head, frowning. Actually, I had never seen Tom and Jerry, but I trusted Sky's opinion.
Still listening to her, I checked my clock again, pouting when I noticed there was still time left until the meteors rained over us. Then...
"Any crushes or people I should know about, Mika?"
I almost choked on my cookie. Almost. I had to cough a few times to catch my breath again.
"Well, that's a change of subject!" I gasped out with a frown.
"Sky, I came here to do my studies and follow my mom's legacy. I don't think I have time to worry about boys or girls in that way. Besides, if someone were to look at me that way, it would be only to ask me about you. Cause from both of us, you're the pretty one." I nodded solemnly as I grabbed another cookie, and then repeated her playful wiggle of eyebrows.
"What about you, Miss Blue? Is there someone trying to steal your oh so pure heart? Have your innocent eyes fallen into the wicked game of the twisted ones of the guys and girls? Is there any knight of shiny armor stealing your breath and your laughs?" I shoot back, dramatically, leaning closer to her with each question until we were just inches apart.
Then, my hand grabbed my chest as I bursted out laughing.
"No, but seriously, girl, spill. Give me all your details." I grinned like a madman, narrowing like I had just discovered the world's greatest treasure.Stamina: 6 | Evasion: 6 | Strength: 4 | Wisdom: 7 | Arc Power: 6 | Accuracy: 6

"... Besides, if someone were to look at me that way, it would be only to ask me about you. Cause from both of us, you're the pretty one."
Skylar immediately frowns as she prepares to protest against Mika's statement. There is no way she is going to allow her best friend to deprecate herself. But before she could voice her disapproval, Mika decided to shoot back with her own question.
"What about you, Miss Blue? Is there someone trying to steal your oh so pure heart? Have your innocent eyes fallen into the wicked game of the twisted ones of the guys and girls? Is there any knight of shiny armor stealing your breath and your laughs?"
Oops. If there was one thing about Skylar, it was how bad she is at keeping secrets. She is by all means not a nonchalant person, no matter how hard she tries. And she rarely tries. Her happy-go-lucky personality shines brightly everyday, rising as consistently as the sun does. The downside? She has an awful poker face.
As if sensing her hesitation, Mika's grin only grew as she leans in closer. "No, but seriously, girl, spill. Give me all your details."
Skylar chews the inside of her cheek as she ponders the thought. Taking a slow bite from her cookie, she deliberately stalls for time. When in reality, Skylar was internally panicking. She takes a sip from her hot chocolate and lets out a sigh.
Then promptly falls back onto her sleeping bag and turns her back to Mika. "I will tell you tomorrow if I remember, but now I am tired." Skylar lies. She is glad that she turned her back to Mika, or else her best friend would have saw the smirk she trying to hide. She is not tired at all, not in the slightest; but she would do anything just to tease her friend further.
"But if you are really dying to know... he is a second year." Skylar then proceeds to stifle her giggles and ignore Mika. Her friend will have to drag her out of the sleeping bag if she wants answers, but for now, Skylar is going to enjoy leaving Mika on a cliffhanger.x

Coded by Melissa BlakeThe way my jaw dropped. My eyes wide opened and I just stared at her back for a straight minute while I tried to process it all.
She had a crush? On a second year!? I had so many opinions, but most of all, I had lots of questions. And she really thought she was just going to lay there and leave me wondering? I checked my clock again, sitting straight now.
"Skylar Blue, you have exactly... Ten minutes to tell me who is this, when and how it all started. You're not getting rid of me so easily, and I can be very patient. Come on, spill."
I smirked, resting my chin over the palm of my hand, suddenly interested in her love life.
"Is he from here? Hogwarts? Oh, don't tell me it's one of the guys who came over for the ball, cause I swear to Saints, they're not worth it. Or I don't know, maybe we have different types, but really? But if it's from Hogwarts, who? I think I know half of the Hogwarts population and no, they're not cute either."
I pouted, doing a small review of her possible options. Not much, but oh well. We definitely had different types.Stamina: 6 | Evasion: 6 | Strength: 4 | Wisdom: 7 | Arc Power: 6 | Accuracy: 6

Skylar cannot help but let out a little giggle as Mika continues to pester her. Oh, how she loves leaving her bestie in suspense. But alas, it would be cruel to ignore the Ravenclaw any longer. Turning to face her pouting friend, Skylar has to put a hand over her mouth to stifle another laugh.
"Okay, it is not even an actual crush. It is just like... a hallway crush."
The fact they met in an actual hallway has Skylar internally cackling, but Mika does not know that yet. It is not that she is being particularly secretive or anything, but because the actual interaction she had with the second year was not really anything in the first place. She just finds him mildly attractive. And with how half the guys are here? Anyone remotely good-looking can catch Skylar's attention.
"You were right about one thing though. He is from another school and just came here for the ball. But he was such a gentleman! He bumped into me and was incredibly polite about it. He also had this funny accent. But you should see what he looked like! He was like this tall.."
Skylar continues to jabber on about her supposed "hallway" crush. But who can blame her? Every girl goes through this phase at least once. The whole fun about having a crush is the gossip sessions you can have with your friends. Perhaps Skylar does not even like the guy, but just the thought of actually having a crush is exciting enough. After all, girls will be girls.

HOLY TPOBAW REFERENCE, IN THIS TED TALK I WILL-
Coded by Melissa BlakeI had to breathe. Like, genuinely, I had to stop for a moment, close my eyes and take a deep breath.
It's not like I wasn't into guys or anything. I mean, I had seen the young Leo DiCaprio. I liked boys. But my dad would kill me if I had a crush.
Looks like the laws weren't the same at the Blues house.
A hallway crush? Yeah, not romantic. Cliché, maybe. But not my type. Anyway, if this... Boy was able to make my sister smile and sigh like an idiot, I had to support her.
By the way she was describing him... Yeah, not my type. Good thing I wasn't the one who was into him.
After a few minutes, I checked my clock again, clueless about the time we were losing and...
"Wait, no, shut up! They're coming!" I quickly covered her mouth with my hand as we both stared into the sky and...
There they were. The stars. The meteor shower.
It was prettier that I ever imagined. Prettier than the internet videos.
As they fell, I closed my eyes and prayed to the saints.
It was not how the tradition went, but I followed my own rules.
And I prayed for this moment. Cause my best friend, my sister, was next to me, talking about her crush. And tomorrow, when we grew up, this moment would only be a memory. We'd become photographs. Tales.
But not now. Cause now, in this exact same moment, with a piece of the universe falling over us, I prayed for us to be infinite.
We were infinite.Stamina: 6 | Evasion: 6 | Strength: 4 | Wisdom: 7 | Arc Power: 6 | Accuracy: 6
